Dr. Dre to be honoured by the Grammys

On Friday (Nov. 1), the Recording Academy announced that the music industry’s most revered producers, engineers, and artistic professionals will salute the six-time Grammy-winning producer at the 13th annual Producers & Engineers Wing.

The event will take place on Jan. 22, 2020 and will kick off the Grammy Week celebration ahead of the 62nd annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 26.

"Dr. Dre is an influential force in music," said Deborah Dugan, President/CEO of the Recording Academy, in a press release.

"Dre breaks boundaries and inspires music creators across every genre. His evolution as a producer solidifies him as a leader of the pack within our industry, and we watch in amazement as he continues to shape the future of music."

Dr. Dre’s musical legacy expands over three decades. The veteran hitmaker started his career in the early 1980s as a DJ for the World Class Wreckin’ Cru before becoming a member of the legendary West Coast rap group N.W.A. In 1991, Dre, along with Suge Knight, founded Death Row Records, and gave us the classic album The Chronic. Dre also produced classic albums for Death Row artists Snoop Dogg (Doggystyle) and the late Tupac Shakur (All Eyez on Me).

The 2018 Grammy Hall of Fame inductee would later produce songs for Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, LL Cool J, Xzibit, Jay-Z and so many others.

21 year-old Chinese man with nine toes on one foot undergoes life-changing surgery

A Chinese man born with nine toes on his left foot has undergone life-changing surgery to remove his extra digits.

Known only as Ajun, he spent his childhood avoiding any social interaction and was too embarrassed to ask a girl on a date.

The self-conscious 21-year-old even threw away his sandals and was made to feel worthless and 'imperfect', local reports state.

Now, he has been given a new lease of life after doctors operated to rid him of the four extra toes which had burdened him for two decades.

Describing his tough schooldays, Ajun said: 'I stopped wearing sandals outside since my third year of primary school.

'I've never had a girlfriend because I'm so imperfect. I never thought I'd find anyone who wants to be with me.'

Ajun's superstitious parents did not want him to have the toes removed because a fortune teller told them they were a good omen.

He suffered for so long with the condition because of his parents' stubborn belief that it was a 'gift from the heavens'.

Ajun said: 'They were superstitious, so they didn't deal with it. They thought if it really looked too bad, I could just cover it with my shoes.'

However, on turning an adult, Ajun, of Lufeng City, southern China, was determined to rid himself of the deformity and seek medical help.

Dr Wu Xiang, from Shunde Heping Surgical Hospital in Foshan, said: 'It's very rare to see such a serious deformity having not been treated in a 21-year-old patient.'

His team spent nine hours operating on Ajun, forging a new big toe and chopping off the extra ones.

Dr Wu said: 'Other hospitals would've just removed his outermost extra toes.

'That would've been the easiest solution, but it wouldn't look the best.

'His most natural looking toe is on the outside, so we decided to migrate it inwards to its most ideal position, replacing his fifth digit and creating a new big toe.'

Ajun, who is recovering in hospital and will be discharged in the coming weeks, said: 'Now I feel great. I'm very grateful to Dr Wu Xiang.

'I think my foot is perfect. He showed me pictures of my foot after surgery, and I'm very happy.'

Dr Wu added: 'For children born with deformities, it's best for them to be examined three months after birth.

'Surgery can happen as early as one year old, but no later than six years old. Basically any time before they start school is fine.

'This is better for the child's psychological well-being, but earlier operations also lead to better recovery results.'

Wedding photo booth captures guest 'cheating on her date with another man'

A wedding photo booth allegedly captured a guest cheating on her date for day with another man.

The booth captured pictures of the woman first kissing her date in the white shirt - before later dressing up and kissing another man in a purple shirt.

According to a Reddit user, the DJ posted the incriminating images the day after the wedding - believed to be in America.

Alongside the images, the user wrote: "The girl in red came as a date with the shark head dude,' she said of the woman and her original date.

They then added: "The purple shirt guy then made out with her in the photo booth and in front of his kids."

The woman in the red dress is seen wearing various fancy dress props as she kisses both men.

