Husband allegedly sets wife ablaze in Ondo

A man identified as Ojo Daniyan has been arrested by the men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly committing arson and murder.

Daniyan allegedly set his wife, Dorcas, ablaze at Irese Road, Akure, Ondo State, last Saturday, September 14, 2019 at about 11pm while she was asleep.

It was gathered that before the incident happened, the victim and her husband had had a disagreement over the proceeds of a land she had sold.

This raised suspicion that the husband carried out the dastardly act.


A source said a few hours before the incident, Daniyan brought home a keg of petrol; and that, some hours later, a fire started while he was in the room with the deceased.

“When the fire started, it was one of the neighbours that perceived the smoke coming out from the room.

“We rescued the woman and rushed her to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo , where she died,” the source said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, who spoke with our Correspondent on Friday, said the suspect was in Police custody and that the Command had commenced investigation into the matter.

Joseph stated, “We have arrested the husband of the deceased, he is undergoing interrogation; but he is still denying his involvement in the crime, but circumstantial evidence is showing that he knows one or two things about the incident.

“We have commenced investigation into the incident.”

This revelation comes after her back and forth with her former best friend, Mzbel and Maame Ngege who both called her ugly and likened her to a pig, claiming they had a striking resemblance.

Afia noted that although she is ugly, she has a commercial farm which generates a lot of income for her. Afia also claimed to generate several million on a daily basis from her various businesses.

Four RRS officers arrested for extorting N5,000 from woman (photo)

Four police officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have been arrested for allegedly extorting N5,000 from a woman in Ajah area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The information leading to their arrest was given by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba.

The information on their arrest was captured on the RRS twitter handle.

The RRS said the officials had been arrested and detained, saying that they would be transferred to the headquarters on Monday for trial.

Meghan told her son: 'Say hello! Hello, hi,' before realising Archie was drooling, to which she exclaimed: 'Oh, Bubba!', People reports. 

In America, Bubba is usually used as a term of endearment derived from 'brother', mainly given to boys. In Australia and New Zealand it's commonly used as a noun to refer affectionately to a baby.

UK court orders stay of execution of $9.6bn award to P&ID

The United Kingdom Commercial and Arbitration Court on Thursday ordered a stay of execution of the $9.6 billion damages awarded against Nigeria by Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) pending the determination of an appeal by the Federal Government.

The court asked the government to make a security payment of $200 million to the court, while also granting Nigeria’s leave to file an appeal against the award.

The company had secured the damages against Nigeria following a failed Gas Supply Project Agreement (GSPA) contract between it and the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.


Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who spoke from London said: “Stay of execution granted subject to payment of $200m security payment to court pending the determination of the appeal the leave for which has been granted by the commercial court.

“Application for leave to appeal against the award and enforcement of the award is granted.”

Malami; the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, had last Saturday led a delegation to the United Kingdom for the epic legal battle with P&ID.

Mugabe to be buried in his Zvimba home village

Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe will be buried at his rural home in Zvimba this weekend during a private ceremony, the government said Thursday.

According to a statement issued by Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the family of Mugabe expressed its desire to proceed with his burial in Zvimba, Mashonaland West Province, which is also Mugabe’s rural home.

“In line with government policy to respect the wishes of families of deceased heroes, government is cooperating with the Mugabe family in their new position,” the statement said.

It also said the government will render all the necessary support to give the late former president a fitting burial as led by the family.


A police and military motorcade accompanying a funeral hearse believed to be carrying Mugabe’s body passed along Harare Drive in northwest Harare Thursday evening.

It is understood Mugabe had expressed his wish to be buried at his home village.

Pictured! EFCC arrests fake JUMIA agent in Benin

A 23-year-old fake JUMIA agent in Benin City, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC after duping a customer of one million naira.

The suspect, Edoboryi Osaruese Leerees, was arrested following a petition by a lady who claimed to have paid him over One million naira for the supply of goods which she and her friends ordered from his page online, but never got the items.

The commission also said the suspect has made useful statement and would be changed to court soon.

According to a statement released by the Head of Media and Publicity of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, “Leerees sent the lady a message on WhatsApp and told her he was an agent of JUMIA and pleaded with her to help him market his products which were on sales at 40% discount.”


“When the lady saw how attractive the prices were, she and her two friends credited the suspect’s accounts with the sum of One Million Naira ( N1,000,000) and waited for the delivery of their goods. However, days elapsed and the goods were not forthcoming. She then went to JUMIA office to make an enquiry and discovered that Leerees was not an agent. She petitioned the EFCC after he refused to refund her money.”

“Leerees modules operandi was to use his social media platforms as an agent of JUMIA to advertise goods which are purportedly on promo at cheaper prices. This makes unsuspecting customers to send money into his account for goods which he never delivered.”

The statement further revealed that Leerees is an internet fraud suspect who has defrauded several people, including foreign nationals using the names, Vin Diesel and Mark Sinclair, an American.

3-year-old rescued from suspected kidnapper in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a three-year-old girl, Nimotallah Sulaimon, from a 39-year-old female suspected kidnapper.

The suspect was paraded on Thursday in Ibadan at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

The police also arrested five suspected kidnappers who allegedly abducted the 17-year-old son of a herdsman, Shakiru Weti.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Shina Olukolu, said that the female kidnapper allegedly abducted the child in Olorunsogo area of Ibadan.


“She was intercepted and when interrogated, she informed the police that she was in the area to beg for alms when she sighted the girl who was later identified as Nimotallah Sulaimon unattended to and strolling away.

“She thereafter took her to the Muslim area of Ibadan where she resides.
“Sequel to this, her neighbours at the sight of Oluwatoyin with the girl, challenged her and inquired how she came about the child.

“She told lies that the girl belongs to her senior brother and his wife who had a conflict earlier that day and that was the reason she brought the girl to her house at Muslim Area of Ibadan.

“The community members, who did not believe her story, reported the incident to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ogbere, and after preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the child was abducted,” he said.

Umahi was elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Umahi also warned that any of his appointees who insulted any governor or downplays their achievements would have his or her appointment terminated.

Umahi said this in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on New Media, Mr. Francis Nwaze, and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.

The governor’s aide quoted his principal as saying that anybody who wished to “throw unnecessary stone against any of the above mentioned leaders should be ready to leave the administration.
