London marathon postponed due to coronavirus outbreak

The London marathon was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a statement Friday.

The race was due to take place April 26 and will now be held Oct. 4. The event was expected to draw 43,000 participants.

Brasher promised to post "regular updates" on the race website and social media channels.

Man nicknamed ‘stubborn’ beats wife to coma over divorce

A 33-year-old housewife, Salami Ruth, was beaten to coma by her husband, Salami Olajide (a.k.a Stubborn) at their home on Ijede Road, Ikorodu on Saturday, 7 March, 2020.

The fight followed Ruth’s pronouncement of her resolve to quit the distressed marriage. This however did not go down well with Olajide who allegedly rained blows and even attempted to force sniper, an insecticide down her throat.

P.M. Express learnt that the duo got married about six years ago with three children . The woman who is nursing a six-month-old baby was taken to Ajayi Hospital within the community where she is receiving treatment.

The landlord, Alhaji Lawal Tanimola, who reported the case to the police, told our correspondent on Monday that he was observing his prayer when he heard Ruth’s continuous screaming and also calling his name. He had to discontinue his prayers, called other tenants with whom they forced the door open.

According to him, Olajide would have succeeded in his evil plans but for their prompt intervention. There has never been a week in their nearly-two-years’ stay in his house without turmoil. The couple had a fight when the wife was heavily pregnant and everyone thought the woman was dead as she was grasping for breathe.

‘’We tried to intervene, but the husband stopped us, warning us to back off as we are not party to their marriage. Just like ever before, he was arrested and we all heaved a sigh of relief. But we were stunned to see the man released the next day on the order from above as it was a pure family affair.’’

Another neighbour who spoke to P.M. EXPRESS on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the decision of the wife to decide to call it quit with her aggressor-husband is the best thing that would happen to her; lest she would be found dead sooner than later.

She disclosed that nothing would come out of it if she was killed by “Stubborn” (her husband).

Woman 'dies of embarrassment' when handyman spots s.e.x toy stuck on bathroom wall

A woman was left red-faced when a giant s.e.x toy gifted by her friends as a joke came back to haunt her.

Jem Calvert was cleaning her bathroom one night and came across the s.e.x toy she had forgotten about – so decided to stick it on the wall.

After completing her chores, Jem, who lives in Belfast, went to bed and then headed off to work the next morning without giving it a second thought.

But it wasn't until the civil servant had a visit from a handyman who couldn't help but spot the giant phallus hanging on her wall when he had to use her loo that she remembered her mistake, reports the Daily Star.

Posting on Facebook , Jem wrote: “So I have this hilarious dildo in my house because who doesn’t have one that one of your friends have bought for hilarious jokes."

She continued: "I was cleaning my bathroom last night and bleaching everything and this dildo has been in it for months so I took it out and stuck it on the wall while cleaning because why not.

“[So] I went to bed and then went to work. When I came home home there was a man at my door saying about checking my boiler."

She continued: “I let him in and he asked to use the toilet and I was like ‘yeah there’s loads of bags and rubbish in there so just move it out of the way’.
“I heard the door shut and then I realised about this stupid dildo stuck on the wall and I actually wanted to scream because there was no TV or anything on in my house, pure silence, just me and the dildo and my boiler man.

“This man obviously had to walk past this dildo with it brushing his leg to pee. Please I am so embarrassed and want to die 8 thousand deaths I thought sh*t like this only happened in f***ing movies.”

Jem continued to tell her Facebook friends that when he came out of the toilet, there was a complete silence between them.

Since she shared the hilarious story online, it secured more than 2,100 shares and 5,500 likes from amused pals.

One said: “I am crying.”

Another added: “Best thing I have ever read hahaha.”

It turns out Jem’s boiler man had the same idea, as one Facebook user shared a photo of him posing with the dildo.

He said: “The other day I was at a clients house fixing a boiler when I saw this absolute weapon on the wall.

“When I went out to talk to her she didn’t seem to give a flying f**k – just got tagged in this, turns out she actually did.”

