Kidnappers demand N10m for Yola-based doctor Kawuyo

Armed kidnappers are demanding N10 million ransom to free Dr Abdulrahman Kawuyo, who was kidnapped early on Sunday in Yola, Adamawa.

Kawuyo, a medical doctor at the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, was kidnapped from his home around 4 a.m today in Lakare, Yola South. Kawuyo. He hails from Jada, Ganye LGA, like Atiku Abubakar.

The state Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr Tunde Elijah, said the association got to know about the kidnapping when one Kawuyo’s colleagues called his phone line.

“One of our colleagues who was not aware of the kidnapping, called to have some professional information from Dr. Kawuyo, but the call was picked by a strange person who passed it over to the doctor.

“That’s how we got the first-hand information about the incident. But negotiation is ongoing,” Elijah said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Adamawa State, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said the medical doctor packed into his house recently while it was still being worked on.

“It is an uncompleted building. The doctor packed into it, we understand, because he was tired of paying rent where he was.

He said the police had moved into action by mobilising men and officials to go after the kidnappers and free the doctor.

“As we talk, our men are combing the entire area and around the hills to get at the abductors and secure the medical doctor’s freedom,” the PPRO said.

President Duterte directs his military to prepare to evacuate Filipinos in Iran if hostilities escalate

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday directed the military to prepare to evacuate thousands of Filipinos in Iran and Iraq if hostilities escalate in the Middle East.

Duterte issued the directive during an emergency meeting with defence, military and police officials, said Arsenio Andolong, spokesman for the Department of National Defence.

“The sole agenda was how to ensure the safety of our countrymen in the Middle East, especially those in Iraq and Iran as the tension between the United States and Iran rises,” Andolong said in a statement.

“The president tasked the armed forces to prepare its air and naval assets to evacuate and bring home our countrymen if and when open hostilities erupt in the Middle East that may endanger their lives,” he added.

There are currently 1,600 Filipinos in Iran and 6,000 in Iraq, Andolong said.

The death of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike has stoked fears of a new war in the Middle East.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to revenge Soleimani’s killing, while President Donald Trump warned that the U.S. would target 52 sites in the Islamic Republic if Tehran retaliates.

Iran withdrawing from 2015 nuclear deal amid tensions with US

Iran has announced it's fully withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal , just days after President Donald Trump ordered a strike that killed its top military leader, Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

Iranian state TV said Iran will no longer comply with any of the limits of the deal, The Associated Press reported , which effectively means it will no longer limit its enrichment of uranium and could be perceived as the country taking a big step toward obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The deal, which was orchestrated by the Obama administration, had been crumbling ever since Trump withdrew the US from it in May 2018. Trump's decision to pull the US from the nuclear deal is widely viewed as the catalyst for a series of escalatory events that have raised fears of a potential war.

My expectations were not met by Teebillz, BBN's Tacha opens up on management termination

Tacha has revealed the real reason why she terminated her management deal with TeeBillz. In an interview with Punch, she revealed she didn't see what she expected at the BillzVision, so after three months she had to walk away. Speaking about the termination she said;

''When one signs up with a management, one would have expectations and targets. However, it’s one thing to have expectations and it’s another thing to have the expectations turn to reality.
Sadly, that didn’t happen, especially after the first month of being signed to a management. The drive I had and the drive they had didn’t match. I drew their attention to my concerns and also tried to manage the situation by being patient and hoping for a change. But, things got worse as time went on and after three months, I decided we should mutually disengage our business relationship for the sake of my brand.

''(As regards being intimate with Teebillz), people are always saying things and it won’t stop. I don’t know what they mean by that. If their intimacy means that he’s a good manager, then by all means, he is. If not, I’m lost.''

Power cuts in South Africa extended till Monday

South Africa’s struggling state power firm Eskom said on Sunday that it would extend electricity cuts until 5 a.m. local time on Monday.

Eskom said late on Saturday that it would cut up to 2,000 megawatts (MW) from the national grid from 2000 GMT on Saturday until 0600 GMT on Sunday, after a conveyor belt failure at its Medupi coal-fired power station.

The cash-strapped utility said on Sunday that the conveyor belt had been repaired but that plant breakdowns were still constraining the power system in Africa’s most industrialized economy.

