Always to remove feminine symbols from sanitary products to be 'more inclusive'

Back in June, transgender campaigner Ben Saunders contacted sanitary product brand Always to ask them one important question.

Why do they feature feminine logos on all of their packaging? And it turns out that Ben wasn't the only person who wanted to know the answer.

A Twitter user who goes by the name Melly Boom also messaged Always, asking why it is "imperative to have the female symbol on their sanitary products".

She added: "There are non-binary and trans folks who still need to use your products too you know!"


Always, which is owned by Procter & Gamble (P&G), have taken the comments and questions on board and responded with a letter, explaining the action they plan to take.

In the letter to Ben, Sheryl, a member of the Always team, revealed that the company had decided to remove the feminine logo from their packaging.

Sheryl wrote: "Dear Ben, I wanted to come back to you regarding your message about the Always wrappers' design with the female symbol on it you sent 18/06/2019.

"We listened to you and our marketing team worked a solution!
"We are glad to inform you that as of December we will use a new wrapper design without the feminine symbol.

"Please just be aware that you might find products with the old wrapper design in the stores for some weeks after December, as the distribution of the new packages might take some time - the new designs should be in store Jan/Feb 2020."

She added: "We are absolutely grateful for having people like you voicing their opinions. Thank you for contacting us, your comments help us improve every day!"

The move was praised by a number of people, including Ben and Melly, for being inclusive.

Another person on social media that supported the decision, said: "I understand that you guys love girl positivity but please understand that there are trans men that get periods."
However many women were unhappy about the decision and argued that it was "eliminating women's biology".

EFCC jails Prince Ekhator busted over $500K internet heist (photo)

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja on October 21, 2019, sentenced and convicted one Ekhator Prince (a.k.a Maxwell), to six months imprisonment on a two-count charge, bordering on cybercrimes and impersonation.

Ekhator Prince was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, after he was busted trying to swindle an American woman, online of $500.000.

He was arraigned on September 9, 2019 in court.


Count one of the charge reads: “That you Ekhator Prince (a.k.a Maxwell) Sometime in 2019 at Abuja FCT within the Jurisdiction of this honorable court, did fraudulently impersonate a United States citizen named Maxwell on Hangout social media application account, with the intent to obtain the sum of 500,000 USD (Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) from one Katie Henderson of United States of America, through the Western Union account of one Paul, and there by committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (iv) of the same Act”.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him.

However, prosecution counsel, Maryam Hayatudden, told the court that the defendant had on October 18 2019, filed a plea bargain agreement which was signed by both parties and urged the court to adopt the agreement and convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.

Justice Abang, while noting that plea bargain was in line with the provision of Section 22 (2)(b) and (22) (iv) of the Cyber-Crime Prohibition Prevention Act 2015”, convicted and sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment with effect from the day of conviction.

Abang gave Ekhator the option to pay with N300, 000 as fine, which must be paid to the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the EFCC, “In line with the plea bargain agreement, which the defendant lawfully, willingly, and voluntarily entered into by the prosecution and defendant on October 18, 2019.”

Nurse breaks down after delivering stillborn baby in heartbreaking picture

A heartbreaking and emotive picture of a nurse has gone viral as it captures the huge pressures facing hospital workers every week.

The image shows a distraught woman, identified as Caty Nixon, sitting in a chair in tears having worked 53 hours in four days - and having just delivered a stillborn baby.

Her sister, Laura McIntyre, captured her sister slumped in the chair, a plate of food on her lap and her hand wiping tears from her eyes.

Laura wrote: "She's gonna kill me for this pic, but can we just give it up for nurses for a minute?


"Caty just wrapped up her fourth shift in a row. That's around 53+ hours in four days. that's not including the 1.5 hours she's in the car each day.

"She usually doesn't get a chance to eat lunch or even drink much water, and she has to dress like a blueberry... I mean, come on.

"She is so good at what she does that she often forgets how to take care of herself while she's taking care of her patients."
Laura said the image was taken in July after Caty came to her house after a particularly tough day.

She had delivered a stillborn baby and Laura revealed the full extent of the emotional rollercoaster nurses have to endure every day.

Laura added: "Have you guys ever really thought about what a labor and delivery nurse sees? They see great joy in smooth deliveries and healthy moms and babies.

