Update: 7 injured 4 trucks burnt in Ibadan NNPC fire

Atleast seven people were yesterday injured as four fuel-laden trucks were gutted by fire in the loading section of the depot of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Apata, Ibadan Oyo State.

The fire incident completely damaged the loading point of the depot with pumps and the roof affected.

According to one of the drivers of the affected tankers, “One of the tanker drivers was using the battery of another truck to start his truck. It was in the process the fire started.”

The fire, which lasted for about two hours, was, however, quenched by a combined team of the Oyo State Fire Service and men of the NNPC. No life was however lost to the incident.

Saudi prominent scholar arrested for criticising entertainment authority

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested a prominent scholar after he criticised the policies of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) as a threat to the kingdom's culture, according to a prisoners' rights group.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the Prisoners of Conscience group said Sheikh Omar al-Muqbil, a professor of Islamic law at Qassim University, was detained after a video resurfaced in which he described the GEA's actions as "erasing the original identity of society".

"This is a continuation of the arbitrary arrests that have taken place in the kingdom for the past two years, which are aimed at leading scholars, sheikhs and other free thinkers," the Prisoners of Conscience group said.

Over the past year, the GEA has hosted a number of music stars including Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Sean Paul, in an attempt to boost the image of Saudi Arabia globally.

Last year, the authority announced plans to invest $64bn in the entertainment sector during the next decade as part of a programme of social and economic reforms driven by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of the world's top oil exporter.

The reforms stem partly from an economic motive to increase domestic spending on entertainment and attract Western investment to offset the effect of a slump in the price of oil that began in 2014.

Other measures include ending decades-long bans on women driving, cinemas and mixed-gender concerts.

Jury indicts Obinwanne Okeke, to forfeit $11m, diamond ring... faces up to 30 years in prison

A federal grand jury in the United States has indicted Obinwanne Okeke for $11 million fraud.

The decision affirmed the investigation of the U.S. Department of Justice, conducted by the F.B.I, and now set the stage for commencement of criminal trial.

Besides the indictment, the jury also recommended that Mr Okeke be made to forfeit at least $11 million in cash and asset or both if convicted.

An emerald cut engagement ring found on him when he was arrested should also be forfeited, the jury ruled.

Mr Okeke, 31, was arrested on August 6 in the U.S. and slammed with two counts of computer and wire fraud. He was subsequently taken before a court and remanded in prison following preliminary hearings.

While he remained in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, a grand jury was set up to look into the allegations against him.

The jury returned on September 9 with an indictment of Mr Okeke for the $11 million fraud.

A grand jury typically consists of 23 people who may not necessarily be lawyers or have law enforcement backgrounds.

The F.B.I. had detailed the fraud in its criminal affidavit against Mr Okeke as involving a subsidiary of heavy equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar. The business email compromise (BEC) fraud was carried out in 2018, American authorities said.

The jury agreed with the F.B.I. findings that Mr Okeke, better known in Nigeria as ‘businessman’ Invictus Obi, was the individual who committed the fraud alongside others.

Mr Okeke, who faces up to 30 years if convicted, has named John Iweanoge, a Washington D.C. attorney of Nigerian origin, as his lead counsel. He would be expected to enter a plea during his September 16 appearance.

I wept as Nigerians returned to the country - Air Peace boss, Allen Onyeama

Onyeama disclosed this while addressing the media shortly after 187 Nigerians returned from South Africa over xenophobic attacks.

The airline had offered free flights to those who sought to return.

“I put together over N280 million in other to bring these people back, Air Peace decided to bring them free of charge, nobody paid us a dime, we decided to do it free of charge for our country and for our people. Kim Kardashian 'earns $2million within seconds' as new shapewear range goes on sale

Her latest business venture was mired in controversy before it had even launched, but Kim Kardashian has still managed to rake in an estimated $2million within minutes of it going on sale.

The business-savvy reality star, 38, launched her SKIMS range of shapewear on September 10 after furious claims of cultural appropriation prompted a hasty rebrand and subsequent departure from its ill-thought original name – the Kimono.

But despite the upset Kardashian’s range of undergarments reportedly sold out within moments of going on sale, and sources claim the first-day sales have exceeded those reached by other, better established brands.

It’s understood that globally recognised brand Spanx raked in $4million within its first 12-months on the market, while SKIMS Solutionwear managed an average 50% of that figure in just one day.

TMZ claim the official website crashed due to the volume of traffic clamoring to gain access before the affordable range, of which nothing is priced above $100, had even launched.

Robert Mugabe's body arrives in Zimbabwe (Photos)

The body of Zimbabwe’s former leader Robert Mugabe has arrived at the country’s main airport, but his final resting place remains a source of mystery amid a dispute between some family members and the government.

Mugabe, who ruled the southern African nation for 37 years until he was ousted by his own army in November 2017, died in a Singapore hospital five days ago.

The fight over where he will be buried is threatening to embarrass his successor as president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, and deepen divisions in the ruling Zanu-PF party.

His body arrived at Harare’s Robert Gabriel Mugabe international airport shortly after 3.30pm local time (2.30pm BST). Crowds had gathered at the airport well before the scheduled arrival time, with some people wearing T-shirts bearing Mugabe’s face and others with Mnangagwa’s image, while music blared from loudspeakers.

Mugabe’s wife, Grace, and the Zimbabwean vice-president Kembo Mohadi were among those accompanying the body on the plane, according to Leo Mugabe, a nephew and family spokesman. Mnangagwa, senior officials and other Mugabe family members were at the airport to receive the body.
