Soleimani Killing: Shiites protest in Abuja, burn US flag

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shi’ites on Monday led a procession and protest in Banex, Wuse Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Shi’ite members were protesting over the killing of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani following an airstrike by the United States of America.
They also demanded the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat who are currently in detention.

The angry protesters marched the streets of Abuja chanting hate songs and slogans like “Death To America.”

They also burnt a flag of the United States of America and carried placards condemning the killing of the top Iranian general.

Boko Haram: Panic as 1,200 Chadian troops withdraw from Nigeria

The Presidency on Sunday asked Nigerians not to panic over the withdrawal of 1,200 Chadian troops from the Lake Chad Basin bordering the country.

It said the withdrawal was in line with the mandate of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), launched on July 1, 2016 and due to end on December 31, 2019.

It said Nigeria will be sending troops to Chad as part of a new concept against the Boko Haram insurgency.

In line with the scope of the MNJTF, the 1,200 troops were recalled on Friday from a part of the Northeast.

Following their withdrawal, many Nigerians in Borno State started fleeing the areas managed by the Chadian troops, which is not vacant.

The operation was estimated to have cost Africa-EU partnership about 50million Euro and the UK about £5 million.

“Nobody should panic, Nigerians need not to worry at all about the Chadian withdrawals.

“They came here as a part of a concept of the ongoing operations. That concept has changed and they are moving out.

“Indications from the Defence Headquarters suggest that soon, Nigeria will be sending troops to that country as part of yet another concept.

“So there is nothing of concern about the way deployments are made by the MNJTF. They know what they are doing. It is in execution of their mandate.

“Nigerians should equally not have any doubts about the ability of our armed forces to hold their own. They are capable and have proven to be so,” President’s spokesman Garba Shehu said yesterday.

CAN, Bishop fault Mbaka, for saying Uzodinma will take over from Governor Ihedioha this year

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Sunday faulted a prediction by the Director, Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Rev. Ejike Mbaka, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, will take over from Governor Emeka Ihedioha.

The Christian body said Mbaka’s “prophesy” is a political statement that trivialises an issue that is before the Supreme Court.

Mbaka had said in his New Year message: “In spite of all that would happen this year 2020, there is hope.

“In Imo State, there is hope. Imo people have suffered but God is raising a new hope that would be an agent of salvation for them.

“He is coming with a new flag to restore the dignity of that noble land. New leadership will break barriers and there would be joy in the land of Imo.

“Lift your candles as I bless Hope Uzodinma and I empower him spiritually to take over. How, I do not know.”

The cleric has been criticised for the statement.

A statement by the Imo State chapter of the CAN, led by Senior Apostle Godson Ibeji, said the body had consistently opposed such prophecies.

“CAN has consistently opposed such politically-motivated prophesies and strived to maintain the standards that regulate the practice of Christianity.

“We will continue to tow this path until we restore sanity in the practice of priesthood,” CAN said.

Also, Bishop Lucius Ugorji of Umuahia Catholic Diocese said the Catholic Church was not into fortune-telling.

Rev. Ugorji, who is the Apostolic Administrator of Ahiara Diocese, to which Mbaka belongs, added that the church did not authorise any priest to make predictions.

Lulu-Briggs: Late Chief's son fights widow dirty... heads to court... body of Briggs still in mortuary ONE YEAR after death

Dumo Lulu-Briggs, son of the late philanthropist Olu Lulu-Briggs has accused his father’s widow, Seinye, of deliberately delaying his father’s burial, which is fixed for January 25.

Lulu-Briggs died on December 27, 2018.

Dumo, through his spokesman Sotonye Ijuye-Dagogo, said: “Asked to release her husband’s body for burial, Seinye refused, and it is more than a year now. The Ghana Police Service instituted an autopsy and obtained an order of the coroner to conduct an autopsy, amid severe opposition from Seinye.

“Eventually, Seinye managed to smuggle in a stranger pathologist, Dr. Lawrence Edusei, to bungle and render unacceptable an autopsy process that was not only a police initiative, but also a coroner’s order. Dr. Edusei walked out the Ghana Police pathologist and the Nigeria Police pathologist from the autopsy theatre and refused to give tissue samples to the parties.

By this act, Seinye ended up orchestrating an autopsy that breached the terms of a consent order of the high court which her lawyers obtained, in which it was clearly stated that Col. Attoh of the 37 Military Hospital, Accra, should perform the autopsy.

