Xenophobia: Nigeria to commence evacuation Wednesday-NICASA

The evacuation of Nigerians in South Africa will commence on Wednesday, it  has been learnt.

Air Peace has made an offer to airlift those who are willing to return home following the recent attacks on Nigerians and their businesses by South African.

Prince Ben Okoli, president, Nigeria Citizens Association, South Africa (NICASA) said all efforts are geared towards evacuation of those who are ready to come back home.

Though he was unable to put figure to the number of affected Nigerians, Okoli however said the figure is in hundreds as many have lost their means of livelihood and nothing to fall back to.

The association, he said is however still pushing ahead for the demand of compensation as there are sufficient available to them that the attacks were premeditated and orchestrate.

He also noted that normalcy is gradually returning, there is no longer tension, or violence against any set of people. The violence and hostility have ceased.

“So many Nigerian have been affected by this and lots have been highly distressed and nothing to fall back to. So some of them affected have decided to call it quit to go back to Nigeria.

“Presently, we are collating the data of Nigerians that are to be evacuated back to Nigeria because the first batch will be leaving sometime early next week.

“Well we have it on a good record that they will be leaving on Wednesday.”

On compensation, he said that the South African Government has remained adamant, they have not acknowledge it as xenophobia. They continue to call it criminality and we do not understand why they continue to push the narrative of criminality since it is very obvious and plain and simple for even illustrates to understand that this is purely xenophobic. So in the area of compensation, like their President had said that they are not going to give compensation but we are going to push for that because we have a good ground for compensation because these attacks against our people were uncalled for and totally unprovoked. We look at it as an attack that as something that was orchestrated, we are not actually pointing a figure at an individual or a group but of complicity. Those are the areas that our legal advisers are looking at.”

He maintained that the union was going to see the agitation for compensation  to its logical conclusion as the people have worked very hard to establish themselves and suddenly, their hard work for sixteen to eighteen years destroyed overnight and that is something that is not acceptable to us as a community.”

Xenophobia: Your statement is incorrect... South African Catholic Bishops tell SA Government

Catholic Bishops of Southern Africa have responded to the xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The Bishops told the South African government that it lied when it said the recent attacks on foreign nationals in the country was not being xenophobic, but the work of criminals.

A statement by Archbishop Buti Tlhagale (OMI) of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) Office for Migrants and Refugees reads....

“It is with dismay that we take note of the recent upsurge in violence against foreign nationals, starting two weeks ago in the Johannesburg CBD, last week in Pretoria, and this week again in the Johannesburg CBD, Malvern, Turffontein and Krugersdorp.

“Once again we receive reports of the authorities doing very little to protect the victims. We received report of police standing by idly in Pretoria while shops were looted and people attacked. Not a single arrest was made on that day.

“Once again the authorities resort to the old explanation: that this is not xenophobia, but the work of criminal elements.

“Let us be absolutely clear – this is not an attempt by concerned South Africans to rid our cities of drug dealers. And this is not the work of a few criminal elements. It is xenophobia, plain and simple. If it was about drugs, why are South African drug dealers not being targeted as well? Are we really to believe that there are none?

“And why are drug addicts who rob people in our city centres to get money to buy drugs not being targeted? If it is the work of a few criminal elements, why are South African owned businesses not being looted as well?

“The teaching of the Church is direct and uncompromising. More than 80% of South Africans claim to be Christian. What are our religious leaders teaching the multitudes that fill our Churches every Sunday? Galatians 3:28 says: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” By the same token, there is neither South African nor Nigerian nor Ethiopian. We are all one in Christ Jesus.

“God makes it absolutely clear that He has a special concern for refugees, migrants and strangers. Deuteronomy 10:18 says: “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.” He isn’t just concerned about the foreigners. He loves them.

“Jesus goes even further. Matthew 25 says: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me”.. He identifies directly with strangers. By welcoming a refugee or migrant, we are welcoming Jesus Himself.

“In his scathing attack on the inactivity of people of good will to do anything against the Nazi tyranny in Germany, Pastor Martin Niemoller said:

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

“Let us take heed of this. We are facing a rising tide of hatred and intolerance, no different to the rising tide of hatred in Nazi Germany. If we do not take urgent action to stop it, there will be nothing left.

“I appeal to all people of faith, and all people of good will, to speak out and take action. In the words of St Francis: ‘Make us channels of your peace’.

“My prayer is that God will fulfil his promise made in Ezekiel 36:26: ‘I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.’”

Men can’t take their eyes off my boobs – Whykay Yinka

Multi-talented entertainer, Ogunjimi Adeyinka aka Whykay, has shared with Inside Nollywood the pains she went through during her recent heartbreak.

