Jay-Z and Yo Gotti threaten to sue Mississippi over bad state of prisons

This is very commendable! Rap mogul Jay-Z and hip-hop artist Yo Gotti wrote a letter to two top Mississippi officials  protesting the conditions of Mississippi prisons and demanding change.

The letter contained a threat — Jay-Z and Yo Gotti are ready to sue the state if prison conditions aren't improved.

An outbreak of deadly gang violence that left five dead in Mississippi prisons has brought the system's long-running problems into sharp relief and under national scrutiny.

The letter, addressed to Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant and Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Pelicia Hall, mentions frequent prison lockdowns, violence, a staffing shortage and inmates who "are forced to live in squalor, with rats that crawl over them as they sleep on the floor, having been denied even a mattress for a cot."

In a statement, Yo Gotti called the conditions inside Mississippi prisons "absolutely inhumane and unconstitutional."

"To see this happen so close to my hometown of Memphis is truly devastating," the rapper's statement said. "That’s why we’re calling on Mississippi state leaders to take immediate action and rectify this issue. If they don’t right this wrong, we’re prepared to take legal action to provide relief for those that are incarcerated and their families.”

Alex Spiro, a New York lawyer representing Roc Nation, Yo Gotti and Jay-Z's company, signed the letter on behalf of Team Roc. He said he wrote the letter in collaboration with the celebrities.

Remember the 36-year old Ugandan woman who has 44 children? She has been banned from having more children

The 36-year old Ugandan woman who already has 44 children has been banned from getting pregnant as a result of her complicating health conditions.

Mariam Nabatanzi was just 12 years old when she got married to a 40-year-old man. She gave birth to twins the following year. But due to a genetic condition that led her to having unusually large ovaries that produced multiple eggs per cycle, Mariam had plenty of babies per pregnancy.

She gave birth to a total of six sets of twins, four sets of triplets, and five sets of quadruplets. All in all, she had 15 pregnancies, all with multiple births that resulted to a total of 44 babies. She lost six babies in childbirth but had to take care of the rest of her 38 children.

Doctors are said to have banned Mariam from getting pregnant again, even though she’s still 36 years old. After all, a healthy woman like her could still get pregnant with more kids – and she might have over 100 kids if they don’t help her out!

Acknowledging that the ban is for her own good, Mariam actually felt happy that she is finally free.

She admitted that she had asked doctors to help her out after the first few pregnancies, but she was told that birth control pills might actually lead to other health complications because of her genetic condition.

Right now, Mariam struggles to raise her big brood after her husband left when the doctors cut her ovaries. Perhaps the husband still wanted more kids!

Journalist Paul Dada releases two gospel singles

The Editor of AN24.net, Paul Dada, has released two gospel singles, ‘Golgotha nla’ and ‘Grateful.’

Dada, who released his debut album, ‘Thunder in the Sky’ June, 2019 and a single, ‘Sorry for you,’ later same year, said the two newly released singles are part of an album to be launched later towards the middle of 2020.

Commenting about the two songs, Dada said, ” I made up my mind to write and record songs that really reflect the main reason why Christ came to the world, which was to do the redemptive work for men and women.

“I realised that in Nigeria, there is a paucity of true gospel songs. Yes, we have songs which people call gospel songs. Aside from those ones which are used to praise God, only few really address the core issues of salvation, consecration, righteous living, persecution, temptations, evangelism among others. Therefore, I made up my mind to do songs that will tell sinners to repent and challenge believers to become more consecrated to God.

“Golgotha nla is a danceable song yet it draws our attention to the suffering of Christ on the cross and the benefits of His crucifixion. We can say it is a celebration of what Christ accomplished for on the cross.

“Grateful is a song of appreciation to God for the work of salvation He wrought for us.”

Queen and Prince Harry to hold talks over Sussexes' future

The Queen and the Duke of Sussex are to hold talks at Sandringham on Monday to discuss the future roles of Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex.

Palace officials have also told the BBC the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge are expected to attend the meeting.

The Sussexes say they plan to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.