“On September 6, 2019, Mrs. E.K. Barnes-Botchway, the magistrate and  coroner, concluded that events following the death of High Chief O.B. Lulu-Briggs, including statements of persons on the flight, and the doctor that examined his body on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport Clinic, Accra, shows that Chief Lulu-Briggs did not die a natural death. The coroner, therefore, ordered an inquest into his death, but Seinye runs to a court with a certiorari application to stop the inquest.

What is Seinye hiding? How did her husband’s dead body get to Ghana from Nigeria?

“What has Seinye done that she does not want an inquest into the death of High Chief O.B. Lulu-Briggs? It looks like she is terrified of an inquest or a transparent autopsy, because she may not be able to compromise the pathologists again.

“Shamelessly, Seinye is reported to have said the January 25 burial date is achievable. This is against the fact that the Ghana Appeal Court will begin to hear her appeal on January 24. What kind of woman is she?

“Seinye claimed to have given two preconditions – that she would have two of her representatives to attend the burial plans’ meetings; and the family would promise and undertake before a judge that she would not be put through any form of crude burial practices. None exists in Kalabari customs; Seinye is only casting Kalabari tradition in bad light, in pursuit of her evil plans.”

But Seinye, through her spokesman, Oraye St. Franklyn, described Dumo as confused and lying.

Seinye insisted that she and the deceased’s seven children – Senibo, Dumo, Sofiri, Solate, Rachael, Dateim and Iyowuna – must play active roles during the funeral, which Governor Nyesom Wike assured will be a state burial.

Seinye said: “…whose body did Dumo identify and sign out of the mortuary for the autopsy? The autopsy was completed and the report was filed. Whose body did he identify and sign back into the mortuary after the autopsy?

“If Dumo has a problem with the autopsy, then the family should call a leading expert to review the report. On December 27, 2019, he blocked the release of the autopsy report. Why has Dumo gone to court to block that? Dumo is certainly now confused…”

The widow added that she was ready for her husband’s burial on January 25, thereby putting an end to the avoidable crisis.

No plan to sack workers, says Ekiti government

The Ekiti State government has debunked reports that it plans to sack workers in the civil service.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, reads: “The government’s attention has been drawn to reports that it plans to sack workers in the MDAs. The misleading reports, which quoted an anonymous source in the office of the Head of Service, is a tissue of lies and a figment of the writer’s imagination.

“The Office of the Head of Service has no plans to disengage workers in the listed MDAs as claimed in the malicious reports. The Head of Service, Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi, is authorised to speak on issues relating to the service and not the rumour mill.

“Contrary to the concocted lies, the government wishes to place it on record that it has no plan to sack anyone in the MDAs. Instead, it is about concluding the process of employing about 3,000 workers in the teaching and civil service.

“The recruitment process, which was well advertised, began in September 2019 and has reached the final stage, as about 98 per cent of the applicants who passed the examinations have gone through interview sessions preparatory to the issuance of their employment letters as teachers in the public primary and secondary schools, and in the civil service…”

The clarification followed a protest by the organised labour  against alleged plans by the government to sack workers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the government recently sacked 1,000 workers of Ekiti State University (EKSU) and another 200 at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH). They got their sack letters few days to Christmas, the report claimed.

Photos: Inside the cell where Jeffrey Epstein 'killed himself'

Graphic photographs from Jeffrey Epstein's autopsy have revealed for the first time his bloody neck wound - as other images taken inside his New York prison cell show several nooses fashioned from bed sheets, pills and electrical cords.

The images, which were obtained by 60 Minutes and shown publicly for the first time on Sunday, were taken by the New York City medical examiner's office after Epstein killed himself in his cell last August.

The millionaire pedophile's death at Manhattan's Metropolitan Correctional Center - while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges - was officially ruled as a suicide by hanging.

His death prompted widespread conspiracy theories and speculation that he had instead been murdered.

The photos from inside his cell reveal that fragments of material were found hanging from a window, while a large strip of bedding was also looped through a hole on the top bunk bed.

Oprah Winfrey and Lady Gaga cry as singer reveals she developed PTSD after being r.a.p.e.d repeatedly at 19

She kicked off her 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus Tour on Saturday in Florida. And gracing Oprah's, 65, national tour as the first guest, was none other than 'the incomparable' Lady Gaga.

