Prince William and Kate Middleton laugh off awkward Prince Harry jibe at BAFTAs 2020

The BAFTAs saw some of the most well-known faces in the industry flock to the Royal Albert Hall as they celebrated the best of film in the last year. There was even royalty in attendance as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were notably in the audience. However, the couple were forced to laugh off a joke from Brad Pitt’s acceptance speech.

Brad Pitt was awarded Best Actor tonight but unfortunately was unable to attend the prestigious ceremony.

He wasn’t at the awards tonight due to “family obligations” but still drew the attention of the guests after his speech took aim at various attendees.



In his place to accept the gong was Margot Robbie, who starred alongside him in Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood as Sharon Tate.

However, even despite his absence, the critically-acclaimed actor managed to stir things up for those in attendance.


During the speech, he seemed to make reference to his romantic links to Jennifer Aniston as well as Brexit.

Another thing that raised eyebrows in the speech was a reference to Prince Harry.

Margot told the audience Brad had special plans for his award as he made an obvious reference to the royal family.

“He says he is going to name this Harry because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him. His words not mine."
Viewers at home couldn’t help but comment on the awkward moment as the camera panned to the royal couple.

One wrote: “Loved that zoom into Kate and Will after the Harry joke. #banter #BAFTAs.”

Another echoed: “Okay props to the BBC for cutting to William and Kate after the “Harry” joke #BAFTAs.”

“Kate laughing her head off at that Harry joke #BAFTAs,” commented a third.

NAPTIP arrests Lebanese human trafficker

A Lebanese has been arrested by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for alleged trafficking of Nigerian women to s.e.x slavery in Lebanon.

The Nation gathered that the yet to be identified Lebenese was arrested on Thursday following revelations from rescued Omolola Ajayi who was lured to Lebanon with deception that she would go there to teach English language.

It was learnt that victims of the suspect were also subjected to labour exploitation in that country.


Confirming the arrest, NAPTIP said a press conference would be held on Tuesday for further details to be provided.

Atokolo said the agency also foiled a baby sale deal and arrested the seller.

“The Commander, NAPTIP Lagos, Daniel Atokolo will be on hand to speak to the facts of the case at the press conference. The conference will also feature a moderated question and answer session with the Commander and the suspected trafficker,” the agency said.

Gunmen on bikes kill 20 civilians in Burkina Faso

As many as 20 civilians have been killed in an overnight attack in north-western Burkina Faso.

Unidentified heavily armed men on motorbikes carried out the attack on a village in Bani municipality, north of the capital Ouagadougou, on Saturday night, AFP news agency says.

The attack comes a week after 39 people were killed when militants attacked a market in Silgadji town.

The Sahel region has seen an increase in jihadist violence in recent months.

News of Saturday's attack came as France announced it would send a further 600 soldiers to the Sahel region, bringing the total number of French troops to more than 5,000.

South London attacker had been freed from prison

A man shot dead by police after he stabbed people in south London had been released from prison in January.

Sudesh Amman, 20, was released around a week ago after serving half of his sentence of three years and four months for terror offences.

He was under active police surveillance at the time of the attack on Streatham High Road, which police believe to be an Islamist-related terrorist incident.

Three people were injured but none are in a life-threatening condition.


Scotland Yard said officers were searching addresses in south London and Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries continue at pace," the Metropolitan Police said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the government would announce further plans for "fundamental changes to the system for dealing with those convicted of terrorism offences" on Monday.

He said the government had moved quickly to introduce measures strengthening its response to terrorism, including longer prison sentences and more money for police, following the attack at Fishmongers Hall, near London Bridge, in November.

China set to open speed-built coronavirus hospital

China is set to open a new hospital in the city at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak, as the numbers of people infected continue to grow.

Wuhan's 1,000-bed Huoshenshan Hospital, built in just eight days, is one of two dedicated facilities being constructed to help tackle the outbreak.

China is struggling to deal with the virus, with more than 17,000 confirmed cases and 361 deaths.

Sunday saw the first confirmed fatality outside China, in the Philippines.


The patient was a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan who appeared to have been infected before arriving in the Philippines.


Many countries have barred foreigners arriving from China and are quarantining their own citizens.

