Kanye West says he wants to run for president in 2024

Kanye West has announced his plans to run for president in 2024  but before potentially moving into the White House the rapper might change his name.

Speaking at Fast Company’s Innovation Festival, West, 42, was joined on stage by his Yeezy collaborator Steven Smith.

“When people say it’s crass to call yourself a billionaire, I say I might legally change my name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West for a year until y’all understand exactly what it is,” he said. “It will be on the license plate.”

That’s when West shifted the conversation to his plan to run for president.

“When I run for president in 2024 —” West said, to laughter from the audience. “What y’all laughing at?”

West said that if he were elected president, he would “create so many jobs.”

“I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk,” he said. “What they’re saying is Kanye’s crazy — one and three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing because they’re so scared.”

West also said he believes African American voters are treated as a “demographic” alone, something he said he has experienced as an African American fashion designer.

US court jails Nigerian Victor Alonge for romance scam

Olu Victor Alonge, charged along with six other Nigerians with a multi-year wire fraud scheme, has been sentenced to a 10-year imprisonment by a court in Georgia, United States.

He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr., on October 30, 2019 and ordered to pay $1,835,279.00 in victim restitution, according to a statement by the Department of Justice
U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia.

Thirty-five year-old Alonge, known also as Serge Damessi, Didier Baraze, Mobo Marcus Adeh, Ayo Baraze and Nicolas Soglo had pleaded guilty to an online dating website scheme.

Three other Nigerians have also pleaded guilty to the 60 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, identify theft and the use of false passports.
.
“The conspirators in these cases, including some who were overseas, used fake personas on online dating websites to trick individuals, including elderly retirees, into giving them large amounts of money,” the statement said.

The conspirators spent weeks building online relationships with victims before taking hundreds of thousands of dollars, often from retirement savings or inheritances.

Alonge and the others created fake online dating profiles using photos of men and women that were sometimes public figures like government officials or models and targeted the elderly, Pak said.

“These conspirators often targeted vulnerable individuals who possessed financial assets and in some cases spent months cultivating romantic relationships with them through online messaging, text messaging, and voice calls”, US Attorney’s office said.

There were a total of eight victims, who lost $610,319, $418,697, $388,900, $260,000 and $148,800, respectively.

Onebunne and Adara have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing. Ipoade and Oladipupo are awaiting trial dates.

Two other defendants are fugitives and their identities remain sealed

Alonge, Onebunne, Ipoade and Adara will face immigration removal proceedings after the completion of their criminal cases if convicted, the release said.

Elephant kills Australian tourist in Namibia

An elephant has killed a 59-year-old Australian man in Namibia, the country's tourism ministry says.

In a Facebook post the ministry said the man was killed near the Huab river in the Kunene region where a group of tourists were camping yesterday morning.

"This is a very unfortunate incident and highly regrettable. It has thus far been established that the area in which the group of tourists were camping is not a designated camping site," the post said.

It said a ministry and police investigation was underway.

"Among other things we also want to establish if the tourists were guided by a tour guide."

The ministry urged tourists to always be cautious and adhere to the rules and regulations put in place for their safety.

A blind 15-year-old girl was allegedly r.a.p.e.d by two of her teachers at her boarding school.

Police say Chaman Thakor, 62, and Jayanti Thakor, 30, have fled after the offences and a manhunt is underway.

They've been sacked by the school in Ambaji, west India, which says it is assisting with the investigation.

The girl broke down and told her aunt of the ordeal recently.

It's said Thakor r.a.p.e.d her in September, shortly after the youngster enrolled at the music school.

And the older man allegedly r.a.p.e.d the child just three days later in the same room.

JB Agrawat, who is leading the investigation, says further detail isn't clear at this stage.

China sentences former Japanese politician to life

A court in southern China on Friday sentenced 76-year-old Japanese politician, Takuma Sakuragi to life in jail for attempting to smuggle drugs in a suitcase in 2013.

The intermediate court in the province of Guangzhou ruled that Takuma Sakuragi, a former assemblyman from Japan’s Aichi prefecture, tried to smuggle home 3.289 kg (7.25 lb) of methamphetamine, it said in a post on its official social media account.