Whykay, who features in Nedu Wazobia’s skits, also revealed why men can’t take their eyes off her big breast.

“We (my ex and I) were together for a year but he wasn’t ready for a relationship. He’s a young guy who was going through some challenges, so I didn’t rush it. But after a year, he remained the same. I wanted more from him. I gave him my time, care and attention, yet he wasn’t ready for a relationship. After I noticed that, I tried to draw back sub-consciously, and he complained that I didn’t care (about him). He was messing up with my head.

“But beside all these, he’s one of the best guys I’ve dated. Well, in summary, he didn’t know what he wanted. For a husband, I want a good guy that loves me, supports me and knows what he wants. I want someone that’s ready to commit his loyalty, respect, support and love to me. He needs to be taller than I am. Age doesn’t really matter but he must not be younger than me and not so old. He should be comfortable, hardworking and able to handle responsibilities.

“If a billionaire’s son comes my way, I won’t say no if he has good character and actually care about me. I also want to be a billionaire, but if one comes my way as a husband and he’s true and I like him, why not?”

WhyKay, who is a Management and Computer Studies graduate of Wisconsin International University, also lamented the embarrassment she faces over her plus sized boobs.

“In high school, one day, I was walking down the road with other students and all of a sudden a guy shouted ‘see breast’. That day, I hated my breast!

I went home and cried.  Now as a grown woman, the embarrassment has become normal. Now, it is no longer verbally, men just stare at my chest. They just can’t take their eyes off my breast. And most times, I can’t do anything,” she said.

I don't believe in seed money, Benny Himm breaks his long silence

Benny Hinn says he is done with the prosperity gospel. But longtime observers are not ready to take his word on faith.

Hinn has been a leading proponent of prosperity gospel theology since the 1980s, teaching that God rewards active faith with health and wealth. But on September 2, during his 3-hour, 50-minute weekly broadcast, Hinn said he had changed.

“I am correcting my own theology and you need to all know it,” the televangelist told his studio audience and those watching online. “The blessings of God are not for sale. And miracles are not for sale. And prosperity is not for sale.”

Hinn said he now believes such give-to-get theology is offensive to God. He specifically repudiated the practice of asking for “seed money,” where televangelists tell people that God will bless them if they give a specific dollar amount. Hinn himself has done this numerous times, promising God will give material blessings in exchange for a gift of $1,000. On Monday, he said he wouldn’t do it anymore.

“I think giving has become such a gimmick,” Hinn said. “It’s making me sick to my stomach. And I’ve been sick for a while too. I just couldn’t say it. And now the lid is off. I’ve had it. You know why? I don’t want to get to heaven and be rebuked.”

Some of the Christians who have watched him closest, however, viewed the apparent renunciation with skepticism. While they want to be open to the possibility of true repentance, and say God could have changed Hinn’s heart, they are waiting for some evidence of his transformation.

“I think time will tell whether this is a minor correction, something for publicity, or the beginning of a new trajectory towards greater maturity,” said Charles Self, a professor of church history at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS). “I’m taking a wait-and-see perspective, because we’ve been down this road before.”

Blackface finally releases his own version of African Queen... [listen]

Oh dear! Since the court hasn't been able to 'settle their rift', Blackface has decided to release his own version of African Queen. Let's refresh your memory... After Tuface released African Queen and it went viral, Blackface called him  out claiming he wrote the song and deserves a credit.

Recently he has been demanding credit for the song again, a thing Tuface has refused to do, also claiming his own rights. So truth is, we really don't know who owns the song. The singer has also dragged his former friend to court, demanding a compensation from Tuface. Long story short, Blackface has released his own version too, and indeed, we also love.

While sharing a bit of the flavour on instagram he captioned it;

''Finally my #version of #africanqueen will soon be available on all platforms worldwide...just to clear the air again ...I gave the initial singer the right to sing the song but I never got credited as a writer by the label that released it nor any acknowledgement from the singer while the song did so many numbers and won many awards since 2003/4 till date
The singer included a third verse he wrote to the music when it was produced by OJB but I took that verse out and included the third I had written to make this version of mine totally written by self ....I can't wait for you all to feel this one #produced
By @hookmrbrown for #Loudhouz #releasedates #loading #BFNfans 👌''

HONESTLY I STOOD UP TO DANCE, LETS SAY MAY BE BECAUSE THE SONG HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HIT OR MAY BE THE LYRICS. OH DEAR LOL

South Africa confirms Buhari's October visit

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to pay a state visit to South Africa in October, the South African presidency said Saturday after a spate of xenophobic violence in Johannesburg caused tensions between the countries.

South Africa’s financial capital and surrounding areas were rocked by a surge of deadly attacks against foreigners this week, many directed against Nigerian-owned businesses and properties.

