Harry Potter star Rupert Grint welcomes first child with girlfriend Georgia Groome

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has welcomed his first child with girlfriend Georgia Groome, it has been confirmed.

It first emerged that Georgia, 28, was pregnant in April when she was spotted out with the 31-year-old actor, who played Ron Weasley, with her baby bump on show in north London.

Reps announced on Thursday (6 May) that Rupert and Georgia are now proud parents of a baby girl.

‘Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are delighted to confirm the birth of their baby girl,’ they said in a statement.

‘We would please ask that you respect their privacy at this very special time.’

It makes Rupert the first Harry Potter star out of his main co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to become a parent.

The joyful news emerged just hours after Daniel, who played boy wizard Harry, revealed he had congratulated the couple on their impending arrival.

‘As soon as I found out, I texted him,’ Daniel told Inquirer.

‘I’m incredibly happy for him. He and Georgia have been together for a while. It’s really exciting. It is crazy to think because it’s in my head. It still feels like we’ve basically just met and we are about 16 years old.’

Rupert and Georgia have made sure to keep their relationship as private as possible ever since they were first linked, nine years ago. So much so that loyal fans were shocked to see pictures of the lovebirds together back in 2018.

However, Rupert turned this all around in a very candid interview shortly after turning 30, where he opened up about taking the next step in life.

Chatting to the Guardian, he said: ‘Turning 30 felt strange. It just doesn’t feel like I’m there yet and I don’t know what the future holds.

‘I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters and see what happens.

‘I’d like to settle down and have kids soon.’

But Harry Potter fans were a little heartbroken to find out that Ron was absolutely not at the top of any baby name list if he had a boy.

‘If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It’s quite a good name, but probably not,’ Rupert added.

‘And Grint’s a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with.’

Rupert shot to fame starring as Harry’s sidekick Ron starring in all eight movies.

He’s since gone on to star in Sky One comedy Sick Note, crime drama Snatch and Agatha Christie adaption The ABC Murders.

Georgia is also known in her own right, appearing in 2008’s Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, as well as 2006’s crime drama London To Brighton.

79-year-old disabled woman rescued alive 3 days after son buried her

Police in north-western China’s Shaanxi province has arrested a 58-year-old man identified by his surname Ma for allegedly burying his 79-year-old disabled mother alive.

It is gathered that the woman was rescued from a deserted tomb where her son allegedly by her son buried her alive. She was trapped in the pit for nearly three days, authorities have said.

An investigation into the incident is underway and her son Ma is facing an attempted murder charge.

The woman’s son has been arrested for attempted murder after his mother who he buried was rescued alive.

Disturbing footage shows Ms Wang covered in mud while being pulled out from the burial pit by two police officers.

The police is said to have been alerted by Ms Wang’s concerned daughter-in-law, known by her surname Zhang, according to an official statement.

According to Ms Zhang, her husband pushed his mother out of their family home around 8pm on May 2 but returned home without her.

She said he had told the family he had sent the pensioner, who cannot walk by herself, to visit relatives; but his wife became suspicious.

The police immediately summoned Mr Ma for interrogation during which the son confessed that he attempted to bury his mother alive in an abandoned tomb.

Officials soon located the burial pit and started digging the tomb after hearing someone screaming for help.

They surprisingly found the paralysed mother still alive after nearly three days without food or water.

 She was rushed to a hospital, and is currently in a stable condition.
Ma remains in custody.

COVID-19 Lockdown: Wike orders auctioning of seized vehicles

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says vehicles that were impounded in the state after their owners were caught driving them in violation of the lockdown order will be auctioned.

The Governor said this on Thursday in an interview after he went round to monitor the level of compliance with the lockdown.

“The defaulters will be tried by the Mobile Courts and I have told the Attorney General, all the impounded vehicles must be auctioned. By tomorrow, the Honourable Attorney General would have advertised those vehicles and we will auction them,” he said.

“Some people don’t believe that Coronavirus is in existence. Until you make them understand that we are serious, they will not believe it. We will auction the impounded vehicles.

