Woman falls in love with her Tesco grocery delivery driver and now they’re getting married

When Helen Alder opened the door to bring her groceries in back in September 2017, she had no idea it would change her life.

At the time, she was a single divorcee mum-of-two and she wasn’t looking for love but romance quickly blossomed with the delivery driver Chris Goody.

Chris, 48, was working as a Tesco delivery driver in Stroud, Gloucestershire, and every week, he would go back to bring Helen her shopping. He would offer to bring them in for her and soon he was staying for a quick coffee or stopping to use her bathroom.

Eventually, he plucked up the courage to ask her out on a date, without the weekly shop sitting around them.

And from early on, Chris knew he would marry her some day, giving her the nickname FMG, which stands for future Mrs Goody, on their second date. Now, almost three years after meeting on Helen’s doorstep, the couple are planning their wedding – an elopement in July 2020, with just them and their dog Cedric.

Helen tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Back then it was just me and the kids and I had been single for years. I wasn’t looking for anything but I did think Chris was very handsome when he turned up.

‘We started off just chatting on the doorstep, then each week we would just talk more and more. He’d bring the shopping in, maybe have a drink and use the bathroom because it’s hard on the road. ‘He noticed that it was just me and the kids and then asked how long I had been single and things like that.

After about six weeks of chatting, he asked me if I wanted to go for a drink. ‘ Their first date was on 20 September 2017 and things moved quickly as just seven months later in April 2018, Chris moved in, and by May, he’d decided to ask Helen to marry him.

She adds: ‘We went on holiday to Devon and went for a day trip to Lundy Island. ‘When you get off the boat there, you have to walk up this hill and about a third of the way up, he said “Let’s rest for a few minutes”. We sat on a rock and he produced this ring box and asked me to marry him.

‘That place will always have a special place in our hearts.’ Since then, the couple have been planning their big day together, but decided that for the ceremony, they wanted something very simple, with just them and their dog Cedric, on 21 July 2020. They’ve planned a second celebration for friends and family at home in Gloucestershire.

Chile to quarantine football stars Sanchez, Vidal

Chilean soccer stars Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal will be quarantined when they return to their home country from Europe to play in a World Cup qualifier this month, Chile’s health minister said on Tuesday.

The players - who are signed to European clubs - are due to fly first to Uruguay for a World Cup qualifier on March 26 and then to Chile to face Colombia.

Italy announced a quarantine and advised against all but non-essential travel until April 3 after its death toll from coronavirus jumped by 168 to 631 this week.

“We do not make any distinction by people’s profession because nobody is immune to this virus and indeed the quarantine determined today for Italy applies to everyone,” said Health Minister Jaime Mañalich, according to local news website Emol.

“Of course, if these players want to work out on a machine in their homes, or all be quarantined together at Juan Pinto Duran (the national football stadium), then that’s their call.”

A source at the Football Federation of Chile told Emol it had been told nothing about quarantine plans for the players.

“So far there are no changes to our plans,” a source said. “What the minister says comes as a surprise.”

Coronavirus ‘kills 180 soldiers’ in North Korea

Almost 200 North Korean soldiers have been killed by coronavirus as the killer bug sweeps the isolated regime, according to reports.

The secretive state has not recorded a single case of coronavirus since it surfaced in neighbouring China in late December. Fears of a catastrophic outbreak are growing as South Korea confirmed it is the second most infected nation in the world with more than 7,000 cases.

And now a source in North Korea has claimed the Covid-19 strain of coronavirus has killed 180 soldiers, while more than 3,700 have been quarantined, the Daily NK reports.

The death toll was reportedly revealed in a document sent by army medics to the regime’s military bosses. Disturbingly, the source claimed the North Korean military is struggling to cremate the dead soldiers as there are ‘just too many bodies’.

‘I haven’t heard of corpses being cremated in military hospitals,’ the source said. ‘The military leadership likely believes that suddenly asking the hospitals to cremate all the bodies would create a big headache for medical staff.’

It comes after a flight carrying dozens of diplomats fleeing North Korea arrived in Russia today.

Wild animals continue to kill people in Zimbabwe

A railway line tracker has been killed by a lion in Dete, Zimbabwe’s Matebeleland North Province, an official confirmed on Monday.

Police and rangers from the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) found the 43-year-old victim’s body last Thursday, Matebeleland North Police spokesperson, Siphiwe Makonese, said.

Zimparks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, called for enhanced efforts to address human-wildlife conflict in the country.

“This is one of the issues we always raise that our parks are overpopulated and because of that people are being killed,’’ he said.

“In 2019, we lost 40 people who were killed by wildlife because of human-wildlife conflict.

“We have to make sure people benefit from wildlife than to lose property and lives.’’

There has been a spike in human-wildlife conflict in Zimbabwe, largely attributed to the growing human population that has led to diminishing natural habitat for wildlife.

Nigerian army begins training engagement with Californian National Guards

The Nigerian Army on Monday commenced training engagements with Californian National Guards of the United States.

