Man r.a.p.e.s colleague to death, keeps corpse for three days in Ogun

A 27-year-old man, Adenuga Eniola has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping a co-worker, identified as Faith Jude to death at Lafenwa, in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama paraded the suspect alongside other 18 suspects for various crimes such as rape, robbery and cultism, among others at the Police State headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta .

Makama was represented by  Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Edward Ajogun, said the suspect, a mobile money agent, was arrested for his involvement in the murder after he went to report the incident at Lafenwa  Police Station.

He said the suspect reportedly committed the crime on September 16 and reported last Thursday at
the Police Station.

The Commissioner of Police said the suspect told his men at the station that he discovered the lifeless body of his co-worker, covered with canopy at the front of their shop.

According to Makama, the suspect took advantage of the downpour on a fateful day to perpetuate his heinous act by allegedly gagging the mouth of the deceased with a piece of cloth to stop her from screaming while he was raping her.

The Police boss further explained that Eniola kept the body of the deceased in his shop for three days after the incident but was forced to report following the odour oozing from the place he kept the body.

He added that the suspect however reportedly confessed to the crime after he was grilled over the death of his colleague.

He said, “On close examination, it was discovered that there were marks of violence on the body of the deceased which raised the suspicion that she was murdered.

“Based on the discovery, the complainant, Adenuga Eniola was professionally interrogated and it was discovered that he was the person that actually killed the victim.

“He confessed to the crime and stated that the deceased, a co-worker came to the shop to collect money for their boss.

“He took advantage of the downpour then and grabbed the deceased, gagged her mouth with a piece of cloth while he raped her.

“Having had his way with the girl, he discovered that she had given up the ghost due to suffocation. He is under arrest with the incident, while the case is undergoing investigation at the Homicide Section of the command’s Criminal Investigation Department.”

However, the suspect who claimed to have regretted his action begged the government to tamper justice with mercy.

He said, “I regret my action because I did not know what came over me. I am not a womaniser, I don’t know why I involved myself in this.”

Osinbajo waives immunity to clear name

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has declared his readiness to waive his constitutional immunity to “enable the most robust adjudication” of several baseless allegations, insinuation and falsehoods against his person and office.

Prof. Osinbajo made this declaration in a tweet he personally authored this afternoon.

Below is the full text of his tweet:

“In the past few days, a spate of reckless and malicious falsehoods have been peddled in the media against me by a group of malicious individuals.

“The defamatory and misleading assertions invented by this clique had mostly been making the social media rounds anonymously.

“I have today instructed the commencement of legal action against two individuals, one Timi Frank and another Katch Ononuju, who have put their names to these odious falsehoods.
“I will waive my constitutional immunity to enable the most robust adjudication of these claims of libel and malicious falsehood.”

Timi Frank, an ally of Atiku Abubakar peddled the first set of allegations, alleging that Osinbajo received N90billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the 2019 election and that Osinbajo’s “ ongoing travails” was because Osinbajo could not account for the money.

Terrence Howard receives Walk of Fame Star

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled Tuesday honoring Oscar-nominated actor Terrence Howard, coinciding with the season premiere of his Fox hip-hop drama "Empire."

Former Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden was among those Howard thanked in his nearly three-minute acceptance speech.

"A few years ago I was taken down by Hollywood and was told I would never work again," Howard said. "But then, a young woman named Dana Walden had faith in me and allowed me to head her show."

Directors Malcolm D. Lee and Dito Montiel preceded Howard in speaking at the 11:30 a.m. ceremony in front of the El Centro Complex on Hollywood Boulevard, near the corner of Hollywood and Vine.
Lee directed Howard in the 1999 romantic comedy-drama "The Best Man" and its 2013 sequel, "The Best Man Holiday." Montiel directed Howard in the 2009 sports action drama "Fighting."

The star is next to the star of his "Empire" co-star Taraji P. Henson. It is the 2,674th since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961 with the first 1,558 stars.

"Because my name is written in stone in Hollywood, as long as there's a Hollywood Boulevard, Terrence Howard will still stand," he said.

Algeria 'sentences ex-president's brother to 15 years'

A military court in Algeria has jailed Said Bouteflika, the brother of the deposed former president following a two-day trial, a private TV channel reports

According to Ennahar TV , he was given a 15- year sentence, along with two former intelligence chiefs and the leader of the Workers' Party.

The four defendants were arrested in May, shortly after weeks of pro-democracy protests forced long-time leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika to resign as president.