Latest figures from China's National Health Commission on Monday revealed that, alongside the confirmed cases, there were:

21,558 suspected cases
152,700 people "under medical watch"
475 people discharged from hospital
There have been more than 150 confirmed cases of the virus outside China.

Beyonce and Jay-Z were spotted sitting throughout the National Anthem at the Super Bowl - a big no-no in America.

The power couple were at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami with their daughter Blue Ivy, eight, as the San Francisco 49ers took on the Kansas City Chiefs.

In a video posted by TMZ, the Carters can be seen sitting down as Demi Lovato belts out their nation's anthem.

The Flag Code states that everyone present when the National Anthem is being sung should stand and face the flag, if there is one.


Civilians are expected to stand with their right hand over their heart, while military personnel in uniform and veterans should salute throughout.



Sitting during the National Anthem is seen as disrespecting the flag.

Jay-Z and Beyonce were sitting together a few rows back from the field.

A man, who is thought to be their bodyguard, is said to have stood for the anthem while they remained sitting down next to him.

The video pans around the stadium to show that everyone else is on their feet.

DJ Khaled was seen stopping by to say hello to the couple after the Anthem was over.

Okada, tricycle ban: Lagos to inject 65 new buses today

The Lagos State Government says it will inject 65 new buses on Lagos roads from today to cushion the effect of the ban on okada and tricycles riders.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement on Sunday hailed motorcycle and tricycle operators for complying with the restriction from six local government areas, major highways and bridges.

“The level of compliance was over 90 %. In fact, some of the ride hailing companies directed their riders to obey the directive. This is commendable. The high level of compliance has shown that Lagosians agree with the government on the need to stop the danger that commercial motorcycles and tricycles have become – a big threat to safety of lives and security of our people. They should stand firm in supporting the government.


“The little discomfort experienced by commuters on some routes due to the absence of motorcycles and tricycles is noted. This will not last as alternatives are being rolled out.

“A fleet of 65 buses will join the others on some major routes as from Monday , February 3, 2020: No less than 550 more buses are being expected. Besides, 14 ferries will be commissioned on Tuesday. This will further open up the waterways, reduce travel time on various routes and provide safe, dependable and comfortable alternatives for commuters,” he said.

Omotoso said government was not unaware that enforcing this directive might lead to some job losses, saying that the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, planned to announce some measures to tackle the likely effects of the order, besides the programmes of various agencies, such as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Office of Civic Engagement, Lagos State Parks and Gardens and others.

Pastor Adeboye reacts to US visa restrictions on Nigerians

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reacted to the visa restrictions placed on Nigerians by the United States.

It was reported that the United States imposed visa restrictions on Nigerians and five other countries’ nationals, saying “Nigeria presents a high risk, relative to other countries in the world, of terrorist travel to the United States”.

The US also said Nigeria did not adequately share public-safety and terrorism-related information necessary for the protection of the national security and public safety of the US.


Although Nigeria is the only country in West Africa sanctioned by the US Department of Home Security, other countries on the list are Eritrea, Myanmar, Tanzania, Sudan and Kyrgyzstan.

Adeboye, who made his reaction known on Sunday during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving Service at the church’s National Headquarters in Ebute Meta, Lagos State, also led his congregation on a prayer walk, in accordance with the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria, which had, in an effort to strengthen the nation’s security forces in the fight against insecurity, declared a three-day fasting and prayers to end with a prayer walk today, February 2.

Adeboye said, “Some countries have banned Nigerians from coming into their territories. We pray for the restoration of our nation. Lord, have mercy on Nigeria. Let there be peace and security in Nigeria. God sees all things and knows where the terrorists are hiding. We pray that God sends His light to Nigeria and expose the evildoers in the country.”

He added, “It is written that if my people who are called by my name can humble themselves and call on me, I will heal their land” making reference to 2 Chronicles 7:14.

The cleric also prayed that God uproots all the sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria.

Pamela Anderson and Jon Peters have separated after tying the knot just 12 days ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The former “Baywatch” star has asked for a “break.” “I have been moved by the warm reception to Jon and my union,” said Anderson, 52.

Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa's decision to not fly in a helicopter together was 'not fear based' according to reports in US media.

The 41-year-old NBA icon had come to a pact with his wife that they would "never fly on a helicopter together."

Following the tragic crash in Calabasas, California which killed Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna along with seven others, there have been questions as to whether there was 'a fear' there was a problem, which meant Kobe and Vanessa kept themselves apart.

