There is no hunger in Nigeria – Agric Minister

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Sabo Nanono on Monday said Nigeria is producing enough to feed itself, contrary to the narrative in some quarters that there is hunger in the land.

Nanono said this at a news conference in Abuja as part of the activities to mark the 2019 World Food Day being celebrated internationally on Oct. 16.

He said it was wrong to promote the idea that there was hunger in Nigeria, adding that there were only inconveniences being addressed by the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders like the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

According to the minister, the World Food Day is set aside to discuss food production.

“From what I am seeing in this conference room, there is no sign of hunger but obesity. Only a few people like me are either trying to balance their diet or is it fasting that is responsible for the way some of us look?

“The policy of the present government for us to feed ourselves is key. In the process value chains are being created to empower people and give out some jobs.

“I think we are producing enough now to feed ourselves and I think there is no hunger but if you say inconveniences I would agree.

“When people talk about hunger I laugh because they do not know hunger. If you go to other countries you will see what hunger is.

“Food in Nigeria is fairly cheap compared to other countries. In Kano for instance, you can eat N30 worth of food and be satisfied. So, we should be thankful that we can feed ourselves and we have relatively cheap food in this country,” he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores 700th career goal

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal on Monday, in a match in which Portugal lost 1-2 to Ukraine.

Ronaldo scored his landmark goal for club and country from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute.

The goal was Ronaldo’s 95th for Portugal.

The 34-year-old is now just 14 goals behind the all-time international record of 109 held by former Iran striker Ali Daei.

While the exact number of goals scored by some of the game’s legends is the subject of debate, Ronaldo is agreed to be the sixth player to reach 700 after Austrian Josef Bican, Brazilians Romario and Pele, Hungarian Ferenc Puskas and German Gerd Muller.

Ronaldo celebrated the landmark on his Instagram page, posting a video of the penalty blast and using the hashtag #CR700.

Woman in a five-year relationship with Boeing 737-800 - and it's 'physical'

A woman says she’s been in a five year relationship with the love of her life - a passenger jet she calls 'darling'.

Michele Köbke, 30, from Berlin, Germany considers herself in a relationship with the Boeing 737-800.

Michele says she’s been in love with the aircraft for five years and their relationship is very much physical.

She said: “The 737-800 is very attractive and sexy to me. He’s the most beautifully built, and he’s a very attractive and elegant aircraft.”

She even nicknamed the 737-800 “Schatz” which translates into “Darling”.

But unlike regular relationships, Michele is unable to spend quality time with her boyfriend, adding:

“A relationship with a plane is not easy and at times difficult.

“I can only get close to him when I fly with him or when I can get to him in the hangar, which has only happened once in my life.”

However, she has found different ways to indulge in her affection.

She said: “I have a big model of him made of fibreglass as well as real components from him so I can act out my love to some degree.”

She showed BTV various pictures of her kissing the 737-800 and cuddling with components such as doors and panels.

Michele’s affection for the aeroplane is known as objectophilia – when sexual or romantic attraction is focused on a particular inanimate object.

But Michele doesn’t see the physical side of her relationship with the Boeing as any different to with humans.

She explained: “It’s like a normal relationship, we have relaxing evenings together and when we go to bed, we cuddle and fall asleep together”.

Michele realised she had a weakness for aeroplanes when she took her first flight in November 2013.

22 danger signs you must watch out for when using a gas cylinder

There have been many cases of gas cylinder explosions these days which leads to loss of lives and properties. Here are 22 danger signs you must watch out for when using a gas cylinder

Cooking gas cylinders must not exceed five years: most people using gas cylinders hardly remember when it was bought. It is important to keep track of the days and replace them as soon as possible.

Do not buy used Gas cylinders.

Watch out for the expiry dates: The steps to check the expiry date are very simple and basic. The expiry of LPG cylinder can be found on one of the metal strips that connect the body of the cylinder to top ring (handle). It is mentioned on the inner side of the strip. The strip has any of the alphabets from A to D painted on it along with a number. Decoding the expiry date is simple. The alphabet represents the month it expires while the number indicates the year. A year is divided into four quarters :

A – January to March

B – April to June

C – July to  September

D – October to  December

For example, your cylinder has ‘A 18  painted on the metal strip. The alphabet A represents month March and 18 indicates the year 2018.