The violence prompted reprisal attacks against South African firms in Nigeria and the temporary closing of South Africa’s diplomatic mission ins Lagos and Abuja.

Buhari’s visit is meant to “reinforce the strong bonds between the two countries and jointly develop responses to challenges affecting people and businesses in South Africa and Nigeria”, said South Africa’s presidency in a statement.

Tribunal dismisses APC’s petition in Oyo

The National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Oyo State, on Saturday, dismissed the petition against the victory of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Oluyemi Taiwo.

In the judgment which lasted for three and a half hours, the three-man panel of the tribunal, led by Justice Anthony Akpovi, unanimously dismissed the petition for lacking in merit.

5,000 jobs lost to Xenophobia attacks in Lagos – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday disclosed that 5,000 people lost their jobs in Lagos due to Xenophobia attack on the Ajah and Surulere Malls by hoodlums avenging the attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The Governor, who visited the attacked malls in Ajah and Surulere areas of the State assured business owners of safety and ordered security personnel to step up protection of all facilities so as to prevent them from further attacks.

He described the State as a safe haven for business and investments, noting that the recent attacks on malls in the wake of xenophobic reprisals by some hoodlums is reprehensible and condemnable.

The Governor who was at Sangotedo and Surulere Shoprite malls and stores to have a first-hand assessment on the level of destruction of the facilities described the incidents as “enormous”.

Speaking to journalists after a tour of the malls, Sanwo-Olu pointed out that it was sad that several shops and organisations belonging to Nigerians were affected in these mindless attacks.

He said: “we have seen the amount of enormous destruction in both plazas and the first thing is to condemn in strong terms, whatever could have led to this, it is an extensive destruction of people’s property.

“As a government we have come out to condemn this and to assure business community that ease of doing business is paramount to us and security of lives and property is part of the to-do list for us.

“We are charging our security operatives to stop at nothing, to ensure that they keep all of these facilities safe and secure.”

Sanwo-Olu noted that although this xenophobic act took place in South Africa, Nigerians were the ones feeling the hardship and should move to stop such occurrence, while stating that thousands of workers from these businesses had suffered losses as a result of these attacks.

“In both malls, over 5,000 people are out of jobs. These are jobs where Nigerians are the ones that have been affected. So we need to be able to take the lessons out of this, be stronger together and be able to take corrective measures to ensure that things like these should certainly not repeat itself in our community,” he said.

Nnamdi Kanu to governors: Don’t travel out if you are owing workers

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is stepping up his secessionist campaign as he warned Nigerian governors owing workers to stay at home.

He said they should not bother to leave Nigeria if they are owing workers as they would be embarrassed with picketing anywhere they go.

He spoke on Ben TV in an interview, saying his group would continue to hold Nigerian politicians accountable for the services they were elected to render by the electorate.

He said governors in Nigeria who have refused to pay their workers’ salaries, but travelling aimlessly across the world would be stopped from doing so.

“Very soon, any governor who has not paid salaries will not come abroad anymore. If you owe salaries you’re not allowed to go abroad anymore. “You bank teachers’ salaries, you bank the salaries of pensioners, you cannot come abroad anymore.

“So this is just the beginning. “We’ll not attack them. We’ll just ask them questions. It is called picketing. It’s allowed within the ambit of democratic rules. “So, if we see you, we’ll ask you what you’ve been doing with teachers’ salaries, nurses’ salaries and why you’ve not been paying people and what are you doing here? “Any governor owing workers once we catch you abroad you’ll tell us what you’ve been doing with the salaries you’re supposed to pay.

“There’s no time on this earth that any process of agitation will be palatable for everyone or easy for everyone to buy into. When Nnamdi Azikiwe was campaigning for Nigeria to be free from colonial rule, he was sent to prison.

Bianca Andreescu beats Serena Williams in US Open women's final

Teenager Bianca Andreescu stunned Serena Williams in a gripping US Open final to claim a first Grand Slam title and deny the American a 24th major.

Williams, 37, did not cope with the 19-year-old's quality in a 6-3 7-5 loss.

Canadian 15th seed Andreescu, in the main draw here for the first time, blew a double break in the second set before taking her third match point and falling to the ground in disbelief.

"This year has been a dream come true," Andreescu told the crowd.

"I am beyond grateful and truly blessed. I've worked really hard for this moment. To play on this stage against Serena - a true legend of the sport - is amazing."

To the disappointment of a stunned home crowd on a passionate Arthur Ashe Stadium, Williams has now lost four successive major finals.

"Bianca played an unbelievable match," Williams said. "I'm so proud and happy for you, it was incredible tennis out there."
