George Michael's former lover Fadi Fawaz is homeless

George Michael's former lover Fadi Fawaz is reportedly homeless after moving out of the £49-a-night budget hotel he lived in after being chucked out of the late singer's £5million house.

Unemployed Fadi checked out of the central London Travelodge on Monday and is now thought to be sleeping rough in Covent Garden.

The 46-year-old former celebrity hairdresser had checked into the hotel in Covent Garden after he allegedly 'went beserk' and smashed in the windows of his ex's exclusive Regent's Park property last month.

In a Facebook post he told friends he had become homeless, as reported by The Sun.

He said:  'George Michael the ikon (sic) 3 years later and his lawyers still not done anything to sort me out so in last few days I have been sleeping in the street in Covent Garden instead of being in my home.

'They took the key by a trick the (sic) came out with it and now 2 months later still not heard anything I was staying in hotel and 2 days a go (sic) was stopped. What a cheap ikon this George f*****g Michael is.'

KFC says healthy fast food doesn't sell and they had to quit after trying hard

KFC has repeatedly attempted to move away from fried food but abandoned the project because sales of healthier alternatives were so bad, the company has admitted.

The fast food giant spent £8million installing ovens in its outlets so it could start selling baked and grilled meals, rather than the fattier deep-fried meals for which it is famous.

But a senior executive at the company admitted it gave up after poor sales of three products - the Brazer grilled chicken sandwich launched in 2011, the Rancher sandwich in 2012 and a pulled chicken product launched in 2015.

'It didn't go brilliantly well. We tried and we failed to launch a non-fried product,' said Jenny Packwood, head of brand engagement at KFC UK and Ireland.

'We were unable to sustain sales. They were just not selling,' she told Public Health England's annual conference in Warwick.

'It's no good launching a product which looks good nutritionally but then nobody buys.

'It doesn't improve the health of the nation and in terms of sustainability it is a disaster.'

Landlord, son allegedly beat female tenant to coma over parking space

A lady, Miss Ogochukwu Igwe, has  been allegedly beaten to coma by her landlord, identified as Obidike in Umudim Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The victim, a hairdresser, was reportedly beaten up by the suspect, together with his son for asking them to stop using their vehicles to block her salon shop.

It was gathered that trouble ensued when the landlord, on arrival to his house, parked his car in front of the salon, which resulted into a brawl.

Speaking to newsmen on her hospital bed at Glory hospital and Maternity, the victim alleged that the landlord strangled her after hitting her with the drier in her salon.

She said, “I pleaded with him to shift the car from blocking my shop but instead of yielding, the landlord told me to pack out of the shop and that he would deal with me when his son returned in the evening.

“The son later arrived with his tipper, came with his father into my salon and used the drier in my salon to hit me.

“He held me by the neck and tried to strangled me and I fell down unconscious. The next place I saw myself was at Glory hospital and Maternity,  Umudim Nnewi.”

Ogochukwu said it was after she recovered that she saw a female police officer who introduced herself as Inspector Nneka, the investigating police officer (IPO), from Central Police Station, Nnewi.

“She took my statement and told me that Onyeka who beat and tried to strangled me has been arrested but that they were yet to arrest his father.

“I later learnt that he was granted bail while his father has not been arrested,” she added.

She appealed to the state commissioner of police, Mr John Abang, to come to her aid by ensuring that the suspects face the wrath of the law.

The counsel to the victim, Mr Kanayo C. Muoneke, in a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr John Abang made available to newsmen, urged the CP to intervene, adding  that the victim had almost passed away if not for divine interventiom.

“Presently, the victim can’t conviniently eat because of the injuries sustained and the suspects are celebrating the victim’s fate,” he said.

Nigeria, Iraq agree to cut oil output

The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on Saturday agreed to trim oil output by asking over-producing members Iraq and Nigeria to bring production in line with their targets.

The group is striving to prevent a glut amid soaring U.S. production and a slowing global economy.

Nigeria is to reduce supply by 57,000 barrels per day (bpd) while Iraq, OPEC’s second-largest oil producer, pledged  to reduce output by 175,000 bpd by October. Better compliance will deliver an output cut of more than 400,000 bpd, two OPEC+ sources said.

Oil prices have dropped below $60 per barrel in recent weeks from their 2019 peaks of $75 as fears of a global recession outweigh concerns about falling supply from sanctions-hit Iran and Venezuela.

88 snakes found in man’s suitcase in Vienna

An Austrian man who smuggled 88 living reptiles including 43 poisonous snakes from the Philippines was stopped by customs officers at Vienna airport, Austria’s Finance Ministry said Thursday.

When the Austrian national arrived via Doha on Sunday, the officers screened his suitcase and saw that it was full of animals.

After the man admitted that it contained poisonous snakes, the officers decided to transfer the closed luggage to Vienna’s Schoenbrunn Zoo, where experts opened it.

They found Samar cobras, Mangrove snakes and vipers, as well as dozens of monitor lizards and geckos. Many of the smaller animals were transported in nylon stockings.

The traveler said that he had planned to sell the reptiles at a fair in Germany.

He faces legal proceedings for alleged breach of Austria’s law regulation trade in protected species.

The zoo in Vienna as well as an Austrian reptile zoo agreed to take in the animals.

Knife used to stab Brazil President Bolsonaro to become museum exhibit

The knife used to stab Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro during his 2018 election campaign is to be put on display at a police museum due to its “historical value”, a court ruled.

The court in the southern state of Minas Gerais on Tuesday ordered the knife to be given to the National Police Academy museum in Brasilia, in response to a request by federal police.