They were accused of conspiring against the state and undermining the military.

Khaled Nizar, a former defence minister, is reported to have been given a 20-year sentence in his absence by the court in Blida, a city south of the capital Algiers.

Said Bouteflika was widely seen as the real power behind the presidency after his brother suffered a stroke in 2013.

Obasanjo behind my impeachment over his third term, Ladoja reveals

A former governor of Oyo State, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, on Tuesday said his opposition to the third term bid of  ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo led to his impeachment in 2006.

Ladoja, in an interview with journalists in Ibadan, said Obasanjo rejected appeals by prominent Nigerians, including a late Yoruba leader, Pa Emmanuel Alayande, and a former Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Bola Ajibola,  not to remove him.

According to the former governor, Obasanjo threatened to reduce him to “nobody” for daring to oppose his third term bid.

The Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, who will be 75 years old on Wednesday (today), recalled events that shaped his life and said, “There are successes and failures.

There are triumphs and disappointments. And in the long run, I will say that I’m grateful to God that I can claim more triumphs than disappointments.”

Ladoja said he was lured into politics after he bankrolled the election of  the late Chief Kolapo Ishola as the governor of the state in the Third Republic.

Ladoja said Obasanjo and not the late Lamidi Adedibu made the impeachment possible.
He said he was able to manage Adedibu until the third term issue cropped up, adding that the Ibadan late politician and him had a good rapport.

The former governor said the impeachment plot paved the way for selfish people.  He stated, “There was one that actually made the impeachment possible.  It was Obasanjo’s third term.”

He said, “I also made a mistake. When I heard about the third term, I asked Baba (Obasanjo) if it was true.  He said it was not true and I said thank God.

“I said,  ‘Baba, if not I would have said maybe you don’t know God. I said God made it possible for you to be President for eight years and I said this was a presidency you were not qualified for.’”

Ladoja said when Obasanjo insisted that he was qualified and he told him,  “In a civilian government, the Presidency is meant for politicians and you are not a politician. They came to call you.”

The former governor said that he was satisfied that he told Obasanjo the truth, despite the fact that he did not like it.

Samson Siasia pleads for help over kidnapped mum 10 weeks on

Former Nigeria coach and player Samson Siasia says he is still in the dark as to the whereabouts of his abducted mother. Mrs Ogere Siasia, 76, and two others have been held captive since they were seized in Bayelsa, southern Nigeria ten weeks ago.

But Siasia says the police are no closer to finding her. "The police said it's been difficult to track these kidnappers, but my great concern is that my mother is very sick," Siasia told BBC Sport.

"For someone who is unwell to be held against her will is not only callous, but heartbreaking and sad.

"So I can only keep appealing to these guys to please let my mother go. I would like for the government or whoever is capable to help me bring my mother back."

Mum shares heartbreaking photos of stillborn baby in stark warning about diabetes

A woman has shared pictures of her stillborn son after she lost the baby due to a diabetes complication.

Cheyenne Greenwald, 20, hopes her story will help prevent other expectant mothers with diabetes from suffering the same fate as her.

Mrs Greenwald, from Utah, US, told Mirror Online that her husband, Caden, had to make the impossible decision for her to give birth naturally to their stillborn son.

Her 21-year-old partner was worried she could die if she had a c-section.

Mrs Greenwald told Mirror Online: "Caden had to choose if I had a c-section or deliver naturally.

"Because of the emotional pain I was already going to be going through he didn’t want me to go through the physical pain of a natural birth.

"But I had less chance of surviving a c-section than I did a natural birth. He told me once I was more aware of what was happening."

Mrs Greenwald, who suffers from type 1 diabetes, first realised she was pregnant when she missed her period and a friend joked she could be pregnant.

A pregnancy test confirmed that she was carrying a child, prompting the couple to prepare for the tot's arrival.

However, in the seventh month of her pregnancy she started to feel unwell.

She told Mirror Online she had low insulin levels as the pump providing her with the critical hormone had been set up incorrectly.

The mum-to-be started vomiting and drifting in and out of consciousness as a result of diabetic ketoacidosis.

She was rushed to an intensive care unit and although she recovered after five hours her baby Dean lost his life.

Mrs Greenwald is now urging other diabetic women to be fastidious about their medical equipment while pregnant.

She said: "My pump was set up wrong because no one told me a doctor had to set it up.