·       Use gas cylinders in a vertical position, unless specifically designed to be used otherwise

·       Securely restrain cylinders to prevent them from falling over

·       Always double check that the cylinder/gas is the right one for the intended use.

·       Before connecting a gas cylinder to equipment or pipe-work make sure that the regulator and               pipe-work are suitable for the type of gas and pressure being used.

·       When required, wear suitable safety shoes and other personal protective equipment when                     handling gas cylinders.

·       Do not use gas cylinders for any other purpose than the transport and storage of gas.

·        Do not drop, roll or drag gas cylinders.

·       Close the cylinder valve and replace dust caps, where provided when a gas cylinder is not in                 use.

·       Where appropriate, fit cylinders with residual pressure valves (non-return valves) to reduce the            risk of backflow of water or other materials into the cylinder during use that might corrode it              (e.g. beer forced into an empty gas cylinder during cylinder change-over).

·       Ensure the valve is protected by a valve cap or collar, or that the valve has been designed to                withstand impact if the cylinder is dropped.

·       Store gas cylinders in a dry, safe place on a flat surface in the open air. If this is not reasonably             practicable, store in an adequately ventilated building or part of a building specifically reserved           for this purpose.

·       Cylinders containing flammable gas should not be stored in part of a building used for other                 purposes.

·       Protect gas cylinders from external heat sources that may adversely affect their mechanical                   integrity.

·       Gas cylinders should be stored away from sources of ignition and other flammable materials.

·       Avoid storing gas cylinders so that they stand or lie in water.

·       Ensure the valve is kept shut on empty cylinders to prevent contaminants from getting in.

·       Store gas cylinders securely when they are not in use. They should be properly restrained unless          designed to be free-standing.

·       Gas cylinders must be clearly marked to show what they contain and the hazards associated                 with  their contents.

·       Store cylinders where they are not vulnerable to hazards caused by impact, e.g. from vehicles              such as fork-lift trucks.

Emir Sanusi reportedly sacks Palace Chief for welcoming Ganduje

Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11 has reportedly ordered the sack of Maja Siddin Sarkin Kano, Alhaji Auwalu for participating in the grand reception in honour of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje last Wednesday.

The Maja Sidden Sarkin Kano, who is in-charge of decorating the Emir’s Horse, was also asked to vacate his residence of over 30 years, The Nation reports.

The paper learnt that the development has caused serious disaffection within the Kano Emirate Council.

Trouble stated for Alhaji Auwalu when he raised the portrait of the late Emir of Kano, His Highness, Sarkin Ado Abdullahi Bayero in celebration with Ganduje as the Governor’s long convoy passed through the Emir’s Palace from Kano airport towards Government House last Wednesday.

A Palace source, who craved anonymity, said Emir Sanusi who was not in Kano during Ganduje’s reception was highly angered over the action Auwalu.

The Palace source further stated: “You know what is happening between the Emir and Governor Ganduje. In fact, members of the Emirate Council were warned against attending any government function which the Emir did not approve of.

“The Emir was outraged over the action of Maja Siddin Sarkin Kano, which he considered as acts of disloyalty. This man is a very popular man within the Palace. He arranges the Horse for the Emir and he has stayed in the Palace for over 30 years.

“People around here are not happy over his plight. People are angry because they believe he is being treated unjustly. I don’t think it is a sin to join happy residents to celebrate the Tribunal victory and home-coming of Governor Ganduje.”

Oshiomole Cries Out, Accuses Gov. Obaseki As Hoodlums Storm His Mansion

APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole has accused the Edo State government of orchestrating last Saturday’s siege to his Benin home. There is a frosty relationship between the party chair, who is the immediate past governor and his ‘godson’ — Governor Godwin Obaseki — ostensibly over the governor’s second term bid.

Explaining the Saturday night ‘attack’ on his home, Oshiomhole’s spokesman Simon Ebegbulem told The Nation on the telephone: “The National Chairman was in Benin on Saturday to attend a birthday party. While he was still at the party around 8pm, the state government sent thugs to his house. They were over 50 singing war songs.