The engagement which is ongoing at the Warrant Officers Academy in Jaji, Kaduna, was part of the measures toward curtailing security challenges in Nigeria.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai, noted that the engagement with the Californian National Guards on Training Nigeria soldiers was due to the growing insecurity witnessed in the last two decades around the world.

Buratai, represented by the Commander, Infantry Corps, Maj.-Gen. Stephen Olabanji, said that the transnational nature of the security threats necessitated multilateral and bilateral efforts in the forms of alliance and coalition between states and inter-governmental organisations.

According to him, the United States is spearheading the war on terror both within her territory and in faraway regions making her one of the most experienced countries in the handling of irregular warfare.

“This training engagement is timely and a great opportunity for the United States and Nigeria to share their vast operational experiences,” Buratai said.

He charged the participants of the training to derive maximum benefits and the Americans to give their best for the benefit of Nigeria’s peace and security.

Prison warden says Ronaldinho adapting to jail with usual smile

Former Brazil and ex-FC Barcelona player Ronaldinho Gaucho is adapting quickly to life in a Paraguayan jail, the head of the facility told Reuters on Monday.

The former Paris St-Germain (PSG) forward’s lawyers are however hopeful he may soon be released into house arrest while the investigation continues.

“In broad terms he is doing very well,” prison warden Blas Vera told Reuters in a telephone interview. “I see he is in good spirits, just like you see him on television, always smiling.”

Vera said Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto Assis, who were arrested on Friday for using a false Paraguayan passport, would present their case to a judge on Tuesday.

Their lawyer Sergio Queiroz told Reuters they had asked a court to release them into house arrest and offered guarantees they were not a flight risk.

Vera said the 39-year old former AC Milan player and his brother had beds, a television and a fan in their cell at the prison on the outskirts of the capital Asuncion.

The brothers use a communal bathroom and have the right to use the outdoor patio on a regular basis.

The pair’s lawyers have provided them with meals and they have not eaten the food offered by the jail.

The maximum-security facility has around 195 detainees, including politicians and police officers accused of corruption as well as major drug traffickers.

The more dangerous prisoners are housed in a different wing to Ronaldinho, Vera said, adding that he was working to ensure the pair’s stay is “as comfortable as possible”.

Carlos Gamarra, the former captain of Paraguay’s national team who also played for several Brazilian clubs, visited Ronaldinho with a group of ex-players in jail on Sunday.

Vera said others who were at the regular Sunday visiting time befriended the Brazilian.

“There was also a group of boys and girls and he welcomed them, gave them hugs and chatted with them,” he said.

Ronaldinho, who was last year named a tourist ambassador by Brazil’s far-right government, arrived in Paraguay on Wednesday, invited to the landlocked South American nation by a local casino owner.

Although he last played professionally in 2015, Ronaldinho, who also represented Brazilian clubs Atletico Mineiro, Flamengo and Fluminense, is still hugely popular with global football fans and advertisers.

He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and the UEFA Champions League with FC Barcelona in 2006.

Ronaldinho was also named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

EFCC arraigns company MD for N37m oil fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Monday, arraigned the 41-year-old Managing Director of Bravem Services Limited, Ebioenang George, before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for his alleged involvement in a N37m oil fraud.

George was said to have obtained the sum from his victims on the pretext of supplying them with two million barrels of Bonny Light Crude.

He was brought before Justice E. A. Obile by the Port Harcourt zonal office of the EFCC on 23 counts bordering on forgery and obtaining by false pretences.

George, through his company, Bravem Service Limited, while posing as an employee of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, allegedly obtained N37m from his victims on the pretext of supplying them with two million barrels of Bonny Light crude.

The charges read in part, “That you, Ebioenang Monday George, being the Managing Director of Bravem Services Limited, on or about March 11, 2015, at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of N19m from the ICS Energy Limited through your company’s account, Bravem Services Limited, domiciled in First Bank with account number 2016700822 by false pretences, when you presented yourself as an employee of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and capable of selling one cargo carrying two million barrels of Bonny Light crude oil, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) b of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act. Tenant pushes landlady to death over door closure

The family of Olayemi Adetola-Odekoya has been thrown into mourning following her death as a result of a misunderstanding between her and one of her tenants, Saheed Lateef, at their place of residence on Apata Street in the Palmgrove area of Shomolu, Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that Olayemi’s tenants had complained to her about incessant attacks by thieves, who break into the building to dispossess the residents of their valuables.

To curb the attacks, it was learnt that Olayemi called a meeting of the tenants where it was agreed that she would be in charge of locking and opening the building’s main entrance door at night and in the morning.

The times to shut and open the door were also agreed upon at the meeting.

On the day of the incident, Lateef was said to be set to go to work before the agreed time and ran out of patience when efforts to get the landlady to open the door proved abortive.

Olayemi’s daughter, Adejola, said Lateef broke the main entrance door when her mother did not attend to him on time, adding that when the 56-year-old held him by his shirt, he pushed her to the ground.

According to Adejola, the shock of Lateef’s action affected her health, adding that she died while being rushed to hospital.

