Football Won't Resume Until Things Are 100% Safe - FIFA

Top flight football leagues and competitions are currently suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, with many fans looking forward to an early return date.

If you were expecting games to return any time soon, well information from FIFA might come as not so good news for you.

World Football governing body, FIFA, has revealed that football activities worldwide will not start until Coronavirus has ended and it becomes safe for people to attend public events and have mass gatherings.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said no ‘match is worth risking a life for’, adding that the association would help financially affected national football federations during the coronavirus pandemic as major leagues and competitions in the world have been halted causing a drastic stoppage of revenue streams.

FIFA last week postponed all international matches scheduled for June and also said players with expiring contracts this summer will have their contracts automatically extended.

“Our first priority, our principle, the one we will use for our competitions and encourage everyone to follow is that health comes first,” he said in a video message.

“I cannot stress this enough. No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life.

“It would be more than irresponsible to force competitions to resume if things are not 100% safe,” added Infantino.

“If we have to wait a little longer we must do so. It’s better to wait a little bit longer than to take any risks.”

“We are today in a very strong financial situation. But our reserves are not FIFA’s money. It is football’s money. So when football is in need, we must think what we can do to help… It is our responsibility and our duty.”

Billionaire Mayweather’s daughter faces up to 99-Years in prison for stabbing her lover's babymama

American boxing living legend, Floyd Mayweather’s 19-year-old daughter could spend decades in prison after being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an altercation with her boyfriend’s baby mama.

Iyanna “Yaya” Mayweather, 19, was arrested earlier this month after allegedly stabbing Lapattra Jacobs, who shares a child with her boyfriend, rapper NBA YoungBoy.

An altercation which reportedly occurred at the rapper’s Houston home on Saturday April 4, prompted a physical fight between the women. It was reported while arguing the two women made their way into the kitchen of Youngboy’s Houston home, where Mayweather picked up a knife and stabbed the Jacobs in the arms.

Iyanna Mayweather was arrested and booked into Harris County Jail after her alleged victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery on her arms.

According to The Blast, Mayweather was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony that can carry a heavy sentence. If convicted on the charge, Mayweather could be slapped with a $10,000 fine or receive up to 99 years in prison.

The Blast also added that it’s unlikely she will receive the maximum sentence, as she doesn’t appear to have a criminal history.

Mayweather is being represented by Kurt Schaffer, a famed attorney who has worked for celebrities like Slim Thug, Pimp C, and J Prince among others.

“Iyanna is doing fine; although she remains shaken by this unfortunate incident."

Buhari To Extend Lockdown In Lagos, Abuja As Coronavirus Cases Rise To 305

There are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may extend the lockdown order in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This came after the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, spoke at Friday’s edition of the committee’s daily media briefing.

The PTF had earlier in the day met with the President at the Aso Rock Villa.

Buhari had, on March 29, ordered the lockdown for an initial period of 14 days to tackle the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

As of that day, Nigeria had 111 COVID-19 cases with one death, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The cases were recorded in 11 states and the FCT.

But as of Friday night, coronavirus cases had increased to 305 in the country after fresh 17 cases were recorded in the country. The states where the fresh cases were recorded were Lagos (8), Katsina (3), FCT (2), Niger (1), Kaduna (1), Anambra (1) and Ondo (1).

While 58 patients had been discharged, seven had died as of Friday night.

The new cases also brought the number of states affected to 18, excluding the FCT.

Lagos, FCT and Osun had the highest number of cases at 163, 56 and 20 respectively.

Speaking at the media briefing, Mustapha said, “The PTF, a small committee of us, this afternoon, had the privilege of further briefing Mr President on the assessment of our response to COVID-19 and, at the appropriate moment, we will continue to adequately inform Nigerians of government decisions.

“The decision on whether to extend the lockdown or not is exclusively the decision or responsibility of the President. Ours (the PTF) is to provide him with first-hand information that would inform that decision. So, I cannot speculate on that now. But looking at what is happening in other climes, you would be able to deduce what might likely happen, but I’m not in a position to speculate on that.

