Two robbers burnt to ashes after robbing pregnant woman

There was pandemonium in Uyo Akwa Ibom state capital Wednesday as residents of Abak Road, Uyo, by the flyover caught two armed robbers that robbed a pregnant woman and burnt them to ashes.

It was gathered that the hoodlums were actually four in number but two others managed to escape.

An eyewitness who did not want to be mentioned said the incident occurred at about 09:00 pm on Tuesday when the pregnant women whose name was not disclosed were attacked by the hoodlums immediately she alighted from a commercial motorcycle.

According to the eye witness, the motorcyclist had already taken off after dropping his passenger but was immediately compelled to turn back when he heard screams from the pregnant woman.

He said two of the robbers on sighting him approaching took to their heels but two others who successfully dispossessed the woman of her valuables were caught and set ablaze.

A tricycle operator said the woman’s screams caused the neighbours and residents of the area to come out to assist the motorcyclist to rescue the woman who had sustained a severe hand injury and arrested the hoodlums

“Luck ran out of two of them when they were overpowered by many men who beat, stoned them with blocks and locked them up in the same tunnel and set them ablaze”. he said.

He lamented that hoodlums have been terrorising the area for some years now, noting that the hoodlums had already robbed some houses before their encounter with the pregnant woman.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon said, “It is unfortunate that they were already set ablaze before we got there. Jungle justice has no place in the law. Every accused is innocent until proven guilty by law”.

The PPRO who cautioned that the command would no longer tolerate such acts used the common saying that “it was better for nine thieves to be allowed unpunished than for one innocent person to be killed in error”.

“We have liaised with the state waste management authority to evacuate the remains while investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind the act”, he said

Tory MP reveals she had to use toilet paper when she suffered period poverty

An Tory MP has spoke out about the "embarrassment and shame" she felt as a teenager when she was forced to use toilet paper or newspaper instead of sanitary products when she had her period.

Raising the issue of period poverty during PMQs , Amanda Solloway, the new Tory MP for Derby North, said her family were unable to afford sanitary products, so she had to improvise.

From Monday, the Government introduced a scheme to allow schools and colleges to order free sanitary products for their learners.

She told MPs: "You may have noticed that it's been a long time since I was a teenager.


"My memory has faded over the years, yet I still remember the embarrassment and shame that I felt each month when I had my period.

"We couldn't afford sanitary products and I was forced to use toilet paper or, when we didn't have that, newspaper.

"Would the Prime Minister agree with me and acknowledge the work of Amika George, the founder of the Free Periods campaign group, that means no young woman of school age in this country should ever have to feel the shame I felt and remember all those years ago?"

Juice WRLD’s cause of death revealed as accidental over dose of oxycodone and codeine

The cause of death of Chicago rapper Juice WRLD has been confirmed. He died of an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine, the Cook County Medical Examiner ruled Wednesday.

Juice WRLD, whose legal name was Jarad Higgins, died on December 8 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after experiencing cardiac arrest-like symptoms upon arriving at Chicago’s Midway Airport.

Law enforcement officials were waiting at Midway for the rapper’s private plane to land, having received information from a federal task force that guns and drugs might be onboard. It was during a search of the plane and questioning of passengers that the rapper began convulsing, according to Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.


Federal agents administered Narcan on the scene – a drug used to revive people thought to be overdosing on opioids and he was transported to Christ Hospital shortly after, Guglielmi said.

Confiscated from the Gulfstream Jet that flew from California were 70 pounds of marijuana were found in 41 vacuum-sealed bags; six bottles of liquid prescription codeine cough syrup; and three firearms, including two 9mm pistols and a .40-caliber pistol, along with metal-piercing bullets and a high capacity ammunition magazine.

While no drug charges were filed, two men identified as security guards for the rapper, Christopher Long, 36 and Henry Dean, 27, were charged with misdemeanors for possessing guns and ammunition.

Long was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and Dean, who had a permit to carry a gun in Illinois, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon at an airport and possessing the ammunition.

In the days after Juice WRLD’s death, fans of the rapper packed Chicago’s Millenium Park to pay tribute to the rapper, who many said tapped into their lives with his heartfelt lyrics.

“The impact he had on me, I can’t even describe,” said 22-year-old Jeremy Hill of Elgin. “I was in a dark place when I got into him and he helped me get over a heartbreak. He really gave voice to the voiceless. It’s like he was one of us.”

Man ‘travels 300kms to kill 22-year-old girlfriend’

Police in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, Kenya have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the death of a 22-year-old woman, whom he was dating.

The suspect, Allan Musila, who works as a security guard with G4S in Kakamega County, arrived at the now-deceased’s house in Weru area in Kinangop late Tuesday, January 21.

An argument between them erupted, leading to a fatal attack.

Police say Musila stabbed his girlfriend, Consolata Wambui, a teacher at St. Michael’s Girls’ High School in Nyandarua, multiple times using a kitchen knife.


Wambui sustained serious injuries to the head and chest.

Wambui’s brother, who resides near his sister’s rented house, told K24 Digital that he heard Wambui screaming for help, and when he arrived at the scene, he found Musila holding a knife that had blood dripping from it.


