woman, daughter and grandso murdered in Edo

Four persons have been reportedly arrested over the murder of a woman, her daughter and her grandson.

The victims were identified as Mrs. Alice Omorogbe aged 52, Mrs. Blessing Efe, 25, and her six-month-old baby boy.

They were killed last week Thursday at their residence at Iguadolor community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

A two-year-old daughter of the late Blessing identified as Gift Efe was spared as he was seen in the apartment where the three mutilated bodies of the victims were discovered.

Among those arrested is Pa Iguma Amasowomwan, the Deputy Odionwere Assistant village head of the community.

Sources in the community said Pa Iguma was picked up by operatives of Ogida Divisional Headquarters following allegations of complicity leveled against him by the deceased’s family.

He was interrogated at the anti-cult unit of police headquarters in Benin City, the state capital.

Eldest son of Odionwere of Iguadolor Community, Mr Enaruna Omorogbe said the victims were the wife and children of his late brother.

He said the Okaighele (youth leader) of Iguadolor Community, one Perrick Egbon, recently threatened to eliminate his late brother’s wife for having the guts to report him to some elders in the community for demolishing her uncompleted building with a bulldozer.

Egbon who denied the allegations appealed to the police and relevant authorities to unravel the killers and prosecute them.

He said he travelled out of town and did not even know the victims.

“All they are saying are allegations. It is not true that I killed those people.

“The world will soon know the truth about the incident and I call on the police to investigate the matter.”

26-year old electrocuted after phone she was charging fell into the bath

An accountant was electrocuted after the mobile phone she was charging "slipped" into the bath.

Evgenia Shulyatyeva, 26, died within minutes after the device fell into the water she was in.

Her heartbroken mum Vera found her dead at her home in Kirovo-Chepetsk, west Russia.

Now the Russian Investigative Committee is investigating the death, the latest in a string of similar tragedies in the nation.

The alarming number of these cases includes the death of a 10-year-old girl who dropped her phone in the bath in August. It was also plugged into the mains.

And a poker star suffered a fatal electric shock in her bathroom in Russia back in June.

Evgenia's funeral will happen tomorrow in her remote hometown, 620 miles northeast of Moscow.

Man who laughed as he dragged shark to death behind speedboat jailed

A man who laughed and smiled as he dragged a shark to its death behind a speedboat has been sentenced to 10 days in jail.

Robert Lee Benac, now 30, was one of three men involved in a viral video that saw them ruthlessly dragging the predator in Florida, US.

The horrific footage shows the shark visibly struggling as it bashes off the water at speed.

One of the men was seen gloating on camera: "Look, it's already almost dead," as the poor animal struggled to break free from the line.

Florida Wildlife Investigators believe the shark had already been shot before being dragged.

The sentence will see Benac serve a total of three weekends in prison, as well as 11 months of probation and a $2,500 fine, US broadcaster CNN reports.

His fishing license was also revoked for three years, his attorney  Justin Brent Petredis reportedly said.

The video came to light after Miami fisherman Mark Quartiano, who goes by "Mark the Shark," was sent the footage by two Instagram users.

He said at the time he was "horrified" by the video and decided to post it in the hope those responsible would be held to account.

Benac had originally been charged with two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty before he agreed to a plea deal, meaning one charged was dropped and the other reduced to misdemeanor.

How police knew Chris Watts was the one that actually killed his wife and kids

Family killer Chris Watts did everything he could do to try to throw police off his trail but he gave himself away at every turn, a new documentary reveals.

The "psychopath", 34, strangled his pregnant wife Shanann at home and then smothered his two daughters, Bella, four, and Celeste, three, in the back of his truck and then claimed they had vanished.

In the hours and days afterwards the cold-blooded killer showed no signs of panic, lacked emotion in a TV interview where he begged for their safe return, and gave useless information and rambling statements to police.

It didn't take long for detectives to figure out that he was lying - and it was his body language and a few subtle clues that gave him away as a triple murderer.

Watts initially denied murdering his family but eventually confessed and led police to the oil site where he buried Shanann - who planned to name her unborn son Nico - in a shallow grave and stuffed his girls' bodies into tanks.

A new Reelz documentary, Capturing Chris Watts, takes viewers inside the investigation and focuses on his actions between the murders and his confession.

The programme features never-before-seen police bodycam and CCTV footage from neighbours' cameras following the August 2018 murders.

When Watts arrived home from work hours after the killings he was met by police officers, whose bodycam footage shows him running towards them with “no stress or pain or suffering” on his face, said body language expert Susan Constantine.

The dad enters his home, in the US city of Frederick, Colorado, for a minute before opening the door to police and Nickole Atkinson, the friend who reported Shanann, 34, missing.

Watts then walks away and doesn't appear to be engaged or concerned.

Ms Constantine, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Reading Body Language, said: “It means that he is separating himself from what is being spoken at that time.

"He’s wanting to deflect. So, anytime he wants to walk away, he’ll turn his back or he’ll busy himself with the cellphone.”

Watts then tells the officers his wife had been taking migraine medication.

