Army Officer Who Killed Man In Warri Released By Police? ...here's his identity (details)

The identity of the army personnel, who killed a young man named Joseph Pessu in Delta State while enforcing a stay-at-home order by the state government, has been unveiled, SR can report.

Pessu was shot dead by the army personnel around 10:30am on Thursday at Ada Val Arenyenka Street, Ugbuwangue, Warri, Delta State, while trying to purchase medicine for his pregnant wife.

His killing sparked a protest in the community with his enraged friends and kinsmen blocking major roads to express their anger.

Speaking in confidence with SaharaReporters, a senior police officer in the state gave the name of the killer army personnel as Sergeant Ilekura Samson Ajayi of the Nigerian Army 4 Brigade Benin, Edo State, with force number 02NA/52/3134.

According to him, police preliminary investigation showed that Ajayi is attached to Operation Delta Save, 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Effurun Barracks, Warri.

Operation Delta Save was launched by the Nigerian military to protect oil installations as well as prevent oil bunkering activities in the Niger Delta region.

“Ajayi was deployed to a company called 'B Coy' where they are providing security before the ugly incident occurred at the checkpoint where he and others were deployed to on that fateful day.

“I can conveniently tell you that Ajayi is no longer in our facility at the area command, Warri. He has since been released from detention and if in doubt challenge the police authority to show him to the press. He has been released to the unit of the Operation Delta Save which he is attached to.

“But his release from our detention to the unit of the Operation Delta Save does not make him a free man or left off the hook of the murder because he will be made to face a disciplinary action. He will be court martialled by the army authority,” the source said.

When contacted to know if the suspect had actually been released from police detention in Warri, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said she had no idea about that.

She said, “Well, for now I don't have any more information than his detention. I don't know about his being released.”

Minister Of Communication Tells What He Knows About 5G

As controversy over the link between 5G and COVID-19 rages, Nogeria's Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami has states that he is not aware of any research linking the dreaded virus with 5G.

In an interview on Channels Television’s News At 10 on Sunday April 5, the Minister said he is yet to see any research linking 5G network with Coronavirus amid the discussion on the safety of the technology.

Pantami dismissed speculations about the network and its safety, and further stated that the government does not take decisions based on online speculations.

He said; “Firstly, it is not what is said online that government will work with. We are always taking decisions based on the opinions of experts, based on research.

“When it comes to health, we have (the) World Health Organisation and many health bodies.

“I just want you to bring out any research which they have conducted and (in which they) made their position about 5G’s relationship with COVID-19. I am yet to see anyone from the World Health Organisation.

“This is a body that accommodates our experts in health globally. We have ITU, the International Telecommunication Union.

“I just challenge you to let me know one expert or ITU as a body or any other professional body that conducted research and also made it public that this is the position."

The Minister who revealed that the trial of the 5G network was conducted in Nigeria in November 2019 after it was stalled for about two months, said the government is expecting the recommendations from the stakeholders before deciding whether or not to deploy the 5G network.

The young minister added;
“There is no approval for any operator to deploy 5G; this decision will be taken after research and we are taking our time. Many countries (have) deployed 5G – the US, UK, Germany, South Korea, India, and many more.
“We are not in any way rushing; we are more interested in doing an extensive investigation so that we will be able to come out with something tangible."

Why N13bn Medical Facility In Aso Rock Couldn't Help Abba Kyari

Despite the N13.59bn budgetary provision for the State House Clinic in the last five years under President Muhammadu Buhari, the facility appears ‘unfit’ to treat his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.

Kyari, who tested positive for the COVID-19 after a trip to Germany, allegedly shunned the State House Clinic and the special coronavirus treatment centres in Abuja and moved to a private facility.

Credible sources told Daily Trust that the chief of staff to the president opted for Lagos to get a better treatment for the COVID-19 and other complications because of the deteriorating nature of the State House Clinic.

Facilities at the State House Clinic have been deliberately grounded because of some policies and political intrigues while some equipment could not function because their subscriptions at the factories they were manufactured abroad have not been renewed,” one of the sources said.

“The hospital is not functioning the way it should function because several reagents are also not available,” he said.

Another source said, “The status of the hospital has been changed, it is now not better than any primary health care centre… Therefore, there are certain surgeries or consultations that we cannot carry out even if we have the manpower and the facilities.”

Asked to give more details on the status of the hospital, the source said, “It is not higher than a primary health care centre."

Nigerian In Canada Shows What The Government Sent To Him

What is the essence of people in government positions in Nigeria from the President to Governors to Lawmakers to DGs and Chairmen, who are earning big salaries, if Nigerians can never ever have reasons to collectively benefit from the country's money even in times of lockdown?

