Canadian social media influencer ordered to pay ex-boyfriend $200k for damaging his reputation using Instagram

A Supreme Court judge in Canada has ordered a Canadian woman to pay her ex-boyfriend more than $200,000 after finding she had damaged his reputation using Instagram and other websites.

Justice Elliot Myers made the ruling on Sept. 25, but the ruling was not published until now.

Brandon Rook, a Vancouver resource industry executive and business consultant, brought the case against Noelle Halcrow, a former Parfums Christian Dior employee and self-described social media influencer, after she began attacking her ex online following a pair of breakups about a year apart.

Halcrow’s posts alleged Rook was an out-of-control drunk, a cheater and carried STDs.

In his ruling, Myers concluded that Halcrow “mounted a campaign against Mr. Rook that was as relentless as it was extensive,” and that “she was motivated by malice.”

Rook and Halcrow dated briefly in August 2015, but Rook broke off the relationship, the ruling states.

They began dating again in February of the following year, until Rook again broke off the relationship in August 2016, according to the ruling.

Spanish police arrest Nigerian 'archduchess' for posing as UN Women head

A woman who posed as the president of the Spanish branch of UN Women, requesting funds and giving interviews to the media has been arrested in Spain.

The woman of Nigerian origin with Spanish nationality was detained in Denia on Spain's eastern Mediterranean coast on charges of impersonation and fraud.

The woman allegedly provided online legal courses and solicited "funds to carry out different projects related to the institution she claimed to represent," police said in a statement.

She "participated in conferences and gave interviews in different media," police said.

The investigation began in mid-2018 when the police received a complaint from the New York-based UN Women about a woman posing as the president of UN Women in Spain and the Spanish National Committee of UN Women.

UN Women, a body "dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women," does not have a country office in Spain, according to its website.

After the complaint, there were several communications between the organization and the woman in order to make her understand the illicit actions. She was asked to stop, but refused.

Spanish media identified the woman as Helen Mukoro Idisi.

On her personal website, she describes herself an "archduchess" and "Nigerian aristocrat," as well as a "Spanish politician, detective, author, legal expert, business and finance consultant."

The books she allegedly wrote, including such titles as "Make Wealth Anywhere," were sold on Amazon.

Her other claimed titles are president of the African Europe Chamber of Commerce, a non-existent organization, and "advisor on diaspora and auxiliary affairs" of the Delta State of Nigeria, where she was born.

She also established a political party, "Union de Todos" (Union for All), and participated in at least three elections. According to El Confidencial newspaper, she received the fewest votes to be Spain's head of government in the last election, with just 31 votes.

Photos: Angry mob sets fire station ablaze after fire guts popular Oyo market

An angry mob have set a fire station ablaze after fire gutted the popular Akesan market in Oyo State early hours of this morning.

Wares worth several millions of naira were said to have been destroyed in the fire.

Akesan market is famous for sale of wide range of food items, local artifacts, clothing materials, household utensils and more.

Although the immediate cause of the fire had yet to be confirmed, some people, however, attributed the incident to electric spark.

The people of the town reportedly went wild with rage when the official on duty told them that they could not do anything to quell the fire because there was no water in their fire truck.

The enraged mob reportedly set up the truck and other property at the Fire station on fire in protest.

Eyewitness said the inferno started around 12:30am.

EFCC may subject Shehu Sani to lie detector test

There is an indication that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may soon administer the lie detector test on detained  Shehu Sani and the Chairman/ CEO of ASD Motors, Alhaji Sani Dauda over the alleged $20,000 bribe allegation against Sani by Dauda.

The lie detector test may be carried out after planned interrogation of the businessman’s wife tomorrow, The Nation reported.

Mrs Dauda is said to be central to what her husband went through and why the family opted to report the Senator to the anti-graft agency.

Also, the businessman is yet to accept alleged overtures to withdraw his petition against the Senator.

Sani’s alleged offence attracts a two-three-year jail term.

