Man hires kidnappers, kills brother’s seven-year-old boy after N300,000 ransom

A 34-year-old man, Faruq Seidu, allegedly contracted three men to abduct his brother’s seven-year-old child, AbdulMalik Musa, and killed him after collecting a ransom of N300,000.

The deceased was reportedly kidnapped last Wednesday from his parents’ residence at Sabo Ilupeju, Abeokuta, Ogun State, by the syndicate in connivance with Seidu.

Seidu and the suspected kidnappers, Hassan Hussein, 30; Habib Nurah, 24; and Muhammed Bello, 42, were arrested by men of the state police command and paraded on Monday at the crime scene, beside the Ogun River, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, where the boy was allegedly strangled and thrown into the river.

The suspects took the police to the crime scene, where the remains of the boy were found floating on the water.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who paraded the suspects, described the incident as man’s inhumanity to a fellow man.

He said investigation revealed that Seidu contracted his three friends to execute the heinous act because of the refusal of his brother, the father of the deceased, Abdul-hammed Musa, to give him money to marry a third wife.

Oyeyemi explained that Seidu and his accomplices had initially demanded N5m ransom, but later reduced it to N300,000 due to the plea by the victim’s father.

According to the PPRO, the incident happened on December 11, 2019, when the parents reported at the Sabo Police Station in Ilupeju, Abeokuta, that the boy had been kidnapped.

Oyeyemi said AbdulMalik was killed because he recognised his uncle, Seidu, who was afraid of being exposed.

He stated, “This is a breakthrough in respect of an abduction and murder; what happened here is the height of man’s inhumanity to man.

“On December 11, 2019, a case of abduction was reported at the Sabo Division in Ilupeju, Abeokuta.

“About 24 hours later, the kidnappers made a request for N5m and we asked the family to play along with them and later they agreed to take N300,000 and after payment, they still killed the boy and threw his corpse in the river.

“I want to appeal to members of the public to trust nobody, because if a brother could do this to his brother, then who can be trusted?

“But, I want to sound a serious warning to criminals in the state and I will be borrowing from the words of the governor, who he said hell fire would be more conducive for criminals than Ogun State.”

The prime suspect, Seidu, claimed to be innocent of the crime.

“I never asked anyone to kidnap my brother’s son, I only saw this one (pointing to another suspect) with the boy on a motorcycle, but I never discussed anything with them; I only greeted them and left,” he stated.

Seidu’s regular motorcyclist, Hussein, however, faulted him by claiming that he contracted them to abduct the boy before he personally killed him on the grounds that he recognised him.

Hussein said while pointing at Seidu, “He is a brother to Alhaji (the deceased boy’s father). He said he wanted to marry a new wife and Alhaji did not want to give him money; so, he asked us to kidnap the boy.

“After Alhaji gave us the ransom, Seidu came and said he was going to kill his nephew, because the boy recognised him and I asked him why, but he never answered me.

“When Seidu collected the ransom, he handed it over to me after he had removed N5,500.

“He wants to marry a new wife after he lost his first wife and divorced the second.

“The boy knew Seidu very well; whenever he was in the boy’s house, AbdulMalik would run to greet him. He gave him biscuit before he took him away on the day of the kidnap.

“He told me that he would kill the boy and he threw his corpse into the river from the bridge.”

When asked where he was when the boy was killed, Hussein claimed that he did not follow Seidu, adding that he was only informed by the boy’s uncle after he had killed him.

Drama at a funeral as families of two step-brothers fight over land

A step-brothers row over land in Ngorika, Nyandarua County, Kenya escalated on Monday leading to a dramatic burial, all to beat a court order barring the funeral.

Samuel Munyua had been granted a court order to stop the burial of his step-brother, Elijah Kogi, on the land they had been fighting over for years.

Munyua told the court that his brother’s family were illegal settlers on the expansive land and that he is the sole trustee.

But Kogi’s family hurriedly buried him before Munyua could serve them with a court order he had obtained in a local court barring the burial until the case was heard and determined.

Amid bad roads which hampered their movement, Kogi’s family carried his casket 4km to the burial site and interred his remains.

According to the deceased’s brother, Laban Mwangi, the family was once united but their troubles erupted after their father died.

Their father had had two wives and soon after his death, the two households started squabbling over his land.

Though the court issued a stay order barring their eviction, Mwangi accused their step brother of frustrating their efforts to inherit their father’s land.

Kogi’s wife, Hannah Njeri, said long before her husband died they had been attacked several times hence the reason they hurriedly buried him. The deceased’s uncle, Eliud Kimani, said the family can end their wrangles if they soften their stance and allow for mediation.