There is no suggestion that a conclusion will be reached at the meeting.

But the BBC's royal correspondent Jonny Dymond says it is hoped that the talks will produce a "next step" on the way to defining the couple's new relationship with the Royal Family - in line with the Queen's wish to find a solution within days.

He added that there were still "formidable obstacles" to overcome in the talks.

Monday's gathering at the Queen's estate in Norfolk follows several meetings and consultations in the wake of the couple's announcement earlier this week.

Extreme cold and hazy weather disrupts business activities in Jigawa state

Hazy and cold weather on Saturday forced many residents of Dutse, the Jigawa capital, to remain indoors.

The busiest places in the capital were deserted due to extreme cold and hazy weather conditions.

Malam Yunusa Minari, a taxi driver in Dutse, at a popular investment building, said that he had been at the roadside park for more than two hours but did not get passengers.

Minari explained that he plied Dutse-Birnin kudu road, in which the car often got filled within 30 minutes, but had spent two hours with only two passengers.

It was also observed that the ever-busy Hakimi Street was abandoned as few people were seen at tea vendors’ joints.

A housewife, Hauwa Abdullahi said that the cold this year was so severe that prevented her children from attending school.

Hauwa added that her children could not cope with the cold weather condition and dust, hence her decision to tell them to remain indoors.

It was observed that the popular Sani Abacha way was also deserted and vehicles on the road were seen with headlights on as visibility was poor.

Nigerian among 176 victims of Ukranian plane crash

A Nigerian, identified as Dauda Onoruoiza, was reportedly among the victims of the Ukraine International Airlines flight 752 crash in Iran on Wednesday.

Reports said Onoruoiza was working with Boeing on three months training in Ukraine and was attached to the Boeing 737-800 to fly with and study the mechanical noise and report back to the company.

The ill-fated plane was said to have been scheduled for maintenance on Monday, January 13, 2020 in Ukraine.

The nationality of passengers and crew aboard the plane were given as 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukranians, 10 people from Sweden, four from Afghanistan and three from the United Kingdom and Germany respectively.

It was however not clear what passport Onoruoiza had before the accident.

Boeing had yet to officially acknowledge that it had an employee on the crashed plane.

The US aircraft manufacturer, however, posted a condolence message on its website to commiserate with the victims’ families, after the news of the incident broke on January 8.

The statement read in part, “This is a tragic event and our heartfelt thoughts are with the crew, passengers and their families.

“We are in contact with our airline customers and stand by them in this difficult time. We are ready to assist in any way needed.”

The Iranian government had admitted that it shot down the commercial aircraft unintentionally.

Taiwan's Tsai wins second presidential term

Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen has secured a second term after sweeping to victory in an election dominated by the island's relationship with China.

Ms Tsai secured just over 57% of the ballot - a record 8.2m votes - well ahead of her rival Han Kuo-yu.

Ms Tsai opposes closer ties with China, with Mr Han suggesting they would bring economic benefits.

In her victory speech, Ms Tsai told China to abandon its threat to take back the island by force.

Ms Tsai told a news conference: "Taiwan is showing the world how much we cherish our free democratic way of life and how much we cherish our nation."

China has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949. It says Taiwan must eventually be reunited with China, by force if necessary.

'Record number' of elephant deaths in Sri Lanka

A record number of elephants - 361 - have died in Sri Lanka during 2019, environmental groups say.

It is highest figure of elephant deaths to be reported since Sri Lanka became independent in 1948, conservationists said. Most were killed by people.

There are an estimated 7,500 wild elephants in Sri Lanka. Killing them is illegal, but the animals often come into conflict with rural communities.

Elephants are revered in Sri Lanka but some farmers view them as pests.

Sajeewa Chamikara, an environmentalist from the Movement for Land and Agricultural Reform, told the BBC that some 85% of elephant deaths last year may have been caused by human activity.

He said communities had used electric fences, poison and explosives concealed as food to kill the animals.

Medicine dealer hangs self to death in Cross River

A patent medicine dealer, David Agabi, in the Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State has ended his life.

