The Osun police command on Thursday said its men arrested a 29-year-old-man, Adeleye Olusesan, for allegedly r.a.p.i.n.g the three-year-old daughter of his lover in Ifetedo area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, while parading the suspect at the police headquarters in Osogbo said that the suspect committed the crime on February 18.

Kokumo said that the victim’s mother (the suspect’s lover) left her daughter with Olusesan, who she met and had been living with since July 2019, and went to work at a farm.

He added that upon her return, she discovered that her daughter had been violated.

The police boss said that the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police, thus leading to the arrest of the suspect.

He added that during interrogation and investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

Kokumo said that the victim had been taken to the hospital where she was receiving treatment.

He said that the medical examination conducted on her revealed that there was extensive laceration into her rectum.

South-South Governors to establish regional security network

Governors of the south-south region have agreed to adopt a security outfit to address the security challenges in the region.

Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this on Thursday to journalists after a closed-door meeting that lasted nearly three hours.

“We have agreed as a region that there is a need to have a regional security outfit and we have mandated the brace commission to begin to work out the details and brief us at our next meeting which is going to hold in Port Harcourt,” he said.

Highlighting some of the resolutions reached at the meeting, Okowa said on the top of the agenda was the resuscitation of the brace commission which according to him, would help to harmonise policies that would drive the economic cooperation and integration of the region.

The governor also noted that other issues discussed included asking the Federal Government to deduct the 13 per cent derivation from source before allocation to every state in the federation.

“13% derivation must first be taken out of the funds that come from the oil economy before the rest of money is shared,” the Delta State governor stated.
“This 13% is supposed to be for the oil-producing states and that has not been the case for a very long time, and we’ve agreed as governors to take up this matter at the appropriate level”.

Another matter that was discussed was how to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus disease.

Ekiti APC rejects Ajimobi’s nomination as deputy chair

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State on Thursday rejected the nomination of a former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, by the party’s National Working Committee as the deputy national chairman (South) of the party.

The state APC Publicity Secretary, Ade Ajayi, who insisted that the nominee for the position from Ekiti State remained Senator Gbenga Aluko, said the nomination by the NWC did not follow due process.

Ajayi in a statement in Ado Ekiti argued that the nomination was also in contempt of court as the matter was before a law court.

The position became vacant following the exit of the former occupant, Niyi Adebayo, from Ekiti State to become a minister.

Ajayi said, “The position of the Deputy National Chairman South of the APC is still vacant and whatever nomination and announcement that may have been made is a nullity and an exercise in futility.

“We wish to state that the announcement is a fraudulent assertion. We recall that select leaders of the APC in the South-West met  in Lagos on January 31, 2020 where the APC state chairmen and other members of the South-West caucus, being the statutory organ, was mandated to meet and decide on  the matter.

“Subsequently, the South-West caucus of the party met on February 4, 2020 at Osogbo, Osun State, and it was inconclusive!  How can the party now issue a statement on March 4 that a decision was taken on 14th of January, 2020? It can only be a fraud!

“As far as the Ekiti State APC is concerned, our nominee for the vacant position of the Deputy Vice- Chairman, (South), is Senator Aluko.”

Dubai ruler ordered kidnap of his own children, damning court ruling finds

The ruler of Dubai ordered the kidnapping of two of his own children and conducted a ‘campaign of fear and intimidation’ against his former wife, the High Court has ruled.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s sixth wife, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, 45, fled to London from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last April after becoming ‘terrified’ of her husband at the beginning of last year.

The 70-year-old vice president and prime minister of the UAE – who is said to be on ‘respectful and friendly terms’ with the British royal family was accused of using ‘the state and its apparatus to threaten, intimidate, mistreat and oppress with a total disregard for the rule of law’, in a damning publication by one of Britain’s most senior judges.

Soon after his wife fled, Sheikh Mohammed applied for the summary return to Dubai of their daughter Al Jalila, 12, and son Zayed, 8.

But Princess Haya, the half-sister of King Abdullah II of Jordan, asked the High Court to go on a fact finding mission, particularly in relation to the alleged kidnap and forcible detention of two of the Sheikh’s adult daughters from another marriage, almost two decades apart.

Further details of the hearings, which have been held in London since last year, can be reported for the first time after the Supreme Court rejected a last-ditch attempt by Sheikh Mohammed to prevent publication.

It can now be reported that Princess Haya applied for a non-molestation order for her own protection in July, as well as a forced marriage protection order in relation to her daughter, Jalila.

Princess Haya also alleged that there had been a ‘campaign of fear and intimidation’ against her since the start of last year, after Sheikh Mohammed discovered her affair with one of her male bodyguards.

And today Sir Andrew McFarlane – the most senior family judge in England and Wales – said Sheikh Mohammed had ‘ordered and orchestrated’ the abduction and forced return to Dubai of Sheikha Shamsa in August 2000 and of her sister Sheikha Latifa twice, in 2002 and again in 2018.

The judge found that Shamsa, now 38, was abducted from the streets of Cambridge and ‘has been deprived of her liberty for much if not all of the past two decades’.