“They blocked the entrance of his gate until the security people there called those with him to alert him (Oshiomhole) about what was happening. That was how APC youths were swiftly alerted and they stormed the house with policemen.

“The thugs fled when they saw the youth and policemen. We are wondering what thugs will be doing at the residence of the national chairman at that time of the night.

“If the national chairman had arrived there without knowing, they would have attacked him. We are accusing the state government because the governor has been clamping down on all those opposed to him.”

Ebegbulem claimed that the action at Oshiomhole’s home, was part of the resolution reached at the last Exco meeting that all opposing anti-Obaseki second term bid be attacked.

But Governor Obaseki denied having anything to do with it. The governor’s spokesman Mr. Crusoe Osagie said: “It is a lie. There was no attack. Nothing happened in the area where Oshiomhole lives.
“The Edo State government has said it has no knowledge of the purported attack on the person or residence of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. We have no knowledge of the attack. We have also reached out to the police, and they affirmed that they do not know about such an attack.”

Edo Police Commissioner San Mallam Abubakar also denied there was an attack. The police boss said some persons at the party chairman’s home planning a protest were dispersed.

Sanwo-Olu Declares State Of Emergency On Lagos Roads

Lagos State government has declared a state of emergency on dilapidated highways, carriage roads within the state with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's order on Sunday that massive rehabilitation work on critical roads and highways across the State must commence today, Monday.

Sanwo-Olu’s directive followed the conclusion of his series of meetings with eight multi-national engineering firms and a subsequent directive that work must commence on major highways identified as critical to reduce traffic congestions on highways in Lagos.

The Governor said that eight engineering firms have been instructed to immediately mobilise to the respective sites and commence major construction work on the identified roads.

He said: “This afternoon, we have just concluded meeting with various reputable construction companies and all of them have been given the brief to immediately commence major construction work in various parts of the State. The exercise will begin tomorrow with palliative work on the selected roads, which are both on the Island and Mainland divisions of the State”.

“The contractors have been given the mandate to start mobilising to their respective sites without further delay. Their activities must first give our people an immediate relief on the affected roads so that there can be free flow of traffic even during the rehabilitation work”, the Governor emphasised.

To complement the major construction work on the highways, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) would be carrying out repairs of 116 inner roads across the State, in addition to over 200 roads already rehabilitated by the Corporation in the last three months.

He maintained that he was aware of the pain experienced by road users which was aggravated by persistent downpour, appealing to residents to bear with the Government while efforts were being made to assuage their pains and bring permanent relief.

Emir Sanusi Sacks Palace Chief For Celebrating With Ganduje?

The Maja Sidden Sarkin Kano, who is in-charge of decorating the Emir’s Horse, was also asked to vacate his residence of over 30 years. What led to this?

According to The Nation learnt that the development has caused serious disaffection within the Kano Emirate Council. Trouble stated for Alhaji Auwalu when he raised the portrait of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero in celebration with Ganduje as the Governor’s long convoy passed through the Emir’s Palace from Kano airport towards Government House last Wednesday.

Trouble For Oshiomhole As Moves To Sack Him Begins

If tempers and tensions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) household are anything to go by, the days of Adams Oshiomhole as party boss might be numbered.

A high party official told Daily Sun that, judging by the magnitude of a plot against a beleaguered Oshiomhole, he might not last into January 2020 as the party’s national chairman.

The party source disclosed that the plot came to a head a few months ago with the involvement of many APC governors, but that the Presidency had moved to curb further escalation pending the outcome of the ruling on the Presidential Election Appeal Tribunal.

“I am sure you know why all the plots to remove him were put on hold,” the APC source said to Daily Sun, “and I am also sure you are not among those wondering why the hostilities and antagonisms from many quarters against him died down. The Presidency had intervened, pleading with every aggrieved person against Oshiomhole to temporarily pipe low and sheathe their swords until after the Presidential Election Appeal Tribunal rules on the outcome of the 2019 presidential election.”

The source explained that “the Presidency had said that it will not be good for the party to be divided ahead of the ruling because it will not only certainly send a negative signal but also portray the party in a light capable of affecting the outcome of the judgement. The Presidency, again, claimed that his services and approach was needed before the judgement.”

Speaking further, the chieftain noted that now that Tribunal has ruled, the plot to remove Oshiomhole as chairman has restarted, with mostly the aggrieved state governors leading the charge.