Murder prosecutor Jarrett Ferentino tells the documentary: "These are things that he just seems to be filling the air with some biographical information, but he’s still not panicking.

"His daughters are missing and Shanann is missing and he’s just providing with some, in my opinion, useless information that goes nowhere."

During continued questioning by police, Watts appears nervous as he begins to pace back and forth, admits he was having marital problems and claims he and Shanann were going to split up.

Mr Ferentino said Watts brought suspicion onto himself by “not acting in any way consistent with that part of a concerned husband", adding: “Now you may have a motive and that changes the focus again onto Chris Watts."

When Watts killed his family he having an affair, deeply unhappy in his marriage, in serious financial difficulty and opposed to having a third child, it would later emerge.

One of the biggest tells came later when Watts and police went to neighbour Nate Trinastich's home to watch CCTV which didn't show Shanann - who was 15 months pregnant - or the children leaving the home.

Instead, it showed Watts backing his truck into his garage at 5.15am, loading items and then driving off.

As the footage is shown, Watts turns away, begins moving back and forth and holds his hands on top of his head.

He looks nothing like a concerned husband and father.

Ms Constantine said: “He’s afraid to look at it because of what it might reveal, so part of it is that deflection, right? So, 'What I don’t know, maybe I don’t need to know'."

The next day, Watts gave a bizarre interview to a local TV station in which he pleaded for their safe return but showed no emotion at all.

Ms Constantine said: “He doesn’t do that because he’s not feeling anything.

"You have to understand that he is a sociopath, psychopath, narcissistic personality, so he doesn’t feel emotion like other people, so he can’t even fake it.

"It’s so far from his own DNA, he can’t even force it to happen.”

By then Watts was already the prime suspect and he would be brought in for a lie detector test, which he would fail.

After the test, Watts told his dad, Ronnie Watts, in an interview room that he killed Shanann, but claimed he caught her smothering the children.

That lie unravelled and Watts later admitted to killing his family so he could avoid a possible death sentence.

Nigerian migrant shot in Libya over piece of bread

One of the stories told was that of a Nigerian migrant, who was shot in the leg by his jailer because he attempted to take a piece of bread.

Three persons accused of their torture and kidnap have been arrested by Italian police. Surprisingly they were not Libyans.

A 27-year old man from Guinea and two Egyptians, aged 24 and 26, were responsible. They were taken into custody in a detention centre in Messina, Sicily, after police gathered testimony against them from other migrants.

The arrested men had crossed the Mediterranean themselves, landing in Lampedusa before being transferred to Sicily.

Witnesses said the three ran a prisoners’ camp in a former military base in Zawyia in Libya, where those ready to attempt the perilous sea crossing were forcibly held until they could pay a ransom.

Those interviewed said they had been “beaten with sticks, rifle butts, rubber pipes, whipped or given electric shocks”, and had seen other prisoners die, police said.

They had also been refused water or medical attention for their wounds or for diseases contracted in the camp, they said.

Anyone unable to pay up was passed on to other traffickers “for sexual and/or work exploitation”, or was killed.

The testimonies were gathered from migrants spread in reception centres across Sicily and on the island of Lampedusa.

Saudi Arabia has already executed 134 people this year... with three children on waiting list

Barbaric crucifixions are on the rise in Saudi Arabia with 134 people executed already this year.

A death penalty watchdog has revealed 'alarming' rise in state executions in the country - including crucifixions.

A report claims more than 130 people have been executed this year already - with at least 24 more at "imminent" risk of execution, including three children.

The skyrocketing number reportedly included at least six teens executed this year for "crimes" they were accused of carrying out as children.

And the surge has come despite a pledge from Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince to reduce the use of the death penalty amid international disgust.

The Death Penalty Project (DPP) watchdog's report on the executions says political figures, clerics and human rights defenders have been targeted, with individuals facing death for 'crimes' from expressing anti-government views on Facebook to bringing water to protesters.

The report, presented to the 42nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council over the weekend, urged world leaders to boycott Saudi Arabia's turn to host the G20 Summit next year.

The DDP says global pressure must be applied to convince Saudi Arabia to uphold international human rights standards, and place a moratorium on any further death sentences and executions.

The DPP's report highlighted that detainees are being tortured and face "grossly unfair" trials culminating in death sentences.

Among the executions carried by the brutal regime highlighted in the report was a mass execution of 37 men on April 23.

Most were members of Saudi Arabia's Shia minority, arrested over their participation in protests during the Arab Spring period, and tortured and convicted in sham mass trials.

The savage methods of the regime's growing number of executions were labelled "shocking" by the report, with witnesses reporting public beheadings, often taking place en masse.

Mutilated bodies were often left on display for long periods, the report continued.

The victims' grieving families say bodies were not returned to them and in some cases they were never told where their loved one was buried.

Individuals killed included television presenters and writers, progressive clerics, and children swept up in the uprising protests of 2011-12.

The report gleaned details of cases concerning teens on death row from interviews with family members of recent and threatened executions, and from lawyers and NGOs working on the cases.

Victims included a teen who was 16 when he was arrested in 2014, who was tortured with methods including electric shocks, suspension and being deprived of using the toilet.

