OkadaBan: Riders, traders threaten NO SECOND TERM for Sanwo Olu

Following the recent ban of Okada and tricycles on Lagos state’s highways, bridges and expressways as directed by the state’s Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a group of angry protesters has vowed not to vote for the governor if he bids for a second term in office.

In an interview with a correspondent from LEGIT.ng, an angry Okada rider warned the governor, stating that they might be a possible increase in crimes if an alternative is not given for those who lost their jobs.

He said; ”Have you heard? Tell your governor Sanwo-Olu, You will start something else in Lagos, You can’t just ban us, we don’t have an alternative You say there are thieves in Lagos, yet you ban those who want to earn their daily bread.. there are graduates amongst us, there will increased crime rate in Lagos, I assure you. A word is enough for the wise”.

A trader also spoke on the ban, threatening that she wouldn’t vote for the next election. She said; ”We walked from the abattoir to Agege, from Agege to Ikeja! Why? You the government are making us suffer immensely. Please for God’s sake,  have mercy on us. We wouldn’t vote! Stupid vote!”.

Another trader pleaded with the government saying; “Hello, Thank you. Our Governor we are begging you, there are graduates amongst these Okada/Keke riders and that’s how they fend for themselves. I took a bus from Iyana Ipaja to Ikeja and had to pay N500 which use to be N150″.

A Keke rider who withheld his name clamoured for justice and a better alternative for the riders. He lamented the consequences of the ban.

He said; ”What have we done to deserve this? you said there are thieves amongst us, then catch the thieves and prosecute them. Why do we have to pay for their sins? I was an artisan but no sales before I became a rider. We stood by Sanwo Olu during his election only for him to stab us in the back. What job would you give us? No job or else there will be trouble” he threatened.

Actress Shannen Doherty reveals she has stage 4 cancer

Actress Shannen Doherty is facing a major health battle. Appearing on ABC News Tuesday, the 48-year-old actress said she now has stage 4 breast cancer.

"It's going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I have stage 4," Doherty said. "So my cancer came back and that's why I'm here."

The "Beverly Hills 90210" star announced in 2017 that she was in remission for breast cancer that had been initially diagnosed in 2015.

For more than a year now, Doherty said, she has been quietly battling cancer again, even while continuing to work, including filming the "Beverly Hills" reboot, "BH90210."

She was dealing with the devastating news while mourning the death of her former "90210" costar Luke Perry in 2019.

"It was so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was seemingly healthy to go first," she said. "It was really shocking and the least I could do to honor him was do that show. I still haven't done enough in my opinion."

She continued: "It's a hard one because I thought when I finally do come out, I would have worked and worked 16 hours a day and people can look at that and say, 'Oh my God, she can work and other people with stage 4 can work. Our life doesn't end the minute we get that diagnosis. We still have some living to do."

Doherty said she is having trouble processing that the disease returned.

"I don't think that I've processed it," she said. "It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways. I definitely have days where I say, 'Why me?' And then I go, 'Well why not me? Who else? Who else beside me deserves this?' None of us do. I would say that my first reaction is always concern about how am I going to tell my mom, my husband."

She has been married to photographer Kurt Iswarienko since 2011.

Brother of Manchester Arena bomber is 'just as guilty as sibling who killed 22'

The younger brother of the Manchester Arena bomber is "just as guilty of the murder of 22 people" as his sibling, a court has heard.

On May 22, 2017 Salman Abedi, 22, killed himself and 22 other people by detonating an explosive device at an Ariana Grande concert.

Today the trial of his brother Hashem Abedi has begun.

It is alleged that the 22-year-old helped him plan the suicide attack.

A jury was sworn in at the Old Bailey in London on Monday.

On Tuesday Abedi appeared in the dock of court number two accompanied by three security officers, wearing a dark blue shirt, dark trousers and glasses.

Senior prosecutor Duncan Penny QC outlined the case for the Crown.

He described how Abedi's brother detonated a "large home-made improvised explosive device - a bomb" in the public foyer of Manchester Arena at a concert by Ariana Grande.

The lawyer said the bomb was "packed with shrapnel, contained in a rucksack on his back".

"The effects of the resulting explosion were both sudden and lethal," Mr Penny said.

The lawyer said 22 people were killed, 28 people were very seriously injured, a further 63 were seriously injured.

He added that 111 others were also taken to hospital.

He said: "In all, 237 were physically injured in addition to those killed, whilst a total of 670 people have since reported psychological trauma as a result of these events."

He said police have identified "nearly 1,000 victims".

Mr Penny said Abedi had assisted and encouraged his brother.

Abedi allegedly obtained chemicals for a home made bomb; got metal containers to construct it; found an address in Manchester to manufacture the explosive and store it and bought screws and nails for shrapnel.

In mid-April 2017, he also purchased a Nissan Micra to store bomb-making equipment, the court heard.

