5 year-old girl left fighting for her life after knocking deep fat fryer oil on to herself while playing with her sister

A five-year-old girl was left fighting for her life after knocking over a deep fat fryer and burning 38 per cent of her body.

Grace Shaw was playing with her younger sister Farrah when she fell and pulled the contents of the cooker - which were as hot as 375F - all over herself on April 28, 2016.

She went into shock from the searing pain and but was quickly covered in a damp towel by her father Gary Shaw, at their kitchen in Talbot Green, Wales.

Mr Shaw called Grace's mother Toni-Marie Grundy-Jones, who was working in a restaurant five minutes away from their home.

Ms Grundy-Jones said Grace was shaking and screaming 'I'm dying, I'm dying' when she rushed home, and the parents then drove her to A&E.

The mother claims the incredible care Grace received from staff at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital - situated just minutes from their home - saved her daughter's life.

'Without their fast-thinking and reactions my daughter wouldn't be here now,' said Toni-Marie.
'As soon as she arrived at the hospital she was sedated and prevented from going into full-blown shock. If we'd had to travel any further to hospital I believe she would have died.'

The emergency unit is currently being considered for closure by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board due to severe staff shortages.

Recalling the horrifying incident, Toni-Marie said: 'Before I had gone to work I had put the deep fat fryer on and cut some chips ready to put in it.

'After the chips had been made I had put the fryer to cool on the counter. It had been turned off for about 20 minutes when the accident happened.'

When Gary arrived at the doors of A&E with Grace cradled in his arms, Toni-Marie said they were taken straight into a side room where they were surrounded by medical staff.

They were fabulous. We had eight doctors and five nurses all around her,' she said.

'Grace had to be ventilated and sedated before being taken by ambulance to Bristol Children's Hospital.'

For the first 13 hours of arriving in Bristol, Grace's parents were unable to see her as doctors carried out emergency skin grafts and tried to stabilise her condition.

'She had burns to her head, half her back, her left and right arm. She also had splashes on her legs and feet,' said Toni-Marie, who now lives in Llanharry.

'The only thing that wasn't affected was her torso.'

Grace spent three months in Bristol before she was discharged, and now has regular appointments at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery at Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

'The staff in Bristol were so fantastic that we've even named a teddy after one of the doctors,' said Ms Grundy-Jones.

Grace, now nine, who loves dancing and the mobile app Tik Tok, is flourishing against the odds.

'Apart from a little tuft at the top, she's lost most of her hair which will never grow back as the burns were so deep it killed the tissue,' her mother said.

'But even if she does decide to wear a wig it's normally off within five minutes. She's retained her confidence and always manages to smile.'

Protests have taken place against plans to either shut to Royal Glamorgan's A&E entirely or reduce its opening hours to the daytime only.

Both the public and politicians claim downgrading such a busy department could have dire consequences for people in immediate need of treatment, such as Grace.

Ms Grundy-Jones said the hospital staff were crucial in saving her daughter's life.

Nicki Minaj’s husband arrested, indicted for failure to register as s.ex offender

Nicki Minaj’s husband’s past is coming back to bite him in the ass — he’s been arrested by U.S. Marshals on an indictment for failing to register as a s.e.x offender … TMZ has learned.

Kenneth Petty was in federal custody Wednesday — He turned himself into the Marshals. According to court docs, he’ll face a judge later today.

Petty moved to California in July 2019, but according to law enforcement he got pulled over in Beverly Hills in November and that’s when his legal troubles started.

Bev Hills PD made a traffic stop on November 15 and determined Petty was a registered s.e.x offender in New York state but had not registered in California … as required.

He was arrested and released on a $20,000 bond. The L.A. County D.A. charged him for failing to register as a s.e.x offender.

It appears he still didn’t check in after that because now the feds are in on the case. He was indicted in federal court for the same thing … failing to register.

Kenneth’s rap sheet includes a 1995 conviction for first-degree attempted r.a.p.e. He served almost 4 years in NY state prison for the crime and was required to register as a s.e.x offender. If convicted on the federal charge for failure to register, Kenneth faces up to 10 years in prison.