According to the medium, investigation revealed that the EFCC is considering polygraph option because both the Senator and the businessman maintained parallel positions during their interrogations by detectives.

It was gathered that while the businessman insisted that Sani extorted $24,000 from him, the embattled Senator said he only had car purchase transactions with ASD Motors.

I’m ready to die for slaughtering LASU student — Pastor

The self-acclaimed Osun-based pastor, Segun Philips, who reportedly slaughtered a final-year student of Lagos State University, Favour Daley-Oladele, after her head was smashed by her boyfriend, tells Daud Olatunji about his role in the crime

Do you really have a church?

I’m 42 years old and I’m from Osun State. I live in Ikoyi-Ile. I am a prophet. I have a church – Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Solution chapel in Ikoyi-Ile, Osun State.

How did you become a pastor?

I was trained at Elmessiah Cherubim and Seraphim at Sango. I was called by God, but I think I have deviated from my calling and that was why I involved myself in all these atrocities.

How many children do you have?

I have two children, one male and one female.

What was your role in the killing of Favour?

We wanted to perform money ritual for Owolabi’s mother without her knowledge. The agreement was between me and her son; we agreed to do it for her and we promised never to let her know the source of the money.

But the money ritual we wanted to perform required human body parts for it to work. He (Owolabi) asked me where we could get body parts of a human being and I told him I didn’t know because that was the first time I would be performing such. I told him that he was the one that would get the human being to be used for the ritual. Owolabi agreed to bring his girlfriend and when he brought the girlfriend, we killed her and removed all we needed from her. What I removed were the head, heart, breasts and hands. We used all these parts to prepare a concoction for Owolabi’s mother but she did not know that they were human body parts.

We deceived her; we told her we would need to make a sacrifice and that she would need to feed people. I told her that the heart and vital organs of a goat would be used to make a concoction for her to eat.  She never knew what we gave her to eat were human body parts and nobody told her until we were caught.

So you slaughtered the lady…

Yes, it is true. I was the one who slaughtered the lady and removed all the necessary things we needed from her body.

How many people have you done money ritual for?

This was my first time. I told Owolabi when he came to me that I had not done something like that before.
How will you feel if they do the same for your daughter?

I will feel bad and take a very drastic action to ensure the culprits are brought to justice. And because of the proverb that says, ‘Your children would suffer for the wrongs you have done’, I already know my daughter may also face the same fate in the coming years.

Has any family member visited you since you have been arrested?

Nobody wants to associate with me because they heard about the heinous act I committed. I want the government to have mercy on me.  I know I have left God’s way and chosen the path of the devil. I know I have dined with the devil and must face the wrath of justice for my action. I’m a disgrace to priesthood and many have sinned because of me.

I want them to forgive me so that I can start afresh and become a good evangelist who would preach the gospel of Gospel. I know the sentence that will be passed on me for murdering someone is death. Since that is the law of the country, I am ready to face the death penalty for what I did.

A Kano State magistrates’ court, sitting at Nomansland, on Friday remanded a corps member serving in Bebeji Local Government Area, Jepthan Makwin, in custody.

During the arraignment on Friday, the defence counsel filed an application for the bail of the accused person, before the presiding magistrate, Fatima Adamu.

The application was however objected by the prosecuting counsel, Nasiru Fagge.

The magistrate, after listening to the argument of both parties, adjourned the matter till February 4, 2020, for hearing of the bail application.

Davido vows to shun America amidst US- Iran face-off

Davido, has said he won’t go to America till the tension between the country and Iran is over.

Tension began between the United States of America and Iran after US drone strike ordered by President Trump assassinated a top Iranian commander, Qasem Soleimani.

Trump, in a statement from his Mar-a-Lago resort on Friday, said he ordered the assassination of the commander to “stop a war” and not “to start a war,” a statement which seems to have fallen on the deaf side of Iran.

Reacting to the on-going tension, Davido wrote: “Not going to America till the draft is over !! Crazy ass Trump trynna have me shouting Shekpe from Iran.”

