Coronavirus: Pope Francis to deliver Sunday’s prayer by livestream

Pope Francis decided to deliver Sunday’s prayer by livestream and Italy called in retired doctors as the new coronavirus epidemic gathered strength and emptied streets in Europe’s worst affected country.

The 83-year-old pontiff broke with centuries of tradition by enlisting the help of technology to keep crowds from descending on Saint Peter’s Square for the traditional Angelus Prayer.

“The prayer will be broadcast via livestream by Vatican News and on screens in Saint Peter’s Square,” the Vatican said in a statement.

It had originally promised to review the Argentine-born pope’s schedule “to avoid the dissemination” of the new COVID-19 disease.

The Vatican appears to believe that the pope’s absence from his traditional spot at the window will keep the crowds on the vast square down and the threat of contagion low.

The pope himself has been out of action for more than a week with a cold.

The Vatican is in the process of unrolling unprecedented health precautions designed to keep the city state’s 450 mostly elderly residents safe.

It recorded its first COVID-19 infection on Thursday and was awaiting the results of a test on another person who appeared at a Vatican-organised event last month.

That conference was also attended by Microsoft President Brad Smith and European Parliament President David Sassoli.

The Vatican said all those present were being notified about the test as a precaution.

Pa Kasumu never thought his sickness would kill him – Son

The death of veteran actor, Kasumu Odumosu, fondly called Pa Kasumu came as a shock to many, even though the actor had been battling with stroke for nine years.

The 66-year-old actor who had acted in over 100 films would fondly be remembered not only for his humorous roles but for his signature voice which always singled him out.

Speaking with Saturday Beats, Pa Kasumu’s eldest son, Olatunde Odumosu, said his father never thought that his sickness would lead to death, while adding that his late father’s wish was to have a personal encounter with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye.

He said, “My father died around 1pm last Sunday. I was 30 minutes away from the hospital when he died. For his burial, we want to work around April 2 and 3. I don’t want to sound like I’m giving a precise date because it’s dependent on the venue we want to use. We have to be sure that the venue is free to accept my father’s burial.

“On that Sunday, he was first taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta but was later rushed to a private hospital because he needed urgent medical attention.

My father never thought that his sickness would eventually lead to his death. He battled stroke for nine years. Though the doctors said it was partial stroke but I believe that stroke is stroke.

“He always felt that he would get back on his feet one day, though he was forgetting things and it seemed like he was beginning to lose his memory. He would get it back sometimes like he wanted to say something but then, he would forget again. Sir K (Pa Kasunmu) never submitted to death. He was still optimistic that he would get back to acting.

“Sometimes, he used to lament that people didn’t call him for movie roles again because of his ailment. But I always encouraged him that he would soon be hale and hearty. He constantly told us that he was targeting Pastor Enoch Adeboye because he believed that once the man of God prayed for him, his brain would come back and his health would be restored. He was not seeing well and sometimes, his eyelids would shut down that he had to use his hands to open them himself; it was that bad.

“We had a lot of offers from different people under the guise of prophets and spiritualists. He was the joy of the family. His ambition in life was to die as an actor. He wanted to live all his life on the screen and on the stage. His house was littered with scripts, both finished and unfinished.”

Pa Kasumu’s son also revealed that his father’s teachings and attitude to work were enviable. He said, “He loved his acting career like a baby loves breast milk. Acting was like his oxygen.

“I like to remember him for his strength and his passion for life and his job. His own kind of passion wasn’t driven by the availability of money. He just wanted to act. He was full of joy doing all the things he did for a living. He believed that money was automatic that would come by doing what he loved to do. He was a disciplinarian when it concerned his job. My father always said that when one loves what one does, one would find joy within one’s heart and one won’t see it as a taxing career.

“Even though I’m not in the movie industry, his attitude to work moulded my life and career. I’m also happy that my father saw his grandchild. He was a very strong man and he died as a very good man.

“I can boldly say that my father lived a fulfilled life to a very good extent. I am not happy with the way things ended with him. My father loved his acting career like a baby loves breast milk. He had too much passion for acting; like his life depended on it. Acting was like his oxygen.”

Taking your phone to the toilet could increase chances of getting coronavirus

As the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK hits 164, many of us are rightly seeking to follow the best measures in an attempt to stay safe.