Nicki and Kenneth hit up the Bev Hills Courthouse to get a marriage license in July … around the time the couple moved to Cali.

Kylie Jenner goes completely n.a.k.e.d under sheer dress

Kylie Jenner stripped completely n.a.k.e.d for her fans but did nothing to cover her modesty in a sheer dress.

The make-up mogul risked bearing all during a recent shoot with best pal Stassie Karanikolaou while they were on holiday together.

Clad in a completely see-through pink maxi dress, Kylie clutched her privates to hide any further exposure for the stunning snaps, which she posted for her 164million Instagram fans.

She went for a full-glam look with lipstick, dark eyeliner and blusher on her cheeks.

Beside her, Stassie's naked bum was facing towards the camera, and the contrasting skin-tight dress clung to her incredible curves - much like Kylie.

NDLEA arrests arms dealers selling ammunition for N500

Two suspects dealing in arms and ammunition, Dung Rwang and Dachollum Yohanna, have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency with 1,360 rounds of live ammunition.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Bauchi State Command of the NDLEA on patrol along the Bauchi-Jos Road.

Punch Metro learnt that the suspects had boarded a commercial car from Numa, Adamawa State, and were heading for Jos, Plateau State, where they wanted to sell the ammunition, including one AK-47 magazine.

The weapons were reportedly concealed in sacks and kept in the boot of the vehicle.

The spokesperson for the anti-narcotic agency, Jonah Achema, said in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects, who were among the seven passengers in the car, owned up to the crime.

Achema stated that the suspects confessed that they had been into illegal arms dealing for some time, selling a piece of ammunition “for N500 only.”

The Bauchi State Commander, NDLEA, Segun Oke, said the suspects and the exhibits would be handed over to the state police command for further investigation.

Kenyan school teacher proposes to his girlfriend through cute newspaper article on his birthday

Boniface Ong'era Masese, a Kenyan high school teacher, has set the bar high for all men when it comes to romantic gestures. The fearless man decided to declare his love for his woman in the most selfless yet creative manner during his birthday.

As the educator turned 28, he decided to propose to his longtime lover through the most adorable message. Boniface contacted a newspaper and published a tiny article during his big day but funnily enough, he chose to turn his birthday into his lady's special day.

As someone who grew up in the village, the teacher admitted he was not a big believer of going big on his birthday.

The leap year baby even claimed his friends always poked fun at him for being so closed off to birthday festivities. Despite not buying the whole celebration tradition, Boniface chose to make his lady remember the day for the rest of her life.

The teacher claimed he would not have remembered it was his birthday if Facebook did not notify him. But there was a reason to bring back the joy of the day because he was no longer a one-man show and had more to be thankful for.

According to him, his day helped him reminisce and going forward, it will be even better in the coming years. "Today as I mark this day, I only have one wish. To my lady Turah Mokeira, will you marry me?" He asked.

Kim Kardashian slammed for 'cultural appropriation' over her new hairstyle

Kim Kardashian has found herself at the centre of a "cultural appropriation" row on social media over her new hairstyle.

The reality TV star shared pictures from a recent photoshoot of herself wearing braids in her hair, but was instantly slammed by her followers.

The SKIMS CEO, 39, stunned when she rocked up in braids to her husband Kanye West's Yeezy A/W 20/21 PFW show, but her look was met with much criticism.

Critics rushed to Twitter to voice their concerns over the bombshell's new hair-do, with many saying her hairstyle was ripping off "black culture".

One person wrote: "I wish I was as determined to do anything as Kim Kardashian is to appropriate black hairstyles"

Another added: "can you please stop appropiating black culture?"

While a third penned: "Seeing non-black women wearing historically black hairstyles like its some fun trend is appropriation. And what’s worse is when they change the name to make it their own. Remember when Kim Kardashian called African banku knots 'space buns'."

And a fourth wrote: "Black culture appropriator!"

But despite the surge of criticism over her braids, some of Kim's fans rushed to her defence.

One fan wrote: "It’s 2020 we know it’s y’all culture. It’s a badass hairstyle and you don’t control the hands that braid it. On top of that , this is only an American issue. No one on earth besides African Americans deem this cultural appropriation"

While another added: "GORGEOUS! Bring blonde kim back!"

