Five stabbed at home of New York rabbi

At least five people have been stabbed at the house of a rabbi in New York state, police say.

The house in Monsey, north of New York City, was hosting a religious celebration when the attacker burst in, according to the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC).

The suspect fled but was later taken into custody, police said. The motive was not immediately clear.

One of the victims was stabbed at least six times, OJPAC said in a tweet.

The attack came a day after New York city police said officers were stepping up patrols in heavily Jewish districts following a spate of anti-Semitic threats and attacks.

Due to re-occurrence of violence, Ogun state police command bans street carnivals

The Ogun State police command on Saturday placed an indefinite embargo on any form of street carnival or public procession across the state following recent series of violence and wanton destruction of valuable properties in the state which were linked to such carnivals.

The embargo followed a review of the security situation in the state by the Police Commissioner, CP, Kenneth Ebrimson, and his team, which indicated that the street carnivals have become avenues for some unscrupulous elements and cultists to unleash terror on members of the public.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a release stated that as an organisation saddled with constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and properties, the command could not fold its arms while hoodlums tried to make life difficult for law abiding citizens of the state.

Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), added that the command has hereby banned all forms of street carnival, warning that anybody that organises carnival, rally, procession or blocks any public road anywhere in the state despite the warning, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Drunk driving: Oyo may begin breath test for drivers

Oyo State government said it will soon begin breath test to ascertain if drivers are drunk while driving or not.

The move, according to government, is to reduce the rate of accidents caused by drunk driving among drivers which usually lead to loss of lives, properties and huge damage to government facilities and infrastructures.

Government is also warning club owners across the state to create convenient parking spaces for their customers or encourage them to desist from indiscriminate parking that is leading to unnecessary traffic gridlock across the state.

The government made the disclosures through the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Dr. Akin Fagbemi.

Revocation of land: Saraki's long note to Governor Abdulrasaq warning he crossed the line

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Saturday said that the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has crossed the line of decency with his recent efforts to erase the legacies of his (Saraki’s) late father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

Saraki, in a statement he personally signed, said that the war of attrition waged against the legacy of his father and everything that belongs to the late politician simply portrayed the Governor as a man who lacks the sense of history and set out only to fight the Saraki family but not to serve the interest of Kwarans.

Saraki’s statement reads in part: “Yesterday night, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq finally showed his true colour when he announced his decision to revoke the ownership of a property rightfully held by my late father, Dr. Olusola Abubakar Saraki on Plots 1, 3 and 5 Ilofa Road, GRA, Ilorin popularly known as Ile Arugbo, (Old People’s home) which since the Second Republic, has always been used to host the weekly gathering of a multitude of aged people in the society who are provided food, money and health services, as part of the social welfare programme sponsored by the late politician. The tradition has since been maintained.

“Before now, this same Governor had invited all the members of the State House of Assembly and directed them to commence the process of amending the law to change the name of the State University which the last administration renamed after my late father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

“He then followed up on this act of vengeance by initiating a bill to rename the University and expunge the name of the late Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

“Now, he has decided to also revoke the titles of the landed property which belongs to the late politician.

“Maybe, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq thinks his will be the last administration in Kwara State but definitely, this is self delusion.

“The property had been rightfully allocated to my late father under the name of one of his companies, Asa Investment Limited, since the 1980s and contrary to the claim of the Governor, the land was properly allocated and a Right of Occupancy title issued on it.

“It should be noted that the excuse given by Abdulrazaq in his revocation order holds no water since it is clear that this is the height of his vengeance against my father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki and I.

“Till today, many Kwarans have been wondering what problem the Governor has with the late Oloye Abubakar Olusola Saraki or what the late politician did to offend him.

“It is surprising that of all vacant plots of land in strategic places across Ilorin township, the one that Abdulrahman found useful for his vengeful plan is the one owned by late Dr. Saraki.

“It is beyond comprehension why a Governor would set as his main agenda the objective of undermining and waging a war of attrition against a man who is no longer around.

“This action is clearly a manifestation of vengeance and it shows that this Governor is not out to serve any public purpose or pursue any development agenda.

“In his narrow-mindedness, he believes his victory at the polls is an empowerment, entitlement and enablement to settle scores, provoke and pursue inter-family rivalry.