The deceased’s sibling said he raised the alarm, attracting the attention of neighbours, who rushed to Wambui’s house and disarmed the suspect.

Police from Engineer station were called to the scene, where they rescued the suspect from the irate mob.


Wambui, a mother of a young daughter, died Tuesday night shortly after she was admitted to Engineer Sub-County Hospital. Her body remains preserved at the medical facility’s morgue.

Doctors said Wambui lost a lot of blood, resulting in her death.

Musila is currently detained at Engineer Police Station as investigations into Wambui’s killing continue.

Wambui’s relatives said their kin had ended her relationship with Musila some time back, and were shocked to learn that he had travelled from Kakamega to Kinangop — a distance of 300kms — to eliminate their loved one.

The two had a daughter together.

Seven killed, One injured in Ikorodu cult clash

No fewer than seven people were reportedly killed during a violent clash between two rival cultic groups, which started on Monday in Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident in Lagos on Wednesday, said the groups, KK and Eiye Confraternities, were involved in the incident.

Elkana said that the command immediately responded and arrested 10 suspects.

He explained that the fracas, leading to deaths, started when an argument ensued between two members of the cult groups, while one of the fighters was stabbed.


The police spokesman said that the gang whose member was stabbed, believing him to be dead, launched a retaliatory attack on members of the rival group.\\


He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumisu, immediately called for an emergency meeting and summoned the Area Commander, DPOs and the tactical commanders where the incident occurred.

According to him, the police chief also deployed the Special Strike Force men to arrest the social miscreants and deal with the situation.

Elkana recalled that a programme had earlier been organised for cult members to renounce their membership, “so the CP is determined to deal with the menace in the state”.

Kenyan Man who was caught killing wife by daughter is found dead

A 44-year-old man from Likoni, who fatally hacked his wife on Friday following a domestic dispute, has been found dead.

The body of Peter Mutisya was found in a thicket near the Mama Ngina Waterfront by police officers attached to Central police post on Sunday afternoon (January 19).

The cops communicated the discovery with their colleagues at Likoni Police Station, who arrived at the scene and identified the body as that of Mutisya, a suspect who was on the run after allegedly killing his spouse.

Mutisya’s brother, Reuben Mutisya, was called to the scene, where he confirmed that the deceased was his sibling.

Peter Mutisya’s body did not have any visible injuries, hence making it difficult to speculate on the cause of his death, Likoni OCPD Jane Munywoki said.

Mutisya’s body was taken to the Coast Provincial General Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of his death.

On Friday, January 17, police in Likoni, Mombasa launched a hunt for the 44-year-old man, who was accused of killing his wife following a marital conflict.

Peter Mutisya was alleged to have hacked his wife, Ruth Mutisya, 42, in the head and back at 2am Friday at their Pungu Villa home in Likoni. The reason behind their dispute is yet to be known.

U.S. Visa Restrictions: Presidency reacts

The Presidency has described as mere speculations the reported planned imposition of visa restrictions on some African and Asian countries including Nigeria by America’s government led by President Donald Trump.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, stated this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.

Some local traditional media organisations including online publications quoted foreign media outfits on Tuesday that the Donald Trump administration had concluded plans to add seven countries across the world, including Nigeria, to the country’s travel ban list.


The affected countries included Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and Eritrea from Africa while Kyrgyzstan and Belarus from Eastern Europe and Myanmar from Asia.

The presidential aide, however, said: ”Yes, we have read the news that the Trump administration is planning to add a host of African, Asian and Eastern European countries to its travel restrictions list as reported by the U.S. media.

”We are not going to react to speculations. We urge you to wait for us to see what unfolds under the new policy, its scope, its reach, the implications, and its consequences before we react.”

“For such a creature to get on national television and denigrate the people of the South West without any fear of sanction from the Federal Government or any other quarter means only one thing: that the entire country is being run by a bunch of savage cattle-rearers whose intention is to push us into a second civil war.

“It is time to not only ban Miyetti Allah but to also arrest all its leaders, bring them to justice and send them back to Futa Jalon and Futa Toro.

“For those that have blood on their hands to have the nerve to call the sons and daughters of Oduduwa “illiterates” is a step too far. We shall not stand by idly and allow them to insult and denigrate us and we shall no longer take their insults without an appropriate response. Monty Python legend Terry Jones dies aged 77

Monty Python star Terry Jones has died aged 77 after a heartbreaking battle with dementia. The sad news has been confirmed by his agent and Jones' family paid tribute in a statement.

It read: "We are deeply saddened to have to announce the passing of beloved husband and father, Terry Jones.

"Terry passed away on the evening of 21 January 2020 at the age of 77 with his wife Anna Soderstrom by his side after a long, extremely brave but always good humoured battle with a rare form of dementia, FTD.


"Over the past few days his wife, children, extended family and many close friends have been constantly with Terry as he gently slipped away at his home in north London.


"We have all lost a kind, funny, warm, creative and truly loving man whose uncompromising individuality, relentless intellect and extraordinary humour has given pleasure to countless millions across six decades.

