Abductions becoming normal in Nigeria - Dino Melaye

The Senate on Wednesday urged security agencies in the country to secure lives and property of commuters plying the Abuja-Lokoja and other roads across the country.

The resolution of Senate followed a motion of urgent public importance brought by Senator Dino Melaye (PDP Kogi) on the repeated killings and kidnapping of commuters on the road.

Melaye, who brought the motion under Order 42 and 52 of the senate rule, said that eight people were kidnapped on September 11, while eleven persons were kidnapped on September 18.

He said that another 18 people were kidnapped on September 24, while eight people, including a senior police officer, were killed.

He said that no proper security had been made to protect commuters, adding that it was part of the responsibility of the senate to protect Nigerians.

He said it was time for the senate to enforce citizen diplomacy, noting that the primary function of government is to ensure the protection of lives and property of its citizens.

He decried that kidnapping and killings of Nigerians along Abuja-Lokoja road and other roads across the country were becoming a normal activity for the kidnappers.

He said that the Senate and the federal government must do something extraordinary to curb the menace of kidnapping on the roads.

U.I links Wednesday night fire incident to power surge

The management of the University of Ibadan has linked Wednesday night fire incident at the Faculty of Education of the campus to a power surge.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. during torrential rainfall.

They said the power surge was further triggered by a cooking gas in the common room.

Equipment for social interaction and networking by teaching and non-teaching staff members were completely razed in the resulting fire outbreak.

The varsity’s Director of Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo while responding to enquiries by The Punch in a telephone conversation said,

“Yes, I can confirm to you that there was a fire incident last night. However, contrary to the insinuations that the whole faculty was engulfed in fire, it is not true as the incident only affected the common room of the faculty.

“The affected room was completely razed as we couldn’t lay hands on anything after the incident.

“We thank God that no life was lost.”

Boris Johnson's 'mistress' pictured 'licking salt off woman's breast' at party (photos)

Fresh photos have emerged of Boris Johnson’s alleged mistress Jennifer Arcuri partying before she met the future Prime Minister.

At a party in Trondheim, Norway, Ms Arcuri is shown knocking back “booby shots”, apparently licking salt off another partygoer’s breast, before downing a shot of alcohol and giving a thumbs up.

Videos of the boozy bash were posted on Ms Arcuri’s YouTube channel in 2010.

It comes as fresh claims emerged of apparent concerns over grants received by Ms Arcuri for her firm Innotech after she met Mr Johnson in 2012.

Kylie Jenner is back on the single circuit following her split from rapper boyfriend and babydaddy Travis Scott.

The 22-year-old was pictured for the first time since news of the break-up emerged in exclusive pictures obtained by DailyMail.com.

She partied with pals Anastasia 'Stassi' Karanikolaou and Kelsey Calemine at West Hollywood hot spot Delilah from around midnight until shortly after 2am.

EFCC re-arrests and re-arraigns internet fraudster who absconded after bail (photo)

A fugitive alleged internet fraudster Abolarin Kayode has been re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and docked again before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin.

Kayode was arraigned on seven-count charges, bordering on internet fraud and other fraud-related offences. He was initially arraigned sometime in February 2019 before Justice Babagana Ashigar of Federal High Court, Ilorin but absconded after he was granted bail.

However, his luck ran out sometime in August as EFCC operatives traced him to Government Reserved Area (G.R.A.) Ilorin where he was re-arrested.

One of the charge reads, “That you, Abolarin Kayode (alias Lauren Saint) on or about the 6th day of February 2019, in Ilorin within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Kwara State, with intent to defraud, had in your possession a document containing false pretence, to wit, an email titled “Paid to drive initiative by your Budweiser,” which you sent to one Chad Bakichan American citizen through your acclaimed email laurensaint345@gmail.com, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 6 read along with Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1 of the same Act.”

On his re-arraignment today, he pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa to ask the court for a trial date and for him to be remanded in prison custody.

In his response, counsel to the defendant, Mr I. Abdulazeez pleaded with the court to remand his client in the custody of the EFCC, which was refused by the judge.

Justice Oyinloye adjourned the matter till October 17, 2019 and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison.

Judge denies R. Kelly's request to get out of jail

Prosecutors ain't buying R. Kelly's excuse he needs to get outta jail while his criminal case is pending ... saying the singer's full of BS, and is likely to make a run for it.

According to new legal documents, obtained by TMZ ... the government says Kelly's definitely a flight risk if he gets outta jail, even though the singer's legal team claims his passport doesn't contain a single stamp showing international travel.

In documents, prosecutors say earlier this year after he was released on bail in Illinois, Kelly sought to travel to Dubai with his two GFs, each of whom took steps to get their own passports.

Prosecutors also called BS on Kelly's legal team claiming the singer won't tamper with or intimidate witnesses. The government contends Kelly "has a history of coercing women to write letters containing false and embarrassing allegations" so he can later use them as blackmail.

And, then there's this ... prosecutors say Kelly's claim he's broke is misleading because he continues to get hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties for his music. What's more ... the government argues it found out he's redirecting these royalties to the bank account of a childhood friend, but could easily redirect the dough to himself.

The government's docs don't include any visible response to Kelly's claim he's in failing health and should be released as a result. However, chunks of the document are redacted.

Recall Kelly's lawyer filed legal docs in which they outline various medical issues, including numbness in one of his hands, anxiety and an untreated hernia.

Kelly's legal team, in their filing, assured the judge the singer would not be a flight risk and he vowed not to tamper with or intimidate witnesses.

But his request to be let out of jail was turned down.

R. Kelly will remain in jail at least until his 2020 trial

R.Kelly will not get bail. In a motion filed in Brooklyn on Monday, his legal team argued that he couldn’t flee due to lack of funds and a passport, per the *Chicago Tribune,* and that he’s been held under unfair conditions—that is, only one of his two formerly live-in girlfriends has been allowed to visit at a time.

“Presently, he is only allowed one unrelated person to visit,” his lawyer Steven Greenberg wrote. “In other words, although he lives and has lived with two lady friends, only one of them is allowed to be on his visiting list, and after 90 days he is required to switch. No other friends or professional colleagues are allowed to visit. That is not right.”

When the motion was argued in court on Wednesday, however, Brooklyn federal judge Ann Donnelly didn’t bite. She said that Kelly’s finances are “murky, to say the least,” and that home detention “certainly would do nothing to deter” him from intimidating witnesses.

Ex-Dallas cop who killed black neighbour is jailed for 10 years (photos)

Ex-Dallas cop Amber Guyger just got 10 years in prison on the heels of her conviction for murdering her neighbor, Botham Jean, whose brother created a shocking moment in court.

The sentencing went down Wednesday in Dallas and while there were cheers when it was announced, the most stunning event came earlier when Brandt Jean gave his victim's impact statement. He spoke directly to Guyger and told her to go to God and ask for forgiveness. He got choked up as he asked the judge if he could hug Guyger.

The judge said yes, and then they tearfully embraced for nearly a minute. You could hear people crying in court.

Brandt said he never wanted to tell his family he's personally forgiven Guyger.

Botham's family members burst into tears after her 10-year sentence was announced, and it appears even Judge Tammy Kemp -- who is black -- was moved by Brandt's statement. After the hearing, she also embraced Guyger.

Guyger fatally shot Jean just over a year ago inside his apartment after she mistakenly entered thinking it was hers and believing he was a burglar. She later lost her job after an internal affairs investigation determined she engaged in "adverse conduct."
