Family is left devastated as they lose husband, wife and daughter to coronavirus in two weeks

A mum, dad and sister have died from coronavirus in just two weeks leaving a devastated son and brother feeling like someone has "stolen my heart".

After husband and wife Keith, 84, and Jean MacVicar, 82, died a fortnight ago, their devastated family were dealt another blow when the couple's daughter Jayne also died of the killer bug.

The mum-of-two, 62, developed telltale Covid-19 symptoms soon after her parents' deaths, with her younger brother Richard previously asking friends to pray for her recovery.

He posted on social media: “Come on, Jayne, stay strong and fight this please.”

But on Saturday the 60-year-old said: “It’s with heartbreaking regret to say Jayne has lost her battle for life.

“At least we have the comfort of knowing she is back with mum and dad.

“To lose half your family in the space of two weeks feels like someone has cut me open and stolen my heart. So, so wrong.”

Before her death, tragic Jayne had posted multiple messages on Facebook pleading with Brits not to ignore social distancing guidelines and to isolate at home.

The former Staffordshire Police crime analyst had swapped her profile picture for one that said: "Stay home, it could save lives."

The family, from Burton-on-Trent, Staffs, are now facing three funerals in quick succession with only a small amount of mourners able to attend each one.

Guys & Ladies With Coronavirus Caught In Quarantine Having S*x

At a time when they should be concerned about where they will end - heaven or hell - if they die from the ravaging virus in their body, the big thing in some people's mind is s*x?

Most humans need help from their self sabotaging actions. The report below...

Minister Of Health Reacts To Woman Who Claims FG Is Holding Her Against Her Will In Abuja

Dr Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria's Minister of Health, has reacted to claims made by Mrs. Susan Okpe, the index case of COVID-19 in Benue State that she's being detained by the Federal Government.

The London based woman, in a new video shared online, accused FG of keeping her for treatment against her will.

Reacting to her claim, the Minister at a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday April 14, explained that Mrs. Okpe has been tested twice for Covid 19 and both tests came back positive but that she has refused to accept the results, insisting that they are fake because she is not showing any symptom of the disease.

The Minister said efforts are being made to carry out a third test on her and that if the test comes back negative, she would be discharged.

Lagos Opens Food Kitchen, To Feed People Once Everyday

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday introduced a new scheme to cushion the effect of the lockdown extension in the state.

Sanwo-Olu during a briefing at the State House, Marina, said the government would open food kitchens in all the councils in the state with a target to provide one meal per day to 100,000 persons.

Sanwo-Olu added, “There will also be unconditional cash transfer to 250,000 vulnerable residents and economically challenged persons who have identification numbers with Lagos State Residents Registration Agency.”

The governor urged for calm among residents, saying, “The additional 14 days extension will afford the frontline health workers to ramp up contact identification, testing, and admission of suspected and confirmed cases.”

Man Who Killed Female Evangelist Because Of Her Money Paraded

The Oyo State Police Command has paraded one Olaniyi Abegunde, 34, for allegedly killing a woman evangelist with the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Imole, Agbeni, Ibadan, Mrs Grace Ajibola.

Abegunde, who is a house painter, allegedly attacked Ajibola at her Oluyole residence on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, and went away with some of her belongings, including three Automated Teller Machine cards.

During the parade of suspected criminals at the state police command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, said Abegunde was an errand boy to the victim.

The CP stated, “Abegunde attacked the woman with a wooden object, strangled her and later stole her Tecno mobile phone and three ATM cards, having discovered about N2m in the victim’s account, when she sent him to withdraw money for her.

“The suspect was later arrested in his hideout in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime and explained how he withdrew the sum of N120,000 from the victim’s account.”

Abegunde, a resident of the Apata area of Ibadan, said, “I am a painter and I just got married. My wife is pregnant. I had not killed anybody before now. I have no criminal record. I am from Otun-Ekiti in Ekiti State.