“There are no doubts about the relevant historical value of the knife used in the attack against the president,” judge Bruno Savino said in his ruling.

The judgement also handed “swabs impregnated with biological samples” from both Bolsonaro and his attacker to the museum.

The same judge in June ordered Adelio Bispo de Oliveira — who stabbed the then-candidate during a campaign rally on September 6 last year — to be held indefinitely in a prison mental facility.

FG to increase VAT from 5 to 7.2 percent

The Federal Government has said that consultations will begin at all levels on the review of the Value Added Tax, (VAT) from 5 per cent to 7.2 per cent, just as it is ready to begin deductions to recover bailout funds given to states.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed, on Wednesday who spoke with State House correspondents after the maiden Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We will begin consultations and consultations will be at various levels in the country. So it includes consultations with the states, with the local governments, with the parliament as well as with the Nigerian public. For the VAT increase to take effect, there has to be an amendment to the VAT Act,” she said.

Donald Duke settles N537m debt with AMCON

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has discharged the order granted the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON to take over the Ikoyi property of former Governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke over a debt of N537.3m.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the order yesterday based on the settlement terms filed and moved by AMCON’s legal team.

Mrs Juliet Benson representing AMCON told the court that the former Governor had fulfilled the terms of the settlement of the debt and both parties have agreed.

She then urged Justice Oweibo to adopt the terms of settlement as the judgement of the court.

Counsel to Donald Duke, Edoigiawerie Uyi confirmed to the court that his client has shown good faith by promptly making a payment of over N350m in settlement of the outstanding debt, a payment which parties all agreed to.

He also urged Justice Oweibo to enter the terms of settlement as the full and final judgement of the court.

In his short ruling, the court granted the terms of the settlement and entered it as full and final judgement.

The judge also ruled that all orders in the case stand discharged.

On the 8th of August, the Court had granted an interim order to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON and United Bank for Africa to take possession of a property in the Ikoyi area said to have been mortgaged by a former governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke, over an alleged debt owed the two organizations.

PDP, Atiku should apologise to Nigerians, instead of appealing Wednesday's ruling

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has asked the PDP and its presidential candidate in the last elections to apologise to Nigerians for “willfully distracting” the Buhari Administration with an election petition.

Mr Lai Mohammed said instead of appealing the ruling of Wednesday’s Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, the opposition party should be apologizing to Nigerians for trying to distract the present government.

In a statement on Thursday, the Minister said while the PDP and its candidate reserve the right to pursue their petition to the highest level, they will be better served by dropping their toga of desperation and realizing that there is a limit to tomfoolery.

”Nigerians are tired of this orchestrated distraction, and will rather wish that the opposition, having lost at the polls and in court, will now join hands with the government to move Nigeria to the next level.

”This is more so that the judgement validating the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari was unanimous that the petition lacked merit, that the petitioners failed to prove any of the grounds upon which their case was anchored and that President Buhari is eminently qualified to contest the poll,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed said instead of casting aspersion on the judiciary with their poorly-framed reaction to the ruling of the Tribunal, the PDP and its candidate should be thanking their stars that they are not being prosecuted for coming to court with a fraudulently-obtained evidence.

”It is intriguing that a party that trumpets the rule of law at every turn will present, in open court, evidence it claimed to have obtained by hacking into a supposed INEC server. Don’t they realize this is a criminal act for which they are liable? Instead of threatening to head to the Supreme Court, driven more by ego than commonsense, they should be sorry for allowing desperation to overwhelm their sense of reasoning. Enough is enough,” he said.

The Minister commended the Tribunal for not only doing justice to the case but for explaining, in painstaking details that lasted hours, how it arrived at its judgement.

”We also thank Nigerians, who voted massively to re-elect President Buhari, for their continued support,” he said

Ekiti State Commissioner for Health confirms quack doctors perform surgeries in the state

Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, has said unqualified doctors are performing surgeries in some private hospitals in the state.

Therefore, Yaya-Kolade advised residents to desist from patronising hospitals not approved by the government.

The commissioner spoke in Ado Ekiti during an unscheduled visit of the Anti-quackery Committee to some private hospitals in the state capital on Wednesday.

She said, “We found a lady who is not a nurse injecting a patient and a quack carrying out a cesarean section on a patient suffering from appendicitis. We found a speculum and a regular knife being used for operation in a very dirty environment.”

Yaya-Kolade said she had ordered the closure of two private hospitals in the state capital for allegedly flouting the rules of medical practice in Nigeria.

According to her, arrangements are on to ensure that private hospital doctors in the state display their certificates at the entrance of their hospitals.

Saudi prominent scholar arrested for criticising entertainment authority

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested a prominent scholar after he criticised the policies of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) as a threat to the kingdom's culture, according to a prisoners' rights group.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the Prisoners of Conscience group said Sheikh Omar al-Muqbil, a professor of Islamic law at Qassim University, was detained after a video resurfaced in which he described the GEA's actions as "erasing the original identity of society".

"This is a continuation of the arbitrary arrests that have taken place in the kingdom for the past two years, which are aimed at leading scholars, sheikhs and other free thinkers," the Prisoners of Conscience group said.

Over the past year, the GEA has hosted a number of music stars including Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Sean Paul, in an attempt to boost the image of Saudi Arabia globally.

Last year, the authority announced plans to invest $64bn in the entertainment sector during the next decade as part of a programme of social and economic reforms driven by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of the world's top oil exporter.

The reforms stem partly from an economic motive to increase domestic spending on entertainment and attract Western investment to offset the effect of a slump in the price of oil that began in 2014.

Other measures include ending decades-long bans on women driving, cinemas and mixed-gender concerts.