She said, “Thieves usually break the doors of some tenants to steal their properties and they were complaining to my mum. So, a meeting was held on Sunday, February 3, 2020, with the tenants, where the time to close the door was set. When my mum asked who would be locking the door, all the tenants said they couldn’t and suggested that she should be locking it.

“But she told them that she was not strong to be opening the door before 5.30am, but she would be locking it by 11pm and they all agreed. Around 5am on the day of the incident, Saheed Lateef, aka Daddy Amid, started banging on the door leading to our section of the building and someone opened it and he came directly to our door and started banging on it. My mum felt that he should have knocked on her door instead of banging on it.

“He left and all of a sudden, he started shouting that he was going to break the door. He eventually broke down the door and my mum came out, held his shirt and prevented him from leaving. She said she was going to take him to the Pedro Police Station for breaking down the door. So, he pushed my mum to free himself from her grip and she fell.

“He left with his wife and children and I quickly rushed my mum to hospital, but she died on the way. He didn’t come back home that day, so the police invited his wife to produce him and he showed up in the evening of the following day.”

A source said the landlady died of chest pain, adding that the incident occurred three weeks after she organised the one-year remembrance of her mother.

The source said, “I observed that the landlady’s children were going up and down, but I continued with my work. Around 10.30am, I saw her best friend and her brother in the house and a resident informed me that the woman had died.

“I was surprised because she was not sick. She celebrated her mother’s one-year remembrance three weeks before she died.

“I heard that she and one of her tenants had a fight and in the process, the tenant pushed her to the ground and she complained of chest pain and she died while being rushed to hospital. The police were invited, but the man was nowhere to be found; but the people, who came on condolence visits to the family, said the tenant’s wife had been arrested.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said Lateef had been arrested, adding that Olayemi became unconscious after she was pushed to the ground and was rushed to the Shomolu General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

Elkana stated, “On Monday, February 24, 2020, one Adejola Odekoya reported that around 5am, her mother, Olayemi Odekoya, 56, was pushed to the ground by one Saheed Lateef, a tenant.

“Olayemi became unconscious and was rushed to the Shomolu General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a doctor. The suspect, who initially took off, has been arrested. An investigation is ongoing.”

Shirtless Daniel Craig gives his LAST ever Bond interview

Daniel Craig is about to set pulses racing as he poses shirtless for his last ever Bond interview for GQ magazine.

The 52-year-old discussed his anxieties over the script, admitted feeling 'physically very low' was the reason behind the film's five year delay and said he wants another baby.

The actor, who returns for his fifth and final outing as the spy in No Time To Die, told GQ magazine: 'I was never going to do one again.

'I was like, "Is this work really genuinely worth this, to go through this, this whole thing?"  And I didn't feel... I felt physically really low.

'So the prospect of doing another movie was just, like, off the cards. And that's why it has been five years.'

His last turn as Bond was in 2015's Spectre, which at the time was reported to be his final outing as the spy.
Craig said that the 'physicality' of Bond is "a preparation, in a way", because he would not get the script beforehand.

Coronavirus: US priest who shook hands with more than 500 worshippers infected with virus

Several hundred people have been ordered to self-quarantine after the rector of a prominent church in Washington DC was confirmed as the city's first coronavirus patient.

Reverend Timothy Cole of Christ Church Episcopal in Georgetown remains hospitalised after DC health officials announced on Monday he was infected with the flu-like illness.

City officials are urging all worshippers who visited the church either on 24 February of between 28 February and 3 March self-quarantine themselves for two weeks from the last time they have visited the church.

He was positively diagnosed on Saturday. Reverend Crystal Hardin said that "out of an abundance of caution, Christ Church has cancelled all activities including church services until further notice," marking the first time the church has been closed since a fire in the 1800s.

In an email to parishioners, Reverend Cole wrote: "First, I want to assure you that I will be OK. I am receiving excellent care and am in good spirits under the circumstances. I will remain quarantined for the next 14 days as will the rest of my family."

The district's historic Christ Church was founded in 1817. Reverend Cole has been a rector at the church since 2016.

Washington officials say "several hundred people were impacted and had interactions" with Reverend Cole, which may have included giving communion and shaking hands.

People who came into contact with him are at "medium risk" of infection, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines as s "close contact with a person with symptomatic laboratory-confirmed Covid-19" or being seated within six feet with a symptomatic travellers on an airplane and living the in the same household or caring for a person in a non-healthcare setting with a person who also exhibits symptoms.

Queen meets Anthony Joshua during Commonwealth Day service

He is used to being king of the ring, but  boxer Anthony Joshua came face-to-face with real life royalty when he met the Queen at Westminster Abbey.

The British world champion, 30, was introduced to the Queen, 90, following the Commonwealth Day Service in London  yesterday.

Standing at 6ft 6in tall, charming Joshua towered over the diminutive 5ft 4in monarch during their brief conversation.

At one point he bent down to move his head closer to the monarch's, as if to better hear what she was saying.

Joshua, dapper in a suit and tie, was also introduced to the Duchess of Sussex, 38, who looked stunning in an emerald green ensemble by Emilia Wickstead.

He also shook hands with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his pregnant fiancee, Carrie Symonds.