“I met the woman (Ajibola) when I painted her house. This made her to like me. I have been with her for about a year now; I used to run errands for her, such as saving money, buying foodstuffs and so on.

“I knew she was rich. I don’t have parents and I don’t move with bad gangs. I know two of her children. One lives in Ibadan, while the other lives in Lagos. She was not the only one I used to run errands for. I run errands for other elderly people, because I like them.

“I strangled the woman in her home in the morning. The child, who was living with her, had gone to school when I perpetrated the act. I don’t know what actually came over me when I killed her.”

Fire Razes Big Shops in Lekki, Owners Lose Millions

Millions of naira were today lost as fire swept through some shops in Lekki area of Lagos.

The timely intervention of the Lagos State Fire Service saved additional 10 shops from being razed.

The inferno occurred at Peace Estate near Ogidan Bus Stop on Lekki/Epe Expressway.

Acting Head of Lagos State Mrs Margaret Adeseye said the firefighters prevented a row of electronic products’ shops from being razed.

She explained that the fire call was received and Lekki Phase 1 Fire Station was immediately deployed to put out the fire.

The inferno, she said, was burning 19 shops of various sizes, where electronic products of different brands are being sold.

“Nine out of the 19 shops were severely burnt while the firemen were able to save 10 among others with properties worth millions of naira."

Buhari's Village People In Daura Cry Out As Governor Order Lockdown Without Food

Residents of Daura town have declared that the current lockdown in the town and in the entire local government area have made them hungrier as they could not raise money to purchase foodstuffs.

A resident, Barrister Ado Lalu said, “Many of us were unprepared for the lockdown. There is no money to stockpile food items at home. So, some of us who are daily paid workers now have to rely on friends and neighbours to survive. We need some palliative measures to make us survive the lockdown.’’

Another resident, Mallam Lawan Usman, also appealed to the government to come up with palliative measures that would alleviate the sufferings of the poor and the old in the town.

Another resident, Mary Chigozie, who is a teacher at the Federal Government College, Daura, suggested that in addition to the lockdown, government should establish test centres where residents could freely go for test for the pandemic.

Governor Aminu Masari, on Tuesday, however, said the Daura lockdown was done to check the spread of the virus through community transmission.

He said, “There is lockdown in Daura when we noticed that the virus had entered a dangerous stage of transmission – community transmission. I will appeal that we all keep social distancing, maintain personal health and wash our hands regularly with soaps.’’

Masari had last Friday ordered total lockdown of Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.

This followed revelation that samples of three people out of 23 taken for test for COVID-19 from the council came back as positive.

The three people whose samples came back positive were that of the widow and the two children of late medical practitioner, Dr Aliyu Yakubu, who died after returning from Lagos.

Over 100 With Coronavirus Symptoms Located In Houses In Lagos

Akin Abayomi, commissioner for health in Lagos state, says a total of 118,000 households have been reached in the active case search of possible COVID-19 cases in communities.

At a media briefing on Tuesday, the commissioner said community search was activated to limit the spread of the disease in the state which has the highest number of patients in the country.

In the course of the search, 119 persons were found with symptoms of Coronavirus.

Tests are noe being conducted to determine their status.

“We’ve embarked on an active case search in communities. The idea is to go to hot spots and go from door to door with our health personnel. So far, in the last two days, we’ve visited 118,000 households and we’re looking for the typical symptoms of COVID-19. We’ve identified about 119 people who have the symptoms that are suggestive of COVID-19,” he said.

“But let me remind you that COVID is one of the viruses that can cause respiratory symptoms. There are many viruses. So, the idea is to take samples from these 119 and analyse them and that would give us an idea of how much COVID-19 activity is happening in the communities.”

The exercise tagged “Community Active Case Search” was announced by the commissioner last week, and it is expected to run for an initial period of two weeks.

He said those identified to have COVID-19 will be taken to the isolation centres, in order to reduce the opportunities for transmission.

COVID-19: Lagos uncovers 119 with symptoms in just two days of house-to-house search

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said a total of 119 people with COVID-19 symptoms have been identified in the state.