“Those arrested will face the wrath of the law. Nobody is above the law. We will not allow anyone to sabotage our efforts to protect our people.”

While monitoring the level of compliance, Governor Wike oversaw the arrest of several violators and the impounding of cars.

Some of those arrested were very important persons (VIPS), who were adjudged not to be on essential duties, but were moving around with their police escorts.

The governor, however, allowed a pregnant woman who violated the lockdown order, to go on compassionate grounds.

At the Elekahia Isolation Centre, over 200 persons were arrested and over 20 vehicles impounded by different teams enforcing the lockdown.

South Africa Parliament video call hacked with p.o.r.n.ography

A virtual meeting of South African lawmakers has been disrupted by hackers who flooded the video call with po,rn,ographic images.

In the incident on Thursday, the hackers also hurled racial and sexual insults at the meeting’s chairwoman, Thandi Modise, who is the speaker of the National Assembly.

South Africa’s parliament is closed and all its meetings are currently held by video conference calls as the country remains under strict lockdown restrictions to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

A shocked Modise said that she had earlier warned about using the virtual meetings platform Zoom for the meeting. The parliamentary meeting later continued with a different link.

At least one other South African parliament video call has been similarly hacked.

Zoom has been facing criticism internationally as a result of reports of hackers who disrupt meetings by posting offensive content.

Zomb-bombing, or the hacking of Zoom calls, has been frequent in recent weeks as new users join the platform amid the battle against the spread of COVID-19 and the cancellations of public meetings and events.

I delivered before flight attendants arrived, woman who delivered aboard UAE says

The Nigerian passenger who delivered a baby boy aboard an Emirates Airline (UAE) en route Lagos, Mrs Kafayat Omoshalewa Amusan yesterday narrated her ordeal, saying she delivered her baby before flight attendants could get to her.

In an exclusive telephone interview from her hospital bed in Dubai, Kafayat, a 32-year indigene of Ibeju Lekki in Lagos had desired to come home to have her third baby in Nigeria on or before May 30, but for flight cancellations.

Narrating her Labour experience aboard the Emirates Airline flight evacuating 256 Nigerians from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the banking and finance graduate who left Nigeria seven years ago.

“I can’t really describe my experience as real labour, but a forced one that can be attributed to a series of stress that I went through a few days before I embarked on the voyage.

“My actual due date was May 30 and my husband and I had agreed for me to come home to deliver. I had resigned my appointment two months earlier and had actually bought a ticket preparatory to return to Nigeria before the lockdown with the grounding of flights worldwide.

Continuing, Kafayat said they were praying for a chance, when stumbled on a Facebook posting apparently by Nigerian authorities asking willing Nigerians to register for possible evacuation to Nigeria and “I jumped to it. In fact, I was one of the first persons to book for the flight because I want to have my baby in Nigeria..

“But surprisingly, I delivered by myself inside the plane even before the flight attendant could get to me. It was a miraculous act that is beyond my imagination,” she narrated.

Asked to explain co-passengers’ reaction, she narrated that she was in the business class with two other passengers beside me who were so scared and surprised and didn’t know what to do.

“Actually, my husband and I decided that I come back to Nigeria to have this baby.

“So, I have to resign from my place of work and it was during the process of my documentation that the issue of Covid-19 started and all airlines were stopped from an operation. Immediately I saw the advert that Nigeria embassy will repatriate on Facebook, I quickly filled the form and I was listed among those that will be repatriated.

“We were initially scheduled to leave Dubai on April 26, but unfortunately the flight was cancelled until another opportunity came on Wednesday and I prayed and wished that I get to Lagos before the delivery.

“But when the mild pain started, I thought it was just stomach pain. Honestly, I prayed silently for God to let get to Lagos since the journey was just seven hours,” Kafayat continued.

Asked how she feels that she’s back to Dubai, the mother of three said: “To be sincere I am not happy. I resigned two months ago and started the process of coming back to Nigeria and the Covid-19 issue started, and again I am back in Dubai instead of being in Nigeria with my children.”