"His work with Monty Python, his books, films, television programmes, poems and other work will live on forever, a fitting legacy to a true polymath."

The family went on to thank the doctors who treated Jones during his battle with dementia, adding: "We, his wife Anna, children Bill, Sally, Siri and extended family would like to thank Terry's wonderful medical professionals and carers for making the past few years not only bearable but often joyful.

"We hope that this disease will one day be eradicated entirely.

"We ask that our privacy be respected at this sensitive time and give thanks that we lived in the presence of an extraordinarily talented, playful and happy man living a truly authentic life, in his words 'Lovingly frosted with glucose.'"

Eniola Aluko becomes Aston Villa Women's sporting director

Former England Women striker Eniola Aluko has given a special thanks to John Terry after being named sporting director of Aston Villa Women.

Aluko, 32, recently announced her retirement from playing, but is back working in football again after becoming Villa Women's first-ever sporting director.

The former player, who earned 102 caps for England over the course of her career said: 'I'm very excited to transition into a sporting director role.

'I feel it's something that I'm ready for at this point in my career. I've always been passionate about the women's game, its development and setting cultures that drive excellence.


'I'll be helping to create a successful club in Aston Villa Women, and obviously I'm back home in Birmingham where it all started for me. I'm excited for this next step.'

Aluko, who played for Birmingham City, Chelsea and Juventus as well as clubs in the United States, later thanked a number of people who helped her land the job, including Villa's assistant boss Terry.

Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Bala has reacted to the Supreme Court’s judgement which affirmed his victory in the 2019 governorship election.

Speaking to newsmen in Bauchi, Bala disclosed that he had fears of being sacked just like Emeka Ihedioha by the apex court. He added that his fear was heightened by the confidence his opponents showed before the court judgement.

Bala said; “The Imo incident is one of such incidents that is a manifestation of a judicial process. It was a very painful outcome for me as a PDP member and as a friend to the former governor who was affected”.


“It was something unexpected and I knew what happened to him could happen to anybody.

“Certainly it gave me some fears for the first time, thinking that maybe, the confidence expressed by my competitors had something to do with some assurances in some quarters somewhere, but I still had faith in God.”

Burundi leader to get $530,000 and luxury villa

Burundi's parliament has voted to pay $530,000 (£400,000) to President Pierre Nkurunziza and provide him with a luxury villa when he leaves office.

The draft law, which has been presented to the cabinet for approval, also awards him a lifetime salary.

It also proposes that Mr Nkurunziza be elevated to the title of "supreme leader" when he steps down in May.

Burundi was plunged into a constitutional crisis in 2015 when he successfully ran for a third term.

The move sparked violent protests by opposition supporters which morphed into reprisal attacks.

Court sentences 2 to life imprisonment for kidnapping senator’s wife

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced Abel Okoro and Vincent Wilson, for kidnapping the wife of Senator George Thompson-Sekibo and two of her female friends.

Abel Okoro and Vincent Wilson were sentenced to life imprisonment without an option of fine.

The presiding judge, Justice E. Thompson, agreed with the position of the prosecution counsel that the confessional statements by the defendants, which revealed how they conspired to commit the crime, were made voluntarily and not by any form of inducement.

Justice Thompson ruled that the court found the accused guilty of counts three and four, which borders on conspiracy, attempted kidnap and kidnap of Princess Asime Sekibo and Everly Awinika-Osai and thereafter sentenced the two to life imprisonment without an option of fine.


Recall that the wife of the senator, Princess Asime Sekibo and Evely Awinika-Osai were kidnapped on March 22nd, 2012 around Obiri Ikwerre axis of East-West road on their way back from Study at the University of Port Harcourt.

The suspects were first arraigned before a High Court in Port Harcourt on the 21st of September 2012, on nine-count charges of felony, kidnapping, armed robbery and rape.

The convicted persons were reported to have collected the total sum of ten million naira from the family of the victims around Mbiama in Ahoada West before the victims were released.

Probe of Saudi prince urged over Bezos phone hack

UN human rights experts have demanded an immediate investigation into allegations Saudi Arabia's crown prince hacked Amazon boss Jeff Bezos's phone.

They said Mohammed bin Salman should also be investigated for "continuous, direct and personal efforts to target perceived opponents".

A message from a phone number used by the prince has been implicated in a breach of Mr Bezos's data.

The kingdom's US embassy has denied the "absurd" story.


But the independent UN experts - Agnes Callamard, special rapporteur on summary executions and extrajudicial killings, and David Kaye, special rapporteur on freedom of expression - said the crown prince's "possible involvement" had to be investigated.

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Mr Bezos - who also owns the Washington Post - worsened after Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent critic of the Saudi government and one of the newspaper's staff, was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.

The killing took place months after the alleged cyber-hack took place.

Mr Bezos's phone was hacked after he received a WhatsApp message in May 2018 that was sent from the crown prince's personal account, according to the Guardian newspaper, which broke the story.

An investigation into the data breach reportedly found that the billionaire's phone began secretly sharing huge amounts of data after he received the encrypted video file.