Many Reddit users commented on the thread, branding the behaviour "trashy".

One user said: "It's super trashy but I am loving that red dress."

Another wrote: "In front of his kids???? Wow..." and a second penned: "Yeah it's really awful."

How 9ice exposed Mompha, Hushpuppi, Baddy Osha, others to EFCC

9ice might have unknowingly exposed, Mompha, Hushpuppi Baddy Osha to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission without knowing.

Recall one of them was picked up last month by EFCC and still in their custody?

A twitter user, @onlydotcom has now called the attention of EFCC to 9ice's song -- Living Things, which was released in 2016 saying, the commission should sit and listen to the song and investigate everyone mentioned.

The commission however says it is ready to go after them, but will need a petition in order to commence a probe against the social media celebrities.

The Twitter user, @onlydotcom had said;  “EFCC, sit down and listen to the song, Living Things, by 9ice and do your work with the fear of God. Nigeria will be better for it.”

The commission then responded; “Do you mean that (song) could be a petition? Not enough anyway.
However, the Eagle still requests a written statement to support any allegation that has been made.”

Whitney Houston's traumatic family secret she took with her to the grave

Whitney Houston was nursing a deep hurt that she never told her family about at the time of her death.

The global superstar was just 48 when her body was found in the bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11 2012 - and an inquest revealed she'd died with cocaine, cannabis and a number of pills in her system.

She'd been the subject of rumours about drug abuse since the late 1990s due to her jittery, erratic behaviour, weight loss and missing scheduled performances.

She got fired from the 2000 Oscars by close friend Burt Bacharach, who cited throat problems as a cover, but she later admitted to having been sacked from the awards ceremony.

Whitney did come clean about her drug abuse in a 2009 interview with Oprah, confessing her weight loss was down to substance use rather than stress, as her publicist had been telling the media.

But what the I Have Nothing singer didn't reveal was her dark family secret - one she'd been struggling to cope with for her entire life.

There was just one person Whitney confided in as an adult, telling her longtime assistant Mary Jones that she'd been abused by a female family member when she was a child.

Speaking to Kevin Macdonald for his documentary Whitney, Mary revealed how she came to find out about her employer's tragic childhood.

"[Whitney] looked at me and said, 'Mary, I was molested at a young age too. But it wasn't by a man - it was a woman,'" Mary said in the film.

"She had tears in her eyes. She says, 'Mommy don't know the things we went through.' I said, 'Have you ever told your mother?' She says, 'No.' I said, 'Well, maybe you need to tell her.' She said, 'No, my mother would hurt somebody if I told her who it was.'

"She just had tears rolling down her face, and I just hugged her. I said, 'One day when you get the nerve, you need to tell your mother. It will lift the burden off you,'" Mary added.

While Whitney never named her alleged abuser, her elder half-brother Gary Garland claimed he had also been molested by none other than their cousin Dee Dee Warwick - the sister of Dionne Warwick, and niece of Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston.

Dee Dee, who died in 2008, had been in her mid to late 20s at the time of the alleged abuse.

"And for those lies to be perpetuated in this so-called documentary film [Whitney], I think it's evil."

Plane passengers share snaps of the worst in-flight meals they've been served

Peeling back the foil on an in-flight meal can be a sobering experience as you face the realisation it's the food in front of you or a tin of Pringles so overpriced you'll need you to remortgage your home.

From economy to business class, flyers face the perennial disappointment of stomaching meals from chicken 'slop' to cake more reminiscent of a 'building brick'.

In an annual airline survey, Which? Travel readers have been sharing snaps of some of the worst meals they've been dished up at 35,000ft.

Early morning flights can be bad enough but Ryanair passenger Billy Shearer quickly regretted his decision to opt for the Irish breakfast, described as 'the perfect option to fill up and start your day with'.

In reality he was left facing 'a monstrosity' of a soggy potato waffle, shrivelled button mushrooms and congealed white pudding. Top of the morning to you.

It doesn't get much better for Ryanair, with the airline being rated worst performing in the Which? survey overall and was the only carrier to receive an abysmal one-star food rating.