It’s God’s plan: Obaseki reacts to Oshiomhole’s fall

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has hailed the ruling of Abuja Federal High Court which bars Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, from parading himself as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor stated this while addressing party members during the Edo South Senatorial rally of the APC in Benin City, the State capital.

Obaseki who has been at daggers drawn with Oshiomhole over the soul of the party in Edo State described the ruling as God’s plan and a right decision for the party which calls for a thanksgiving to celebrate it.

“When we planned this meeting last week to meet with all our executives, we did not know that God has plan for us today.

“No man is God. God is God. No man can play God. With what God has done today, what we should do now is to just thank him.

“The meaning of what happened today is that peace has now finally come to our party. The purpose of God for Nigeria in our party will now be fulfilled.

“My problem with Comrade Oshiomhole is that when people started saying that they were Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), I called him and urged him to denounce them.

“I told him to come out and say something. I told him ‘Comrade, denounce them, you are the national chairman; dissociate yourself from these people that are destroying our party.’ Up till today, he did not.”

Obaseki however said that the decision of the court barring Oshiomhole from parading himself as national chairman of the APC does not make him a happy man.

“The court has taken the right decision today, but it does not make me a happy person because it would not have come to this.

“So, my message today is, when a child puts his hands in feces, you do not cut off that hand, you take that hand and wash it.

“And for those our members who have been misled, we cannot practise our democracy the way it was in 1983,” the Governor said.

Edo Police arrest Inspector for allegedly killing civilian

The Police Command in Edo state on Wednesday said it has arrested a police inspector, who allegedly shot a civilian, Richard Odia to death in Benin in February.

This Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.

Nwabuzor said the state Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, had directed an immediate orderly room trial (a mechanism for disciplinary action against personnel who erred in service) of the inspector.

He explained that police inspector was serving in Delta Command where he was attached to the Department of Operations and was on special duty to 301 Construction Company, Asaba.

The command’s spokesman said the policeman was on escort duty from Asaba to Benin when he shot and killed the deceased.

He also said that the incident happened on Feb. 11 at about 7:00 p.m.

According to Nwabuzor, the police personnel, shot and seriously wounded the deceased with an AK-47 rifle at a road construction site at Asagba boundary on Benin-Auchi expressway, after a misunderstanding.

“The deceased was immediately rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where he unfortunately died on Feb. 12.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, hereby condoles with the family and friends of late Richard Odia on his untimely death and assures them that justice will prevail in this case.

“He has also appealed to them to remain calm and law-abiding as the command under his leadership, holds high premium on human lives.

“He has however, invited anyone who witnessed the incident to come and give evidence during the trial because without witnesses, the aim of conducting the orderly room trial will be defeated,” he stated.

Thai workers are caught ironing USED face masks so they can resell them to people trying to avoid coronavirus

Thai workers have been found recycling used face masks and selling them for a profit amid growing coronavirus fears.

Police raided a house in the Saraburi province, north of Bangkok, on Monday after receiving a tip.

Six workers were discovered putting face masks in a washing machine before ironing them flat and selling them as if they were new, Coconuts reported.

Thousands of masks were seized and taken to a local health department for further investigation.

There is a huge demand for surgical masks as the coronavirus continues to spread across the globe.

One of the workers told authorities that the used face masks were sourced from an unidentified dealer, according to Colonel Pairot Trisophon from Viharn Daeng Police.

The worker said that a face mask would sell for the price of One Thai Baht ($0.05 AUD) and that the group could turn around 300 to 400 masks in a day.

Colonel Pairot said that police were seeking the whereabouts of the homeowner, who was identified as a 47-year-old named Jintana Namwichai.

There are now more than 92,000 cases of coronavirus across the world.

Some 3100 people have died and 78 countries have been infected.

The World Health Organisation has advised people to wash their hands at least five times a day with soap and water or hand sanitiser to protect themselves against the virus.

Woman PLUCKS OUT 73-year-old man’s eyes in Enugu

The 73-year-old man, Chief Oforbuike Ani, a native of Amodu Akunanaw in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, who died after a widow allegedly plucked out his eyes, has been buried.