Meghan Markle named UK's most unfairly treated person of 2019

According to a number of British people, Meghan Markle is the most unfairly treated person of 2019, with over half of Brits agreeing she's had a particularly bad year.

The ,Duchess of Sussex was followed closely in the top five, by Ant McPartlin, The Queen, Greta Thunberg and Alex Hollywood.

More than 2,000 people were surveyed to get these results, with 50 percent voting for Meghan to take the top spot.

The 37-year-old has been bombarded with criticism since her royal wedding to Prince Harry back in 2018, being trolled for everything from the colour of her nail varnish to the way she held baby Archie.

Meghan herself has admitted how hard life has been for her since joining the royal family in an emotional interview with ITV in South Africa.

Speaking with Tom Bradby for a documentary called Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the Duchess held back tears as she admitted she's "not OK" and had found the past year "really challenging".

The Queen also made the top three, being acknowledged for the strife she's had to deal with this year, from the Prince Andrew scandal to Boris Johnson asking her to suspend parliament.

Similarly 16-year-old Greta Thunberg has received a lot of backlash (including from US President Donald Trump ) on her efforts to protect the planet and drive awareness around climate change.

A spokesperson for  PlayOJO said: "We’re keen to re-address the 2019 balance and not only acknowledge Meghan Markle's tumultuous year, but offer her some respite.

"Whatever you think of her, the majority of us Brits clearly agree on one thing - she’s had a pretty tough year.

"Ever since her relationship with Prince Harry became public, she has become the victim of severe and often unjustified criticism. It’s no surprise the nation thinks she’s been the most unfairly treated person of 2019”

Newborn baby dies after doctors fail to catch him when mum pushed

A newborn died after doctors failed to catch him when his mum pushed him out. Grieving father Claudio Mondragon said he had witnessed the tragedy as his wife Stefania gave birth to their son Valentino.

An investigation was underway today into the incident at a hospital in the Argentinian city of Gualeguaychu, a three hour drive north of the capital Buenos Aires near to where the couple live.

The baby boy was transferred to a specialist hospital in the nearby city of Parana, but he was pronounced dead before arrival.

Claudio, 29, told local paper El Dia: “My wife was in labour and was just about to have the baby and they asked her to push and she pushed so he would come out.

“He came out really fast and no-one grabbed him and he fell to the floor.

"The midwife didn’t have time to catch him and the obstetrician didn’t react.

“The only thing they did was lift him up from the floor and put him in an incubator and take him to another hospital.”

The freak accident happened last Thursday afternoon in a clinic called Sanatorio Pronto in Gualeguaychu.

The baby boy died as he was being taken to San Roque Hospital in Parana.

The investigation, led by a local state prosecutor, will determine if his death is the result of medical negligence and whether anyone should face criminal charges.

Valentino, whose 26-year-old mum Stefania was 37 weeks pregnant when she gave birth, has already been buried by his grief-stricken parents.

A preliminary autopsy is said to have concluded the baby boy died from a head injury consistent with a fall.

Pakistan’s ex-president Musharraf sentenced to death

A Pakistani special court hearing the high treason case against former president General Pervez Musharraf has handed the former ruler a death sentence.

A three-member bench of the special court headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad announced the decision, in a split judgment.

The court, in its short order said that it had analysed complaints, records, arguments and facts in the case for three months. The court added it had found Musharraf, now living in Dubai, guilty of high treason according to Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

It was a majority verdict, with three of the two judges giving the decision against Musharraf.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had filed the treason case against Musharraf over his imposition of extra-constitutional emergency in November 2007.

The former army chief was indicted in the case in March 2014 after he appeared before the court and rejected all charges.

On March 18, 2016, the former president left Pakistan for Dubai for medical treatment after his name was removed from the exit control list on the orders of the Supreme Court.

A few months later, the special court had declared him a proclaimed offender and ordered the confiscation of his property owing to his continuous inability to appear.

Later, his passport and identity card were also cancelled on orders of the apex court.

Newborn baby dumped outside hospital with umbilical cord still attached

A heartbreaking photo shows a newborn baby dumped outside a hospital in a cardboard box with its umbilical cord still attached.

Doctors believe the tiny infant was just a few hours old when he was dumped.

Shocked security guards heard the baby's distressed cries at 2am in the morning.

The baby - who has been given the name Diego Antonio by hospital staff - was left at the front door of a hospital in the municipality of San Francisco Gotera in the Morazan Department in northeastern El Salvador, Central America, local media reports.

Diego was abandoned inside a cardboard box wrapped in a couple of blankets at the entrance to the hospital.

Reports said that doctors who checked him believe he had been born between four and five hours before he was found.

Thankfully, Diego is in a good condition, weighing in at between seven and eight lbs.

Hospital staff called him Diego as they needed a named to register him with at the hospital.