Eskom has been battling to keep the lights on, despite low electricity demand over the Christmas and New Year public holidays. It last implemented power cuts in mid-December.

It is rushing to bring back online some generating units from repairs and maintenance, and to replenish diesel and water levels at backup generators so it can meet demand on Monday, when many people will return to work.

Iraqi parliament wants US military out now

The Shiite dominated Iraqi parliament has voted to expel the U.S. military from the country. Lawmakers voted Sunday in favour of a resolution that calls for ending foreign military presence in the country.

There are 5,000 U.S. troops present in different parts of Iraq.

The vote comes two days after a U.S. airstrike killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani inside Iraq, dramatically increasing regional tensions.

The Iraqi resolution specifically calls for ending an agreement in which Washington sent troops to Iraq more than four years ago to help in the fight against the Islamic State group.

The resolution was backed by most Shiite members of parliament, who hold a majority of seats.

Many Sunni and Kurdish legislators did not show up for the session, apparently because they oppose abolishing the deal.

Canadian social media influencer ordered to pay ex-boyfriend $200k for damaging his reputation using Instagram

A Supreme Court judge in Canada has ordered a Canadian woman to pay her ex-boyfriend more than $200,000 after finding she had damaged his reputation using Instagram and other websites.

Justice Elliot Myers made the ruling on Sept. 25, but the ruling was not published until now.

Brandon Rook, a Vancouver resource industry executive and business consultant, brought the case against Noelle Halcrow, a former Parfums Christian Dior employee and self-described social media influencer, after she began attacking her ex online following a pair of breakups about a year apart.

Halcrow’s posts alleged Rook was an out-of-control drunk, a cheater and carried STDs.

In his ruling, Myers concluded that Halcrow “mounted a campaign against Mr. Rook that was as relentless as it was extensive,” and that “she was motivated by malice.”

Rook and Halcrow dated briefly in August 2015, but Rook broke off the relationship, the ruling states.

They began dating again in February of the following year, until Rook again broke off the relationship in August 2016, according to the ruling.

Spanish police arrest Nigerian 'archduchess' for posing as UN Women head

A woman who posed as the president of the Spanish branch of UN Women, requesting funds and giving interviews to the media has been arrested in Spain.

The woman of Nigerian origin with Spanish nationality was detained in Denia on Spain's eastern Mediterranean coast on charges of impersonation and fraud.

The woman allegedly provided online legal courses and solicited "funds to carry out different projects related to the institution she claimed to represent," police said in a statement.

She "participated in conferences and gave interviews in different media," police said.

The investigation began in mid-2018 when the police received a complaint from the New York-based UN Women about a woman posing as the president of UN Women in Spain and the Spanish National Committee of UN Women.

UN Women, a body "dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women," does not have a country office in Spain, according to its website.

After the complaint, there were several communications between the organization and the woman in order to make her understand the illicit actions. She was asked to stop, but refused.

Spanish media identified the woman as Helen Mukoro Idisi.

On her personal website, she describes herself an "archduchess" and "Nigerian aristocrat," as well as a "Spanish politician, detective, author, legal expert, business and finance consultant."

The books she allegedly wrote, including such titles as "Make Wealth Anywhere," were sold on Amazon.

Her other claimed titles are president of the African Europe Chamber of Commerce, a non-existent organization, and "advisor on diaspora and auxiliary affairs" of the Delta State of Nigeria, where she was born.

She also established a political party, "Union de Todos" (Union for All), and participated in at least three elections. According to El Confidencial newspaper, she received the fewest votes to be Spain's head of government in the last election, with just 31 votes.

The enraged mob reportedly set up the truck and other property at the Fire station on fire in protest.

EFCC may subject Shehu Sani to lie detector test

There is an indication that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may soon administer the lie detector test on detained  Shehu Sani and the Chairman/ CEO of ASD Motors, Alhaji Sani Dauda over the alleged $20,000 bribe allegation against Sani by Dauda.

The lie detector test may be carried out after planned interrogation of the businessman’s wife tomorrow, The Nation reported.

Mrs Dauda is said to be central to what her husband went through and why the family opted to report the Senator to the anti-graft agency.

Also, the businessman is yet to accept alleged overtures to withdraw his petition against the Senator.

Sani’s alleged offence attracts a two-three-year jail term.