“I believe strongly that the information required to make that decision would be made available to Mr President, who would look at the holistic picture."

AGF Malami To Governors: Release Some Prisoners Immediately

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has written to state governors on the need for speedy decongestion of custodial centres (prisons) in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of the AGF, Umar Gwandu, said the letters were dated April 9, 2020, and entitled ‘Urgent need for speedy decongestion of custodial centres’.

Malami, in the letter, noted that from the available records, the inmate population at the various custodial centres across the country stood at 74,127, out of which 52,226 inmates were awaiting trial persons.

The AGF expressed regret that most of the centres were housing inmates beyond their capacities.

According to him, the development poses a threat to the health of the inmates and the public in general.

The letter read, “Mr President requests all executive governors to request their state chief judges to embark on visits to all correctional/custodial centres within their respective states to identify and release deserving inmates where that has not been done already. ”

The attorney-general asked the judges to consider conditional or unconditional release of the ATPs, who had spent six years or more in custody, as well as those who had no confirmed criminal cases against them.

According to the minister, other inmates to be considered for pardon include the aged, those with terminal illnesses, low risk offenders, and those with no sufficient legal basis to remain in custody.

Also to be considered are convicts of minor offences with or without option of fines and those who have fewer than three years left to serve after serving substantial parts of their jail term for offences that attract five years and above.

Lifting Lockdown Now Will Increase The Spread Of Coronavirus - Governments Warned

This warning is coming timely for some Governors in Nigeria who are relaxing the lockdown for Easter celebrations.

Any premature lifting of restrictions imposed to control the COVID-19 pandemic could lead to a fatal resurgence of the new coronavirus, the World Health Organization has warned.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that while some states were considering ways to ease the restrictions which have placed around half of humanity under some form of lockdown, doing so too quickly could be dangerous.

“I know that some countries are already planning the transition out of stay-at-home restrictions. WHO wants to see restrictions lifted as much as anyone,” he told a virtual press conference in Geneva.

“At the same time, lifting restrictions too quickly could lead to a deadly resurgence. The way down can be as dangerous as the way up if not managed properly.

“WHO is working with affected countries on strategies for gradually and safely easing restrictions.”

Landlord Throws Out Nurse Who Tests Positive While Saving People From Coronavirus

This is sad. A nurse has been kicked out of her rented flat by a heartless landlord after she caught coronavirus while saving lives.
Clara Serrano, 31, says she was told to leave the flat in Madrid, Spain, on the same day she tested positive for Covid-19.

Serrano, who works in a hospital in the Spanish capital of Madrid, moved from the town of Quintanar del Rey in Cuenca to help on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to local media Eldiario, she said: “I arrived in Madrid on 11th of March to start working at the hospital on the 12th. I was sent to a COVID-19 ward.

"On the 19th I started to notice symptoms. On the 22nd I was tested and on the 23rd I was told I was positive.”

The intensive care nurse said she noticed "a tightness in my chest" but put her symptoms down to anxiety as the hospital was "overflowing" with more critical patients needing care.

Serrano said she awoke without smell or taste the day after she noticed initial symptoms,

"And I remember that my eyes hurt a lot that morning. But then it disappeared," she recalled.

The 31-year-old nurse took a test which confirmed she had the dreaded virus..

She said: "Deep down, I knew it. When I called Occupational Health to say that I had gotten up without taste and without smell, they told me that 60 per cent of patients present that symptom.

"There was a lot of talk about fever, cough, and breathing difficulties, and I haven't had any of the three."

Serrano added: “That same day the landlord told me that I had to go away.”

She immediately isolated herself in her bedroom, only going out to use the kitchen, using a separate toilet and telling her three other flatmates she was going to be extremely careful.

However, the landlord reportedly insisted she had to leave the flat.

Serrano said: “I was very scared. I tried to explain to him that I would leave but it might not be immediately but he did not listen to me.

"He did not stop putting pressure on me on the phone and he did not stop telling me that I had to leave immediately.

"I understand the dread, the fear in crisis situations, but things could have been done differently. The man maybe thought he was risky because of his age but we could have talked about it."

She's now staying at a hotel, waiting for a new place.