"They see panic and anxiety when a new mom is scared. They see fear when a stat c-section is called. They see peace when the mom has support from her family - because not all new moms do.

"They see teenagers giving birth. They see an addicted mom give birth to a baby who is withdrawing. They see cps come. They see funeral homes come. Did you know that they have to make arrangements for the funeral home to come pick up the baby? I didn't either."

Her post has received a huge response from people online, after she ended by telling Caty and all other nurses that "you are SPECIAL. You bless your patients and their families more than you will ever know. Thank you for all that you do."

The post garnered more than 21,000 comments and 124,000 shares. Laura received messages from across the world and said: "I just think the positivity of it is the most amazing thing. Just to spread love," she said.

Saraki reacts as court orders the forfeiture of his properties in Ikoyi

The immediate past Senate President, Bukola Saraki says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, misled Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos into granting an order of temporary forfeiture of two of his properties in Ikoyi area to the Federal Government.

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi had on Monday ordered the temporary forfeiture of two properties located in Ikoyi area of Lagos State and belonging to Saraki, to the Federal Government.

However, Saraki, in series of tweets on Monday evening, said his attention had been drawn to an order granted by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos pursuant to an ex-parte application by the EFCC.


“It is my believe that the Judge was misled into granting this order and was not presented with the full position of the law or the facts.

“It is my believe that the Court was not informed of a pending Order of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja restraining the EFCC from taking any steps regarding the seizure of the property in question pending the determination of a suit filed before that Court,” he said.

Saraki said he also believed that the Court was not made aware that the property in question formed part of the judgment of the Court given on July 6, 2018 where the Supreme Court declared that the source of funds for the purchase of the property was not illicit as claimed by the prosecution.

According to him, “The Supreme Court specifically referred to No 17a McDonald Road, Ikoyi on pages 12, 13 and 26 of its judgment upholding the no-case submission made before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

“I am confident that once these facts and the declaration of the Supreme Court are brought before the Court, this order will be vacated. My lawyers will be approaching the court immediately to achieve this.”

Football fans can be fined £300 for putting a club sticker on their car

Showing your colours on your car could end up becoming an expensive mistake - and it's nothing to do with vandalism from rival fans.

That's after it emerged football club stickers can count as "modifications" according to some insurance companies - and if you don't let them know, you could invalidate your cover - or even end up with 6 points on your licence and a £300 fine.

That's according to an investigation from Auto Express and the British Insurance Brokers Association.

“While some additions to your car are obvious candidates for telling your insurer about, many motorists will be surprised by the strict definition of modification, and how even a sticker in the back window could void your policy,” said Auto Express consumer editor Hugo Griffiths.


It's not an idle threat, either.

A few years ago Reverend Wena Parry, 75, sent photos of her car as part of a claim, only for the insurance company to say she had 10 days to explain why she hadn't told them about the stickers she applied and warned "the policy may be declared void".

In a letter Age UK Insurance said: "These modifications do not fit our acceptance criteria for motor insurance. Cover would have been declined if we had been made aware of these at the time of purchasing your policy."

While her insurer did, eventually, pay out - the warning it there for all to see.

“Failing to declare something as humble as paint protection film or different alloy wheels could void a policy entirely, potentially costing thousands in the event of an incident, and even putting motorists at risk of a £300 fine and six penalty points,” Griffiths said.

Two 17-year-old boys found stabbed at house party

Two 17-year-old boys have died after being stabbed at a house party in Milton Keynes. Police have launched a double murder investigation after being called to the address in the Emerson Valley area of the city.

One teen died at the scene, while the second died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

Two adults also suffered serious injuries in the incident, which happened shortly before midnight on Saturday.

Neighbours have told Mirror Online that there had been a party at the £600,000 home, and believe gatecrashers had turned up uninvited.

No arrests have been made, Thames Valley Police said in a statement this morning.

The scene is currently cordoned off as forensic officers gather evidence.

Defunct NEPA helicopters up for sale

After years of neglect, four helicopters inherited from the defunct National Electric Power Authority by the Transmission Company of Nigeria have been valued at $720,000 (N259.20m) ahead of the proposed sale of the aircraft.

The government-owned TCN has expressed its readiness to put up for sale the Bolkow BO-105 helicopters, parked at the old domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Punch gathered that the helicopters, which were used for surveillance and fixing of faults on power transmission lines across the country, had been sitting idle at the airport for many years.