Masks are becoming a common sight and shops are reported to running on low on stock, but the World Health Organisation, Public Health England and the NHS all stress there is no evidence that the masks are effective.

One expert has also said there is ' little evidence' the masks will help protect , and are better worn by those who already have the virus to prevent it spreading.

The government has advised that one of the best ways to protect yourself is to regularly wash your hands with warm water and soap, spending at least 20 seconds at the sink.

But all that could be undone if you're in the habit of taking your phone to the toilet with you to scroll through social media as you're doing your business.

That's because the bacteria you transfer onto your phone screen from toilets that many other people may have used before you will go straight back to your hands when you use your phone again - making your 20 seconds of scrubbing as you sing happy birthday twice through pointless.

The virus can survive for between two and nine hours on surfaces like metal, glass and plastic.

Professor William Keevil, from the University of Southampton, said: "You could be washing your hands, but if you start touching your smartphone screen and then touch your face, that is a potential route of infection," as reported by the Metro .

According to Dr Perpetua Emeagi, a lecturer in Human Biology and Biological Sciences at Liverpool Hope University, studies have shown there are up to 17,000 bacterial stains on the average phone.

To put that into perspective, that's 10 times more than a toilet seat itself.

A survey by JellyBean has also found that 54 per cent of Brits admit to having taken their phone to the toilet with them.

So, the simple answer is to keep your phone away from the throne.

Nine killed in Mexico shootout with police

Nine people were killed in a bloody confrontation on Friday in western Mexico between a criminal gang and agents investigating a suspected kidnapping, officials said.

The dead included two officers and six people believed to have been held captive in a house in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco state, the state prosecutor’s office said.

Another man died on the street.

Jalisco has been hard-hit by violence linked to organized crime, particularly the powerful Jalisco New Generation drug cartel.

In the latest incident, the kidnappers opened fire on the officers and shot their captives when they were cornered, state prosecutor Gerardo Octavio Solis Gomez said.

After the gang shot at them, the agents returned fire and requested backup.

Dozens of police and elements of the army supported by two helicopters were deployed to begin a house to house search for the attackers.

A woman who asked to remain anonymous said the man who was killed in the street was her 43-year-old brother who had gone to visit his daughter.

“They shot him in the heart, but he had nothing to do with it. He was already dead when I arrived,” she said.

Around 300 assault rifle shells were scattered at the scene.

Neighbors described moments of panic during the shooting and the search operation.

“They banged on the door, the windows were broken. We weren’t given a chance to go and open the door,” a neighbor who identified herself as Gabriela told AFP, adding that officers went up on the rooftops.

In a nearby kindergarten, teachers followed safety protocols to protect the children.

“They grabbed the children and then laid them down on the ground, they had them all protected,” Josefina, 40, told AFP.

NIMC director docked in Owerri for ra.pi.n.g 2 year-old girl

Mr Ikenna Unegbu, the Imo state director of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has been docked at a family court in Owerri for raping a two- year old girl in his office.

The Nation reported that Chinonye Obioma, mother of the victim, who is also the complainant, told the court that her daughter was defiled on Wednesday, 5 February 2020, by Unegbu when he took the child from her in the guise of consoling her.

The woman had scolded her daughter for pouring water around the office.

“My daughter went into the office twice with biscuits and groundnuts, only to come out from the director’s office the third time crying.”

The complainant went ahead to explain that she discovered the abnormal movement and posture of her baby after she urinated on their way home.

“When I asked her what happened, she mentioned that Uncle Police (the suspect) removed her pant, and put his stick(pe.ni.s) inside her bumbum

“I went home in tears, seeing reddish, swollen virginal, remains of sperms, tissue paper gummed on her private parts.

“I called the Oga Ikenna (suspect) to enquire what he did with my daughter, and he harshly denied knowledge of the incident,” the aggrieved mother told the court.

Obioma, who owns a photography stand within the commission, added that the next day on February 6, she took her baby to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri and Police Hospital to carry out test on her daughter, and the doctors confirmed through medical reports that the two year-old girl’s hymen was broken.

She told the court that the medical reports showed that the baby sustained a serious injury after her abuser had penetrated her.

The court presided over by the magistrate, Her Worship Odionyenma ruled that the suspect be granted bail and be re-arraigned on Thursday, 19 March, 2020.