Abayomi, at a briefing of Tuesday, said a total of 118,000 households had been reached in the search of possible COVID-19 cases in communities.

He said community search was activated to limit the spread of the disease in the state which had the highest number of COVID-19 patients in the country.

“We’ve embarked on an active case search in communities. The idea is to go to hot spots and go from door to door with our health personnel. Woman recalls devastating moment her husband stabbed her repeatedly at a shopping mall while pregnant killing her unborn baby

A woman recalled the devastating moment her husband repeatedly stabbed her at a supermarket, killing her unborn baby.

Laura McCarten, 27, was working on a checkout at an Asda store when Paul McCarten, 35, knifed her three times in front of horrified shoppers.

But she Laura somehow survived the harrowing ordeal in January 2002 by a "miracle" and thanks to the intervention of a heroic customer.

And she summoned up the courage to give evidence against her tormentor at a trial that June, leading to him being jailed for 11 years.

This week, the serial woman beater was locked up again, over a campaign of domestic abuse against yet another traumatised partner.

The extent of his disturbing past has now been detailed, which includes the knife attack caught on CCTV, which left Merseyside stunned.

He "pistol-whipped" his estranged wife, had a gun buried in his garden, and threatened to shoot another woman dead.

And it explains why every woman in the city should know his face.

Security cameras captured the moment evil McCarten entered the Asda Huyton store, at around 5.30pm, on January 17, 2002.

They recorded McCarten walking over to Laura and chatting to her at a till, just weeks after she left the love rat because of an affair.

Terrified shoppers could be seen wincing as he then pulled out a seven inch kitchen knife and brought it down from above his head.

He first plunged the blade into his estranged wife's back, between her shoulder blades, as onlookers edged away from the assault.

McCarten struck out again - this time punching the blade through her heart - before chaos took over, as he slashed at her arm.

Miraculously, the victim managed to get to her feet, before McCarten was confronted by brave Kenneth Dawick, a customer in his 60s.

Mr Dawick, who suffered rib injuries when he grappled with the knifeman, forced the would-be killer to drop the blade.

He was hurled to the floor by McCarten, but his heroics gave Laura - who was losing blood by the pint a chance to start running.

McCarten tried to escape but was rugby tackled by an Asda security guard, who risked his own life to prevent any further bloodshed.

The footage showed the guard escort McCarten to a side room, where the knifeman calmly lit a cigarette and waited for police to arrive.

Laura was led to safety in another room by a colleague, as blood poured from her wounds, and paramedics took her away on a stretcher.

During a five-day trial, the heartbroken victim revealed she miscarried two days after the stabbing - having been trying for a child for four years.

She said the attack was one of "too many to remember" and claimed her husband once "pistol-whipped" her until blood gushed from her head.

Laura said he also strangled her until she passed out, and gave her two black eyes, just days before their wedding in the Dominican Republic.

She explained how she learned her husband was having an affair and finally left him on Christmas Day 2001, because of his cheating ways.

Liverpool Crown Court heard McCarten was undeterred and continued to phone his estranged wife, then sent her threatening text messages.

Laura said: "He phoned me and he said 'is it over?'. I said 'yes' and he said, 'you've just signed your own death warrant'."

4-year old boy with cancer beats coronavirus while undergoing chemotherapy

A brave schoolboy has beaten coronavirus while undergoing gruelling cancer treatment.

Tottenham-mad Archie Wilks, four, was diagnosed with neruroblastoma in January 2019 and was undergoing brutal chemotherapy sessions when he tested positive for coronavirus last month.

Parents Simon and Harriet, from Saffron Walden, Essex, were devastated when his test results came back positive.

The couple had done all they could to protect sick Archie from the bug – even taking his twin brother Henry out of school so the family could self-isolate together.

Dad Simon said: "We only had a community nurse visit a couple of times and some trips to the day unit where we kept away from whoever we possibly could and stayed outside to keep away from the waiting room.