It was learnt that two of the helicopters, with registration numbers 5N-ASK and 5N-ASJ, had been grounded since 1995 and 1997, respectively. They were manufactured in 1978.

According to the TCN, it is uneconomical to repair them but they can be sold for $100,000 each in their current state.

The other two helicopters, with registration numbers 5N-BCJ and 5N-EPA, have been idle since 2008 and were valued at $340,000 and $180,000, respectively.

In the video 'King' Khan and Faryal are seen to be discussing money, with the former world champion wanting to change 7 million US dollars to GBP before the pound gets stronger due to Brexit .

However, during the discussion his beloved wife said that she'd accidentally transferred £2m into Sam's, a friend in on the prank, account rather than the £20 she actually owed him.


Makhdoom added that he was no longer returning her calls to continue the back story.

Rage took over 32-year-old Khan, "What the f*** do you do all day?" he said in response.

"From £20 you were supposed to put in, to £2million?
"How do we get him to send it back?

"Legally, that’s it. We can’t chase him back for that money.

IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu loses mom

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has lost his mom. He announced the loss on his Facebook page, saying his mother passed away in Germany on August 30, 2019.

Accroding to him, his mother, Ugoeze Sally Kanu died as a result of the trauma she faced when Nigerian soldiers stormed their Afaraukwu home in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State on September 14, 2017 during the Operation Python Dance exercise.

He claimed that his mother, seeing how soldiers slaughtered people in their compound got traumatised and took ill, which unfortunately she never recovered from.

He then said Biafra remained the most critical and important thing, adding that his mother had been sacrificed to ensure it became a reality.

Lady Gaga whole body X-rayed after falling off stage

Pop sensation Lady Gaga has revealed her fall off stage on Thursday left doctors so worried they X-rayed nearly her whole body for broken bones.

The Born This Way singer, 33, took a tumble after a fan decided to pick her up during the Las Vegas gig.

Gaga took to Instagram to let fans know she's OK, and even made light of the incident.

Sharing a snap of her X-rayed hand making the A-OK sign with her 37.4 million followers, she wrote: "When they have to X-ray almost your entire body..."


Referencing one of her biggest hits, she added: "Just Dance. Gonna be ok."

She had invited a fan up on stage during her performance, but they decided to pick up the singer and dry hump her, at which point they lost their footing and tumbled with Gaga off the stage.

Gaga also stripped off and plunged herself into an ice bath after the fall.

She told fans: "Post show routine: ice bath for 5-10 min, hot bath for 20, then compression suit packed with ice packs for 20."

Men catch huge crocodile bare-handed using only towel and some string

Daredevil friends caught a huge saltwater crocodile bare-handed using just a towel and some string in terrifying footage.

The group - which included a lifeguard - were filmed at Costa Rica's Dominical Beach, in Bahia Ballena de Osa, where they lured in the 8ft predator and eventually wrapped its mouth with a towel.

According to local reports, the giant male had been rejected by females and moved to a different habitat, where it scared seven surfers and 10 beachgoers.

Fortunately, it had been spotted in time and the beach visitors were able to quickly move to a safe distance before the group set about catching it.


In the footage, the crocodile is seen in the water close to the beach, and another scene shows the moment the group catches it with a towel before sitting on it and tying its mouth with string.

Reports said the crocodile was taken to a safe location where it will be checked by specialists and released into the wild in an area called Tortuga.

Model says she won't date 'stingy men' who want to split the bill on dates

The end of a first date can be an awkward affair when the bill lands on the table. You both attempt to work out how it will be paid using eye contact only to avoid having the conversation and bringing an awkward end to the night.

However, an author and model has made her feelings on the issue very clear by warning men that if they expect her to split the bill, they simply won't be seeing her again.

Writing an opinion article on SHESAID , the site's dating expert Peta Serras explains why the expectation of splitting the bill is a bad omen in a piece titled 'I’m just going to say it – guys who split the bill on dates are d*****bags'.


Peta says: "Splitting the bill on dates sets the precedent for a relationship, one where everything is straight down the middle. And where does that end?

"Does that mean we should keep monthly spreadsheets and document when we give sexual favors and how much we give emotionally to ensure we’re even every month?"

She explains she had never given much thought to 'going Dutch' until a promising first date quickly took a nosedive when it came time to pay and she got the expectant look.