Diego will now be taken to an orphanage as his mum has not been found.

The El Salvador Institute for the Development of Children and Teenagers are beginning adoption procedures in the hope of finding Diego a permanent family.

Boy, 12, drives pickup to flee Australia bushfire

Police have rescued a 12-year-old boy who fled a raging bushfire in Western Australia by driving his brother's pickup to safety with their dog.

Luke Sturrock was alone at home when a fast-moving blaze threatened the town of Mogumber, north of Perth, on Sunday.

His dad, Ivan Sturrock, and older brother were out fighting the fire as it ripped through the area.

They told him to flee to an orange tree about 4km (2.4 miles) away if the fire got too close to their home.

When the fire closed in, the boy grabbed his dog and escaped in his brother's Ford Ranger.

About an hour later, firefighters who were battling the blaze nearby came across the boy behind the wheel of the vehicle and pulled him over.

"Typical farm boy, he was pretty clever, I think the problem was he just didn't quite know where to go and it was hard to see with all the smoke," Craig Spencer, of the Bindoon Bushfire Brigade, told ABC Radio Perth.

"So I think he probably panicked a bit and when we found him he was pulled up on the side of the road."

The fire crew took him to safety and left him with police, who reunited him with his father.

Egypt building new capital to start functioning in 2020

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said the government headquarters would be relocated to the New Administrative Capital in 2020 and that it would use modern systems to reduce human error.

“We made sure that all the relevant AI technologies and applications are incorporated in the process of digitising all the Egyptian government’s services,” al-Sisi said during a discussion entitled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Humans: Who is in control?”.

According to report by Xinhua/NAN, the discussion was part of the 3rd edition of the World Youth Forum which opened on Saturday in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Egypt is currently building a new administrative capital city covering an area of 714 square km, some 45 km east of the capital Cairo.

The city will be a new home to most government buildings including 29 ministries, the cabinet and the parliament, as well as 20 residential neighbourhoods that can accommodate 6.5 million people, luxurious hotels, malls, parks and many other venues.

“The use of AI provides a great opportunity to overcome human error and save time,” al-Sisi said.

He added that it represents a great opportunity to reduce corruption as well.

“I promise Egyptians, African countries, and the countries that want to join us, that we will open a new generation of universities during the next school year with all the sciences you are talking about today,” he noted.

Fashola opens up on being swindled by internet scammer

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has clarified recent Social Media reports that he was defrauded of the sum of N3.1 million by a Yahoo Boy who is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Minister, who said he neither knew nor transacted any business with the suspect that involved or would have led to his being swindled, explained that the amount being mentioned was the worth of Air Miles which the suspect derived from fraudulently hacking into his internet account and creating a false identity with which he, among other benefits, bought first class tickets to various parts of the world.

“Having persistently hacked into the accounts for over a period of six years, the suspect was tracked by the Minister until enough evidence was gathered which was then passed on to the security agencies,” Fashola said in a statement issued by his spokesman, Hakeem Bello.

Malik Wakili was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for pulling an internet scam against Fashola.

The middle aged man, who allegedly impersonated Fashola to steal N3,106,216 was arraigned before a Federal high court in Lagos, south west Nigeria.

Wakili was alleged to have conspired with one Abdullahi Umar, who is at large, “to fraudulently impersonate Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, with intent to gain monetary advantage for themselves .”

He was alleged to have converted the total sum of N3,106,216, being the value of the Air-miles Skywards Account Num

The Kardashian-Jenners hilariously impersonate each other

Keeping Up With the Kardashians went out with a bang, closing out their 17th season with a fun finale that saw the family dress up as one another for a role-switching costume dinner party.

In a move that felt like when a sitcom decides to do a musical episode or tell a story in reverse order -- just to add some fresh life to a series -- KUWTK went a hilarious direction that gave fans a fun, cathartic send-off for this dramatic season.

Amid the family's on-going feud between Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, they all decided to come together for a family trip to Wyoming, where Kris Jenner had a bunch of family bonding and team-building exercises to smooth things over.

While it didn't go great, for the most part -- Kourtney still clashed with her sisters over the pressures of being on the show, and then threatened to take her kids and leave the trip early -- the final dinner saw the family make one last-ditch therapeutic attempt at finding harmony.

"My mom had this crazy idea for one last final team building activity," Kourtney explained. "She thought it'd be really funny just to each come to dinner tonight dressed as a different family member."

Like extreme role-playing in a mediation meeting, each of the Kardashian-Jenner family members came with some shocking spot-on impressions of one another -- complete in full costume -- for one of the funniest scenes of the season.

Kris Jenner came to the table decked out in a blonde wig to play her daughter, Khloe, while Khloe herself donned a short black wig and bold eye shadow to essentially become her momager.