Sir Andrew also found Latifa, now 35, was held ‘on the instructions of her father’ for more than three years after her first escape attempt in 2002 before being released in October 2005.

Latifa’s second attempted escape from the UAE made headlines around the world after the publication in March 2018 of a video which she said would only be released if ‘I’m dead, or I’m in a very, very, very bad situation’.

Sir Andrew backed claims by Tiina Jauhiainen, Latifa’s friend who tried to help her escape, that Indian special forces boarded a boat in international waters off the coast of Goa on March 4 2018, before Latifa was taken back to Dubai against her will.

The judge said: ‘She was pleading for the soldiers to kill her rather than face the prospect of going back to her family in Dubai.

‘I conclude, on the balance of probability, that Latifa’s account of her motives for wishing to leave Dubai represents the truth.

‘She was plainly desperate to extricate herself from her family and prepared to undertake a dangerous mission in order to do so.’

In a statement, co-founder of the Free Latifa campaign David Haigh said: ‘It is now clear to see why Sheikh Mohammed did not want these judgments to be made available to the world.

‘They show him as someone unfit to be in charge of children, let alone a state that is an ally of the UK.’

Ms Jauhiainen branded herself ‘delighted with the publication of the judgements’.

USA begins testing cure of coronavirus drug produced by Nigerian professor, Maurice Iwu

Days after former INEC chairman, Maurice Iwu, revealed that his institute had developed a potential cure for the coronavirus outbreak, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonanya Onu, has said the United States is conducting tests on the ‘chemical compound’.

The Minister however dismissed reports suggesting that Iwu had found a cure for the disease, adding that his initial finding was that the compound could cure SARS.

Iran cancels Friday prayers amid coronavirus outbreak

Friday prayers in Iran have been cancelled across all provincial capitals amid the country’s growing coronavirus outbreak, state television said.

The report comes as Tehran and other areas cancelled Friday prayers last week over the outbreak.

Iran earlier announced that the new coronavirus has killed 92 people amid 2,922 confirmed cases across the Islamic Republic, the highest death toll in the world outside of China.

Meanwhile, the IranWire news site reported that Iran’s first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri has tested positive for coronavirus and is undergoing treatment.

Several Iranian officials have been infected with the coronavirus and one senior official died from a coronavirus infection on Monday.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani meanwhile acknowledged that the virus was in nearly all of Iran’s 31 provinces while speaking at a Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

“This disease is a widespread one,” he said, according to a transcript. “It encompasses almost all of our provinces and is, in a sense, a global disease that many countries in the world have become infected with, and we must work together to tackle this problem as quickly as possible.”

US female presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren drops out of White House race

Elizabeth Warren, who electrified progressives with her “plan for everything” and strong message of economic populism, dropped out of the United States Democratic presidential race on Thursday, days after the onetime front-runner failed to win a single Super Tuesday state, not even her own.

For much of the past year, her campaign had all the markers of success, robust poll numbers, impressive fundraising and a sprawling political infrastructure that featured staffers on the ground across the country.

But once voting began in February, she never found a reliable base of supporters as Democrats coalesced around Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, her progressive rival, and former Vice President Joe Biden, who established himself as the leading centrist in the race.

“I refuse to let disappointment blind me, or you to what we’ve accomplished,” Warren told her campaign staff on a call Thursday.

“We didn’t reach our goal, but what we have done together — what you have done — has made a lasting difference. It’s not the scale of the difference we wanted to make, but it matters.”

Warren’s exit leaves the Democratic field with just one female candidate: Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who has collected only one delegate toward the nomination.

Condoms sell out in stores as people now use it on their fingers to prevent coronavirus

People all over the world are currently doing whatever they can to prevent themselves getting Coronavirus, from wearing face masks everywhere they go to using hand sanitiser more times a day than they can count.

But methods of prevention seem to be getting more and more extreme and depending on your point of view, some may even say ridiculous.

The latest strategy allegedly sees people panic-buying packets of condoms to put them on their fingers to protect against the virus when pushing elevator buttons in buildings.

Photos have been doing the rounds on social media showing empty Durex condom shelves in stores in Australia and Singapore.

A Facebook user name Thanh Thai shared one such photo on the Ryde District Mum's page, according to Mail Online.

Alongside the image, she wrote: "Can anybody please tell me what happened."

Fellow parents explained that there had been a viral post encouraging people to buy condoms and put them on their fingers to avoid Coronavirus.

"There has been some stupid post telling people to put condoms on their fingers to push buttons etc," replied one user.

Another described it as being "beyond ridiculous".

Over on Twitter people have also been talking about this, with users sharing photos of people actually wearing the condoms on their fingers.

"Condoms in Singapore sold out amidst Coronavirus fear. Since Singaporeans have been using the condom as a protective measure when touching the elevator buttons in their apartments and other buildings to prevent being contaminated," wrote one person.

Another said: "Ok so because of the Coronavirus the supermarkets are empty cuz Singaporeans keep stocking up on food at home out of fear of going outside. My mom just told me in one supermarket the condom aisle is completely empty."