Sakuragi was detained during a baggage check at Baiyun airport in Guangzhou.

Herdsman kills sibling for having affair with wife

A Kwara State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ilorin has remanded a cattle herder, Iliasu Abubakar, in the Federal Correctional Centre, Ilorin, after confessing to murdering his brother, Isah, in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government area of the state.

Iliasu, who is standing trial for culpable homicide, allegedly killed his brother over allegation that the deceased was having an amorous affair with his wife.

The offence, according to the police prosecutor, is contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

It was gathered that one Umaru Abubakar of Budo-Aiki, Fulani camp, via Gwanara, reported the incident at the community police post, from where it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, for discreet investigation.

Umaru, who is the father of the two brothers, had gone to the camp of his sons but found no one around except for the cattle.

When he searched the camp, Umaru found Isah’s corpse, with machete cuts on his neck, but his brother was nowhere to be found.

It was learnt that discreet investigation into the incident revealed that Iliasu killed his brother and fled to Oyo State.

After he was arrested, Iliasu reportedly confessed to the police that he dealt his brother machete blows for having an illicit affair with his wife.

The deceased was said to have once confessed to his brother that he fathered the three-year-old child his wife was nursing.

The suspect said he had warned the deceased on several occasions to stop the affair with his wife but he did not heed the warning, hence, Iliasu attacked him.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sanni Abdullah, prayed the court to remand Iliasu in a correctional centre.

He said the offence could not be tried at the magistrates’ court hence the need to remand the suspect till the matter would be transferred to the appropriate court for hearing.

The magistrate, Mrs Jumoke Bamigboye, conceded to the prayers of the prosecutor and ordered the remand of the accused person and adjourned the matter till November 26, 2019, for mention.

Kaduna: Resident doctors issue 21-day strike notice

The Association of Resident Doctors has issued a 21-day strike notice to Kaduna State Government to implement agreements it reached with the association two years ago.

The President of the association, Dr. Emmanuel Joseph, said at a Press briefing on Thursday in Kaduna that the strike notice was issued on November 6.

He said the medical doctors would resume their suspended strike if, after the ultimatum, the government fails to implement the Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the association.

Joseph noted that since the agreement, the ARD has patiently and painstakingly continued to engage the government for the implementation of the agreed terms.

He, however, said the association was “rudely shocked by the content of the establishment circular of the 27th September, 2019, which is in breach to our MOU and indeed shortchanges doctors in salaries and allowances to the tune 26-49 per cent across grades and steps.”

According to the ARD president, the Kaduna state government has only “partially” attended to only two out of eight issues contained in the MOU after two years of the agreement.

“It is our earnest hope that the 21 days given will provide ample time for the government to rectify the anomalies in the new circular, to keep with the terms of our MOU and to meet up with other mutually terms of the MOU,” Joseph said.

Three arraigned for stealing goats, fish in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Wednesday, arraigned three persons, Mbam Oliver, 35; Mbam Igbogu, 40; and Chukwuemeka Nwovu, 22, for allegedly stealing goats and fish.

They were arraigned before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court on four counts bordering on stealing, burglary, felony and conspiracy.

Southern City News gathered that the accused persons committed the offences on November 3, 2019, at Igidiagbo Okpotumo in the Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.

The accused were alleged to have broken into the house of one Mr Godwin Nwogboga and stole his two goats.

It was also alleged that they forcefully entered into the house of one Mrs Cecilia Nwaji, whom they dispossessed of her fish.

The police prosecutor, Mr Eze Ndubuaku, told the court that the offences were punishable under sections 516A (a), 411 (a) and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 33 Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

The charges read in part, “That you Mbam Oliver, Mbam Igbogu and Chukwuemeka Nwovu, on November 3, 2019, at Igidiagbo Okpotumo, Abakaliki in the Abakaliki Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; burglary and stealing, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 516A (a) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

Appeal Court affirms Orji Kalu’s electoral victory

An Appeal Court in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Thursday affirmed Oji Uzor Kalu as the rightful winner of the February 23 election in Abia North Senatorial district.

The chairman of the panel, R.A Ada who read a unanimous decision, flayed the lower court (election tribunal) for ordering a rerun in some electoral wards in Abia North.