“Those who voted for the party in power in Kwara State and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq obviously did not vote for the man to enable him wage war against Dr. Olusola Saraki and his legacies. They expected development and fulfillment of promises.

“If the Governor believes people are not taking stock of his misguided and deceptive actions and that because he is in power, he could do whatever he likes, he must be a joker.

“Also, this war against the Sarakis will not successfully veil his unpreparedness for governance and divert people’s attention from the glaring lack of visionary, clear-cut plan to deliver on his empty promises to the people. He definitely cannot get away with all the atrocities he has been committing.

“Since the outcome of the elections in March, despite the fact that there are clear grounds to challenge the results in court, I have decided to demonstrate maturity, statemanship and sportsmanship. I have chosen not to make comment on the policies, programmes and actions of the administration in Kwara State or that of its head.

“Also, I deliberately stayed away from the State to avoid creating any distraction for the administration. My decision is borne out of a genuine restraint to enable the administration settle down and fulfill its numerous promises to the people of our state.

“However, seven months down the line, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has shown that its cardinal Programme is to wage war against my late father and I.

“He has demonstrated that his only competence and astuteness is in the area of viciously assailing the late Oloye Saraki and I. Definitely, he is a man with no sense of history. Enough is enough. Now, he has crossed the line.

“Perhaps, I should let it be known that if Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq thinks he is taking all these actions to get at me, he is only deceiving himself. There is no basis for competition between us.

“Our paths cannot cross because the status that he is struggling to attain, Almighty Allah has given it to me many years before now. I became Governor 16 years before him and served out my constitutional limit of eight years. Within the period, I was Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum.

“I have moved on to serve in the federal legislature and by the grace of God, I headed the National Assembly as the number three man in the country.

“No matter, how well he tried to rewrite history, it is on record that I left Kwara State a lot better than I met it. In fact, the University that he is struggling to rename was established by my administration as just one out of many legacies we left behind.

“This Governor needs a lot more efforts, years, Intelligence and resources to attain the level Allah has taken me, not to talk of my late father, Dr. Olusola Abubakar Saraki, the Senate Leader in the Second Republic.

“As Governor, I used the position to serve the people and during the period I did not dishonour his own father or anybody’s father for that matter.

“Just as I did after the election, my advise to Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq that he should devote his time and energy to providing good governance and genuine development of the state.

“It is well known to the Governor that I fear nobody, except Almighty Allah, the ultimate owner of all powers. With all his subterranean and open moves against my family, person and property, I remain unmoved. However, his open antagonism against my late father and his legacies is unwarranted and will not be tolerated. He has definitely gone beyond bounds as he cannot be allowed to ride roughshod on the deceased. In this war against my late father, he will not win.

“This Governor has shown that he is not a man who wants peace, co-operation and development. He believes that a constant attack on my family and I is all that he needs to win the hearts of Kwara people. The need to provide good governance is secondary to him.

“However, it should be made clear to Abdulrazaq and his administration that their attack on my late father cannot erase the legacies of Oloye. No evil design, negative plot or propaganda can successfully rewrite the history of Kwara State.

“This plot against my late father will not stand. And I will like to make it clear that we will contest this petty, malicious, dubious and bias action of a parochial, vicious and vindictive administration through all legal means.

“We are sure this is not an action taken in public interest. Rather, it is done in pursuit of a selfish and devious objective”, Saraki said.

How 8 year-old traumatised maid was rescued

Her name is Peace Goewam. But her living condition is a sharp contrast of her name. First, she was taken away from her parents’ home in Plateau State, at age six, without any inkling of where she was going to or what she was going to meet there.

It also still remains uncertain whether she was abducted . But there are clues that she is a victim of human trafficking and child labour.

Her offence? Her guardian, Mrs Amaka Ortolehi, from Ngor-Okpala, Imo State, accused her of making her toddler to cry.

The video clip further showed another woman, probably a neighbour, reprimanding the woman for being rash and at the same time begged on her maid’s behalf. But she paid less attention to the intruder.

Rather, she ordered the frightened girl to come into the car. And like an obedient servant, she quietly walked into the car, with her hands on her head, unsure of the magnitude of battery she would receive from her guardian.