Coronavirus: Tunisia orders quarantine for all visitors

Tunisia’s ministry of health has ordered all incoming travellers, regardless of where they have travelled from, to immediately self-isolate upon arrival to the country.

This latest preventative measure against the spread of Covid-19 is a step up from earlier in the week when this was only a requirement for those coming back from the worst-affected areas.

It is a move that puts a lot of faith in people complying, because in reality the authorities cannot monitor people's behaviour on this scale.

Breaking quarantine rules is a criminal offence here.

It appears the authorities are trying to strike a balance between prevention and containment, and avoiding more stringent measures like further suspension of flights to avoid the severe economic impact that comes with even tighter controls.

Don’t disrespect obas, Alaafin of Oyo writes Fayemi

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has warned the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, against treating the traditional institution in Yorubaland with levity.

Alaafin said unlike in some tribes, where there was nothing attached to their traditional institutions, the Yoruba traditional institution was “ancestral and spiritual.”

The monarch stated this in a letter to the state governor dated March 12, 2020, following a query issued by Fayemi to some prominent traditional rulers in the state over alleged insubordination.

Fayemi, in the query issued individually to the affected traditional rulers by the Bureau on Chieftaincy Affairs dated March 11, gave the monarchs 72 hours within which to reply.

The query, which was entitled, “Re: Absence from State Functions and Council of Traditional Rulers’ Monthly Meetings,” was signed by A.O. Adeoye on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the bureau.

However, in a letter reacting to the query, the Alaafin said he wrote on behalf of other prominent traditional rulers in Yorubaland, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona; and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo Adedotun.

The letter read in part, “Since the case is still in court, we will not want to comment further on it as law-abiding citizens. I, however, would have expected that Your Excellency waits till the end of the court process before acting on the matter.

“It is in this note that I, along with my fellow traditional rulers across Yorubaland feel very sad that Your Excellency issued a query to the 16 Ekiti crowned respected traditional rulers of high esteem in Yorubaland for not bowing their heads to their subordinate by not attending the council meeting under their subordinate. That exercise and without mincing words is to say the least subjudice.

“To some races, nothing outside the mundane is attached to their traditional institution. Whereas, that of Yoruba is beyond the mundane as it is also ancestral and spiritual. The Yoruba oba is the representative of the ancestors, the real owner of the land or ground.

“It is on this basis that we will advise against any attempt to treat traditional institution in Yorubaland with levity and to avoid any attempt of importing any subculture of traditional degradation into Yorubaland.

“It is ironic that while the predecessors in office and ancestors of these 16 crowned obas and their subjects displayed uncommon patriotism, courage and commitment to confront the intimidating military prowess of Ibadan Army for 16 years (1870-1886), Your Excellency as one of the beneficiaries of the legacy bequeathed by these Kings of Yoruba history is now embarking on an exercise that will rubbish the contributions of your ancestors.”

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to Fayemi, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said he was not sure if the governor had received the letter.

Venus and Serena Williams' stepmother accuses their father of 'starving her and their baby son

Venus and Serena Williams' father Richard has been accused by his estranged wife of starving their family to the point that she was forced to sell their motorhome behind his back in order to buy food.

Lakeisha Williams also claims that they'd regularly drive around the poorest areas of Los Angeles and Florida as he enjoyed looking at 'black women'.

The new claims are the latest revelations to come out of the lawsuit the former tennis coach, 77, has filed against spouse Lakeisha, who is nearly half his age at 41.

The pair have been battling it out at Palm Beach County Court, Florida, where he accuses her of forging his signature so that she could remortgage the family home for $300,000 and start a trucking business.

This comes as A-lister Will Smith has been spotted on set portraying the tennis stars' father in the biopic King Richard.

Previously, the court heard that Williams was suffering from dementia and irreparable brain damage, according to his own doctor's statement.

New documents now reveal excerpts from Lakeisha's testimony, in which she admits to forging Williams' signature so that she could sell his 1999 Bluebird Wanderlodge Motor Coach, worth $45,000, to buy food for herself and their son Dylan, now seven.

