Akwa Ibom suspends 71 pupils over attempt to burn school

A total of 71 pupils of the Government Secondary School, Etoi in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have been suspended for allegedly attempting to burn down the school.

It was gathered that some pupils alleged to be members of a cult group took the law into their hands and vandalised the school property.

The pupils also held the Principal hostage for several hours and attacked security personnel in the school.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof Nse Essien, announced the suspension when he led some management staff of the ministry and other stakeholders in the education sector to assess the situation, with a view to proffering a lasting solution.


Expressing his dismay at the attitude of the pupils, Essien said the school was the right of everyone and it should be protected.  He said the Akwa Ibom State Government would not fold its hands and allow hooligans take over the school.

The commissioner added that anybody found culpable would be severely punished.

Port Harcourt serial killer changes plea to not guilty

Suspected serial killer, Gracious David West, reversed his plea to not guilty in court Thursday after earlier confessing to strangling nine women in a string of ritual-style killings.

Mr. West, 26, was arrested in September on accusations he lured his victims to hotels in Port Harcourt before drugging and murdering them.

But in court on Thursday he reversed the admission.

“The defendant had earlier pleaded guilty to the 9 count charge of murder but has decided to change his plea today,” prosecutor Chidi Ekeh said.


The suspect’s lawyer Vincent Chukwu dismissed the earlier guilty plea as having “no legal effect”.

“The basis of this matter is the evidence. Let them (the prosecution) put their evidence before the court”, he told AFP.

A second defendant, accused of involvement in the killings, Nimi Thankgod, also pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.

Police arrested the suspects after the bodies of nine victims were found across the city and described West as a “notorious serial killer” and cult member.

Two kidnappers lynched in Lagos during operation

Two persons accused of being kidnappers were on Wednesday burnt to death in Ijora-Badia, a Lagos slum.

The victims, a man and a woman, were mobbed at separate intervals along Gaskiya Road.

An unnamed middle-aged man who was sighted with a garment containing a dead bird and iPhone was the first victim of the mob justice.

He was said to have been burnt alive around 2pm on Wednesday after some persons claimed to have heard him telling someone on the phone that he could not get any child.


Some residents claimed the man immediately threw his phone into the canal when he was accosted while others said his accusers collected the phone from him.

Without giving him room to defend himself, the mob stoned the man, put tyres around his neck and set him ablaze, a resident said.

Customs seizes N43m smuggled goods in Kaduna

The Zone B of Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Kaduna said it seized smuggled goods valued at over N43 million within one week in the zone.

The Comptroller of the command, Mustafa Sarkin-Kebbi said among the items seized was a truck intercepted along Kebbi-Kalgo road carrying foreign parboiled rice concealed with footwears in one hundred kilogram bags.

Sarkin-Kebbi, who made the disclosure at a press briefing in Kaduna, also said 25 vehicles were intercepted within the period, as well as 703 bags of smuggled foreign rice, 500 Jerry can of vegetable oil and 245 cartons of spaghetti.


Other where nine bails of second hand clothes, 40 Jerry Can of Kerosine and a truck of 30,000 PMS being discharged into Jerry Can across the boarders in Kebbi.

According to him, in spite of the Customs anti smuggling patrols across the zone and closing of Nigeria’s borders, smugglers are yet to desist from their illegal acts.

French Montana rushed to hospital after suffering ‘cardiac issues and severe nausea’

French Montana has reportedly been rushed to hospital after suffering ‘cardiac issues’ at his home in Los Angeles.

The rapper, 35, had been visited by police after they were called out to a possible robbery at his home in Calabasas, and the officers had to call him an ambulance while they were there.

TMZ reports that French Montana – real name Karim Kharbouch – was suffering ‘scary cardiac issues and intense nausea’.

When officers arrived at his house at around 1.30pm on Thursday, they discovered the robbery was a false alarm but noticed French acting out of character.


They said he ‘seemed out of it’ and was suffering severe stomach pains, nausea and an elevated heart rate, which needed checking out in hospital.

French was taken to a nearby hospital and TMZ reports that he is ‘awake and alert’ and receiving treatment including IV fluids, and is expected to be released today.

The cause of his issues is suspected to be contaminated food, after sources close to the rapper revealed he has been travelling around Europe and the Middle East in the past few weeks.

Pastor dies shortly after joining Osagie Ize-Iyamu to defect to APC in Edo state

A cleric identified as Pastor Aimola John has slumped and died shortly after joining Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Aimola was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital he was rushed to.

He had left the APC in 2015 alongside Pastor Ize-Iyamu and was among former PDP members that were returning home to the APC at the residence of Ize-Iyamu where he slumped.

He was said to have been a former chairmanship candidate for Owan East Local Governemnt Area.

Tributes have been poured in for him on the social media where he was hailed as a true loyal party man

Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has disclosed his intention to sponsor 100 students in Skyline University in Kano. Musa was unveiled as the University’s ambassador on Wednesday, after helping the Super Eagles to back-to-back victories over Benin and Lesotho in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games.

The Al Nassr forward has been involved in various charitable projects including the construction of a sports center in Kano, and he is now set to help youngsters chase their academic dreams with scholarships in the private institution.

Royals aren't 'checking in, texting or speaking' to Meghan Markle and Harry, claims source

No members of the Royal Family have been checking in or speaking to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry despite their emotional TV documentary, a source has claimed.

The couple gave a series of interviews during the programme, which focused on their trip to South Africa earlier this year, during which they said they were struggling with life in the spotlight.

Despite Meghan directly saying people weren't checking if she was okay, insiders have claimed    nothing has changed between the couple and the rest of the family.

An insider told People magazine said: "There hasn’t been this complete 180, nothing has changed.  They don’t speak, no one is checking in, no one is texting."