Crime Guard gathered that when the video clip reached the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Police Command , CP Ahmad AbdurRahman, he ordered his technical officers, including the Anti-Terrorism, Anti Cultism and Anti Kidnapping units to comb the nooks and crannies of the state for the woman and the child.

Crime Guard learned that the Anti Cultism unit traced the woman’s house but did not meet her at home.

Rather, her landlord (names withheld) told the policemen that she had travelled to her home town. Determined to rescue the child from her guardian’s grips, the policemen were said to have located that latter’s home town and effected her arrest and that of her husband, Nkemakolam Ortoleh

A visibly angry CP AbdurRahman was said to have met with the parties. From her frail and malnourished looks, coupled with the marks of violence on parts of her body, it was obvious that eight-year-old Peace was traumatised.

Fear, was written all over her face as she stood side-by-side her guardian.

She was even too scared to speak, when asked to explain what transpired in the video. Describing the scenario in the video clip that went viral as an eye sore, the command boss said, “We also arrested Mr. Jonathan Goewan, the uncle to the victim, who out of greed brought her to Enugu from Jos and probably sold her to this wicked family.

“Irrationally, she held her own daughter who she had affection for but was thrusting this very girl on the ground as if she was killing a fowl.

“ We protected and rescued the girl and she is going be to handed over to a government agency that will take care of her till we trace her parents.

They will come down and tell us why they divorced this girl from them. As for the uncle, he has no satisfactory answer, so we are suspecting fowl play.

This is a typical example of Child Abuse, child labour, torture and man’s inhumanity to man”. The CP assured that if those arrested were found to be into human trafficking at the end of investigation, they would face the consequences legally.

He therefore, warned those into child labour to return such children back to their parents or have the law to contend with.

However, the woman in the eye of the storm, Mrs. Ortelehi, blamed the devil for her actions. At a point, she knelt down, begging to be forgiven.

She said “I really don’t know what came over me on that day. I have never acted that way since she started living with me two years ago. Please forgive me, I am a peace loving person. You can go and ask from my neighbours or her school if I beat her. Anger put me into this”.

Peruvian Man admits to killing his girlfriend and three of her four children, including his 3-week-old son and 2-year old daughter

A man has confessed to the brutal murder of his girlfriend and her three children, two of whom were his, at the weekend in Peru.

Juan César Augusto Huaripata, 28, and Jéssica Tejeda, 34, got into an argument when he arrived to the home at 3am last Sunday.

Tensions escalated inside the home in El Agustino, a town in the South American country's capital of Lima, before Huaripata stabbed Tejeda 80 times with a large kitchen knife.

He then plunged the sharp weapon into his girlfriend's 15-year-old son, Cristian Rivadeneyra, when he tried to save his mother.

The killer set the apartment on fire and then abandoned it, causing the death of the couple's premature three-week-old son, Angel Cesar Huaripata, and two-year-old daughter, Mía Rivadeneyra Tejeda.

Mía died at a local hospital Monday due to smoke inhalation.

Jéssica's nine-year-old son, Fabel Rivadeneyra, was stabbed in the head and arms. Peruvian news outlets reported that he faked his death and ran out of the home to seek help from a neighbor.

Victoria Espinoza, who was a close friend of Jéssica, told DailyMail.com that Juan César Augusto had contacted attorney in order to secure full custody of Mía even though he had abandoned his daughter and girlfriend after she was born.

Jéssica, Angel César, and Cristian were laid to rest the morning of Christmas Eve.

Mía's burial was scheduled for Wednesday, Christmas Day.

Prosecutors on Wednesday afternoon announced that Juan César Augusto would be held without bail for 18 months. He is being charged with aggravated murder, assassination, and femicide.

Juan César Augusto was arrested by the police after he tried to escape the scene, and offered
authorities a detailed explanation of why he killed the mother of his two children.

'She told me that I was no longer going to see my son. She went into the room. Since she did not come out, I entered and I see that she had my son in the air. She said, "you know, I want to leave with my son, kill me or take I am taking your daughter away, kill me,"' Juan César Augusto said, according to the police report.