"My point is, when a diabetic women is pregnant it’s okay to be scared but just be more on top of it and make sure your pump or ratios are set up properly."

Woman flees as sexagenarian lover dies during s.e.x

A yet-to-be identified woman is on the run after her sexagenarian lover, Raji Adio, died while they were allegedly making love in a room at the River Bank Hotel in the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that the 60-year-old Adio, visited the hotel, located at No. 89 Gasikiya College Road, Ijora-Badia, in company with the fleeing woman and requested a room for a short-time rest.

After paying, the manager of the hotel, Williams Ekezie, released the key to one of the rooms, and when Adio and the woman had settled down, the manager left the premises to attend a morning devotion at the Revelation Church opposite the hotel.

It was learnt that a cleaner at the hotel, John Chuks, saw the woman running out of the room, but before he could alert his co-workers, she had disappeared.

When Punch correspondent visited the hotel, Williams said the woman escaped because Chuks, rushed to the church to inform him of what he saw instead of chasing after her.

The manager stated, “Both Adio and the woman were regular customers, so on the day of the incident, they both came around 8am to book a room for short-time rest. Immediately payment was made, I issued a receipt to Adio and gave him the key to one of the rooms. Afterwards, I left the reception to attend a morning devotion at a church opposite the hotel. Almost all members of staff of the hotel attend the devotion before business will commence for the day.

“As the devotion was going on, Chuks suddenly rushed to inform us that he suspected that something strange had happened because of the way a woman rushed out from one of the rooms and ran out of the hotel. We quickly chased after her, but it was too late.
After efforts to ascertain the woman’s whereabouts proved abortive, Chuks said the matter was reported at the Ijora-Badia Police Division and detectives were sent to investigate the matter.

Parents dump sons, 2 and 3, in homeless camp so they could get some rest

Two little boys have been rescued from a homeless camp after being dumped there by their parents.

Three-year-old Andrey and his younger brother Maksim, 2, spent a week living with vagrants and drunkards in Zaporizhia, southern Ukraine.

Reports say the children were brought to the camp and left there by their parents 'who wanted to get rid of them and get some rest'.

Homeless Sergey, 42, who ended up 'babysitting' the tots, said to local media: ''A young couple came and asked to look after their children.

"The boys were completely naked and barefooted.

"The parents said they would go to a shop to buy some food and be back in 20 minutes.

"Then they went away and never came back."

During the next week the rough sleepers shared their small amounts of food with the dumped boys and kept an eye on them to prevent them from hurting themselves, according to local media.
On August 26 a female passerby, Olena Tashevska, accidentally spotted the toddlers among the tramps and alerted the police.

She said: "I had leisure time and went to the Dnipro river. I was looking for a place to sunbathe when I stumbled on the hobos' camp.

"I was terrified to see two little boys lying there on filthy blankets. They were naked and extremely dirty.

"I immediately called the police."

Officers arrived on the scene accompanied by an ambulance. While law enforcement interviewed the rough sleepers, paramedics examined and dressed the brothers.

Police spokeswoman Dina Kurnikova said: "The children lived like 'Mowgli' boys.

Nancy Pelosi announces formal impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday that the House would initiate a formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump, charging him with betraying his oath of office and the nation’s security by seeking to enlist a foreign power to tarnish a rival for his own political gain.

Ms. Pelosi’s declaration, after months of reticence by Democrats who had feared the political consequences of impeaching a president many of them long ago concluded was unfit for office, was a stunning turn that set the stage for a history-making and exceedingly bitter confrontation between the Democrat-led House and a defiant president who has thumbed his nose at institutional norms.

“The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the Constitution,” Ms. Pelosi said in a brief speech invoking the nation’s founding principles. Mr. Trump, she added, “must be held accountable — no one is above the law.”

She said the president’s conduct revealed his “betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections.”

Ms. Pelosi’s decision to push forward with the most severe action that Congress can take against a sitting president could usher in a remarkable new chapter in American life, touching off a constitutional and political showdown with the potential to cleave an already divided nation, reshape Mr. Trump’s presidency and the country’s politics, and carry heavy risks both for him and for the Democrats who have decided to weigh his removal.

Couple arrested for stealing N38 million health insurance remittances (photo)

The Lagos Police have arrested a couple for allegedly stealing N38 million at a health insurance company.

Funmilayo Oyelaja, 38, and Tunde Ogunseye, 42, fled to Ghana after the crime, but were arrested after Mr Ogunseye returned home for the burial of his mother.