Multiple sources also told the magazine that the "chill" between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "runs deeper than many outsiders realise".

 In the documentary Harry appeared to confirm rumours of a rift between him and his older brother .

Floyd Mayweather has announced a sensational return to the ring next year with an Instagram post declaring: 'Coming out of retirement in 2020'.

Mayweather's post was then reposted on Twitter by UFC president Dana White, after speculation in recent days the two were planning to work together.

The announcement by Mayweather will also fuel speculation he could be about to make the move into UFC.

He has previously suggested he would one day move into mixed martial arts in some capacity, although he has also said that boxing will always reign supreme over other combat sports.

Mayweather and White were seen taking in a basketball game together on Wednesday night, sending the rumour mill into overdrive.

FG recovers N594.08bn through whistle-blower policy

Since the adoption of the whistle-blower policy in 2016, the Federal Government has so far recovered N594.09bn through the policy.

The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr Muhammed Dikwa, said this at a workshop in Abuja.

Dikwa, according to a statement issued on Thursday night by the ministry, said the whistle-blower policy had come to stay in Nigeria.

He added that Nigeria had joined other countries of the world to accept the policy as a global acceptable norm.


Dikwa noted that the Federal Government decided to introduce the policy to fight corruption and other financial crimes.

He also said that through the policy, the government was able to recover salaries from retired diplomats who were still being paid for almost two years to the tune of N192m.

Dikwa added that the policy had assisted in reducing corruption in the public sector.

The 39-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashian star has faced accusations of having an extra toe on previous occasions.

Cruel trolls have taken aim at her again after she appeared on the red carpet at the American Influencer Awards.

Wearing open shoes, the reality star's feet were on show for all to see and it wasn't long after the pics appeared online that social media was flooded by those that wanted to hit out at Kim over her perceived 'sixth toe'.

One person took to Twitter , writing: "U really have 6 toes on both feet LMAOO You’re not human at all."

Another cruelly added: “Why am I seeing 6 toes???”

The red sandals being worn by Kim seemed to accentuate the fact there could be another toe on her foot and this is not the first time that she has been called out over it.

Chris Brown has reportedly welcomed his second child with his ex-girlfriend Ammika Harris.

According to TMZ , the singer's former partner has given birth to a baby boy, their first child together.

Chris, 30, is already dad to daughter Royalty, five, who he shares with his ex Nia Guzman. It's thought that they've both subtly announced the birth on Instagram .

Chris shared a snap of himself wearing a hoodie with the word "Born" printed around the hood, and she posted on her Instagram story: "I was in love, when I first saw you."

Big Bang Theory & Glee actress Galloway dies at 78

Jane Galloway Heitz, who appeared in Glee and The Big Bang Theory, has died aged 78.

The actress was probably best known for playing Lillian Adler in Glee, who was William McKinley High School’s former glee club director, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Heitz managed to appear at both ends of the show’s six year run, appearing in the director’s cut of the pilot, in 2009, and the 2015 finale.

The character played by Galloway Heitz was important in the story of Glee and her photo was displayed in the club's choir room.

It hung above a plaque which read: "By its very definition, Glee is about opening yourself up to joy."

The death of Galloway Heitz was confirmed in US media after her obituary was published with her funeral set to be held on Saturday, November 30, in Illinois.

Housewife stabs husband to death in Ekiti

A 30-year-old housewife, Mrs Janet Jegede has been arrested by the Ekiti Police Command for allegedly stabbing her husband, Jegede, to death at their house on Alafiatayo, zone 1, Bamgboye area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

 the wife who was said to be a professional nurse stabbed her husband in the chest, after the duo, had a disagreement at their home on Sunday over an unknown issue.

A source who crave anonymity said she learnt that the woman allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest with a knife.


” We were in church last Sunday when somebody called that the old man has been stabbed to death by his wife. We have never heard of any issue between them.

“The woman has two kids for the man, the older one is around nine years old but she must be a second wife to the man that should be over sixty years old, who has a medical doctor as a son”.

Another source close to the area said the woman must have been suffering from a psychological problem.

“We attended the same church. She had sent the two kid to church on Sunday for a special programme before the incident occurred.

” When we heard about the incident. The people at her house who met the policemen there said she was holding a knife and telling everybody to come in and eat, which suggested that she is psychologically disturbed”.

A police source at Ologede Police station said psychiatric evaluation has been carried out on the suspect and she had since been transferred to the State headquarters of the police.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu who confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing to unravel circumstances surrounding the matter.

INEC fixes November 30 for Adeyemi, Melaye battle

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed November 30, 2019 for the supplementary election to conclude the Kogi West Senatorial District by-election.

INEC, in a statement by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, also said the Commission would be conducting the re-run election for the Ajaokuta Federal Constituency seat same day.

According to the statement, areas where the elections will be held will be uploaded on the Commission’s website, adding that collation for both exercises will be according to the usual INEC collation rules.

INEC, however, appealed to all political parties and stakeholders to cooperate with its personnel so that it could eventually deliver a conclusive exercise.

EFCC releases list of five captured ‘Yahoo Boys’

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office have arrested five suspected internet fraudsters.

The were arrested at Exrico Lodge, behind Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State. They were arrested on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in a sting operation.

The suspects are: Onuoha Goodness Chinedu, Harry Victor, Basil Obidiegwu Chukwunaeke, Amayhayi Chukwuli and Nwabueze Nnaemeka.

Their arrest followed series of intelligence linking them with alleged fraudulent activities ranging from love scam on numerous dating sites, obtaining money by false pretences and other fraud still being investigated.


Items recovered from them at the point of arrest are: an Apple Laptop; 7( seven) mobile phones of various brands, 2 Wi-Fi devices and 2 Power Banks.

According to the commission, the suspects would soon be charged to court.