'And she threw my baby to the bed, my son didn't cry. I told her to please leave my son. I felt helpless, I didn't think about anything but my son.'

He then explained how he attacked Jéssica although he was not aware of what he was doing.

'I started to drive the knife into her, I was not aware of what I was doing, I was clouded. She told me to forgive her, that she didn't want me to hurt my son, I don't know what happened to me, she gave me my five minutes of madness,' Juan César Augusto said.

'Her son Cris got up, he told me what I had done, he wanted to take my knife, I also attacked him. Her other son Dustin [Fabel] showed up, I also attacked him. Then I see there was a fire. I left the room. The police found me on my way [out] with the knife in my hand. I felt respect for her because she was the mother of my children, but I never loved her, I feel sorry for what happened, I know that I hurt a family.'

Screams and cries for help were heard from the apartment. In a video filmed by a neighbor and picked up by news outlets, Jéssica is heard shouting, 'enough already,' before she was fatally stabbed.

Pogba launches personal anti-racism protest

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has decided to make a personal protest against racism following the ongoing “ignorance” demonstrated at football stadiums throughout Europe.

The 26-year-old France star came off the bench during United’s a 4-1 win win away to Newcastle on Thursday, when he wore black and white wristbands during the warm-up.

‘No to racism’ and ‘We are one’ read the wristbands that Pogba asked his team-mates to join him in wearing before the match, with the World Cup winner then presenting his to a young fan in the crowd.

Pogba later posted an image of that moment on Instagram with a Martin Luther King quote – “Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that” – and the hashtag #NoToRacismWeAllOne.

“It was my idea to do that,” Pogba said of the wristbands, in an interview with Britain’s Press Association news agency.

“I mean, I’ve been thinking about doing this but I don’t want to go through the UEFA or the FIFA. I (have) done it myself.

“I think we have the chance to have this power to show things in football, on TV.

“People see it so I think that will make people understand some things.

“I think it’s ignorance. Ignorance and stuff like that, and just to show people that you are all one. We are all one.”

Pogba was subjected to racism on social media at the start of the season and he also mentioned Antonio Rudiger after the Chelsea defender was subjected to alleged racist abuse at Tottenham last weekend.

“I mean, a lot of players in a lot of leagues — not only in Premier League, in Italy, Spain, everywhere — and we keep hearing this (racism),” said Pogba.

“We are just football players, we want to enjoy that. The fans needs to enjoy coming and seeing some nice football and that’s it.

Canadian restaurant turns down Meghan and Harry

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can’t have everything, it seems.

They managed to avoid Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham for a Canadian retreat. But when their security team reached out to reserve a table at a fancy waterfront eatery, they were turned down.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent baby Archie’s first Christmas with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, on Vancouver Island. They’ve been seen hiking in Horth Hill Regional Park and jogging in neighboring North Saanich, according to reports.

Bev Koffel, who owns Deep Cove Chalet, said she met their security team last week. But her husband, chef Pierre Koffel, turned down their reservation due to the tight security involved.

She hopes they’ll call again when she’s by the phone, adding: “Let them have their peace and quiet. For us to be so lucky to have them in the area, how lucky is that? I wish them all the privacy they can possibly get. They deserve it.”

She told the Vancouver Sun: “Horth Hill’s become a very popular place now. And they jog around, so they’ve been seen. It’s kind of exciting. I hope everything goes fine for them. They’re breaking away from tradition and I just wish them all the best.”

Archeologists discover ancient 1,000-year-old Mayan palace in Mexico

Archeologists have discovered a large palace likely used by the Mayan elite more than 1,000 years ago in the ancient city of Kuluba, near the modern day tourist hot spot of Cancun in eastern Mexico, Mexican anthropology officials said.

The remains of the six-meter high building, 55 meters (180 feet) long and 15 meters wide, suggest the palace was inhabited for two long periods between 600-1050 A.D., the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) said in a statement.

The Mayan civilization reached its peak between 250 and 900 A.D., when it ruled large swaths of what is now southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras.

The palace was discovered in the east of the Kuluba archaeological zone, a key pre-Hispanic site in Mexico's Yucatan state.