Mr Penny said: "The Crown's case is that this body of evidence suggests that the defendant in this case - the surviving brother - is just as responsible for the crimes that resulted in so much death, serious injury and damage following the detonation of the bomb by his dead brother."

The lawyer said the bomb was "self-evidently designed to kill and maim as many people as possible".

He added: "The law is that Hashem Abedi is just as responsible (as his brother) for this atrocity and for the offences identified in this indictment."

The trial, which is being heard before Mr Justice Jeremy Baker, is expected to go on for up to eight weeks. The trial, which is being heard before Mr Justice Jeremy Baker, is expected to go on for up to eight weeks.

Pakistan woman bravely cuts off pen!s of man who broke into her home to r.a.p.e her

A woman in Pakistan has cut off the pen!s of a man she accused of trying to r.a.p.e her, police said today.

The 25-year-old woman used a knife to defend herself from the assault of a man who stormed her house in the central province of Punjab, police official Mohamed Ilyas said.

The woman told police she was alone at home when the man broke in and tried to overpower her.

The woman then ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and then cut off his pen!s when he again tried to assault her, Ilyas said, citing the woman’s account.

The 28-year-old man was being treated at the hospital in the city of Faisalabad and will be interrogated once his condition improves, Ilyas added.

Hundreds of women are r.a.p.e.d in Pakistan each year, but those who commit the assaults are rarely punished due to weak laws and complicated procedures for prosecution, according to Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

Rape victims are often blamed for their assaults, accused of socialising with men – something frowned upon in conservative Muslim societies – or of bringing the attack on themselves.

Many women remain silent and decline to file a police report to avoid being named and shamed by Pakistan’s conservative society, advocacy group Aurat Foundation said.

“It is a painful situation. Often victims are blamed both by the legal system and the society,” women’s rights activist Farzana Bari said.

MURIC alleges there's a Christian version of Boko Haram

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)’s president Professor Ishaq Akintola has reacted to the arrest of a suspected suicide bomber, Nathaniel Samuel, an alleged Christian, after a failed attempt on Bishop David Oyedepo’s church in Kaduna state on Sunday.

According to him, the failed attempt is an indication that there is a Christian version of Boko Haram.
In a statement released last night, MURIC president, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said the arrest of Nathaniel Samuel after attempting to bomb the Sabon Tasha branch of Living Faith Church aka Winners chapel, made a mockery of the rally organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the same day.

According to Akintola, the rally was called to protest against the rising insecurity in the country but ”God works in wonderful ways as he exposed another plot by a fellow Christian to bomb a church on the same day that CAN called for the rally, ” he said.

Turkey unites in solidarity with Nigeria's Mikel Obi in response to racist abuse

Turkish citizens flocked to social media late Monday leading to the hashtag "#WeStandWithObi" trending across Twitter in support of Trabzonspor's Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel against racial slurs the latter incurred after Sunday's match with arch-rival Fenerbahçe.

The club released a statement later in the day condemning racist attacks against the midfielder.

"Racism is a safe haven for the ignorant and the weak. We hereby condemn the racist abuse lodged against our player Obi Mikel after the Fenerbahçe match and would like to inform the public that we have filed criminal complaints against the perpetrators," the club said.

After the match, in which Fenerbahçe was dealt a huge blow, Obi became a target of racist abuse, his Instagram profile receiving scores of racist messages including use of the N-word and banana emojis.

China admits 'shortcomings and deficiencies' over Coronavirus

China's top leadership has admitted "shortcomings and deficiencies" in the country's response to the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

The rare admission came from the Politburo Standing Committee, which called for an improvement in China's emergency management system.

It also ordered a "severe" crackdown on illegal wildlife markets - where the virus is thought to have emerged.

The death toll has risen to 425, with more than 20,000 confirmed cases.

"In response to the shortcomings and deficiencies... we must improve our national emergency management system and improve our abilities in handling urgent and dangerous tasks," the report said.

"It is necessary to strengthen market supervision, resolutely ban and severely crack down on illegal wildlife markets and trade."

The government's initial handling of the outbreak has been widely criticised.

Officials have been accused of downplaying the severity of the virus at the start of the outbreak and in some cases, attempting to keep news of it secret.

One doctor in Wuhan who tried to warn his fellow colleagues about the outbreak late last year was accused of "making false comments" and told by police to stop the "illegal activity".

It was only later in January that the government ordered the virtual lockdown of Hubei province, where the virus is believed to have originated.

Pregnant lady dropped off by yahoo boys reportedly goes mad in Imo state

Sympathisers tried helping her immediately they noticed she was behaving abnormally.

She was also not seen with her underwear. An eyewitness said;

“She was dropped by some strange boys in a vehicle, she started behaving strangely and we suspected she might have been dropped one of these ritualists because she was not having her undies on as she tried to free herself from the sympathisers who held her.” She was later taken to a nearby church for spiritual assistance.