Every date which followed ended the same way, with the man expecting Peta to pay her way 'despite the large pay gap due to his generous salary'.

She says she has no aversion to funding her own expenses but wasn't happy that he insisted on a 50/50 split despite her being the one who had travelled due to living out of town.

Her suggestions of alternating payment instead was brushed off and the final straw came when he asked her to cough up £2.40 for coffee after she had driven 40 minutes to see him.

She argues: "People always misread me on this topic; call me a gold digger or a princess, but it’s not actually even about the money, it’s about what the money  signifies.

 " And as it turned out with my demanding date, perhaps unsurprisingly, his money wasn’t the only thing he was stingy with.

"It was this relationship that made me value generosity and really see that some men use the excuse of splitting the bill to hide their stinginess."

The conversation was sparked in Peta's friendship group when a girlfriend of hers went on a date with a man who took her to one of the 'priciest venues in town'.

She says the man was bragging about his pay packet and insisted on picking from the menu for his date, choosing expensive dishes and pricey wine - before asking to split the painfully large bill at the end.

The group debated whether it's still possible to call yourself a feminist while accepting a free meal from a date.

"After all, if we want equal rights, we should be prepared to split the bill equally, right?" wrote Peta.

"I believe you can still consider yourself a feminist and accept a nice meal from someone. And conversely, you can also be a feminist and buy someone else a meal, too.

"It’s when someone uses that term as an excuse to be stingy with their funds that isn’t cool with me, as I feel it says a lot about that person’s character.

"Let me be clear on this: if I ask a guy out and go to the effort of arranging the date, then I expect to foot the bill for the whole date."

She finishes by saying that she believes everyone needs to have standards in dating and relationships, and one of her rules is now not to date a 'stingy' man who wants to split the bill.

How 73-year old singer pulled up on stage 15 years after her last performance (photos)

She performed in Europe for the first time in 15 years last month.

And Cher dazzled the crowds again as she donned an eccentric blue leotard during her O2 London concert on Sunday.

The Believe hitmaker, 73, took to the stage for the first of two concert's in the UK's capital city as part of the next leg of her Here We Go Again tour.

During one Roman-themed number the songstress donned a large electric blue wig and a purple toga.

As the song progressed the wrap was removed to reveal a figure hugging sequinned blue corset leotard which showed off her toned pins.

Adding to the glamour, Cher painted her face with a sweep of rouge and a dusting of pink glitter on her eyes.

Bridegroom slumps at wedding reception, dies

Tragedy struck in Amasiri in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Saturday as a bridegroom, Chukwuemeka Onwuka, slumped at the  reception venue and later died in hospital.

Onwuka was getting married to one Miss Onyinyechi Amadi Ugbor of the Ihie village in the Amasiri community.

The deceased was an ophthalmologist, who hailed from Item in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.


An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Punch Metro that the bridegroom had first danced with well-wishers and family members at the reception venue.

The source stated that after the first dance, the master of ceremonies announced that a missing wristwatch had been found and called on the owner to come for it.

The source said, “Nobody came out to collect the wristwatch. So, the second round of dancing was announced and as the bridegroom approached the dance floor, he fell down and started foaming in the mouth.

“He was carried outside and was being fanned by people, but there was no sign of recovery. It was at that point that it was suggested that he should be taken to hospital.”

It was learnt that Onwuka was later taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctor on duty referred him to the Mater Hospital, Afikpo.

Punch Metro gathered that the bridegroom died before getting to the hospital.

“Yes, he was seen on Thursday very healthy. This incident happened on Saturday at the Amasiri Central School. So, I can tell you that it is either the bridegroom or the bride disappointed someone and the person saw the wedding as an opportunity to avenge,” a close family source said.

NSCDC officer shot by gunmen in Abuja dies

A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Officer, CSP Aku Attah, who was shot by suspected kidnappers in the Pegi community, Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is dead.

Attah was on his way to his residence in Pegi after closing from work on October 8, when he was shot by the gunmen, who also abducted 10 persons, including another NSCDC personnel, Toyin Ayeni, a commercial motorcyclist and a 12-year-old boy.

Attah, 44, died on Sunday at the Specialist Hospital, Gwagwalada, where he was receiving treatment.

He is survived by two children and aged parents, who were by his bedside when he died. Such a real sad news.