But shortly after he was diagnosed he beat the deadly bug. How beautiful!

Ogun to suspend lockdown free days on Friday

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday said the current relaxation of the lockdown in the state from 7am to 2pm would be suspended on Friday.

The governor also said the state would soon commence strict enforcement of wearing of face masks in the public, saying it would help flatten the spread of coronavirus.

The governor in the statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, urged the residents of the state to consider the extension announced by the President on Monday a necessary sacrifice to defeat an invisible and deadly enemy.

He said, “Therefore, the current window of relaxation of the lockdown in the state from 7am to 2pm, which follows the same pattern of last week, will still be available for this Wednesday (15th April) and Friday (17th April, 2020) only.

“This is to allow the residents prepare for the extension of the lockdown and restock on food and other essential items. However, Ogun State borders remain closed.

“It should be emphasised that people should only go out if they need to and are required at all times when outside their homes to wear a face mask, including locally made face masks, even as they observe other social distancing measures.

“The state will soon commence strict enforcement of wearing of face mask in the public as it has been shown to help flatten the spread of the virus.”

United offer Ighalo £200k weekly pay-cut for permanent deal

Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has reportedly been told that he would have to accept a staggering £200,000-a-week wage cut if he wants to seal a permanent move to Manchester United.

Ighalo joined United in a shock loan move from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua in January.

The Nigerian striker has made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford with four goals in eight games, before the season was suspended until due to the coronavirus crisis.

The former Watford striker has never hidden his love for his boyhood club and has hinted that he would be interested in staying at the club beyond the end of the season despite reports of new offers from his parent club but wanted to focus on the current season.

He said, “I’m on loan until the end of the season, which has not expired. Now it’s for us to finish the season very well, and if I do well, score more goals, if possible, then after the season we’ll see what’s on the table.

“But, for now, the season is still on. Even for me, as a person, you can’t start talking about the contract when you don’t know when the season is going to resume. So there’s no need to talk about that, it’s just finishing the season and then see how it goes.

“Of course, I’m enjoying my time there, so if something comes up, why not?

According to the Daily Star, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to offer the 30-year-old a permanent deal ahead of the start of next season but has been told by the club’s management that they would not match the current £300,000-a-week wages Ighalo currently earns in China – and have warned him their offer will be no more than £100,000-a-week.

Ighalo’s current loan deal is due to expire on May 31 and United will look to extend it, with the current campaign expected to run until June and July due to the pandemic.

It remains to be seen if Ighalo, 30, will be willing to take such a huge financial hit.

Police arrest female armourer, recover 21 stolen cars from robbery gang

The Police on Tuesday said they had arrested a female armourer and recovered 21 stolen cars from an armed robbery gang operating at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) car park.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mba said the female armourer was arrested alongside her gang of kidnappers and armed robbers, notorious for attacking innocent Nigerians around Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Niger States.

He said the armourer was responsible for ensuring the safety of the weapons used by the gang whenever not in use.

Mba said she had confessed to being the gang’s armourer for over a year and claimed to had received a handsome reward each time the weapons were returned after each operation.

“She acknowledged knowing that the arms which she usually kept in a neatly dug hole in her compound were used for robberies, kidnapping and other criminal purposes.

“Investigation has shown that the suspect, who is a trader and single mother of two, was recruited by her boyfriend,” he said.

He said the exhibits recovered from the gang were five AK47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one Berretta pistol, 1476 rounds of ammunition and 36 rounds of G3 ammunition.

Others are six AK47 magazines, one operational vehicle, eight mobile phones and a box containing operational tools.

Mba alxo said the Police Special Tactical Squad (STS) had smashed a two-man car stealing gang led by a graduate from one of the Federal Polytechnics in the country.

He said the gang that operates at JUTH car park were arrested after painstaking efforts and investigations by operatives of the STS to hunt down the criminals.

The FPRO said the suspects specialises in using customised master key, crafted out of screwdriver to open and start vehicles.