Mo'Nique comes for Oprah Winfrey again... ''you make my life harder'', she says

It's been years since Mo'nique and Oprah Winfrey's feud began and it shows no sign of slowing.

In the latest development, Mo'Nique is once again calling out the talk show host for what she claims is a "disparity" in the way she treats the people around her. In her lengthy "open letter" to the talk show host, posted to Instagram, she reveals she "felt compelled" to write to her after seeing the way Oprah allegedly treats people "who were accused of the same" crimes.

Mo'Nique then shares she watched Oprah's interview on CBS This Morning, in which Norah O'Donnell asked her about Harvey Weinsteinand she responded that she tries to find the "silver lining" in every situation.

"You also said 'if we make this all about Harvey Weinstein then we have lost the moment'," Mo'Nique adds, going on to point out Oprah's perceived hypocritical decision to produce a #MeToo documentary on Russell Simmons. "When you either are, or were going to be a part of documentary on Michael Jackson, and Russell Simmons, how is that not making it all about them?"

"Interestingly, Brother M.J. was acquitted, and deceased, so how is he not off limits? Russell and Harvey are accused of the same thing so in fairness how do you not 'support' the accusers of both, as you said you did with R.S., or [did] you look for the silver lining for both, like you said you did for H.W.?" she continues.

Then, Mo'nique seems to accuse Oprah of being racist when she states that the "only difference between the two is their skin color" and the fact that there are "way more" people who accused Weinstein of allegedly sexually assaulting them.

Mo'Nique then shares her "personal experience" with Oprah. "You've watched me as a black woman, be accused of being difficult for not promoting Precious internationally for Lions Gate, at Lions Gate, Tyler Perry and your request, despite the fact my deal was with Lee Daniels Entertainment," she explains. "How are you for black women when you hear Tyler on audio saying I was right and he was going to speak up but you or him still haven't said a word?"

The Precious star shares that when she first met Oprah at the age of 16, she told the talk show host she wanted to be "just like" her, only to be told, "You have to work really really hard." The comedian adds, "My sixteen year old self didn't know that you in your silence in the face of wrongdoing, would make my life 'harder.''

Coronavirus: Scientists hoping to treat symptoms with existing antiviral medications

There is no cure for the deadly Wuhan coronavirus, but several big biotech companies are hoping they can treat the symptoms with existing antiviral medications.

Gilead Sciences, a biopharmaceutical firm with an experimental drug called remdesivir that is used to treat the Ebola virus, said late Friday it is working with Chinese health authorities to see if the medication can combat the symptoms of coronavirus.

The company said in a statement that remdesivir has demonstrated some success in treating MERS and SARS, two viruses similar to the Wuhan coronavirus, in animals.

Remdesivir has also been used for emergency treatment of patients with Ebola. But the drug has not yet been officially licensed or approved for treatment by any global health organization, Gilead added.

Investors were nonetheless encouraged. Shares of Gilead (GILD) rose more than 5% Monday.

Gilead is not the only drug firm hoping to find a successful treatment for the coronavirus. Big Pharma rivals Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) are also working on vaccines.

Biotech company AbbVie (ABBV) has said that they have seen promising results for treating the Wuhan coronavirus with a mixture of two of its HIV medications and Tamiflu, which is produced in a joint venture by Swiss pharma giant Roche (RHHBF) and Japan's Chugai Pharmaceutical Co (CHGCY).

In the police report, obtained by TMZ Sports, Ricco claims Floyd's security team "pushed him away from Mayweather" while Floyd yelled at him, "I'll beat your ass."

At one point, Ricco says if he gets his ass kicked by Floyd, "I'll get all your money too!"

Floyd says, "You can get this ass-whooping for free."

According to TMZ, at no point in the video exclusive to them, did Floyd ever get physical. It's just trash talk as he gets in his waiting SUV.

OkadaBan: Jimi Agbaje reacts

Jimi Agbaje, the People’s Democratic Party’s 2015 and 2019 gubernatorial election candidate for Lagos state has reacted to the ban of Okada (motorcycles) and Keke napep (tricycles) on highways, bridges, and expressways as directed by Lagos State government.

Agbaje opined that proper planning is needed in Lagos but banning Okada and Keke abruptly has negative effects, especially to the commuters.

He tweeted: “A Lagos City state for the 21st century needs proper planning. The reasons for the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) and motor tricycles (Keke Marwa) by the Lagos State Government are noted. But what about the people?

“My view is that such an outright ban on major routes will be counterproductive and difficult to enforce. It will also have negative ripple effects on the economy with so many already out of work & cause inconvenience to commuters.”

He added: “The formal operators that have thus far regulated themselves should be allowed to continue, with stringent regulation & enforcement of traffic laws.”
