Indian Prime Minister to welcome Trump with Mega rally today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to welcome his US counterpart Donald Trump to India with a massive rally on Monday, kicking off a two-day visit likely to be more about pomp and ceremony than concrete agreements.

The American president, in his first official visit to India, will deliver a speech at the world's biggest cricket stadium at a "Namaste Trump" rally watched by at least 100,000 people in Modi's home state of Gujarat.

The rally comes in the wake of the wildly successful "Howdy, Modi" extravaganza in Houston last year that highlighted the bond between the nationalist leaders.

A visit to the Taj Mahal with the First Lady Melania is on the cards, followed by talks with Modi in the capital New Delhi on Tuesday.

"The president is going to India as a demonstration of the strong and enduring ties between our two countries," a senior US administration official told reporters ahead of the trip.

"This has been exemplified by the very close relationship between the president and Prime Minister Modi."

There were fevered preparations by workers in Gujarat's capital Ahmedabad on the stadium, where construction has yet to be completed and which officials said would be inaugurated at a later date rather than by Trump.

Across the city, giant cutouts of Modi, Trump and Melania were on display alongside national flags.

Thousands of posters with the words "world's oldest democracy meets world's largest democracy" and "two strong nations, one great friendship" were erected every 10 metres (around 30 feet) along Ahmedabad's major roads.

Trump meanwhile tweeted Sunday that he was looking "forward to being with my great friends in INDIA!" alongside a video showing his face imposed on hero "Baahubali" in one of India's biggest blockbusters of the same name.

Police arrest notorious burglar in Ikorodu, recover stolen items

Policemen from Ikorodu, Lagos, have arrested a serial burglar, Ganiu Solomon and recovered some stolen items from him.

The spokesman of the Lagos State police command, DSP Bala Elkana, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect was arrested following complaints of burglary and stealing by residents of the Ota Ono area of Ikorodu.

He said: “All the complaints received followed the same ‘modus operandi’, suggesting the fact that the crime was perpetrated by the same syndicate.

“One of such cases was reported earlier by one Ms. Nkiruka Ezeokobe of Mojisola Sari Street, Ota-Ono, Ikorodu, where the suspect passed through the ceiling to gain entrance into her home.

“Items recovered from the suspect were one Samsung phone valued at N235, 000 and one gold necklace valued at N150, 000 among other items.”

Elkana said the suspect confessed to the crime and investigation was ongoing to ensure that other members of his gang are arrested.

Blue passports to be issued to Brits for the first time in decades next month

Blue passports will be issued for the first time in almost three decades from next month to mark Britain’s departure from the European Union.

Championed by Brexiteers, the new-look documents will replace the burgundy passports which were rolled out in 1988.

The contract to produce the passports was controversially awarded to French firm Thales, but the documents will continue to be personalised with the holder’s details in the UK.

The first new passports will be issued from the beginning of March, and by mid-2020 all new passports will be blue, the Government anticipates.

As well as the colour change, the back cover of the new passports will now feature embossed floral emblems of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The new passports are said to be the greenest and most technologically advanced yet, with new and updated security features to keep personal data secure.

Blue passports were first used in 1921, and remained the colour of choice until the UK joined the EU (then the European Economic Community) and a change to burgundy was later agreed to harmonise designs across member states.

Burgundy passports can still be used for travel until they expire.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said that by returning to the ‘iconic’ blue and gold design, the passports will ‘once again be entwined with our national identity’.

She said: ‘Leaving the European Union gave us a unique opportunity to restore our national identity and forge a new path in the world.

‘By returning to the iconic blue and gold design, the British passport will once again be entwined with our national identity and I cannot wait to travel on one.’

Several students killed in Indonesia flash flood

At least eight students have been killed and two others are missing after a flash flood hit a high school group who were hiking along a river on Indonesia's main island of Java, a rescue official has said.

About 250 students were trekking on the banks of the Sembor River in Donokerto village in Sleman, Yogyakarta on Friday when high waters pulled some students in, drowning them.