According to him, police investigations has shown that their choices of cars are ones without special security features such as pedal or steering locks.

He said 21 vehicles had so far been recovered from the hoodlums, adding that 13 receivers of the stolen vehicles had also been arrested in various locations.

Mba said the vehicles recovered are two Opel Vectra, oneToyota Camry, one Honda CRV, two Toyota Carina, seven Golf-3, one Toyota Corolla, six Honda Civic and one Toyota Avensis.

He said the suspects had claimed that they found it easy to steal in JUTH due to the lax security at the premises.

According to him, police investigations has revealed that their choice cars are Toyota and Honda products as well as Volkswagen especially the Golf brand.

“This is because these brand of cars are in high demand by criminal receivers, either in whole or in parts across the country and other neighbouring countries.

“Members of the public whose cars were stolen between January 2019 and March 2020, within the premises of JUTH are advised to come forward for possible identification and recovery,” he said.

Mba enjoined Nigerians to take extra measures to secure their cars by utilising special security features such as steering or pedal locks and tracking systems.

According to him, institutions and organisations are encouraged to enhance security and access control within their premises to minimise the possibility of theft and other mischief by criminals.

He said the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Brazilian governor tests positive for coronavirus

Rio de Janeiro Governor, Wilson Witzel, a leading opponent of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s calls to relax COVID-19 containment measures, said on Tuesday he had tested positive for the new coronavirus.

In a video posted to Twitter, Witzel said he had started feeling unwell Friday, with a fever, sore throat and loss of smell, a key symptom of the virus.

“Today, the test result came back positive… Now, thank God, I’m feeling better, and will continue working while following my doctors’ advice,” said Witzel, 52.

“I ask you once again to stay at home, because this disease, as everyone can see, spreads quickly and doesn’t spare anyone.”

Along with Sao Paulo Governor Joao Doria, Witzel has been one of the leading proponents for closing non-essential businesses and ordering people to stay home to slow the spread of the disease.

On Monday he extended Rio de Janeiro’s stay-at-home measures until April 30.

Those policies have been attacked by Bolsonaro, who accuses them of needlessly wrecking Latin America’s biggest economy over a disease the far-right president has compared to a “little flu.”

Witzel fired back last month that Bolsonaro’s defiance of guidelines from the United Nations and World Health Organization could be considered a “crime against humanity.”

Rio de Janeiro state, home to 16 million people, has registered 224 deaths from the virus so far, second only to Sao Paulo.

Brazil, the Latin American country hit hardest by the pandemic, has registered more than 1,300 deaths.

South Koreans head to polls despite global pandemic

Temperature checks on voters, separate booths for those with fevers, special polling stations for the quarantined: South Koreans headed to the polls on Wednesday with a big turnout expected despite the coronavirus threat.

South Korea is the first country with a major virus outbreak to hold a national election since the global pandemic began, and a complex web of safety measures was spun around the ballot, as well as the campaigning that preceded it.

The parliamentary poll vote kicked off at 6 am (2100 GMT Tuesday) with 43.9 million voters eligible to cast their ballots.

All citizens must wear protective masks and undergo temperature checks at the polling station. Those found to have fever will cast their ballots in separate booths to be disinfected after each use.
Voters have also been asked to wear plastic gloves after cleaning their hands with sanitiser at polling stations, and to keep at least one metre (three feet) apart.

“We are now holding an election at a very difficult time amid social distancing campaigns and a contraction of economic activity,” election commission chairman Kwon Soon-il said Tuesday.

“Please go to the polling stations tomorrow and show that you are the owners of this country.”

South Korea was among the first countries to be hit by the virus outside China, where the coronavirus first emerged.

For a time South Korea had the world’s second-largest outbreak, before it was largely brought under control through a widespread testing and a contact-tracing drive.

Those self-quarantining at home will be allowed out to vote in a 100-minute window around the polls’ 6:00 pm close, as long as they do not show virus symptoms.