When asked about the new baby, she said they are both in excellent condition. “We are pretty fine to the glory of Almighty God. No complication, though we are still in the hospital with the baby still in the nursery section.

“I am so grateful to God and all Nigeria government representatives here in Dubai, especially Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa who called to congratulate me early this morning (Thursday)”

Kafayat has been in UAE for seven years where she has worked in the Alshaya Company as an administrator.

The mother of three has only one advice for Nigerians wishing to come to the Arab nation, saying: “Anyone planning to come to Dubai must make proper arrangement before taking the decision because the Gulf countries are not the same as European countries or America.”

The 32-year old Nigerian who is yet to see her new baby because he’s in the nursery session appealed to the Nigeria government representatives to come to her aid.

“I am in need of help from the Nigerian community in Dubai. They should please come to my aid. I have to process my baby’s documents and other things. I really need their support now,” she pleaded.

Nigeria records 381 new cases of COVID-19, total now 3526

Nigeria has recorded 381 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 3526.

This was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on Thursday via its verified Twitter handle.

The 381 new cases are the highest Nigeria has ever recorded in 24 hours since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Nigeria has 22,492 samples tested in its ongoing campaign against the deadly COVID-19, which is far less than Ghana and South Africa that have conducted over 100,000 and close to 200,000 testings so far, with South Africa increasing its daily tests to more than 10,000 a day.

This latest update as of May 7 by NCDC shows that Lagos has the highest number of 183 new cases, Kano (55), Jigawa(44), Zamfara(19), Borno(9), Bauchi(19), Katsina(11), Kwara(8), Kaduna(7), Gombe(6), Ogun(5), Sokoto(4), Oyo(3), Rivers(3), Niger(2), Akwa Ibom(1), Enugu(1), Plateau(1)

Four deaths were recorded and no new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

Till date, 3526 cases have been confirmed, 601 cases have been discharged and 107 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Kogi and cross river remain only states without cases.

Lagos remains the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 1,491 confirmed cases out of 3526 across Nigeria.

Ekiti to prosecute soldier’s wife for importing covid-19

Ekiti State Government has said it will prosecute the soldier’s wife who came into the state from Katsina State with covid-19 despite the lockdown order and prohibition of inter-state movement.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said on Wednesday that the woman who came to visit her husband had committed an offence and would face prosecution.

Yaya-Kolade said, “Though it was the husband who alerted us, it is an offence against the state and the Ministry of Justice will take appropriate actions against her at the right time.”

She said the woman’s husband who was her only main contact had been quarantined for 14 days in line with the World Health Organisation guidelines.


The state government also said it had arrested 10 people and had kept them in quarantine following measures to prevent coronavirus spread in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Health, Dr Jimlas  Ogunsakin, said seven of them returned to the state from Kano State. He said three others who are women forcibly entered the state.

Ogunsakin, who made the revelation in Ado Ekiti during an update on COVID-19 in Ekiti on Wednesday, said the women would be prosecuted.

He said,  “We got several tip-offs from people and we acted on them. The Kano returnees came to Adeparusi Estate in Adebayo and some came to Atinkankan area. We got the information from the public and we got them arrested and they were quarantined immediately.”

Professor behind UK's lockdown plan quits his job after he broke lockdown rule to meet married girlfriend

A senior government science advisor has resigned after breaking lockdown social distancing rules to meet his lover, it has been reported.

It was Professor Neil Ferguson's advice that prompted Boris Johnson to put Britain in lockdown.

He sat on the government's SAGE committee, which provides advice to ministers on their response to the pandemic.

He also sat on the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (NERVTAG).

The Government Office for Science confirmed he had 'stepped back' from both bodies.

Professor Ferguson, nicknamed "Professor Lockdown" is an infectious disease epidemiologist at Imperial College London, said he believed he was immune to the virus, after self isolating with symptoms in March.

He leads the team that produced shock research claiming more than 500,000 people would die from the virus in the UK unless lockdown restrictions were introduced.

It's claimed his lover travelled across London on two occasions to spend time with the expert.

He told the Telegraph: "I accept I made an error of judgement and took the wrong course of action. I have therefore stepped back from my involvement in SAGE [the government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies].