It was gathered that Agabi, who was popular in Igoli where he operated his medicine store, committed suicide on Friday in his house located on Okuku Road, Igoli, Ogoja.

Ibrahimovic scores on first start in Milan return

Zlatan Ibrahimovic said scoring his first goal for AC Milan since rejoining the club made him "feel alive" as his side eased past Cagliari in Serie A.

Rafael Leao had given the Rossoneri the lead just after half-time before Ibrahimovic, starting for the first time since his return, doubled their advantage with a left-footed strike.

The former LA Galaxy and Sweden striker had another goal ruled out for offside.

"I'll celebrate like a God at San Siro, not here," Ibrahimovic said.

"The important thing is that I feel good. I missed a few balls at the beginning of the game, but I need to play games to get back in shape."

Ibrahimovic, 38, signed a six-month deal at the Serie A side in December, with the option of another season.

He scored 42 goals in 61 league games for the club between 2010 and 2012. His strike on Saturday was his 57th goal for Milan and 123rd in Serie A, having also played for Inter Milan and Juventus.

"I feel good, the coach just wanted to think about my age and see if I needed a rest, but there's no problem" added Ibrahimovic.

Ariana Grande to perform at 2020 Grammy Awards

Ariana Grande will perform at the 2020 Grammy Awards, the singer announced today on her social media accounts.

The Recording Academy later confirmed the news in an Instagram post, writing: "OFFICIAL #ArianaGrande will perform at the #Grammys Jan. 26!"

Sources tell Variety that several performers will be making the announcements themselves before the Grammys' traditional, multi-artist announcements are made.

Billie Eilish kicked off the tactic late Tuesday night, with the official announcement coming the following morning when fellow performers Lizzo, Aerosmith, and a duet from Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were also announced.

Grande is up for five Grammys this year.

Grande's appearance will be a triumph for more reasons than one: Last year she backed out of a performance on the show, just days before it was to take place, after she and the producers could not agree on a song, sources close to the situation told Variety at the time.

An insider said Grande felt "insulted" after producers initially refused to allow her to perform "7 Rings" — which now is up for the 2020 Record of the Year prize. A compromise was reached whereby "7 Rings" would be part of a medley, but Grande pulled out after producers insisted that the second song be of their choosing, sources said.

While she declined to attend the show, she later posted a video of herself dancing around her bedroom after she won her first Grammy, Best Pop Vocal Album, for her 2018 LP "Sweetener."

Grande tweeted about her win, writing, "i know i'm not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things .... but f--- ....... this is wild and beautiful. thank you so much."

The Grammy Awards, again hosted by Alicia Keys, will be broadcast live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 26, starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Man edits himself and girlfriend in to Sleeping Beauty movie in epic Disney proposal

A Disney fan proposed to his unsuspecting girlfriend by editing them both into a specially made screening of Sleeping Beauty.

Lee Loechler popped the question to his high school sweetheart Sthuthi David in front of friends and family in this heartwarming clip.

The filmmaker painstakingly worked with Australian illustrator Kayla Coombs for over six months to get the proposal video exactly right.

Lee wrote on Instagram : "It’s not every day you get to propose to your High School sweetheart.

"For the past six months I’ve been working with  @kaylacoombs  to animate  @stutzd4  and myself into her favorite movie, Sleeping Beauty.
"The only thing better than seeing the smartest person I know completely dumbfounded was knowing we’d get to live happily ever after together. Enjoy!"

Loechler, from Boston, US, chose to alter one of the film's most iconic scenes where the princess is awoken by the kiss of her suitor.

Future wife Sthuthi looks in complete shock as he gets down on one knee to ask her to marry him.

"Sthuthi David, MD, will you live happily ever after with me?" Loechler asked.

Sthuthi responded "I don't know what to say!" before consenting to the highly-unconventional marriage proposal.

Social media users have expressed their delight at the incredible marriage video which has since gone viral on social media.

One Twitter user described the clip as 'the best thing they had ever seen'.