The jurist said that the premise on which the Elections Petitions Tribunal cancelled Orji’s victory was unknown to law.

He contended that the lower court granted the petitioner reliefs it did not ask, saying, “it was unacceptable in law.”

The justice said that the petitioner, Mao Ohuabunwa tendered his documents at the lower tribunal without calling witnesses to tie the documents to their case.

He said “The lower court erred by allowing the dumping of documents on the lower tribunal. In law, the petitioner must establish proof by bringing witnesses who will tie the documents to the substance of the case.”

One of the counsels to Kalu, Mr. Perfect Okorie told journalists that “The relief the petitioner Mao Ohuabunwa asked for was for the nullification of the election in Bende and Isiukwuato, LGAs but the lower tribunal embarked on its own expedition, granted strange reliefs and nullified elections in some polling units in Ohafia and Arochukwu.”

Teen who r.a.p.e.d 10 year-old girl as she walked home from school is jailed for seven years

A teenage boy who violently choked and r.a.p.e.d a 10-year-old girl as she walked home from school has been jailed for seven years.

The 17-year-old grabbed the schoolgirl as she walked along a street and dragged her to a nearby riverbank in Exmouth, Devon, on October 4, 2018.

He restrained the girl around the neck after snatching her and then r3ped her after she fell unconscious next to the water.

A passerby came to her aid after hearing her screaming for help.

The boy, who was 16 at the time of the attack and cannot be named for legal reasons, previously pleaded guilty to r3pe on the first day of a retrial at Bristol Crown Court on July 22.

He had earlier admitted choking and sexually assaulting the girl.

In March, a jury at the first trial acquitted the boy of attempting to murder the girl.

Jurors could not reach a decision on charges of rape and choking with intent to commit rape.

During the trial the jury heard how the boy grabbed the girl, who he did not know, as she walked home from school.

He restrained her around the neck and walked her to a nearby riverbank, where he raped her after she fell unconscious.

The boy claimed he checked the girl had a pulse and waited until she woke up before leaving the area.

A passerby heard the girl yelling from the stream and went to her aid, with police called a short time later.

During his evidence in the trial, the boy said he carried out the attack because of "extraordinary emotions".

He claimed he was angry, scared, depressed, sad and lonely at the time.

"I just wanted someone else, just anybody, to feel at least some of the way I was feeling," he told the jury.

Mrs Justice May jailed the boy, who admitted charges of rape, choking the girl with intent to commit sexual assault and sexual assault, for seven years and two months.

She also imposed an extended sentence of eight years on licence, which the boy will serve after his release from prison.

Mum sends six kids to school without letting them have their bath because she can't kill herself

We all know how busy parents can be but for one single mum she has come up with an unusual way to save time - letting her kids wash just three times a week.

Constance Hall said it's fine for her brood to go to school being "stinky" as "it won't kill them".

The mum-of-six, who is an Australian blogger, said she's had to cut a few corners because of her large family.

She also saves time on the washing-up by letting her kids "feast with the hands".

Revealing her short cuts on Mama Mia , she admitted her children don't wash every day.

She said: "They don’t have to bath or shower every day.

"They can quite often skip that part of the routine if it’s getting everyone down. I’m like, “Fine, stinky, go to school and gross everyone out”.

"I personally can’t be f**ked bathing everyone every night."

Justifying her decision to let her kids skip a daily wash she claims the American Academy of Dermatology said that youngsters aged between six and 11 only need to bath once or twice a week unless they are dirty, sweaty or have a skin condition.

"I know it makes them look more loveable when they are all clean and smell fresh, but really, skipping a night bath or morning shower a couple of times a week won’t kill them, " she added.

"None of my kids ate anything healthy under seven, they all eat well over seven and they are perfectly healthy."

Other parenting advice she dishes out includes having picnics, using coloured-coded buckets to "chuck" each child's clothes in, having a "check-out" time where you can relax and  blocking out her kid's noises by donning headphones.

She said: "I can’t respond to the 400 questions a day by six different kids: the fights over whose turn on the iPad it is, or who ruined what. I just can’t. So I block it out."