“I acted in the belief that I was immune, having tested positive for coronavirus and completely isolated myself for almost two weeks after developing symptoms."

He added: “I deeply regret any undermining of the clear messages around the continued need for social distancing to control this devastating epidemic.

“The Government guidance is unequivocal, and is there to protect all of us.”

According to the Telegraph, Mr Ferguson was visited twice by Antonia Staats, a campaigns manager for US-based non-profit organisation Avaaz.

Ms Staats, 38, is thought to be married, but in an open relationship.

She lives with her husband and their two children in a £1.9m South London home.

Florida homeowner shoots and kills 17-year old who was 'attempting to break into cars parked outside his home'

A Florida man shot and killed a 17-year-old burglary suspect in what authorities say will likely be investigated under the state's 'stand your ground' statute.

Adrein Green was found collapsed in the street with a gunshot wound at around 1.15am on Tuesday, minutes after a man called 911 and said he'd shot someone outside his home in Sanford.

Investigators said Green was burglarizing cars parked outside the gated home when the owner, who has not been identified, opened fire from his front door.

In audio from the 911 call, the homeowner is heard explaining how his wife woke him up when she heard noises outside while she was up feeding their baby.

He said that he believed someone was trying to break in to the home, so he grabbed his firearm and went to investigate.

'Are there any weapons,' the dispatcher asked.

'Yes. I just fired a shot, he came by. Help me out, please help,' the caller said.

Asked whether the teen was armed, the caller said he wasn't sure.

'I don't know he just ran, he just ran, he faced me and I got super scared and my wife was behind me with the baby cause we kept hearing like a big bump, we kept hearing something,' he said, later adding he wanted to scare the unknown person off.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith played the audio at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon and told reporters that preliminary evidence shows the homeowner was about 20 feet from the victim when he opened fire. 

Green took off on foot after he was shot, and police officers found him lying in the road nearby minutes later.

Smith said the officers performed life-saving measures before first responders arrived and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The investigation has now been turned over to the state attorney's office, Smith said.

Somalia 'risks being overwhelmed by coronavirus'

A global charity has warned that Somalia is being overwhelmed by a spike in coronavirus cases.

The International Rescue Committee said the situation was on the verge of spiralling out of control, with widespread community transmission and inadequate health care.

It said the official figure of 835 confirmed cases was far from reality.

The group's comments echoes a statement from the mayor of Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, earlier this week. Omar Filish said the city had seen an unusual number of deaths recently and warned that the country was under-counting cases of coronavirus.


Somalia is already struggling with the worst locust invasion in 25 years, plus a drought and floods - as well as conflict.

More than five million people need humanitarian aid to survive in the country.

Drama on radio as Liberian official refuse to talk about President Weah's coronavirus status

There was a drama on the radio in Liberia's capital, Monrovia, on Wednesday morning over public concerns that President George Weah had neither gone into isolation nor tested for coronavirus after his information minister had gone down with the virus.

Eugene Nagbe tested positive for Covid-19 just three days after he was seen sitting side by side with President Weah.

But while some expected the president to self-isolate or get tested, he was instead seen in the public distributing face masks.

The head of the National Public Health Institute, Dr Mosoka Fallah, appeared on a radio talk show to update people on the latest coronavirus news and take questions from the public.


One caller asked if he was going to advise President Weah to get tested. In response, Dr Fallah said he thought the question was political and told his audience he was not going to discuss Covid-19 contacts in the public.

Talk show host Clarence Jackson tried in vain to get the official to respond directly to the question.

The president's deputy press secretary, Smith Toby, had confirmed the president had not been tested following his interaction with the information minister.

The radio discussion has got people questioning the sincerity of those leading the Covid-19 effort.

Floods kill 200 people in Kenya after heavy rains

Floods and landslides in Kenya have killed nearly 200 people since heavy rain began last month across much of the country.

Another 100,000 people have been displaced.

A statement from the presidency said thousands of hectares of crops had been swept away.

The rain is expected to continue for weeks.


There are fears that two hydroelectric dams could burst their banks.