Special polling stations were set up at eight central quarantine facilities at the weekend to enable residents to vote.

But anyone who is staying at home and has developed symptoms is effectively disenfranchised.

Campaigning has also been affected by the outbreak: instead of the traditional handshakes and distributing of name cards, candidates have been keeping their distance from citizens, bowing and offering an occasional fist bump.

Many have turned to online media such as Youtube and Instagram to connect with voters, while some have even volunteered to disinfect parts of their constituencies.

Couple plan to marry and have kids with woman they met online in what they call ‘throuple’

A Couple have revealed how they plan to marry and start a family with a woman they met on Instagram, as they celebrate their first anniversary as a ‘throuple’.

Rebecca Grossman, 31, and Dave Gilbert, 37, who met through work 12 years ago, had been in a relationship for a decade when Karla Moreno, 29, sent them an Instagram message out of the blue, asking if they would be interested in exploring a relationship with her.

After a three-day date in March 2019, the trio became inseparable, and just eight weeks later, Karla packed up her life and moved an hour away to Dave and Rebecca’s home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Now, the trio are hoping to make their union official and start a family.

Rebecca, who identifies as bisexual, said: “From that first date, all three of us were inseparable. We had this amazing connection.

“It’s hard to be someone’s everything. You do not have to see one person as your whole thing. There are so many things I can’t give to Dave, but that Karla can give him, and vice versa.

“In a throuple, there’s more love, more hugs and more support. There’s just more to go around. It’s three times the fun, three times the memories and three times the love.”

Rebecca and Dave, who both work as store managers, first began to explore polyamory - when someone engages in romantic relationships with more than one person at the same time – five years ago.

Rebecca said she brought it up as she had experienced it in the past, and found it was the right fit for her as a bisexual.

Dave recalled: “I was never seeking polyamory or a throuple relationship, and had always identified as monogamous.

“Rebecca introduced me to the concept, and once I’d opened up to the idea, I realised all the ways in which it added to my life rather than taking away.

"At first I was worried that it would take Rebecca away from me, but it didn't. It's actually worked for us."

Over the years, Rebecca and Dave dated a handful of other people, but for various reasons, the relationships never worked out.

Meanwhile, retail assistant Karla, who is also bisexual, was having a similar problem.

Having struggled to live monogamously, she had been in relationships with a few couples, but could not seem to strike the right dynamic.

In time, the trio all became part of the same polyamory community on Instagram, where they would chat to like-minded people.

Having first spotted Rebecca and Dave on a dating app in 2018, Karla was initially too shy to message them, but when she found them on Instagram a year later, she decided to go for it.

Karla said: "I was definitely physically attracted to them, but it was also about what Rebecca said that they were seeking. They were looking for equality in relationship, which was what I wanted."

So, she messaged Rebecca to ask if she and Dave would like to meet up.

After speaking for a week online, the trio had their first date at Scottsdale spring fashion show in March 2019.

Italy, Spain partially ease restriction on lockdown despite death of thousands of people

Spain is to allow some non-essential workers to return to their jobs as coronavirus restrictions are partially eased despite the death toll hitting 17,209.

The government tightened the country’s lockdown by halting all non-essential activities on March 30, which confined most of the population to their homes.

Italy is also easing its lockdown - Europe's longest - with shops selling books, stationery and children's clothes re-opened on Tuesday.

Coronavirus ravaged Spain’s death toll figures began to rise slightly at the weekend after recently showing a downward trend.

The country will allow workers in industry and construction to return to work after the two-week shutdown.

Those who can work from home are strongly encouraged by authorities to continue doing so.

In a televised address to the nation Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned Spain had not yet entered the “second phase" in the fight against the coronavirus.

He said a “de-escalation" of lockdown measures will start at the earliest in two weeks and will be “very gradual and very prudent".

“We're still far from victory, from the time when we get normality back in our lives," he said.

“We're all keen to go back out on the street - but our desire to win the war and prevent a relapse is even greater.”