"Rescue team personnel have found eight bodies and are still looking for two more that are still missing," said Yogyakarta Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) head Lalu Wahyu Effendi on Saturday, as cited by the Jakarta Post.

The group was not aware of the changing weather conditions upstream and developing thunderstorms, according to a National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson.

"Students were doing scout activities around the Sempor river," Agus Wibowo, spokesman for the BNPB, said in a statement.

A local military chief told TVOne that most of the bodies were found a short distance down the Sembor River from the site of the flood. He said a downpour burst the river's banks, causing the flood.

He said 239 students were rescued, including 10 who were treated for injuries.

Air strikes kill key ISWAP leaders in Borno, says NAF

Some key Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) leaders have been killed by airstrikes at Jubillaram and Alinwa in the Northern part of Borno State.

A statement by the Nigerian Air Force Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola on Saturday, said the strikes were conducted by the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole, under the auspices of Operation Rattle Snake 3.

He explained that based on credible intelligence reports indicating that some key ISWAP leaders had assembled for simultaneous meetings on Thursday; attack aircraft were dispatched to engage the locations, damaging the meeting venues and killing the terrorists.

“The latest of these was achieved on 20 February 2020 in attacks conducted at Jubillaram and Alinwa in the Northern part of Borno State, where some key Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) leaders were neutralized as they assembled for meetings at the 2 locations.

“The mission was executed on the heels of credible intelligence reports indicating that some key ISWAP leaders had assembled for meetings, which were being held simultaneously at 2 separate venues, at Jubillaram and Alinwa in Marte Local Government Area.

“Accordingly, the ATF scrambled its attack aircraft to engage the locations, damaging the meeting venues and neutralizing the terrorists,” he added.

The Air Force spokesman stated that both land and air forces will sustain its campaign against terrorists in the North East.

I’m not afraid of prison, says Zuma after medical trip

South Africa’s graft-accused former president Jacob Zuma returned home on Saturday after a month-long trip to Cuba for medical treatment and declared he was not afraid of prison.

Zuma, 77, was slapped with an arrest warrant earlier this month after his lawyers claimed he was too ill to travel back to South Africa for a pre-trial hearing on corruption charges.

A high court issued the warrant after it questioned the authenticity of his sick note, but said it would not be executed until the case is set to resume on May 6.

A crowd of people gathered at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo international airport to welcome Zuma, the former ANC leader who ruled South Africa from 2009 to 2018.

“I am not afraid of prison,” Zuma told his supporters in Zulu before being ushered out of the arrivals hall.

He raised his thumbs and grinned from behind a pair of dark glasses as a singing crowd gathered around him.

Zuma is alleged to have taken bribes of four million rand (about $267,000) related to a $3.4 billion arms deal in 1999 when he was deputy president.

In all, he faces 16 charges of fraud, graft and racketeering related to the purchase of fighter jets, patrol boats, and military equipment.

The arrest warrant was just the latest twist in a case that has seen many legal turns over the past decade and a half.

Critics have dubbed Zuma the “Teflon president” for his reputed ability to evade judicial reckoning.

He has also been accused of orchestrating the systematic plunder of government coffers during his rule in a scandal known as “state capture”.

“(Zuma) has always respected the courts,” supporter Carl Niehaus told reporters before the ex-president’s arrivals.

“There is no need to vilify him and try and turn him into a fugitive of justice.”

Little has been disclosed about the current state of Zuma’s health or the type of treatment he has been receiving.

He was forced to step down in 2018 by the ruling African National Congress (ANC) after a nine-year reign marked by corruption allegations and dwindling popularity.

Italy suspends Serie A football games over coronavirus fears

Italy's top football league has postponed three matches scheduled for Sunday in the northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto after the deaths of two people infected with the coronavirus.

On orders from the Italian government, the Serie A games between Inter Milan and Sampdoria, Atalanta and Sassuolo as well as Hellas Verona and Cagliari were called off.