The magistrate explained that the constitution gives protection to both the complainant and the accused, insisting that evidence would be properly weighed to ensure justice was served.

Woman used by different pastors for fraudulent miracles ARRESTED... BEGS for forgiveness

A 44-year-old woman, Mrs. Bose Olasukanmi who was used by several ‘fraudulent’ pastors to perform fake miracle has been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Lagos after months of trail on her by the undercover operatives.

According to a source close to IRT, the suspect Olasukanmi used to relocate to another church after being paid for every successful performance so that their trick would not be exposed by people or relations who may see her in the drama.

Her relatives would not be able to reach her to find out whether she is the Olasukanmi they know or somebody who resembles her.Her first performance was at a Lagos Church followed by a church in Port Harcourt and the church in Abakaliki before the cat was let out of the bag.

When the bubble burst, the suspect Olasukanmi went into hiding while the fraudulent pastors quickly made a video of how and when they were performing the fake miracle, which looked real to the unsuspecting congregation as they watch her being healed by the pastors.

“Once she enters the stage, she would pretend that the broken right arm had been hanging and all medical efforts to heal her in both orthodox and native hospitals proved abortive until one of her friends, who is a member of the church advised her to try the church.

“At this point, one of the ministering pastor or the general overseer would step forward and demonstrate as if the Holy Spirit had entered him.

After speaking in tongues for some minutes, he would order the woman to come very close to him while the congregation would be silent anxiously waiting to see the broken right arm that have been hanging.

“The pastor would ask the woman: Do you want to be healed? Have you been born again? If she answers in the negative, he then led her to Christ in prayer. He would then order the evil spirit that bent her arm to depart and be destroyed by fire. As he is ordering the evil spirit to depart, the hanging broken right arm will be coming back gradually to its form until it is completely stretched down and normal and he would ask the congregation to praise the lord. While the congregation is busy praising God, one of the church members whose role is to take the woman away, would appear and whisk her away.

“This drama would make the congregation to increase in the next service as the people who witnessed the fake miracle would spread the news when they get home”, the police source said.

The increase in the congregation, the source further revealed, would increase the revenue they would make from church offering including the seed sowing the desperate victims would make to get their own miracle. The amount often demanded as seed offering ranged from N20, 000 to N50, 000 or more. Some would even donate their best cars without knowing that the miracle is a scam.

Worried by the failure of the various law enforcement agents, information regarding the nefarious activities of the pastors was given to the commander of the Inspector General of police Intelligence Response Team, a Deputy Commissioner of police, DCP. Abba Kyari who directed the Southwest coordinator, a Chief Superintendent of Police to fish out the woman to be able to intercept the fraudulent pastors, church workers and others who played roles in the scam.

When operatives of the team swung into action, the woman Mrs. Olasukanmi was arrested and brought to Lagos and she confessed to the crime and promised police that she would lead them to the pastors and all the people who played different roles in the scam to regain her freedom.

Speaking with newsmen, Olasukanmi said, “I am from Ilesha, Osun State. I am married. I had three children. Unfortunately, two died few hours after delivery. My husband loved me so much that he did not want me to do anything. He wanted me to be a housewife and he had been honouring my request and he treated me like a queen.

“Unfortunately, when he died, my life changed and I started suffering as everybody abandoned me. Though I had my primary school certificate, the only work available at the time was to go and serve a food seller at least, to be sure of daily bread. When the suffering became unbearable, I decided to relocate to Lagos for a greener pasture in 1989.
Unfortunately, in 1990, I lost my mother and I went back home to give my caring mother the last respect.

“After the burial of my mother I came back to Lagos and secured a job in a food restaurant in Surulere area of Lagos without salary as Food Assistant. However the owner of the food center allows me to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner as I liked. Even customers sometimes gave me tip, which I used to buy soap to wash my clothes, body cream and personal need. I did not save a dime but it helped me a lot.

“I worked for 9years without salary and I had no alternative than to start planning on how to open my own food center or even food hawking in Surulere. Unfortunately for me, as I was walking on the road, one evening, a vehicle from nowhere had a break failure hit me to the ground and broke my right arm and left leg.