'Mainly, I was broke by my husband [who] did not help me. It was my son and I not getting any money, so I had to sell it so I can eat and my son can eat… we didn't have anything,' she said.

This statement was ridiculed by Williams' legal team, who said that it is unbelievable the bus would have been sold 'because the marital relationship had deteriorated to the point where Richard Williams was not even giving her any money for her and her baby to buy food, and she had to do so to survive.'

Lakeisha used acquaintance Brandy Clark to sell the motorhome and, then again, when she transferred the family home into her name.

To sell the Bluebird, power of attorney for the vehicle was signed over to Clark and Lakeisha admits to forging her husband's signature on the form.

After the sale of the motorhome, she traveled to a different county to change the property into her name 'because that is where she had accomplices who had worked with her in the past and could help her take the property without Mr Williams' consent,' argue Williams' legal team.

But Lakeisha argues that she went to another county - nearly 50 miles away from their home - because Williams really enjoys to go on 'long drives' to poor areas, where black women live.
In her testimony, she reveals: 'Mr Williams loved - he loves poor neighborhoods. He did likes to drive. He likes to take me like downtown Los Angeles.

He always liked to take me to neighborhoods where, you know, there was black women, because he likes women.'

Williams is trying to speed the legal process up - it's been going through the courts since April 2017 and is due to go to trial in the summer - by asking the judge for a summary judgement due to his failing health.

Coronavirus: Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta makes first public statement after positive test for virus

The Gunners released a statement on Thursday evening confirming that Arteta had been struck down with the virus, and their match against Brighton scheduled for this weekend was postponed.

Since then the Premier League have called off all football until April 4, with teams such as Everton and Bournemouth in self-isolation after a member of their squad also tested positive.

Liverpool 'set to be handed the Premier League title' if season is ended now due to coronavirus crisis

Drastic action is set to be taken if the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) ends the Premier League season completely, though Liverpool are reportedly set to be confirmed as champions.

Following the postponement of the campaign, until April 3 at the very least, big questions are now being asked regarding the possibility of being unable to conclude the English football calendar.

In bold and controversial plans, five teams could be relegated from the top flight and the EFL Cup axed completely in order to facilitate football when it resumes, the Telegraph have reported.
If Government projections over the spread of the virus prove correct, the football season would be pushed back to unexpected lengths, while there is is no regulation governing what happens if the 2019-20 campaign is cancelled outright.

So far there have been 798 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths in the United Kingdom. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi have tested positive, though each are on the road to full recovery.

Premier League leaders Liverpool are 25 points clear of their rivals Manchester City in second, and two more victories for Jurgen Klopp's men will give them the title.

Coronavirus: Brazilian president denies testing positive

Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has denied reports that he has tested positive for coronavirus.

He took to Twitter to confirm he is awaiting the results of a second test on Friday.

Bolsonaro tweeted: "Coronavirus exam done with the team that were with JB in USA have not yet been completed."

Reports in the US and Brazil said Bolsonaro has contracted the virus, which led to a strong denial from the president on social media.

He dined with US President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Saturday night, along with his press secretary, who was diagnosed with the disease following the trip.

Pictures and video show Trump, Bolsonaro and his press secretary Fabio Wajngarten all in close proximity on March 7.

Wajngarten was tested in Sao Paulo and received his positive result on Thursday after showing signs of flu.

Trump however told reporters on Thursday: "I'm not concerned."

According to Fox News, a number of White House officials were called into an urgent meeting in the chief of staff's office.
Bolsonaro appeared on TV on yesterday asking people to avoid the streets, after initially playing down the crisis, saying: "Other flus kill more than this" and also called concern over coronavirus “oversized”.
His son tweeted on Thursday that his father "is not exhibiting any symptoms of the disease".

Policemen chase guest at burial service to death

There was tension at Lemode in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State on Tuesday after a guest at a burial service held in the community, Stanley Ekpenisi, ran to his death while trying to evade arrest.

City Round learnt that some policemen at a police outpost in the neighbourhood had raided a spot where Ekpenisi and other guests gathered around 9am that day.