He was held without charge for two years, and his false confession was the only evidence relied upon against him at trial before his execition.

Mujtaba al-Sweikat, was 17 when he was alleged to have taken part in protest-related offences.

He was arrested as he boarded a plane to commence his studies in America in 2012, and was held without charge for three years and tortured before his execution.

The report also named three teens currently at imminent risk of execution, all subject of urgent appeals by human rights defenders.

Among them is Abdullah al-Zaher, who is accused of taking part in protests at age 15. The report said he has been beaten with iron rods, and is due to be executed by 'crucifixion' - meaning his mutilated body will be publicly displayed for a prolonged period.

Again, FG, labour disagree over minimum wage

The new N30,000 National Minimum Wage has suffered another setback following minor changes at the end of the committee meeting held in Abuja, on Monday.

At the end of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) meeting which was chaired by the Head of service of the federation, Winifred Oyo-ita, both the federal government and the labour teams of the joint public service negotiating council only made minor adjustment to their earlier positions.

Both the government and the labour team have failed to reach an agreement over the relativity/consequential for the implementation of the new minimum wage.

In April, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the N30,000 national minimum wage, just as its implementation is yet to be effected five months after presidential assent.

It was gathered that the federal government decided to step up from 9.5 percent to 11 percent for grade levels 7 to 14 and 6.5 percent from 5.5 percent for levels 15 to 17.

Speaking on the changes, Simon Anchaver, the chairman of the organised Labour, said, “workers stepped down to 29 from 30 percent for grade levels 7 to 14 and 24 from 25 percent for levels 15 to 17.”

He added that the labour negotiating team has also resolved to write to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on their advice to consider an industrial action.

According to him, government’s delay is an invitation for industrial action noting that workers are already engulfed in fear and agitations whether their accumulated arrears will be paid when talks are finally concluded. He said just like the last inconclusive meeting, the two positions at the end of yesterday’s talks are expected to be presented to Mr President for further actions.

3 months after losing his wife, Duane Chapman is rushed to the hospital

Duane 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Chapman has been rushed to the hospital.

Chapman, 66, was taken to a hospital in Colorado on Saturday after feeling a pain in his chest, according to TMZ.

Doctors are still trying to determine what exactly happened to the reality star and if he will need to undergo corrective surgery.

Chapman’s wife Beth died of complications from throat cancer on June 26. She was 51.

Last week, during an episode of Dax Shepard‘s podcast Armchair Expert, Chapman revealed how he’s been coping since Beth’s death.

“And you’ve got to imagine what your identity is now without half of you,” Shepard said. “That’s got to be terribly frightening.”

“I googled it,” Chapman responded. “It says you adapt, you get smarter. She used to tease me, ‘You stole me from the cradle at 18 years old.’ I had her until she was 51, and I’d say one word and she knew what it meant. She’d be like, ‘Let me do it, Big Daddy, you’re too aggressive.’ And then she became more aggressive than me. And now all the sudden she’s not there. Google says you get smarter when you’re forced to deal with it. Because I still go, ‘What time do you have to be up in the morning, honey?’ I’m setting the alarms. …I’m getting better. I depended on her for so much.”

His rep has however confirmed the news in a statement saying; “I can confirm Dog is under doctor’s care and is resting comfortably. Thank you for all of your well wishes — keep ’em coming.”

Buhari’s media aide, Adesina, allegedly threatens Punch State House reporter

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Monday, unleashed a torrent of abuse and threats on Punch's State House Correspondent, Mr John Ameh, it has been claimed.

Ameh and other journalists were at the Press Gallery of the Presidential Villa, Abuja when Adesina, a former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, walked in and, without exchanging courtesies, began to scream and gesticulate aggressively at our correspondent in the full glare of his colleagues.

“What was that rubbish you people wrote on Saturday? Adesina asked, referencing a story published by one of their newspapers, Saturday Punch, on Saturday.

“Did you say that Mr President did not approve the statement? Let me tell you, if you want to last here, you had better be careful!”

The presidential aide then walked away before Mr Ameh could utter a word in response.

Punch gathered that Adesina had also threatened to bar members of the State House Press Corps from ‘open coverage’ of the President’s events.

The Saturday Punch story, “Tribunal: Buhari retracts, confesses he was under pressure” had quoted Buhari as telling some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress who visited him on Friday that he was under tension while the tribunal delivered its judgment on Wednesday.

Seyi Makinde floors Adelabu at Oyo Tribunal

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan on Monday, upheld the victory of Gov. Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Muhammed Sirajo, who chaired the three-man tribunal said Adebayo Adelabu and the All Progressives Congress failed to prove that Makinde was not validly elected by majority of lawful votes.

“The petitioner failed to prove the allegation of non-compliance, non-accreditation, over voting and corrupt practices that would warrant the tribunal to nullified the election,“ he said.

He dismissed the petition for lacking merit and awarded N200, 000 cost against the petitioners..

Adelabu had filed a petition against Makinde, disputing the verdict of the March 9 Governorship election in the state.
