Private jet business booming over coronavirus fears

Wealthy travelers are clamoring to fly private jets amid the rapid spread of the highly contagious coronavirus, according to a report.

Private jet operators have seen a recent boom in business since the late December outbreak of the virus in China.

“While a large portion of the increase can be related to Chinese New Year travel, we also attribute the growth to customers preferring a private flight rather than a commercial option during a delicate time affected by the coronavirus outbreak,” said Ian Moore, chief commercial officer of VistaJet.

Darin Voyles with Paramount Business Jets said there’s been a “considerable uptick” in prospective clients, including those looking to return to China.

But the Australia-based firm can’t take on the majority of the requests, he said.

“Aside from the risk of exposure for the crews, the operational and business concern is that when they return from mainland China, they will essentially be unable to work for two weeks as they will have to go into quarantine immediately,” Voyles told the BBC.

Some of the clients are people stranded as several airlines have grounded flights in China in addition to authorities restricting travel in high-risk areas of the epidemic.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and China Eastern Airlines are among the carriers that have suspended flights over the virus, which has spread to more than 73,000 people across the world.

Rapper Pop Smoke shared his address on Instagram hours before he was killed

A rapper who was shot dead in Los Angeles accidentally shared the address of the house where he was staying on Instagram, it has been revealed.

Brooklyn-born drill artist Pop Smoke was murdered at a property owned by Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp, daughter of 80s singer John Mellencamp.

On the night of his death, the rapper, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, shared the address of where he was staying on Hercules Drive, Los Angeles, in a since-deleted video on his Instagram story.

The 10-second clip showed his AMIRI bags with the address of the property on a label on them.

In another picture shared on his Instagram, a house number can be seen behind him and his friend, as they posed in front of a Range Rover.

The Airbnb profile for the house shows a large swimming pool with spectacular views over the city of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County Police say that an unknown number of armed men broke into the house at around 4.30am local time (12.30pm UK time), some wearing masks and hoodies.

A police source told local media that a man in a ski mask was seen running down Hercules Drive just after the shooting.

No one has yet been arrested for the killing.

Pop Smoke was rushed to hospital in West Hollywood in an ambulance but sadly died from his injuries.

Prankster who faked coronavirus on train faces 7 years in jail

A man who stunned commuters by pretending he had coronavirus on a packed train has had his charge upgraded and could now face up to seven years behind bars.

The prankster is charged with premeditated hooliganism, after the incident on the Moscow Metro.

Smartphone footage filmed by accomplices show a masked Karomatullo Dzhaborov falling to the ground on a packed carriage and pretending to have a ‘coronavirus attack’ in full view of stunned commuters.

As some passengers try to help him, suddenly one of Dzhaborov’s friends screams “coronavirus”.

Within seconds, the carriage quickly empties at the next stop.

According to local media, the police initially charged 25-year-old Dzhaborov and his friends with hooliganism for the stunt.

However, prosecutors have reportedly upgraded the charge and he could now face up to seven years in prison for the prank.

His lawyer Roman Shakhmantov said: “He is no longer accused of simply hooliganism, but now premeditated hooliganism.”

LOL. WHO CARES? THAT SCREAM COULD HAVE CAUSED A STAMPEDE AND A LIFE COULD HAVE GENUINELY BEING LOST.

''Donald Trump offered pardon to Julian Assange over Russia email leak testimony''

Donald Trump offered WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange a pardon if he said Russia was not involved in the leak of Democratic National Committee emails, a court has heard.

The claim emerged as Assange, 48, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court ahead of an extradition hearing next week.

His barrister Edward Fitzgerald QC highlighted evidence alleging former US Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher had been to see Assange, while he was still in the Ecuadorian embassy in August 2017.

He said a statement from Assange's lawyer Jennifer Robinson shows "Mr Rohrabacher going to see Mr Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr Assange... said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks".

But the White House Press Secretary flatly denied the reports.

Stephanie Grisham said in a statement: "The President barely knows Dana Rohrabacher other than he's an ex-congressman.

"He's never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject.

"It is a complete fabrication and a total lie. This is probably another never ending hoax and total lie from the DNC."

Bandits invade another LGA in Niger, kidnap scores of people, rustle cattle

Over 60 gunmen have invaded Madaka village and some neighbouring communities in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, kidnapping scores of people and rustling cattle. The gunmen were said to have invaded the communities in the early hours of yesterday, fully armed.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that as the gunmen arrived the communities in motorcylces, they started shooting sporadically to scare residents, as they looted homes and shops.

“Beside looting the shops and houses, not less than 100 herds of cattle were rustled, while some villagers were also kidnapped.