“I had no money to treat myself as the driver that hit me abandoned me later. Life became hard for me, as I had stopped living with my sister before I had the accident. I lost my husband in October 2018 and this made me to go and live with my sister, but when I secured this food-selling job, I relocated by renting a room in the same Surulere area.

“After the accident, everyone abandoned me and I had no money to continue to pay for a room.
It was under this condition that I met a woman friend in 2008. Her name is Fatila Musa. She used to give me money to eat and ameliorate my suffering. One day she took me to her church and told me that the church had a two-month programme that would start from September to October and she would like me to accompany her.

“When I accepted, she told me that I should use what I have to get what I want. I did not understand what she meant by using what I have as woman to get what I want considering what the accident had done to my body. She then told me that what I have can help me to get what I wanted and that that gift I have is my broken right arm.

“I then asked her how? She said she would teach me how to carry my hand and how to bring it down in such a way that the congregation would believe me and when I collect the money for the role I played, it will be reasonable to start my life.

“After a one-day rehearsal, she took me to a pastor at Calvary Close, Ogba area of Lagos. She said the name of the church is Radiant Army Deliverance Ministry a.k.a Anthony Anthony.

“The first day I performed, I got N9, 000.
Life became sweet as the pastors were happy with my performance, but when people started gossiping that police may raid the place one day, the pastor told members to be carrying me away fast anytime I finish my performance.

“When the suspicion became too much, they started substituting my role with video recorded performance. In 2009 she carried me to a church in Port Harcourt. I performed in three churches in the three days we stayed there. The same year, we moved to Abakiliki area of Ebonyi State.

“I am a moslem, but the pastor, prophet Goffrey Abbey would only ask me to bring my hand down and I will start bringing it down as if his power was the thing bringing it down and be jumping up in joy to the deceit of the congregation who often clapped with joy and praising God for the miracle.  I cannot remember the names of all the churches she took me to because their names were not disclosed to me.

“When I was in Lagos, she used to come and carry me in my rented one room apartment at Igando area of Lagos but in Port Harcourt and Abakaliki, she puts me in one of the rooms in the church premises. The performance in Port Harcourt was in Borikkiiri area.

After 9:00.am, I would follow Fatila to wherever she wanted us to go and sleep. She never used me for prostitution”.

She added: “I lost my conscience because suffering weakened my sense of reasoning. I needed money to treat my hand and everybody abandoned me. I needed to feed myself. I needed to survive.

‘Though I want to be healed, but with this experience, it would be hard for me to believe any pastor again. I don’t believe any pastor can heal me. If I see all the pastors involved in the scam with me, I will confront them. They cannot deny me. If I see the woman, Fatila that carried me to them, I will hold her. I won’t mind the help she rendered to me because she used me to make money also and paid me peanuts.

“My only regret is that I knew that it was a fake miracle performance, which deceived many genuine children of God and enriched the fake miracle performing pastors and prophets.

It is this same fake miracle performance I was involved in that made my father to get stroke when he heard that they were using me to make money.”She hinted: “In the first performance I got N9, 000, second performance N7, 000, third performance N10, 000. In Port Harcourt I got N10, 000, N7, 000 and N15, 000 while in Abakaliki, I performed only once before IRT operatives stormed there and whisked me from where Fatila hid me. If I regain my freedom, I will not do it again. I will look for genuine business to do.

“My advice to people who go to church is that they should open their eyes well and know the type of church they are worshipping. If they are careful, they would discover on time whether they are in a genuine church or with fake pastors and prophets.”

Social media giant Facebook has closed its three London offices from Friday afternoon through Monday for deep cleaning, after a visiting Singapore-based employee tested positive for coronavirus.

“An employee based in our Singapore office who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 visited our London offices 24-26 February 2020. We are therefore closing our London offices until Monday for deep cleaning and employees are working from home until then,” said the company in a statement.

Such a humbling period in my life. A real down time . I don’t need to go into details of where I am today so I don’t get carried away and maybe seem boastful ( you already know 😝) . A reminder that no matter how tough it gets , it can get better . Cheers to getting better and doing better. Lots of love to those who have constantly stood by me . God bless you .

Some corps members have been snapped enjoying a tipper ride.

Though the location wasn't mentioned, but from the photo, both males and females jumped in to enjoy a free ride to their destination. Lol.