“There is overwhelming evidence to nail and remove him, and I can confirm to you that Oshiomhole cannot last as the national chairman of APC beyond January next year, that is if he survives the plot by December this year. We have had enough and he must leave before he kills the party. If he fails to take the diplomatic option of resigning honourably, be sure he will be booted out on or before the deadline I gave you,” the source added.

Prepare For Indefinite Strike – NLC tells workers

Workers in the country have been directed to get ready for an indefinite industrial action expected to begin from October 16. The directive is from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the umbrella body of the entire Nigerian work force.

The federal government and the organised labour failed to reach an agreement over relativity and consequential adjustments for the implementation of the new N30,000 minimum wage more than six months after it was signed into law.
The workforce body is demanding a 29 percent salary increase for officers on salary level 07 to 14 and 24 percent adjustment for officers on salary grade level 15 to 17.
The government on its part, proposed an 11 percent salary increase for officers on grade level 07 to 14 and 6.5 percent adjustment for workers of grade level 15 to 17.

But in a secular dispatched to its state councils and signed by the General Secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the body said the preparation to down tools was incase the proposed negotiations between it and the government slated for October 15 yields no fruit.

The circular read; “You will recall that a joint Communiqué was issued by the NLC, Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Committee (JNPSNC) stating that two weeks from the date of the said communiqué, industrial harmony could not be guaranteed in the country should an agreement not be reached with the Federal Government on the Consequential Adjustment of Salaries as a result of the New National Minimum Wage of N30,000.

“You are hereby directed to coordinate preparations with TUC and JNPSNC in your States for necessary industrial action should the time expire without an agreement as contained in the circular."

Excited Nigerian Pastor Sprays Dollars As His Church Member Dedicates Quadruplets

Pastor Ephraim Ononye was pictured spraying notes of US dollars as his church member dedicates her quadruplets (four babies). Sharing the news on Facebook, he wrote....

'The rain of US dollars
4 babies (quadruplets) celebration.
The end of barrenness.
End of the discussion.

Where are those that called Precious a fruitless tree?
Where are (those) that said she will never have a child?

Where are those that said all manner of things against Precious, simply because she was waiting on the Lord. Today, Mr and Mrs Ezeh from Awkuzu but based in Abakaliki celebrates God's Gift of 4 babies at a time.

No consultation fee was paid,
No buying of card to see the man of God.
No deliverance fees.
No money for any special spiritual work was collected from this family.

Yet their sorrow was turned to Joy.
My own is to celebrate and spray dollars up and down.
See me see dollars.

Can you join me to congratulate this lovely family... And to share this post. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Ezeh'

Woman collapses on TV after over-zealous hairdresser cuts off her hair in reality contest

The victim of an over-zealous hairdresser has been hailed for her 'relatable' reaction when she fainted on TV.The Turkish show Kuaförüm Sensin, which translates to 'you're my hairdresser', is a reality contest pitting makeup artists and hair stylists against one another to showcase their skills

On one of the more memorable episodes, hairdresser Bilal Ağın wanted to cut his model's hair in support of the 'Let My Hair Be Your Hair' project for cancer survivors.

The only problem with the thoughtful gesture was that he didn't run the idea past his model İlayda beforehand.

Having walked on to the show with hair flowing all the way down her back, Bilal's scissors quickly reduced her locks to a shoulder length cut, as reported by the Daily Mail .

As the hairdresser beams clutching years worth of precious growth, the model reaches to run her hands through her hair, unaware of what has happened.

It seems to take her a few brushes before reality fully sets in as to where her hair now ends and she begins to break down as the three judges look on stunned by her unexpected reaction.

As the other contestants pretend unconvincingly not to have seen it all go down, İlayda throws off her robe in protest as Bilal smiles awkwardly at the floor.

The model then attempts to make a quick exit away from the glare of the cameras, but doesn't make it to the door before collapsing into the arms of one of the show's assistants, who calls for help.

The whole time Bilal stands watching on speechless with his hands planted on his hips.

The clip quickly racked up more than 12 million views on Twitter where it was posted with the caption: "I'm SCREAMINNN why is that so relatable."

Many users were quick to share in her pain.