“The gunmen also forced those kidnapped as informants to lead them from house to house to attack other residents and ended up looting their houses, carting away cash and other properties.

“They also used those kidnapped as shields to make it very difficult for the local vigilantes to attack them and what we later discovered is that the gunmen were headed towards Allawa in Shiroro Local Government Area,” the witness said.

He could not immediately disclose if any life was lost but disclosed that men of the Nigerian Air Force quickly rose to the occasion, as they flew swiftly to the communities to bombard the bandits and protect the villagers.

The Director General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, confirmed the attack. “It is unfortunate that there was an invasion on another local government area in the state this morning (yesterday) but I don’t have the details yet,” Inga said.

Woman who slept with 130 men before realizing she was battling 's.e.x addcition'

A woman whose s.e.x addiction spiralled to the point she slept with four men in a day says she 'couldn't function' unless she knew when she was going to get 'my next hit of s.e.x'.

Hook ups began to consume Frankie Considine's life, taking precedence over her work and friends, but also placing huge strain on both her physical and mental health.

The now 28-year-old suffered with depression, multiple s.e.xually transmitted diseases and fell pregnant with no idea who the father could be, before eventually being diagnosed with s.e.x addiction.

Frankie would call in sick at her job and cancel social plans to ensure she was having s.e.x every day, leading to her sleeping with more than 130 men.

Having initially not known she was struggling with a recognised mental health condition, she believes her craving stemmed from dealing with her parent's divorce and her difficult relationship with her body.

Her parents split up when she was 13, and Frankie told The Sun she would go online to talk to people for attention.

When s.e.xual attention came, she 'clung onto it' and lost her virginity when she was 14 before going into a long-term relationship, where she was unable to stay faithful.

It began to spiral out of control a few years later when her mum died from cancer, which she described as 'life-shattering', as reported by The Sun.

She dropped out of university and had the attitude 'let's go crazy', sleeping with 80 men in the next three years, saying she used the intimacy that came with it to replace the loss of her mum.

At one point she slept with four men in 24 hours, but it wasn't enough to make her stop.

"It was like that little quick fix - but I got so hooked on it," she said.

“One weekend in 2012 I went to Brighton for a 21st birthday. I met one guy, he came to my hotel room and we had s.e.x. The following day I had a mechanic out to look at my car. I ended up sleeping with him and his friend, and later on that night I slept with someone else."

Frankie never used any form of protection, including the pill, contracting the HPV warts virus and chlamydia twice in 2013.

Even when she began counselling for depression, men were still regularly visiting her home for s.e.x and she fell pregnant when she was 22.

She didn't know who the father could be and made the difficult decision to have an abortion - a moment which proved to be a 'wake up call'.

Before that she said she was 'in a bubble', and the consequences of her lifestyle resulted in her drastically reducing the amount of s.e.x she was having.

In 2014, she began an on-off relationship with a man she met on Tinder and fell pregnant before giving birth to a girl in 2018 - which she said was 'very much planned'.

The relationship ended when their daughter was six months old and Frankie began to visit a new therapist for help before being diagnosed with s.e.x addiction at 26.

"The relief was incredible," Frankie says. “Talking about it with my therapist, I realised none of it was my fault... I reckon there are loads of other people like me out there but they are too nervous to come forward."

She believes there's a lot of stigma around being a s.e.x addict, saying others think it's an excuse, but needs to be more widely accepted as a 'genuine illness'.

Frankie now uses EMDR, which helps people overcome the effects of psychological trauma, and is determined not to let her past hold her back.

She says she's found new coping mechanisms, including exercise and meditation, and is dating again in the hope of finding love.

Nigerian boxers to stage protest after missing Olympics qualifier

Nigeria boxers have threatened to protest the country’s non-appearance at the qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Dakar, Senegal from February 20 to 29.

One of the boxers, who spoke with Punch on the condition of anonymity, said the Nigeria Boxing Federation told them that they would not participate in the Olympic qualifiers because there were no medal hopefuls.

“They said the same thing at the African Games, that we were not competent to win any medal, but out of the 10 boxers Nigeria took, we won seven medals – one gold, one silver and five bronze medals,” he said.

According to him, while the federation is complaining of lack of funds,

He accused the federation officials of embarking on a trip to Cameroon that had no positive effect on the boxers, despite complaining of paucity of funds.

“Before this situation, some people went on a jamboree to Cameroon just for exhibition, no competition and they shared the money there. These boxers travelled on the road for three days, spent just one day there and they came back and gave each of the 12 boxers that went $350. They shared the N12m among themselves, the three of them (officials) that went.”