On sighting the cops, the 38-year-old reportedly took to his heels and they ran after him.

He reportedly wanted to scale a fence when his hands slipped and became unconscious.

He was said to have been taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood where he gave up the ghost shortly after.

Punch correspondent gathered that angry youths staged a protest as the news of Ekpenisi’s death fittered in.

They blamed the police for the incident and attempted to set the police outpost ablaze but for the intervention of the community’s traditional ruler, Oba Solomon Adisa and senior police officers.

It was learnt that the Divisional Police Officer, Agbado Division which oversees the outpost, SP Kehinde Yero and the Area Commander, Sango Ota, ACP Monday Agbonike, prevailed on the youths.

A resident of the area, Wasiu Fatile, told Punch correspondent on Friday that Ekpenisi had attended the burial service of a resident who died few days earlier at Abbatoir Market in Lagos.

He said, “A fence collapsed at the market and it fell on the man who was a trader there. A burial service was organised for the man at Lemode on Tuesday and many people, including Stanley (Ekpenisi) attended the programme. While the programme was on, some policemen raided a spot where some of the guests gathered and people started running away.

“The policemen chased Ekpenisi and he wanted to jump over a fence when he fell. He was unconscious and they took him to a hospital where he died. People claimed they found some wraps of Indian hemps in his pockets but his friends said it’s not true.

“The youth wanted to burn the police outpost where the policemen came from but they were later prevailed upon. Till now, policemen are still at some junctions in Lemode to prevent any violent protest.”

Another resident who identified himself simply as Stephen, said Ekpenisi would have been buried on Friday but his brother who lives in Abuja insisted that he wanted to see his corpse.

“The man fled on sighting some policemen on a routine patrol at Lemode. He wanted to scale the fence and he fell. The youth claimed the police shot him but some community elders followed policemen to the hospital and they confirmed he did not suffer gunshot wounds.

“Yet, many people are not satisfied with the account of those elders who testified to the police’s claim. Everywhere was tense that day but peace has returned now.”

The medical director at the hospital, Dr Sunday Amoo, told City Round that Ekpenisi died about 20 minutes after he was brought to the hospital.

The doctor stated that a test run on him revealed that he was suffering from anaemia (lack of red blood cells), adding that he died before the commencement of blood transfusion.

Amoo, who did not want his hospital’s name in print said, “He was brought in highly unconscious. He was diagnosed for anaemia. His blood pressure was very low at 90/30. He died in less than 20 minutes he was brought in. He didn’t sustain any gunshot wound.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, while commenting on the incident, said police had raided a black spot around the venue of the burial service that day.

It’s not Odunlade Adekola’s turn to be king –Townsmen

News recently spread like wildfire that popular actor, Odunlade Adekola, is set to become the king of his hometown, Otun, in Ekiti State. The reports claimed that it was the turn of Adekola’s family, which is part of the ruling houses in the town, to produce a king.

But, even as the news went viral, the Odunlade Adekola Films Production boss refused to say anything publicly. He neither released a statement to confirm or deny the claim, nor posted any information on his social media pages where he has lots of followers.

However, Saturday Beats’ findings have revealed that it is not the turn of the actor’s family to produce the king of the town.

An indigene of the town who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “There are five ruling houses in the town and someone in his (Odunlade)’s lineage has been king before in recent times. It has not got to his family’s turn but if he is interested in the throne, he can fight for it because the governor (Kayode Fayemi) likes him.

Presently, the five ruling houses are jostling to produce the king and they even visited the governor’s office today (Friday).”

However, another source, who is a prince in the town told Saturday Beats that Adekola actually signified interest to be the king but he was turned down. The prince said, “Contrary to the news that has been flying around, Odunlade Adekola, is not going to be the next king of the town. He said he was interested in becoming the king but he was not accepted because it is not the turn of his family to produce the king.”

Meanwhile, when the news first broke, many of the actor’s fans had expressed worry about whether being a king would signal the end of his career. Some even went on social media pleading with the Abeokuta-based entertainer not to honour the invitation to become a monarch because many of his fans still wanted to be seeing his face in movies.