The 33-year-old took to the stage where she candidly opened up to the 15,000 person crowd about her PTSD after being raped, bringing the talk-show queen to tears.

Gaga, who suffers from fibromyalgia, revealed that even during the hour-long chat she was in 'head-to-toe pain,' according to Rolling Stone.

'What’s interesting about it is that I’ve found through neuropsych research and my relationship with my doctors that fibromyalgia can be treated through mental health therapy,' she shared.

'And mental health is a medical condition, it should be treated as a medical condition. It should not be ignored.'

The A Star Is Born actress, who rocked bright pink hair and a black power suit, went on to open up about being repeatedly raped when she was still a teen.

'I was raped repeatedly when I was 19 years old, and I also developed PTSD as a result of being raped and also not processing that trauma,' she shared.

'I all of a sudden became a star and was traveling the world going from hotel room to garage to limo to stage, and I never dealt with it, and then all of a sudden I started to experience this incredible intense pain throughout my entire body that mimicked the illness I felt after I was r.a.p.e.d.'

In an IGTV video following their on-stage chat, Oprah was seen tearfully searching for the singer.

'You were so amazing. You were so good. You were so vulnerable, you were so real, I couldn't even believe you were doing that. I was like, "Am I hearing correctly?" Oh my you were so real,' Oprah said through the tears.

And while the talk show queen was saying all those kind and heart warming things, Gaga couldn't help but cry herself.

'You were so good, so strong, so you, it was so good. Thank you for doing that for me.'

Gaga replied: 'Of course, that's what happens when you're in the presence of an angel.'

The powerful duo continued to compliment each other for the vulnerable confessions in front of the crowd.

Macron speaks to Trump, says Iran must not escalate situation

Emmanuel Macron expressed France’s solidarity with its allies during a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday and said Iran must avoid “destabilizing” actions after a top Iranian military commander was killed in a U.S. air strike in Baghdad.

“Given the recent rise in tensions in Iraq and the region, the President of the Republic highlighted his total solidarity with our allies in light of the attacks carried out in recent weeks against the coalition in Iraq,” Macron’s office said in a statement.

“He also expressed his concerns regarding the destabilizing activities of the Quds force under General Qassem Soleimani and highlighted the need for Iran... to avoid taking any measures that could lead to an escalation in the situation and destabilizing the region.”

Jennifer Lopez leads the list of worst-dressed stars at the Golden Globes

Jennifer Lopez is expected to be the big winner of the night at the 77th annual Golden Globes - but the Hustlers star suffered a rather unexpected fail before even making it into the ceremony thanks to her baffling ensemble.

The 50-year-old made quite the statement as she arrived at the event, looking not unlike an over-the-top Christmas gift in her green, white, and gold gown.

As if the color scheme wasn't festive enough, the voluminous dress also featured an enormous array of bow embellishments on the front, leaving the star looking as though she was set to be placed under a Christmas tree - not up on stage accepting a Best Support Actress award.

Despite the rather awkward fashion flop, Jennifer, who attended the award show with her fiance Alex Rodriguez, still managed to look incredibly glamorous thanks to her beautiful hair and makeup - and the incredible jewels dangling from her neck and ears.

Jennifer was certainly not the only big-name star of the night to face a fashion-focused struggle.

Joining the Golden Globe nominee on the list is The Politician star Gwyneth Paltrow, who wore an incredibly scandalous sheer brown dress that left far too little to the imagination, exposing both her bra and underwear - which were all the more visible when the actress turned around and showed off the dress from behind.

Golden Globes: Eddie Murphy & fiancee dazzle on red carpet

Eddie Murphy and Paige Butcher were Hollywood royalty as they made their way down the red carpet at the 77th Golden Globe Awards held Sunday at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Dolemite Is My Name actor, 58, donned a dark burgundy velvet jacket with black pants to the proceedings, with black sunglasses and shoes.

Butcher, a 40-year-old Perth, Australia native, looked amazing in a high-low strapless dress with a grey top and black bottom, with sandal heels and a furry black clutch. Her straight blonde locks were parted and down as she made her way down the red carpet at the ceremony.

The duo, who confirmed their engagement in September of 2018, are parents to two children: three-year-old daughter Izzy and one-year-old son Max.

Murphy has 10 children in all, five with ex-wife Nicole Murphy, and one each from past relationships with Mel B, Tamara Hood and Paulette McNeely.