Splashing out extra cash to escape economy doesn't always guarantee customer satisfaction when it comes to meal time either.

David Ball flew business class with British Airways from London Gatwick to Mauritius and any thoughts of luxury went out of the window when he was presented with a chicken biriyani.

He said: "What you see in the picture is a chunk of dry chicken, a piece of dead, burnt cauliflower, a spoonful of gunk and overcooked rice. Awful."
After a relaxing holiday to get over the ordeal, David faced a similar experience during his return journey in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) when he was given this 'so-called omelette'.

He added: "It tasted exactly as it appears in the photo – disgusting."

Ayefele explains why he first denied the news of his triplets and reveals they were born prematurely

First time dad, Yinka Ayefele has explained why he first denied the news of his triplets when news filtered town earlier this year. The singer further revealed he actually welcomed his bundles of joy in January and not July.

He also revealed they were born prematurely in US and had to beg those that saw him at the hospital not to talk about the children outside. Speaking to Saturday beats, the singer and Fresh Fm boss said;

“My babies were actually born on January 18, 2019. They were delivered prematurely, so initially I had to deny the reports when it went viral. I told those who saw me at the hospital in the USA not to disclose that I had given birth because I wanted my triplets to live. I was so scared initially for their lives, I didn’t want anything to happen to them health-wise but I thank God that everything is perfect now, they are doing very fine.

“It’s a thing of joy and I have never experienced it before. I never expected it too because when one is looking for the fruit of the womb, one may get one or at least two but not three. The first time I heard that my wife was pregnant, I was very excited. From the moment we confirmed she was pregnant, I couldn’t describe my joy. But on the day of delivery, seeing the scan, baby A, B and C, it now dawned on me that they were eventually coming to the world.

“The babies have been a source of blessing to me. There have been a lot of changes in all that pertains to me.

“I also appreciate my special wife who endured for over 20 years to achieve this. Some women would have eloped; her family would have pressured her to leave but she was steadfast.”

On whether he helps to change the kids’ diapers and placate them when they are cranky, the 51-year-old singer said, “Of course, it is my duty. The funny thing is that they do the same things at the same time. If one is crying, the second picks it up and so on. They eat, cry and even defecate at the same time. If I’m carrying one, the second would also want me to carry him or her. That’s the most difficult part of it– carrying the three of them at the same time. But I thank God and I can never complain about that,” the dotting father said.

People look down on me because I don't flaunt my wealth- Halima Abubakar sobs

Nolywood actress, Halima Abubakar is not totally happy with the way Nigerians and her colleagues treat her. According to the actress, many look down on her including her colleagues because she does not flaunt her wealth. Lamenting about this to Saturday Beats, Halima says not flaunting her wealth doesn't mean she doesn't have it, but she won't live how others want her to live. She said;

“People do that a lot (look down on me), including my colleagues, because I’m humble and friendly. I get a bit hurt at times because I’m human and blood flows through my veins. But when things like that happen, I usually go mute and allow the person to be stupid.

“I consider those that troll me to be jobless. I think they need to take their lives more seriously. Nobody can take (away) my happiness. They did that 10 years ago and I ended up being sad for seven years for no reason. But I won’t be dragged into such nonsense drama again.

People like fake things – they like to see one living a fake life and sharing it online. But that’s not the kind of life I want to live. I just want to be free. I wouldn’t go out of my way to be fake in order for people to like me.”

Speaking further on life in the industry, tshe said;

“I don’t know who my friends in the industry are anymore; they all have pretentious smiles even though it’s not peculiar to the movie industry. Everywhere, one would see people with fake smiles and I’m not interested in that,” she said.

She added, “I can call Eucharia Anunobi a big sister because she advises me. Also, I have people who love me and can fight for me, even when I’m not there. Calling someone a friend entails a lot. I take my family members as my friends.

“On Instagram, I congratulate my colleagues, even if they are not my friends. I like to hear good news and see good things. I’m a lovely person but I don’t understand the ‘beef’ (some people have with me). Uche Elendu and Uche Ogbodo are my friends and colleagues.”