Three other matches in Genoa, Turin and Rome on Sunday were due to go ahead as scheduled.

A dozen towns in northern Italy effectively went into lockdown on Saturday after the deaths of two people infected with the coronavirus and a growing cluster of cases with no direct links to the origin of the outbreak abroad.

"The government is working on urgent measures to decisively confront and contain the cases of coronavirus contagion," read a letter from Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora to Italian Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malago shortly before midnight local time on Saturday.

"Following measures taken by the cabinet for protective reasons and maximum precaution, on orders of the government, I am asking you to suspend all sports events of every level and discipline planned for the Lombardy and Veneto regions on Sunday," the letter said.

Quarantine questioned as japan woman tests positive after leaving ship

Japan on Sunday confirmed the first case of a former Japanese passenger of a coronavirus-stricken cruise ship testing positive for the disease after initially receiving a clean bill of health.

More than 20 foreigners evacuated from the ship have also tested positive after returning home.

The cases raise questions about the effectiveness of the quarantine on board the ship and fears for the nearly 1,000 former passengers allowed to move freely around Japan.

The woman in her 60s returned to her home in Tochigi prefecture north of Tokyo by train after disembarking the Diamond Princess Wednesday, but she developed fever and tested positive on Saturday.

Further fuelling criticism of the Japanese government measures, Health Minister Katsunobu Kato was forced to apologise after it emerged that 23 passengers were released without even being tested during the quarantine for the virus that has affected more than 130 in Japan.

“There has been a judgement that those who disembarked after testing negative had no problem, but it has now become clear that those people can turn positive,” Tochigi governor Tomokazu Fukuda told reporters, urging “additional measures” to contain the spread.

From Wednesday, Japanese authorities allowed passengers who had been in quarantine on board since February 5, tested negative, and showed no symptoms, to disembark, recommending only they limit trips outside and wear a mask in public.

Around 970 passengers were released under these conditions, according to local media.

A further 100 former passengers, who had been in close contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus, have disembarked for quarantine on land.

Still left on the ship are some foreigners waiting for special charter flights home and some 1,000 crewmembers — most of whom were not placed in isolation as they were needed to operate the Diamond Princess.

Critics suspect they were inadvertently spreading the virus throughout the ship, which saw more than 600 cases of the potentially deadly COVID-19 disease.

Protest as SARS officer kills Remo Stars captain

There is palpable tension in Sagamu town, Ogun State, following the alleged killing of a footballer, Tiyamiyu Kazeem, the Assistant Captain of Remo Stars Football Club, a Nigerian National League side, by policemen attached to the State Anti-Robbery on Saturday afternoon while returning home from the club’s weekend training session in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Eyewitness accounts at the scene of the incident alleged that the footballer, popularly known as Kaka, was allegedly chased by the SARS operatives before he was shot.

“The SARS operative labelled him as a Yahoo boy and started chasing him. Even when people who know him intervened and told them he is a footballer, they refused to let him be.

They chased him until they shot him, wounding him fatally,” an eyewitness claimed. After shooting him, the officials ran away, leaving Kazeem to his fate. He was later rushed to Fakoya Hospital, Sagamu, by sympathisers, where he was pronounced dead.

The Remo Stars Football club announced Kazeem’s sudden passing away on their official Twitter handle. The Nigerian National League side stated that they are doing everything to investigate the cause of his death.

“We regret to announce the departure of our assistant captain and defender, Tiyamiyu Kazeem (Kaka). The club is doing everything possible to investigate his ultimately death. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Angry residents took to the streets across the town to protest the murder of the footballer who many described as talented and hard working.

A close friend of the deceased, Bolaji Soluade, who spoke with our correspondent, confirmed his untimely death and blamed the SARS operatives for the incident.

According to him, one of the officers was apprehended by residents after the shooting but was rescued by other policemen before the mob could do him much harm.