"This work is the beginning, we've barely began uncovering one of the most voluminous structures on the site," archeologist Alfredo Barrera said in a video shared by INAH.

Kuluba had important ties with the Maya cities of Ek' Balam and more crucially, Chichen Itza, falling under its influence and becoming part of its network of trade and territory.

Along with the palace, Mexican experts are exploring four other structures in the area known as "Group C" in Kuluba's central square, including an altar, remnants of two residential buildings and a round structure believed to be an oven.

Conservationists are exploring reforesting parts of Kuluba to protect the historical site from wind and sun damage, INAH said.

The site should be opened to the public in the medium term, the institute added.

After years of being cheated on, man hands wife over to her lover, and, in return, takes the lover’s spouse

Residents of Lelechonik Village in Mauche Ward in Njoro Constituency, Nakuru County, Kenya are reeling from shock after two youthful couples swapped spouses in a move said to be unprecedented in the area.

Patrick Ng’etich, 31, told K24 Digital that his wife, Mercy Ng’etich, 22, had been secretly seeing their 27-year-old neighbour, Justine Koech, since 2013.

Patrick said he had warned Mercy against the illicit affair, but his concerns fell on deaf ears.

In 2018, Koech was summoned by local elders, and after the case was heard, he was asked to commit in writing that he would stop entertaining Patrick’s wife. Koech accepted the verdict.

However, Koech and Mercy failed to end their illicit relationship.

In November 2019, Patrick filed a report at Tarakwa Police Station, in which he complained that Koech was wrecking his marriage.

“Police officers at Tarakwa asked my wife if she was ready to leave me for Koech, and she answered in the affirmative. The law enforcement officers also asked me if I was ready to let go of Mercy, and, I said ‘yes’, given I had had enough of her infidelity,” Patrick told K24 Digital.

Koech’s 23-year-old wife, Sheila Koech, on the other hand, was asked if she would accept Patrick as her new spouse, and she said “yes”.

Sheila moved in to Patrick’s house with her two children from her previous marriage with Koech which lasted 12 years. Their kids are aged 5 and 7.

Mercy, who is originally Patrick’s spouse, moved in to Koech’s house with her four children from her former marriage. The kids are aged between 2 and 9.

Patrick’s new wife, Sheila, claims that Koech used to threaten and mistreat her every time she would inquire why he was having an illicit affair with Mercy, who was a married woman.

Patrick says he is now at peace “after my adulterous wife left me”.

“The wife-swapping arrangement was much better than resorting to violence to settle our differences,” he said.

“However, I would be lying if I say that thoughts of killing Koech did not cross my mind, they did. However, I prayed about it and tried the much I could to remain calm under the circumstances,” he said.

When asked by K24 Digital why he married a woman, who was a minor (13 years old) at the time they first met — in 2010 — , Patrick said: “That is Mercy’s age as per her ID card, and you know ID card numbers are based on the year you apply for one. I suspect she is older, and only applied for the ID card much later. I am told by her family members that she was born in 1992. That means, I married her when she was of age; 18 years.”

Koech, on the other hand, wasn’t reachable to respond to claims that he married Sheila — in 2007 — , when she was only 11 years old, which is a crime under the Kenyan Law.

Attempts by K24 Digital to reach the families of Mercy and Sheila for comment were unsuccessful.

85-year old woman faces murder charges after shooting two of her roommates

An 85-year-old Washington woman has been charged with murder after she opened fire on her roommates, killing one, according to a report.

Beverly Jenne allegedly gunned down one of her roomies and injured another at their Federal Way home, where a chilling note was uncovered inside a gun holster.

The letter, dated around two hours before the Dec. 19 killing, said the slain woman “was not a nice person. She drove me to this.”

Jenne had previously owned the home before it went into foreclosure and was purchased.

The buyer rented the property to two sisters in their 30s and allowed Jenne to continue to live there while she looked for a new place.

Police said they received a 911 call from one of the roommates around 1 a.m. claiming she was shot inside her home.

Officers arrived to find one of the sisters dead and the other in critical condition. She was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Jenne was discovered trying to strangle herself with an electric cord and brought to a Tacoma hospital.

She will be booked into jail on $1 million bail when she is released from the hospital, reports said.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 6.