People living downstream from the dams have been told to leave their homes and seek higher ground.

The Kenyan government says the floods will complicate efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed 26 people.

The producer was released after medical reports showed that late video vixen Kodak died as a result of electric shock while charging her phone. .

Since his arrest his father, the Afro juju icon, Sir Shina Peters has been a regular face at the Panti Police station. They were all released to him.

Trigger-happy policeman shoots web designer for driver’s error

A website designer, Martins Omaruna, has been wounded after a yet-to-be-identified policeman shot him in the jaw.

Punch correspondent gathered that the policeman was angry that the driver of a commercial bus conveying the victim almost hit him during a stop-and-search at the First Junction area of Benin City, Edo State.

The policeman was said to have aimed his gun at the driver and opened fire; however, the bullet hit Martins in the jaw.

The 24-year-old Martins, who told our correspondent that he could no longer eat or talk properly as his jaw had to be stitched, demanded the arrest and prosecution of the trigger-happy cop.


Recounting his ordeal, Martins stated, “There was traffic around the First Junction area of Benin on Friday, May 1, 2020, due to the checkpoint that was mounted there and the driver of the commercial bus that was conveying me tried to avoid the traffic and in a bid to stop him, one of the policemen stood in front of his bus and because the driver stopped abruptly, the bus almost hit him.

“The policeman got angry and shot at the driver, but the bullet pierced through my jaw and immediately the cops at the checkpoint realised what had happened, they took to their heels and left us to our fate. It was a good Samaritan, who took me to the nearest police station to report the incident and from there, I was taken to the Central Hospital, Benin, from where I was referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

“My jaw was stitched at the UBTH; I cannot eat or talk well with my lips. I’m in pain. I want the policeman who shot me to be found and prosecuted, because he has given me a lifetime scar.”

Martins’ mother, Helen Omoruna, who lamented the amount she had spent since the incident happened, also called for the arrest and prosecution of the cop.

She stated, “The police said I should be keeping the receipts of the medical bills, nobody is taking care of the bills, I don’t have money, I am a widow trying to survive with my children and they have not arrested the policeman who shot my son.

“I don’t know why the policeman would shoot my son; if he wanted to stop the bus, he should have shot at the tyre and not at a human being. I want justice to be served.”

Punch Metro learnt that the matter was reported at the Adesua Division.

However, when contacted, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, claimed that the man, who shot Martins, was not a personnel of the Edo State Police Command.

“The person, who shot the young man, is not by any means related to the Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Command. It was between the vigilante group and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the matter was reported at the Adesua Division, where investigation is ongoing.”

I have no apologies for using Chloroquine to cure coronavirus - Bauchi governor

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed says he has no apologies for backing the use of Chroloquine and  Zithromax to treat coronavirus patients in his state.

The ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who was the state’s  Covid-19 index case,  had said he was treated with the drugs while in self-isolation, after he tested positive for the killer virus on March 23.

And Mohammed said he suffered criticism for authorising the use of the drugs to treat the disease in the state.

However, the governor said he did not recommend any self-medication.

He said, “Pertaining what I said about the use of chloroquine, Zinc, Zithromax and Vitamin C for the treatment of COVID-19. I was misquoted. I was once a COVID-19 patient. How did I get cured? I only made a recommendation and it was not a recommendation of the committee for COVID-19 in the state.

“I have no apologies for saying that I used chloroquine, Zinc, Zithromax and Vitamin C to get cured, but Allah cured me.

“It is not Chloroquine or anything, many countries are using modern medicine to combat the pandemic. It is common knowledge that COVID-19 has no vaccine and drugs, we are just groping in the dark. But if you have symptoms of fever, you take chloroquine and cure it.

“If you have symptoms of infection, you take Zithromax and cure it. If you have symptoms of weakness, you can take Panadol to cure it. You don’t need a doctor. However, doctors are prescribing.

“I did not take these drugs on my own, I took  them  based on the recommendation.”

Eight dead, hundreds injured in India gas leak

Eight people have died, with hundreds of others taken ill, after a gas leak in south India. The leak, in the city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state, has been traced to the LG Polymers plant.