Meanwhile, Kourtney and Kim seemed to try and work out some of their issues by swapping places as well.

Kourtney, to get into character as Kim, rocked a revealing black number and giant sunglasses, before poking fun of what she sees as the KKW Beauty mogul's arrogance about the family's fame.

"I pretty much started this entire family," Kourtney, as Kim, explained with deadpan precision. "No one would be anywhere or anything without me."

Kim was quick to get back at Kourtney, mocking her sister's propensity for bringing up that she's a mother of three and wanting to spend time with her kids.

"I'm late to dinner because I'm a mom and I can be late doing mom things," Kim, as Kourntey, said, later joking that she is "using the mom card every second," and therefore doesn't have to be as involved with filming.

Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner rocked a long pink wig to hilariously mock her sister, Kylie, and also gives some amazing spot-on impressions of Kylie's famous make-up tutorials.

In fact, Kourtney's 7-year-old daughter, Penelope, also did her best Kylie impression, donning blue lipstick and a blue wig, and she delivered one of the best jokes of the whole dinner, explaining, "I can buy Kim and Kourtney because I have that much money."

While the impressions walked a fine line between good-natured ribbing and meanness, Kourtney seemed to have a good time and was reminded of why she had a lot of good memories attached to the show in the first place.

Hallmark finally apologises for pulling same-sex ads

The chief executive of Hallmark Cards has apologised for its decision to withdraw television advertisements featuring same-sex couples.

The company's cable network pulled the ads for wedding registry and planning site Zola under pressure from the conservative group One Million Moms.

The decision drew criticism on social media and calls for a boycott.

Hallmark said it would reinstate the adverts and attempt to re-establish its partnership with Zola.

"We are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused," Hallmark's president and chief executive Mike Perry said.

In a statement posted to its website, Hallmark said it would "be working with [advocacy group] Glaad to better represent the LGBTQ community across our portfolio of brands."

The original decision to withdraw the adverts drew criticism from a number of high-profile gay figures, including Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Protests erupt across India over citizenship law

Protests over a controversial new law on migrants are raging across several Indian cities, prompting police to clash with demonstrators.

The new law entitles non-Muslim migrants from three Muslim-majority countries to citizenship if they are facing religious persecution.

Police used tear gas and detained protesters in the capital Delhi as buses were torched and roads blocked.

Protests have raged across northern and eastern India since the law was passed.

Internet services have been shut down in several cities where protests are taking place. Universities across the country have resumed demonstrations on Monday.

A massive demonstration against the law has also begun in West Bengal state, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her ruling Trinamool Congress party.

37 year-old man kills self, leaves behind a 6-page suicide note

Economic hardship, deteriorating health, neglect by his family and friends and spending days on an empty stomach are some of the reasons 37-year-old Kelvin Majiwa, a Mombasa resident, Kenya gave for committing suicide.

Majiwa, a bachelor, fatally hanged himself in his rented house at Zamzam area in Likoni on Friday, December 13. On a table in his room, he placed a six-page suicide note justifying his death ideation.

The deceased, who had a chronic disease, accused his brother, sisters and most of his friends of “abandoning him in his hour of need”.

He said — in the letter written in an A4 notebook– that since he got sick, he never had any close family member or crony to turn to while seeking food and money for treatment.

Majiwa said: “My brother and sisters have a lot of money to spend for the holidays, yet I am here languishing under disease and malnutrition”.

The deceased vowed to haunt his siblings, saying “they will never know peace for neglecting me”.

In the note, Majiwa claimed that his brother sold their family land in Migori, and he [brother] never allocated even a single coin for his treatment.

“[My friend] Hamisi can tell you that my family is uncooperative. They have never supported me since I got sick. When I was employed, and had money, I spent at least Ksh60, 000 on my brother’s house rent. After losing the job, and becoming ill, he refused to assist me. I remember he even declined to help me with Ksh500 for a hemoglobin test,” lamented Majiwa in the note.

According to the deceased, his brother blatantly refused to come to his rescue despite having a well-paying job.

In his letter, Majiwa listed some of his friends, who helped him while he was ailing.

One of Majiwa’s friends, George Oduor, told K24 Digital that the 37-year-old “died a bitter man”.

“During his days of good health, Majiwa was extremely generous and kind,” said Oduor.

“He lost hope in life the moment he lost his job, and when his subsequent attempts to seek financial help from his family bore no fruit,” added Oduor.

In his suicide note, Majiwa also listed the owner of a local restaurant as some of the people who came to his aid in his hour of need.

“I thank him for giving me food at no cost when he learnt of my situation,” said Majiwa.

Likoni Sub-County police commander, Jane Munywoki, said Majiwa’s body was taken to Coast Provincial General Hospital morgue.