A source has dismissed this, telling People that the couple "always considered what was best” for their daughters.


They went on to say that Kobe and Vanessa's choices were not "because you are concerned something will happen, it’s just a precaution.”

The source added: "The decision to not fly together was not fear-based. It was a decision that they made because they felt it was the best for their family.

"As very family-focused parents, they always considered what was best for the children.


"This is why Kobe started flying in the first place. He wanted to make sure he could work and be the best dad possible."

Kobe had started using helicopters after being stuck in Los Angeles traffic which led him to miss a school play.

The father-of-four told Alex Rodruguez in 2018 that after the frustrations with the traffic, he “had to figure out a way where I could still train and focus on the craft but still not compromise family time.”


Kobe continued: “I was sitting in traffic and I wound up missing like a school play. So that’s when I looked into helicopters, to be able to get down and back in 15 minutes and that’s when it started."

A friend close to the Bryant family told People previously: “He was a very hands-on dad and, like any other father, saw such bright futures for all of his daughters.


"He was so proud to see them take after not only him and Vanessa, but also grow into their own.

"He had a special bond with each of his daughters.”

10-year-old girl dies after anal s.e.x with 16-year-old boy in Aba

One Paul Ikwecheghi, 16, has allegedly killed a 10-year-old girl after having ana| s.e.x with her in Aba.

According newsmen, the deceased who hailed from Nkporo, in Ohafia council area, was said to have been taken away from her residence at No. 51 Emeonye Street by the suspect, a 16 year old boy called Paul Ikwecheghi who defiled her.

She was paralyzed after the incident and was receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital until she died. However, before her demise, she identified Paul as the culprit ― leading to his arrest by the Police.


A resident of the area said,

“We discovered Paul took the little girl from her parents’ residence to the place he perpetrated that [ana| s.ex] act.

“I learnt he consumes tramadol. After the incident, the girl became paralyzed and identified Paul as the culprit. The family took her to the hospital while the Police arrested Paul.

“The little girl wept until she died on Wednesday while receiving medical attention at the hospital. The damage done to her anus was too much. Paul is still with the police and I don’t know if there’s anything going on that case because no one has heard about it.”

Bride charging guests 'entry fee' to wedding so she can get back money she spent

It's no secret that people spend a lot of money when planning a wedding - but it doesn't have to be that way as the couple is in complete control of how much cash they splash on their big day.

If you can't afford to have a lavish ceremony and reception, that's ok, you'll just have to budget, or save until you can have the day you want.

One bride-to-be isn't keen on this idea though and wants to get back all the money she's spending on the wedding very quickly.

And it seems she may have come up with a rather cheeky way to do just that.


A wedding guest has taken to social media to reveal that her cousin is charging people a $50 entry fee to attend (that's around £39).

The guest explains how they are a student and can't afford to throw money around - so they probably won't be able to go to the wedding now.

In a post on Reddit, the person said: "Cousin's wedding is on Sunday, we're not really close, but we do have an okay relationship.

"She made an announcement this week saying that she'll be charging 50 dollars for every guest who's coming.

"She said they can Venmo her the money so there won't be no problems and everyone who paid will be added on to the 'exclusive guest list' which basically means you won't have to wait in line while other guests pay."

They continued: "Once I read this I was shocked. Responding asking why and she said she wanted to get the money she spent on her special day back.

"I told her I wouldn't be able to come because this was outrageous and that I wish her well on her special day. She contacted my aunt and my aunt called me cheap and rude.

"My parents offered to pay for my entry, but I refused. Now everyone thinks I'm being ridiculous."

The guest then asked fellow Reddit users if they were in the wrong.

Over 2,000 people replied to the post, with many agreeing that it was the bride who was acting terribly.

One person commented: "Who the f**k charges people to attend their wedding?"

A second wrote: "Seriously!! This is beyond tacky."

"I wonder if the people who do pay will still give them a gift - I'd love to see the bride's reaction when she collects $50/person but misses out on $50-200/person gifts, lol," joked a different user.

Someone else said: "This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It is in no way customary to charge people an entry fee for a wedding. If she couldn't afford her wedding without charging the guests to attend she should have had a smaller wedding."