The 38-year-old widow and mother of five, identified as Blessing Nwatu, was alleged to have hit the old man with a brick, where he was sitting in his compound on February 21, 2020.

After the victim had fallen down, Nwatu allegedly used a knife to pluck out his eyes and left him in a pool of his own blood.

It was gathered that neighbours, who got wind of the incident, called one of Ani’s sons living in Enugu, the state capital, who came and took him to hospital, where he died on February 28.

Punch correspondent, who visited the Okpebe community in Amodu on Tuesday during the victim’s burial, reported that residents described the incident that resulted in the man’s death as a taboo.

One of the sons of the deceased, Barry, told Punch Metro that his father’s killing hit him like a thunderbolt, but thanked God that the perpetrator had been arrested.

He stated, “On February 21, 2020, I received a call from my father’s best friend that I should come home immediately because my father was seriously ill. I thought maybe it was his usual illness. So, I rushed home.

“While on my way to the village, I started receiving calls that I should come home because a woman used a knife to pluck out my father’s eyes.

“When I got home, I saw my father lying down in a pool of blood in the compound with his two eyes plucked out. I asked a woman I saw in the neighbourhood where the perpetrator was, but she advised that I should take my father to hospital first. I took her advice and rushed my father to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla.

“I met a doctor at the Emergency Unit and he asked me what happened to my father; I could not tell him much, because I didn’t have the details and he told me to get a police report before the hospital would start treatment.”

Barry explained that he begged the doctor to commence treatment to save his father’s life, while he went to the police station to report the incident.

He added, “He accepted to commence treatment and I went to the Agbani Police Division, where I reported the incident. Immediately the DCO saw the pictures of the incident, he followed me to the hospital to see my father. It was at the hospital that the DCO called his men to go to my community to arrest the perpetrator.

“When I left the hospital with the DCO, I got a call from the doctor asking me where my father’s eyes were and if I picked them. I told him no and he said that I should go and bring the eyes. I came back to the village but could not find them. I went back to tell the doctor that I couldn’t find them.

“Since February 21, 2020, the doctors started battling to save my father’s life, but on February 28, he passed away and because he had instructed that his body should not be kept in the mortuary, we had to bury him today (Tuesday) according to his last wish.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident, told punch correspondent that the perpetrator had been arrested and was charged on Friday and remanded in a correctional centre.

COVID-19: Outrage as Reps resolve to shut down for 2 weeks

Condemnation has continued to trail the House of Representatives’ resolution to suspend plenary for two weeks to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the National Assembly.

Civil Society groups which spoke to Daily Trust condemned the decision of the lawmakers, saying it is unjustifiable.

Though, the House did not specify when the plenary would be suspended, the Green Chamber, in a resolution at plenary on Tuesday, said the two-week break would give members opportunity to be tested for the virus and make adequate preparation against spread of the disease in the National Assembly.

The resolution was sequel to the motion; tagged “Need for Emergency Response to Tackling of Coronavirus in Nigeria”, sponsored by Idem Uyinan (PDP, Akwa Ibom).

The Minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP, Delta) who added the prayer that the House should close for two weeks, which was unanimously adopted, said the period would allow the management to put in place adequate preventive measures.

“So that all of us can be tested. This is a very serious matter because you don’t know who you are having a hand shake with,” he said.

Also, another lawmaker, Isiaka Ibrahim, lamented that Nigeria is at zero level in terms of control centres.

Awaji-Inombek Abiante, (PDP, Rivers) on his part, regretted that the House stepped down a motion asking for the transportation of stranded Nigerians back home from China, saying, “now, our fears have caught up with us”.

Still speaking on the motion, Obinna Chidoka (PDP, Anambra) called on government to put in place proactive measures that will prevent the spread of the virus in the country.

He noted that outside the health sector in Nigeria, there was no place that people patronise more than the National Assembly, and called for serious preventive measures at the complex.

Chidoka also advised government to establish more isolation centres, and for the legislature to be strict in oversight functions to ensure that the health sector lives up to expectation.