He said the boxers would gather at the National Stadium, Lagos on Thursday (today) to protest their non-participation in the qualifying tournament.

Bride punches sister-in-law for turning their wedding into chaos, but husband defends sister and breaks up with wife

A bride's dream day quickly turned into a nightmare when she was dumped by her new husband for punching his sister at the reception.

The newlywed was seeking advice on how to win her partner back after admitting she had lost control when her sister-in-law made the day a 'living hell'.

The bride claims she had 'strolled in drunk, threw up on the gift table', and stole money given to them by other guests while attempting to clean up the mess she had made.

To top it all off, she proposed to her boyfriend, who said no.

As her patience wore out, the bride lashed out and revealed that she had punched her sister-in-law as a result of her drunken antics.

Rather than focusing his own frustrations on the chaos his sister had caused, the husband instead chose to break things off with the woman he had vowed to spend the rest of his life with just hours before.

After the post was shared on Twitter, many people chipped in with their own opinions on the soap-
worthy drama, with some questioning why she would want her husband back at all.

One wrote: "He did you a favour. Call a divorce lawyer."

Another replied: "Win him back? Do you really feel like you were wrong? Are you sure you want to marry into this family? Consider this divine intervention."

A third said: "Win...him back? Sis, I want you to reread the type of family you just married into and then ask us again what exactly are you trying to 'win' here. Focus on getting this marriage annulled."

Others saw it a very different way, as one argued: "You should have never EVER put your finger on his sister.

"That’s someone he loves and needs. You’ve made him pick between you and his family. You need to apologise and stay away from her."

Another backed up the stance, saying: "I mean she was wrong as hell but you can’t punch your sister in law."

Man who ‘tested’ daughter’s virginity awaits judgment

The courts have been busy with cases of men alleged to have criminally sought sensual pleasure from their daughters.

Yesterday the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court fixed April 30 to deliver judgement in the case of a 37-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Emmanuel Idoko, accused of s3xually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter by testing her virginity with his fingers.

Justice Sybil Nwaka fixed the date after prosecutor Jide Boye and defence counsel Adeyemi Adegbite presented final written addresses, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

While testifying for the prosecution on March 5, 2019, Dr Oyedeji Alagbe, a medical consultant with the Mirabel Centre, a s3xual assault referral facility, narrated what the complainant had revealed to him during her medical examination.

Alagbe said, “The client declared in her history that her father, though not married to her mother, had her and her male sibling living with him.

“Her ordeal started in 2016, a year before she was referred to the Mirabel Centre.

“She said her father came home and said that he heard from people that she was no longer a virgin and he needed to test her to see if it was true.

“He forced her to undress and said he will use his finger to test her. The client was reluctant, but he scolded her and eventually did it with his fingers.

“He also said that he would use his manhood to examine her and she refused. He beat her and he subsequently started torturing her in the home because she kept turning down his requests.”

Idoko, while testifying in his defence on November 21, 2019, denied putting his fingers in his daughter’s private part to test her virginity or seeing her n3ked.

“My daughter is following bad friends, my neighbours said all sorts of things about her. I initially did not believe it until I saw it myself.

“On November 21, 2017, I saw my daughter with some boys while her brother was in the house watching television. When I called her name, the boys ran away and I asked her to tell me who her boyfriend was.

“When I tried to beat her, she tried to fight me like those friends of hers who beat up their parents.

That was the reason I beat her that day,” he said.

According to the prosecution, Idoko committed the offence of sexual assault by penetration between July to November 2017 at his residence located at Akewusola St., Oworoshoki, Lagos.

Also, an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court yesterday remanded a 50-year-old traditional medicine practitioner, Felix Okon in Kirikiri Correctional Service for allegedly defiling his two underage daughters.

Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka who issued the order said Okon will remain in custody pending legal advice.

Okon lives in the Ipaja area of Lagos.

Prosecutor Christopher John told the court that Okon committed the offence in August 2019 at his residence.

John alleged that Okon caused his two daughters, aged 16 and 14 to drink alcohol before defiling them.

He said the matter was reported at the police station and the defendant was arrested.

Chief Magistrate Nwaka did not take Okon’s plea, and adjourned the case until March 18.

CAN leaders march for Leah Sharibu as she spends two years in captivity

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday held a church service and a peaceful march to mark the second year of Miss Leah Sharibu in Boko Haram captivity.

In Abuja, CAN President Rev. Samson Ayokunle and the Senior Pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Center, Dr. Paul Enenche, warned that killings in the country could lead to anarchy.