According to the medium, investigation revealed that the EFCC is considering polygraph option because both the Senator and the businessman maintained parallel positions during their interrogations by detectives.

It was gathered that while the businessman insisted that Sani extorted $24,000 from him, the embattled Senator said he only had car purchase transactions with ASD Motors.

I’m ready to die for slaughtering LASU student — Pastor

The self-acclaimed Osun-based pastor, Segun Philips, who reportedly slaughtered a final-year student of Lagos State University, Favour Daley-Oladele, after her head was smashed by her boyfriend, tells Daud Olatunji about his role in the crime

Do you really have a church?

I’m 42 years old and I’m from Osun State. I live in Ikoyi-Ile. I am a prophet. I have a church – Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Solution chapel in Ikoyi-Ile, Osun State.

How did you become a pastor?

I was trained at Elmessiah Cherubim and Seraphim at Sango. I was called by God, but I think I have deviated from my calling and that was why I involved myself in all these atrocities.

How many children do you have?

I have two children, one male and one female.

What was your role in the killing of Favour?

We wanted to perform money ritual for Owolabi’s mother without her knowledge. The agreement was between me and her son; we agreed to do it for her and we promised never to let her know the source of the money.

But the money ritual we wanted to perform required human body parts for it to work. He (Owolabi) asked me where we could get body parts of a human being and I told him I didn’t know because that was the first time I would be performing such. I told him that he was the one that would get the human being to be used for the ritual. Owolabi agreed to bring his girlfriend and when he brought the girlfriend, we killed her and removed all we needed from her. What I removed were the head, heart, breasts and hands. We used all these parts to prepare a concoction for Owolabi’s mother but she did not know that they were human body parts.

We deceived her; we told her we would need to make a sacrifice and that she would need to feed people. I told her that the heart and vital organs of a goat would be used to make a concoction for her to eat.  She never knew what we gave her to eat were human body parts and nobody told her until we were caught.

So you slaughtered the lady…

Yes, it is true. I was the one who slaughtered the lady and removed all the necessary things we needed from her body.

How many people have you done money ritual for?

This was my first time. I told Owolabi when he came to me that I had not done something like that before.
How will you feel if they do the same for your daughter?

I will feel bad and take a very drastic action to ensure the culprits are brought to justice. And because of the proverb that says, ‘Your children would suffer for the wrongs you have done’, I already know my daughter may also face the same fate in the coming years.

Has any family member visited you since you have been arrested?

Nobody wants to associate with me because they heard about the heinous act I committed. I want the government to have mercy on me.  I know I have left God’s way and chosen the path of the devil. I know I have dined with the devil and must face the wrath of justice for my action. I’m a disgrace to priesthood and many have sinned because of me.

I want them to forgive me so that I can start afresh and become a good evangelist who would preach the gospel of Gospel. I know the sentence that will be passed on me for murdering someone is death. Since that is the law of the country, I am ready to face the death penalty for what I did.

Davido vows to shun America amidst US- Iran face-off

Davido, has said he won’t go to America till the tension between the country and Iran is over.

Tension began between the United States of America and Iran after US drone strike ordered by President Trump assassinated a top Iranian commander, Qasem Soleimani.

Trump, in a statement from his Mar-a-Lago resort on Friday, said he ordered the assassination of the commander to “stop a war” and not “to start a war,” a statement which seems to have fallen on the deaf side of Iran.

Reacting to the on-going tension, Davido wrote: “Not going to America till the draft is over !! Crazy ass Trump trynna have me shouting Shekpe from Iran.”

Trump threatens Iran with attacks on 52 sites

In a series of tweets Saturday, US President Donald Trump responded to Iranian threats of avenging Major General Qassem Soleimani’s assassination in a US airstrike, by warning that the US will hit 52 Iranian sites, dear to Iran.

His tweets represent a further escalation of the tension, amidst protests by anti-war groups in the US and the UK and the claim by his administration that it was committed to de-escalation.

Trump, who is never known to walk away from a fight lashed out at Tehran in the tweets, and threatened that his country has primed its arsenals on 52 Iranian targets, as a revenge for the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago. This was in 1979.

“Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American, & badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime, including recently hundreds of Iranian protesters.

“He was already attacking our Embassy, and preparing for additional hits in other locations. Iran has been nothing but problems for many years. Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!”, Trump wrote.