Youths in Sagamu went wild with rage when the news filtered to them that the young man who was earlier in the day arrested in Sagamu alive without resistance, and taken to Abeokuta, was allegedly shot dead later by the police halfway into their journey to Abeokuta.

It was learnt that quick intervention of senior police officers who moved in quickly to douse the tension saved Sagamu from turning into chaos.

Zimbabwe’s ex-minister publicly fights dirty with Prophet Bushiri, accuses him of impregnating his wife

Zimbabwe’s former deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Terrence Mukupe has accused popular preacher and General Overseer of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of impregnating his wife.

The former minister accused the Prophet of sleeping with his wife Rachel J while on tour in both South Africa and Malawi.

He also called him a fake prophet and demanded his contribution towards his church be returned to him, Here's his Facebook  call out...

“I’m coming after you. I want the R100,000 that we seeded to your fake church back ,false prophet!“I want you Bushiri to deny that you met her three times in Lilongwe, Pretoria and your Rustenburg place with my blessing – me buying the plane tickets and you offering to go into business with us with Honourable Chihana from Malawi in tow. Deny it and we will see who serves a true God.”

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri however issued a strongly worded statement denying the claims. The Pastor who stated that he is not on Whatsapp and iMessenger, also threatened to sue the former Minister if he does not retract his allegations.

Prophet Bushiri however denied this on his instagram page, and wrote;

''It is not in my nature to respond to allegations levelled against me. However, it has come to my attention that Terence Mukupe, a disgraced former deputy minister in Zimbabwe has made false allegations that I am responsible for his wife’s pregnancy. The basis of his allegations are screenshots of chats and messages purportedly between me and his wife.

For the purposes of clarity. I am not on WhatsApp. Neither am I on iMessenger. This has been the case since late 2017. Those with access to me will know this. Those who do not, please stand guided, I AM NOT ON WHATSAPP or iMESSENGER.

I have not been for 3 years.Secondly, I have not traveled out of South Africa in the last 13 months, and therefore have not met this man’s wife in Malawi as he believes. This ought to be public knowledge. Thirdly the contact number in his pictures is NOT mine and has never been mine. Therefore whoever was speaking with this man’s wife isn’t me.

Given all this, it is therefore impractical and impossible for his allegations to be materially true. The bible teaches us to forgive and ignore, but there also comes a time when those that make defamatory and highly damaging allegations about others must face the music of their choice. As you may know, since 2019 I have been suing every newspaper that carries fake stories about me. This is on record.

I have been suing and winning, and media house after media house has been apologising and paying damages for their lies. It is a strategy that has become policy.I therefore call on Terence Mukupe to respect his wife, his marriage and his children.

For him to tell the whole world that his wife was impregnated by another man paints him in bad light but also opens his wife to all forms of abuse.

A man has a duty and obligation to protect his wife and Terence must not open her up to abuse and name calling. I call on him to respect my family and everyone else. These false allegations stay on the internet forever and will harm many lives. If they were true it would make sense. But these are lies.

To sue him, win and take money from him would be unfortunate, as his already doing all this to me for money. Sir, fear God!''

After Bushiri's denial, Terrence fired back sharing screen shots of his chats with his wife. He wrote too;

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, so you have decided to go public on this… no problem… if that’s not you in that pic be my guest… I’m coming after you… if that’s not your mobile you were using for WhatsApp be my guest… you can’t be taking advantage of people like that… I want the R100k that we seeded to your fake church back… false prophet!!!

As you said your lawyers are ready to sue please deliver the summons I’m waiting… I want you Bushiri to deny that you met her three times Lilongwe, Pretoria and you Rustenberg place with my blessing, me buying the plane tickets and you offering to go into business with us with Hon Chihana from Malawi in tow… deny it and we will see who serves a true God!!!

The Kaduna State Government said, it has nabbed a suspected fake Medical Doctor, Saidu Ahmed Ya’u, who has been in the employment of the state for 11 years.