Leah along with over 100 girls were forcibly abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from their hostel at the Government Girls Science Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State February 19,2018. Though her mates were later released, she was held back for refusing to renounce her Christian faith. There were reports late January that she had given birth to a boy.

The Yobe Christians, who came out in large numbers, prayed to God for the release of the young girl and later staged a peaceful protest from the EWCA Church to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Damaturu.

They carried placards with different inscriptions condemning the deteriorating security in the country and calling on President Buhari to ensure the protection of lives and property.

The protesting Christians sent a message of hope to Leah and others in captivity, including Muslims and remembered Mr. Bitrus Zakka from Adamawa State, who was recently murdered by Boko Haram.

The state CAN Chairman Rev. Fr. Philibus Yakubu, said the Christian community in the state is still hopeful for the release of Leah .

“They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you. Yahweh declares to rescue you,” he quoted Jeremiah 1:19.

At a news conference in Abuja to mark the second year of Leah’s abduction, Rev. Ayokunle and Enenche said since the Federal Government was not unaware of the killings in the country, it must take urgent steps to defeat Boko Haram.

They said it was a shame for a government that has an Army, Air force and Navy to allow the level killings going on its territory

“The development is a shame and there is a cloud of confusion that hangs over the nation and the people that are governing this nation are not doing the right thing,” they lamented.

Rev. Ayokunle, who was represented by CAN Vice-President, Caleb Ahima, said: “CAN has been calling and talking to the government and I think it(government) is obvious of the persistence of this evil.

“We are sure of one thing. We cannot doubt that the government knows what is happening. Looking at the fact that we are a nation, we have the Airforce, the Navy, we have the soliders, we have the weapons, but what is happening in this nation?

“We call on the Federal Government again that we are getting to a point of anarchy. It is the constitutional responsibility of government to protect the lives and property of its citizens. But, where this looks to have been ignored. We have every reason to be suspicious and to speak passionately to government again that Christians in this nation are Nigerians and must not be killed.

Some victims of Boko Haram were presented with relief materials.

Mother of 12 delivers self of quadruplets in Kaduna village without health care

“I have been going through serious pains and stress. It’s not easy.”

It certainly cannot be easy for the speaker, Zainab, aged 30, who recently gave birth to quadruplets in a Kaduna village without help from anyone. And the mother of 12 never went for antenatal.

Makwalla village in Igabi, Kaduna State, where Zainab lives, lacks the necessary facilities and the distance between her and the nearest health centre, added to poor transportation, made her abandon medical check-ups during all the pregnancies she had carried over the years.

These factors, she pointed out, also denied her the services of a counsellor to help with child spacing.

Zainab told Vanguard: “I have been giving birth to twins in this village without going for any medical checks. This time I delivered all four kids at my husband’s house without any assistance from anyone.”

She groans: “I have gone through serious pains, stress and, indeed, its not really easy giving birth to these four kids in a village without any support. But to God be the glory, I am fine.

“I always used traditional medicine and other drugs from local vendors, whenever I feel pain in my body.”

The same goes for the rest of the over 800 inhabitants of Makwalla for any ailment. Zainab said she chose to give birth at home because the nearest hospital is far away, and she can only reach it via commercial canoes and then Okada.

She added that most of the women in the village would welcome child spacing, but that there was no one to counsel them on how to do it.

Two soldiers, tapper, farmer killed in ‘herdsmen’ attacks

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have struck again in Plateau State one month after separate attacks left many dead in several communities in the state.

On Sunday the assailants attacked Sector Five of the Special Task Force, Operation Save Haven (OPSH), killing two soldiers and injuring one at X-Land in Barkin Ladi Local Government area of the state.

An eyewitness in the area, who preferred anonymity, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the  soldiers who were angered by the incident gave the community two days to fish out the attackers.

The eyewitness further said the enraged soldiers raided the area and burnt down many houses.

The burnt houses largely belonged to the Fulani settlers in the community, it was gathered, and the army also made some arrests during the raid.

“On Sunday, gunmen attacked soldiers of the Sector Five, killed two personnel and ran into the houses of Fulani settlers living here in X-Land,” the source said.

“Soldiers had a meeting with the Fulanis and told them to provide the culprits but they failed to, and on Tuesday soldiers raided the community.

“They burnt down many houses, over 100 and arrested some persons.”

Spokesperson of the task force, Maj. Ibrahim Shittu offered no information on the incident beyond a text message, which said: “I have seen your text, will get back to you on it, please”.

Police spokesman Obah Ogaba,  confirmed the incident.