Police confirm killing of doctor's wife kidnapped in Kaduna

Wife of a Kaduna based medical doctor, who was kidnapped with her two children last Saturday, has been killed.

The Nation gathered the kidnappers after killing Mrs. Ataga and dumping her body at a location have asked her husband for N20 ransom to free his two children still with them.

Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the killing of Mrs. Ataga, describing the development as unfortunate.

Dr. Ataga’s family members were abducted in the early hours of Saturday 25th January during the invasion of the dreaded kidnappers of Juji community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state.


The kidnappers, who were said to have engaged security operatives in a serious gun battle, killed a member of the community’s vigilante group.

They later broke into the Atagas’ home and whisked away Mrs. Ataga and two children.

The Nation gathered that the abductors had demanded N150 million ransom for the release of Mrs. Ataga and the children and negotiation was still on before they killed her.

Rapper sentenced to 99 years in prison for paying hitman to murder his mum

A Chicago rapper has been sentenced to 99 years in prison after paying a hitman to murder his own mum so he could have access to her bank accounts and life insurance.

Qaw’mane Wilson AKA “Young QC” was found guilty of the murder-for-hire last year, and yesterday was sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Yolanda Holmes was shot then stabbed to death by hitman Eugene Spencer after he was ordered by Wilson to “make sure the b*tch is dead.”

Only-child Wilson hired a hitman, Eugene Spencer, to kill his mother so he could have access to her accounts in 2012.


The rapper used the money to flaunt in his music videos and would often give out thousands of dollars to his fans.

Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks said during the sentencing that Holmes was a devoted mother who gave her son anything he wanted.

“Whatever he wanted, his mother gave to him. A car. A job. One could say he was spoiled.

“She gave Qaw’mane life, and it was his choice to take it way from her,” Judge Sacks told the court yesterday.

In a lengthy trail, the court heard how hitman Spencer drove with Wilson’s girlfriend to the rapper’s mum’s apartment in 2012.

He shot Ms Holmes as she slept in her bed, then struggled with her boyfriend, knocking him unconscious, before returning to stab Holmes after a phone conversation with Wilson, who ordered him to “make sure the bitch is dead.”

Wilson later collected the money in his mother’s bank accounts, and in the months after her death used the cash to customise the Mustang she had given him with gull-wing doors.

The Chicago Sun Times reports the 30-year-old was sentenced yesterday to serve 99 years in prison over the death of his mother.

Myanmar flies citizens home, away from coronavirus China

The government of Myanmar has flown home dozens of citizen-students from the coronavirus-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan early Sunday, government officials said.

The group of 59 will be quarantined for 14 days in a hospital in Myanmar’s second-largest city, Mandalay, Than Than Myint, a spokeswoman for the health ministry, said.

Four others stayed in Wuhan, she said.

“Two… had a high fever, so the Chinese government kept them in Wuhan,” she said by phone.


A statement by the ministry of foreign affairs said that of the other two, one student who was due to fly home had already left Wuhan by other means and the other had “defied China’s immigration regulations” and could not leave.

The students had been holed up with dwindling food supplies in the city of 60 million, which is in virtual lockdown.

“Honestly, I have one big potato and three packs of instant noodles and some rice,” Si Thu Tun, one of 60 students from Myanmar trapped in Wuhan, told the online news outlet the Democratic Voice of Burma last week.

Myanmar has no confirmed cases of the coronavirus, which first emerged in China’s central province of Hubei and has infected more than 14,000 people since, mostly in and around Hubei.

Authorities in Myanmar turned back a China Southern flight from Guangzhou on Friday after one passenger was found with flu symptoms similar to those of the fast-spreading coronavirus.

Myanmar cannot test for the virus in-country and is sending samples from suspected patients to neighboring Thailand, which takes about a week for results.

DELSU final year student drown in river (photos)

A Delta State University final year student, Precious Omordia has died.

He was said to have gone to swim at the Okotie river around 1,30pm yesterday before meeting his sudden death. He drowned.

Precious was at the river with three other friends, a male and two females.

According to reports, his friends fled without raising alarm after seeing what happened.


But when his hostel mates didn't see him for hours, they became worried and a search led to his discovery at the river. His father was informed and his corpse was retrieved and taken to Agbor.

His friends have now taken to social media to mourn him, with one of them saying, he has known precious all his life, writing ''RIP biggest brother''. Their tributes...