The State Ministry of Justice has charged Ya’u before the Chief Magistrate court for certificate forgery and impersonation.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Justice, which was signed by the Attorney General of Kaduna State, Aisha Dikko, said that the accused has been remanded at the Kaduna Correctional Facility until March 16.

Diamond Princess passenger dies of coronavirus

British couple David and Sally Abel, from Northamptonshire, are struggling with mental health in a Japanese hospital after cruel online trolls accuse them of 'milking it'.

The pair who were on the cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary, have both been diagnosed with pneumonia before being moved to a hospital.

It comes as a Japanese man in his 80s from the coronavirus-infected Diamond Princess has died, bringing the death total from the cruise ship to three.

The health ministry confirmed the death on its website, days after an elderly couple also died.

The government is facing growing questions about whether it is doing enough to stop the spread of the virus, which originated in China and has killed more than 2,400 there. Tokyo is preparing to host the 2020 Summer Olympics in July.

Health Minister Katsunobu Kato said he would hold a meeting of experts on Monday and formulate a basic policy for addressing the disease on Tuesday.

Kato apologised on Saturday for allowing an infected woman to leave the Diamond Princess, which has been quarantined in Yokohama since Feb. 3.

The woman came ashore on Wednesday but then tested positive for the disease on Saturday in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo.

Kato said on Saturday that officials had failed to properly test 23 people who disembarked the ship, and his ministry was trying to contact them to be retested.

The ship is owned by Carnival Corp and was originally carrying some 3,700 passengers and crew representing more than a dozen nationalities.

Some nations have flown their citizens home to undergo additional quarantines. Japanese authorities have allowed some other passengers to leave, prompting concerns they could be spreading the virus in Japan.

There have been 634 infections on the ship, according to national broadcaster NHK. Those cases represent the largest concentration of the illness outside China.

Banker's wife impregnated by her children's lesson teacher... husband kicks

Felicia Adikwu, a Jukun by tribe, is right now in a dilemma. She is pregnant for her children’s extramural studies teacher, popularly called “lesson teacher” in Nigeria and, she doesn’t know what to do about it. She is full of regret for her ill-advised action that is now threatening to tear her marriage apart.

The young woman who holds a diploma in Public Administration from the state polytechnic, got married to Mr. Joseph Adikwu, a holder of HND in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. He used to work with a bank in Lafia where they both live before he was transferred, sometime last year, to the bank’s branch in Gombe State. Their nine-year-old marriage is blessed with two kids, aged 7 and 5.

From transfer to trouble

But trouble started when sometimes in July 2019, Joseph resumed duty in Gombe but left his family behind. Before he left Lafia for his new posting, he and Felicia, his wife had employed the services of an extramural teacher, one Monday Ugo, to teach their kids extra lessons in their commitment, to give them the best of education. And things appeared to be going on smoothly, as planned until Joseph left for Gombe.

Somewhere along the line, Monday allegedly changed the period of the lesson from 5:30 pm to 4 pm. This became imperative because the children, it was said, usually had one-hour church activities from 4 pm to 5 pm. While they are away, Monday and Felicia would allegedly use the period to engage in sex romps.

The first sexual encounter they had was said to be so mind-blowing that it left the woman panting for more. But right now, she is said to be four-months pregnant for Monday. And, her husband who has learnt about it, in fact, who literally forced the information out of her through the threat of divorce, is seriously angry over the ugly development. Narrating his ordeal, recently, to a close friend who happened to be a police officer, Joseph, who is in Lafia on annual leave, explained how shocked he was to meet his wife in such condition.

Mr. Adikwu’s lamentation

He could not remember impregnating her within the period nor, discussing with her any issue related to pregnancy all the time he was in Gombe, he said. Pleading for understanding and forgiveness, Felicia said that her husband’s absence made her succumb to sexual advances from the teacher. But her husband has vowed not to forgive her over what he sees as a blatant act of betrayal.