It's a pity that things taking for granted in other countries are a lifetime struggle in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Soldiers Wounded In Latest Boko Haram Ambush

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratal on Sunday, April 5, visited wounded soldiers who were injured in action during the recent confrontation between Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and gallant troops of Nigerian military at Gorgi, Borno state, during which 29 Nigerian soldiers were killed and over 100 terrorists annihilated.

I won't close Church for Coronavirus, you can't treat Churches like night clubs - Bishop Chukwuma

Archbishop of the Enugu Province and Bishop of Enugu Anglican Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, yesterday, said the Province will not shut any of its branches over Coronavirus pandemic.

Bishop Chukwuma who faulted the order of government for churches and places of worship not to open, said it was unfortunate and wrong to categorise church with drinking palours, markets, companies and night clubs.

The cleric said he would not shut the churches because he is not the owner, as the church belongs to Jesus Christ, adding that if people were stopped from “running to their God in worship in a time like now the whole world was confusion, where would they run to for safety, help and deliverance?”

He said shutting the church in a trying time like the one faced by the country would mean giving the devil opportunity to ravage the people and the country.

Warning that attacking the church will not bring solution but worsen what we were faced with already, Chukwuma advised that there was need for the country to continue to seek divine solution to the challenge of COVID-19.

The Archbishop, who was reacting to the disruption of worship of some Anglican churches in Enugu, warned security operatives to stop forcing members of the Anglican Church from worshipping in their church buildings, insisting that he had ensured that all hygienic protocols and social distancing practices were kept for the good of the people.

“I have told them (Police) not to try it again unless they want more trouble for themselves and their families. There is no way you can ask the church of God to stop when we need prayers to bring healing upon the land, especially when we are faced with a problem as serious as coronavirus that has defied every human solution.

“It is wrong on the government to send police after worshippers. I think if they are serious, what they should do is to ensure that the hygiene protocol is kept, that the social distancing order is also kept, while encouraging those at the altar to pray the country out (of the pandemic). What can man do under this circumstance without God? What can even the President or our scientists do in this trying time without God?"

A statement released from the 55-year-old politicians office revealed that his case is not an emergency.

He is reported to be in an NHS hospital in London where he will stay for “as long as needed”.

“On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus.” the statement read in part.

Governor Woke Slams Presidency For Giving N10Billion To Only Lagos

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has berated the Federal Government for allegedly politicizing the fight against Coronavirus in the country.

The Governor while condemning the exclusion of Rivers State from the Federal Government grants in the fight against COVID-19, described the selective support as unfortunate.

He also added that despite the exclusion of the state, Federal Government has continued to endanger the State by flying expatriates into Rivers State to drill crude oil.

He said; “It is quite unfortunate that the containment of coronavirus has been politicized by the Federal Government. While Lagos State received a grant of N10billion as a commercial hub,

Rivers State is entitled to support from the Federal Government. Every day, we are inundated with letters from the Federal Government to allow oil companies to fly in expatriates to drill Oil.

Then we ask, what is the status of those coming from Lagos? Nobody has told us their status as regards coronavirus.

If they come to come Rivers without us knowing their status, what will be implication assuming they have the virus.”

Tiger Down With Coronavirus In US Zoo

A big tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York City has tested positive for COVID-19 after apparent exposure to an infected worker.

The four-year-old female Malayan tiger named Nadia was tested out of an abundance of caution after developing a dry cough and a decrease in appetite, the zoo's parent company, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), said in a statement Sunday.

The positive results were confirmed by the USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Iowa.

Six other cats at the zoo, including Nadia's sister Azul, two Amur tigers and three African lions, were also suffering possible coronavirus symptoms, WCS said. They are expected to recover.

Police React Over Death Of DPO After Arresting Ogun Masquerade

The Ogun State Police Command has refuted the claim that the death of the Divisional Police Officer, Ibara Police Station, Abeokuta, Olusegun Dada, is in connection with the arrest of a colourful masquerader.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this clarification on Sunday in a statement following speculations on the cause of death of the DPO.

Oyeyemi said Dada’s death had nothing to do with the arrest of the masquerader, who violated the directive of the state government on the gathering of many people.

The police had arrested a masquerader in Ijeja, Abeokuta for defying the ban on the gathering of many people to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state. Few days later, the DPO of the station died.

But Oyeyemi explained that the late DPO had been on the sick bed for over a month before the arrest of the masquerader.
He said, “Contrary to what the mischief makers wanted the public to believe, the late DPO was not on duty when the said masequerader was arrested, because he was in hospital."