“It is true that gunmen ambushed security personnel of sector five, opened fire on them,  killed two soldiers and injured one,” he said.

“The issue of burnt houses is not the key matter, but soldiers are attacked and two were killed and this is the major concern here,” he said.

In Edo State, a palm wine tapper and a farmer, Onne Owoh and Samuel Imonkhai were also killed by suspected herdsmen at Owan village in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

Owoh and Imonkhai were separately killed on Wednesday.

The attackers shot Owoh dead where he was tapping his palm while Imonkhai was hacked to death.

Residents of Owan community and others like Agbanikaka, Uhiere, Odiguetie and Odighi have appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki and security agencies to stop incessant and unprovoked killings.

The Odionwere of Owan community, Pa Ifiabor Michael, said the communities have have been besieged by suspected herdsmen who have ravaged farmlands and killed many inhabitants.

Pa Micheal said eight persons have been killed across these communities since February, 2020. Police spokesman Chidi Nwabuzor  could not be reached for comments.

Migration: We may impose tough visa rules on Nigeria - EU

The European Union says it can impose restrictive visa implementation rules on Nigeria, if it fails to play its part in the return and readmission of its nationals staying illegally in the EU.

The EU, which comprises Germany, Italy, Spain, France and 23 other countries, further stated that although it would not place a visa ban on Nigeria, it could make its visas more difficult for Nigerian applicants if Nigeria failed to meet its standards.

The EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms Virginie Battu-Henriksson, said this in an email chat with The PUNCH on Tuesday.

Recall that the United States had last month imposed immigrant visa ban on Nigeria and five other countries.

Under the new policy, citizens of the affected countries would not be allowed to apply for visas to emigrate to the US under the policy aimed at tightening “security for countries that don’t comply with the US minimum security standards or cooperate to prevent illegal immigration.”

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Nigeria presents a high risk, relative to other countries in the world, of terrorist travel to the US.

The US further stated that Nigeria did not adequately share public-safety and terrorism-related information, which is necessary for the protection of the national security and public safety of the US.

Following the US action, the Federal Government set up a committee headed by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, to ensure that Nigeria meets requirements the US said were not in place.

On February 5, the committee met with the US Consular General in Abuja with a view to addressing issues raised in the visa ban.

On Tuesday, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Mary Lenoard, explained that the visa ban was not permanent, adding that it was subject to review if certain conditions were met.

But while Nigeria is struggling with the US visa ban, the EU said it could impose restrictive visa implementation rules on it.

When asked if the EU had challenges Nigeria was trying to resolve with the US, Battu-Henriksson said Nigerians still placed among the top 10 nationalities detected as staying irregularly in the EU even though the number of Nigerians travelling irregularly to the EU had dropped.

She said Nigerian criminal networks remained active in the EU.

The EU spokesperson said, “Nigerians still place among the top 10 nationalities detected as staying irregularly on the EU territory, although the number of Nigerians entering the EU irregularly declined drastically last year.

Borno declares a day of fasting over Boko Haram attacks

Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has asked the people of the state to fast on Monday, February 24, 2020, for the defeat of Boko Haram.

He said this in a six-minute broadcast to the people of Borno State on Wednesday.

The governor said, “Even though this decision is based on the popular demand of our people, some observers may rightly argue that it is a strange call. But then, Borno has been befallen with a strange evil since 2009, and sometimes strange ailments require strange approaches.

“As your governor, I hereby declare Monday, the 24th of February 2020, as a day of devotion to pray for the return of peace in Borno. I intend to fast on that day and I appeal to every one of us in Borno, who can, to join in that simple, but pricelessly rewarding spiritual endeavour. I also appeal for the sacrifices of all other well-meaning friends and associates of Borno who can, to join us in fasting on Monday, insha’Allah, for the restoration of peace in Borno State and rest of Nigeria.

“I urge all of us to be steadfast in prayers. But in doing that, we certainly do not need to congregate in open fields for dramas.”

When asked if the EU had challenges Nigeria was trying to resolve with the US, Battu-Henriksson said Nigerians still placed among the top 10 nationalities detected as staying irregularly in the EU even though the number of Nigerians travelling irregularly to the EU had dropped.

The EU spokesperson said, “Nigerians still place among the top 10 nationalities detected as staying irregularly on the EU territory, although the number of Nigerians entering the EU irregularly declined drastically last year.

“Nigerian criminal networks remain active in Europe, and Nigeria remains the main non-EU country of origin for victims of trafficking (mainly women) registered in the EU.”

When asked if the EU would be giving Nigeria the “American treatment”, she said Nigeria could face a restriction if certain criteria were not met.