Trump threatens Iran with attacks on 52 sites

In a series of tweets Saturday, US President Donald Trump responded to Iranian threats of avenging Major General Qassem Soleimani’s assassination in a US airstrike, by warning that the US will hit 52 Iranian sites, dear to Iran.

His tweets represent a further escalation of the tension, amidst protests by anti-war groups in the US and the UK and the claim by his administration that it was committed to de-escalation.

Trump, who is never known to walk away from a fight lashed out at Tehran in the tweets, and threatened that his country has primed its arsenals on 52 Iranian targets, as a revenge for the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago. This was in 1979.

“Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American, & badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime, including recently hundreds of Iranian protesters.

“He was already attacking our Embassy, and preparing for additional hits in other locations. Iran has been nothing but problems for many years. Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!”, Trump wrote.

NERC orders 78% hike in electricity tariffs

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Saturday announced the immediate review of electricity tariffs in the country from January 1.

The order was issued to the 11 electricity distribution companies (DISCos) on December 31, 2019, but published on the Commission’s website on Saturday.

Signed jointly by the Chairman of the Commission, Joseph Momoh, and the Commissioner for Legal, License & Compliance, Dafe Akpeneye, the order was titled “December 2019 MYTO Minor Review Order” for the 11 DISCOs.

The various tariff reviews for all categories of consumers — except those consumers classified as residential (R1) — ranged from 59.7 per cent for consumers in Ikeja to 77.6 per cent in Enugu.

Under the new order, electricity consumers in Ikeja who used to pay about N13.34 per kWh since under the 2015 MYTO when the last review was carried out will from January 1 this year pay N21.80 per kWh, same as their R2 counterparts.

Their counterparts in Enugu who used to pay about N17.42 per kWh will, under the new order, pay about N30.93 kWh from January 1.

Their R2 and R3 counterparts who paid about N19.31 and N27.11 per kWh since 2015, will now be paying N34.28 and N48.12 per kWh.

Residential (R2) and R3 consumers in Ikeja, who have been paying N13.34 and N26.5 per kWh since 2015, will now be paying N21.30 and N21.80 per kWh.

Residential consumers are those categorised as those using singe phase and three-phase meters and electricity consumption of about 50 kWh in premises with flats exclusively for residential purposes.

The affected DISCos include Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Kano Electricity Distribution Company, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company and Yola Electricity Distribution Company.

The order, the Commission said, supersedes “other orders issued on the subject matter, and shall take effect from January 1, 2020.”

Meet the 49-year old actor who started a relationship with a fellow actor aged 17

A man has quit his job after discovering his boss disapproves of his age-gap relationship.

Actor and model, Michael Hoch, met his girlfriend, Sarah Schopp, at a theatre in 2016.

Sarah was 17 at the time where she was a volunteer student and 29 years younger than Michael.

The young lady from Wuppertal, Germany, was serving drinks at the theatre – Michael, now 49, was there preparing for a play.

That day he says he was drawn to her shy personality and smile after reportedly bumping into each other all day.

Afterwards, Michael decided to find Sarah on Facebook and sent her a message.

However, Sarah, who is now 20, says she was reluctant to take him up on the offer of a date due to their large age-gap and said she would prefer to remain as friends.

But a month into chatting online, the couple found they were just too drawn to each other and decided to enter a relationship while working in the same building.

Many people disapproved of the relationship, and Michael says that he was once attacked in the street for holding her hand.

Sarah’s family admitted that at first they were shocked about the relationship, but after meeting Michael, who was 46 at the time, and getting to know him they soon warmed up to him.

Michael and Sarah’s father are now good friends, even though they are the same age.

He said: “She was only 17 when we got together. But we couldn’t deny our love for each other and at some point I finally convinced her.

“The most difficult thing, in the beginning, was that Sarah looks much younger than she is and was also very reserved at the beginning.”

Now, Sarah remains working at the theatre but Michael decided to quit his employment there because of his boss’s disapproval over their relationship.