Expressing his disappointement over the ugly development, Joseph said: “I came back on leave only to find my wife pregnant for my children’s lesson teacher. This has torn my world apart, completely. Words cannot describe my agony, my own wife confessing before me that she is four-month pregnant for a jobless lesson teacher?” he lamented with a tinge of bitterness in his voice.

Then he adds: “It is the cruelest betrayal in my entire life. My wife is a big disappointment and I don’t think I will forgive her. I felt utterly duped and cheated when she opened her mouth and told me that my absence made her seek sexual satisfaction and it resulted in this. It is an embarrassment to me and to think that this happened just after few months of my absence! You mean, my wife could not endure and decided to find another man just for sexual satisfaction? I hate myself.”

Felicia explains how she became entangled in the love affair

But while Felicia remains remorseful over the issue, she insists that it is not as straightjacketed as her husband is trying to make it looks. In fact, the woman who, at the moment, is taking refuge in her husband’s close friend’s house for fear of the unknown puts the whole blame on Joseph who she alleged was in the habit of starving her of sex.

Her story: “My husband was in the habit of coming up with excuses on why he could not have sex with me before he left for Gombe. He and I had not had intercourse for quite some time before he was transferred. Anytime I confronted him on this, he would tell me that he was too busy in the office or tired from work to have sex. Anytime we discussed our sex life, he would find an excuse to give on why it cannot be then but next weekend or after he was through with a particular project he was handling. But those deadlines would come and go without him fulfilling his promise or commenting on why he did not. Things continued this way until he left for Gombe.

“Before he left, I stopped trying to initiate sex with him because the constant rejection was also affecting my psyche or self-image. Other than sex, my husband and I are on the same page on almost every aspect of our lives, and we truly enjoy each other’s company. I love him so much. He is my best friend as well as my lover. I made a mistake. I feel so guilty. I’m deeply sorry for all that happened. I did not mean to do this and I am ready to abort it. I was even planning to do so before his coming but a close friend advised me to convince him that he is responsible. It was while I was trying to give the idea a thought that I delayed the abortion. Then my husband came back to discover it.”

On how she became entagled in the love tango with their children’s “lesson teacher,” she said: “I saw myself falling in love with him out of my desire for sex. I needed to admit this because by so doing, who knows, the Lord can touch my husband’s heart to forgive me.

It was actually the devil’s work and I completely accept my fault but my husband shouldn’t have gone public with the matter. I’m ashamed of myself. The incident came to light after the pregnancy started coming out and my husband raised a lot of questions as to who is responsible as both of us had not had sex for some time now. I didn’t know how it happened.

All I can say is that the young guy who is my children’s lesson teacher suddenly found his way into my room at the wee hours and I was speechless. I can’t believe I have done this to my husband. This is one thing I said I would never do. I never thought I would cheat. I love my husband so much and I don’t know what to do. Please, help me plead with him to forgive me.”

Lesson teacher’s confession

Monday, a graduate of Physics from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, who is now on the run for fear of his dear life, debunked the claim by Felicia about suddenly finding him in their bedroom and not knowing what to do except to agree to sleep with him. He told Saturday Sun correspondent, on the phone that he noticed a look of admiration in Felicia’s eyes that showed that she was interested in having sex with him. And, this is what he exploited when the opportunity came calling.

His words: “I noticed that she started admiring me the moment I began to teach her children. I noticed her interest in me when she started calling me regularly on the phone to ask me not to eat before coming to her house for the lesson teaching as she had prepared food for me. She actually lured me into having sex with her after convincing me that her husband had stopped sleeping with her for quite some time before leaving for Gombe.

She assured me that nobody would know about it. It is unfortunate that she became pregnant. But when she told me about it, we all agreed that she should abort it but her close friend who connected me to teach her children kept advising her to convince her husband into accepting responsibility for the pregnancy. I know that I have wronged the man. I don’t know how to face him. He has been paying my allowance for teaching his children without delay. I betrayed his trust and, I pray that God will forgive me.”