All 39 people found dead in UK lorry are Vietnamese

All 39 people found dead in a refrigerated lorry in Essex were Vietnamese, police have said.

The victims were found in a container on an industrial estate last week and were initially thought to be Chinese.

But Essex Police said it was now in "direct contact with a number of families in Vietnam and the UK" and the Vietnamese government.

A number of Vietnamese families have previously come forward fearing their loved ones are among the dead.

Pham Thi Tra My, 26, sent her family a message on Tuesday night, saying her "trip to a foreign land has failed".

Post-mortem examinations are being carried out on the 31 men and eight women to establish the cause of death.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Smith said: "At this time, we believe the victims are Vietnamese nationals, and we are in contact with the Vietnamese Government."

He said police were not in a position to identify any of the victims.

Miss Nigeria, Chidinma Aaron speaks as she prepares to hand over crown

After an eventful reign, Chidinma Aaron, Miss Nigeria, will hand over to a new queen on November 30 when the 43rd edition of the pageant holds at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

In this chat with Tony Ogaga, the outgoing queen speaks on her reign and more...

You are handing over to a new queen on November 30. How would you describe your reign?

My reign has been transformational both for me and the new vision of Miss Nigeria. I am really excited because it is a testimony that I have come to the end of my reign. Really, this is something I am proud of. I feel privileged that I could do this; being the 42nd Miss Nigeria is a big achievement for me.

You said ‘transformational’, could you break it down?

A lot of changes took place this year. First change was switching from being under the Miss Nigeria organization to being under the Green Girl Company Limited. Another change is that right now, we have the Green Girl Academy. I thank God we pulled through.

A year is a long time, how would you describe your entire experience as Miss Nigeria?

It has been a learning curve but also a wonderful and illuminative experience. I tried not to expect anything right from the very beginning. The only time I kind of had something on mind was on the grand finale. I could see myself winning and I just held unto that. Aside that, every other day I have taken a step at a time. So, whatever comes, I just apply the best of my ability and I just keep going forward. And so far, it has been okay, because I have been able to manage everything that  comes with the office, and all its challenges.

Let us talk about the glitz and glamour of being Miss Nigeria?

It has been normal, fine, because you just go for events, do the red carpet in great outfits and take pictures. And then, there are interviews and you sit in the VIP (area). You also get to meet and network with a lot of important people, and you always get the VIP treatment.

How has the crown impacted your person?

Being Miss Nigeria has made me more emphatic, I will say, because I am someone who is naturally emphatic. Miss Nigeria has helped me grow as a person. I have been to a lot of places and I have heard and seen a lot of stuff that blew me out of my mind, and I was like, ‘is this really happening in my country?’ I am talking about moving stories, stories that touch the heart, and these young girls are sharing their experiences with me. It has made me know more and broadened my horizons because it has led me to do research, and now I can give answers to these girls when I hear their incredible stories, and they ask me questions.

Could you share your most compelling story with us?

There are lots, but let me talk about these under 17-year-old girl, who is in secondary school, SS2 to be precise. She is  in a dilemma. It is either she gets married and leaves her parents’ home so that her husband can foot her education or she stands her ground, but she is thrown out of her home. Now, that for me is quite tough. Putting a 17-year-old girl in such a dilemma is not right.

EFCC To go after doctors who issue fake medical reports to criminals - Magu

The next set of people on the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are medical doctors who connive with suspected criminals to issue fake medical reports.

This is according to the acting chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, during a briefing in Abuja.

He explained that the antigraft agency is casting its nets wide to investigate other sister agencies such as the police, NGOs in the northeast who carry out similar practices.

“We will extend our investigation to doctors who connive with criminals and give them fake medical reports.

“There is a way they can get a false report from hospitals abroad because they can contact them and they will send it to them, we need to put them on the spot so the practice of giving fake medical reports must stop.”

On the issue of plea bargain strategy for suspected cyber fraudster also known as ‘yahoo boys’, Mr. Magu complained that most of them do not abide by the agreement.

The EFCC boss urged the media to join the fight against corruption by promoting anti-corruption narratives.