The police paraded the couple in Lagos on Monday. Although not legally married, they have been partners since 2015.

Ms Oyelaja, who is the prime suspect, worked with Clearline Health Insurance Limited where she allegedly siphoned money meant for health insurance.

Mrs Oyelaja said she worked in the company’s account department for 10 years and stole “only N38 million”, contrary to the N60 million the company alleged.

She claimed that the company diverted the money that was meant to return to NHIS, to an account where the company fixed it, and her superiors were aware of the illegality.

She gave the names of the superiors as Kolawole Samuel and Patricia Ogundeinde.

Tunde Ogunseye, the partner who was arrested by the police, said he did not know much about the crime, only that they travelled to Ghana together.

He claimed she has been his girlfriend since 2015 and they already had their visas before they received a strange call advising them to leave Nigeria.

The couple travelled to Ghana in 2017. Mr Ogunseye said he lost his mother and had to come to Nigeria for the funeral arrangement and that was how he was arrested.

“I lost my mum last week and I was at the burial where they came to arrest me,” he said.

Ms Oyelaja, however, said she came on her own to make confessions, seeing that her partner had been arrested.

Ijeoma Anyiam, a representative of Clearline Health Insurance Limited who was present when the suspects were paraded, gave the company’s side of the story.

Mrs Anyiam is the company secretary and general manager in charge of administration.

Foreign criminal gang out to dupe Nigeria of $billions, Buhari tells World Leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in New York alerted World Leaders on attempts by international criminal groups to cheat Nigeria of billions.

The president raised the alarm while presenting the country’s National Statement as the fifth speaker on the first day of the General Debate during the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA74).

According to him, the present Nigerian government is facing the challenges of corruption head-on.

He said: “We are giving notice to international criminal groups by the vigorous prosecution of the P&ID scam attempting to cheat Nigeria of billions of dollars.”

While holding social media outlets responsible for fuelling major crimes such as mass killings, Buhari called on major tech companies to be alive to their responsibilities.

He also declared that, “no threat is more potent than poverty and exclusion,” noting that, “they are the foul source from which common criminality, insurgency, cross-border crimes, human trafficking and its terrible consequences draw their inspiration.”

The Nigerian leader described poverty “as one of the greatest challenges facing our world.”

Buhari noted that, “its eradication is an indispensable requirement for achieving sustainable development,” while highlighting his administration’s efforts to overcome the challenge.

N400m fraud case: Court must invite Jonathan to give Evidence –Olisa Metuh

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday insisted that the Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice O.E. Abang should invite former President Goodluck Jonathan to give evidence in his ongoing trial.

Metuh is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC alongside his company, Destra Investment on seven-count charges, bordering on money laundering to the tune of N400 million, which he allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, in 2014 under Sambo Dasuki as national security adviser without justification.

Metuh while on cross-examination today, said “The payment of N400 million was made by the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

This is because I made a presentation and he informed that he will make funds available for the prosecution of that national assignment and he even called me to tell me that the N400 million has been paid. I do not expect the President to be an agent of any individual or organ of his office, but I do know that he has a lot of aides that handle matters relating to different aspects.”

Metuh reminded the court that he applied for Jonathan to be subpoenaed to give evidence concerning his claim that he was authorized by the ex-president but that the court ignored him, restating that the court should subpoenaed Jonathan to come and give evidence in the matter.

He revealed during cross-examination, that Mike Ozekhome, the then lawyer to Jonathan told him that he needed to pay about N1.2 billion for Jonathan’s transportation and to guarantee his security, before he could come to the court.

“I am just hearing for the first time that the former president denied knowing me and had no business with me. I am not in a position to confirm or deny about the opposition of his excellency to be a witness; I can only confirm that he insisted that I should pay N1.2 billion,” Metuh said.

At this juncture the prosecution tendered the certified copies of the motion document filed by Ozekhome and tendered the motion filed on October 27, 2017 by him on behalf of the former President Jonathan, seeking to set aside the subpoena as well as the affidavit in support of the said motion and written address.

The prosecution also tendered a counter-affidavit of the senior counsel, made on October 30, 2017 but filed on the November 1, 2017.

Justice Abang adjourned the matter to Thursday, September, 26, 2019 for conclusion of arguments and admissibility of documents and for continuation of trial. It will also on the new adjournment date, consider the need to further adjourn the matter to September, 30, October 2,3, and 4, 2019, for continuation of trial.