Doctors say "hundreds" of people have been taken to hospital - many complaining of a burning sensation in the eyes and difficulties breathing.

The incident, which took place around 03:00 local time (21:30 GMT), may have been due to negligence, officials say.

The leak occurred when the plant was being re-opened for the first time since 24 March when India went into lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The state Industries Minister Goutam Reddy told BBC Telugu that it looked as though proper procedures and guidelines were not followed when the plant was being re-opened.

As the gas spread, residents ran out of their homes in panic. Distressing visuals of people fainting and dropping unconscious on the streets are being shared on social media.

Some factory employees are believed to have been inside when the leak occurred, but officials say they have no information about them.

It is feared that the fumes have spread over a radius of about 3km (2 miles) and officials have been evacuating people from surrounding areas.

A senior district official said that initial attempts to control the gas leak were unsuccessful. However, local news agencies have reported that the situation is now under control.

FG, states’ll feed schoolchildren at home, minister insists

The Federal Government, in partnership with states, is set to start feeding schoolchildren in their home, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, announced on Wednesday.

On April 8, The Punch reported that the Federal Government had finalised plans with state governments to start feeding schoolchildren in their respective homes.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, Umar-Farouq said the government had overhauled the school feeding programme in a way to ensure that schoolchildren were fed at home despite the lockdown.


She said, “We have made progress in the overhauling of the homegrown school feeding programme and sensitisation has already begun in the three frontline states of Ogun, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory for implementation.

“The overhauling was sequel to a March 29, 2020 directive by Mr President to identify modalities and continuation of the school feeding programme during the COVID-19 pandemic in the lockdown states as of then.”

She noted that following the directives, her ministry in the collaboration with state governors worked out modalities for the implementation home feeding programme, adding that the initiative was set to commence.

“The plan has been adopted, with implementation now set to begin. The programme will therefore be carried out based on data provided and structures put in place by participating states with support from partners that include the World Food Programme.”

The minister had explained that the food would be distributed door-to-door, as vouchers would be allocated at specific collection times to avoid overcrowding.

She explained that the vouchers would be redeemed at designated distribution sites.

This came as the Federal Government on Wednesday handed food items to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for vulnerable women across the country.

Why I Referred To Abacha Loot As "Abacha's Assets" - AGF Malami

Abubakar Malami SAN, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice has faulted those criticising him for describing the recently repatriated Abacha loots as "Abacha assets".

Malami in a statement said while the money was a loot, it automatically becomes an assets when it is returned to the federal government.



“Attention of the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has been drawn to needless media hype relating to purported characterization of the recovered assets associated with former Head of State, General Sani Abacha as “Abacha Assets”.

The office maintained that the choice of words was deliberate”.

“It is to be noted that by way of antecedence that Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN has been consistently describing the recovered funds as “Abacha loot” at several fora during the process of recovery of the looted funds, particularly before the eventual repatriation of the funds”.

“The point needs to be made that when the seal of legitimacy was appended to the funds by way of repatriation it became an asset in favour of the Federal Government as a beneficial owner of same”.

“This is contained in a statement issued by Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday 6th May, 2020”.

Beyond the issues of verbal dexterity and vocal acrobatics, Nigerians should focus more on effective utilisation of the recovered looted funds in accordance with the content of the signed tripartite agreement in the interest of the Nigerian public”.

"I Have No Apologies Using Chloroquine To Cure Coronavirus" - Governor Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed says he has no apologies for backing the use of Chroloquine and Zithromax to treat coronavirus patients in his state.

The ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who was the state’s CoVID-19 index case, had said he was treated with the drugs while in self-isolation, after he tested positive for the killer virus on March 23.



And Mohammed said he suffered criticism for authorising the use of the drugs to treat the disease in the state.

However, the governor said he did not recommend any self-medication.

He said, “Pertaining what I said about the use of chloroquine, Zinc, Zithromax and Vitamin C for the treatment of COVID-19. I was misquoted. I was once a COVID-19 patient. How did I get cured? I only made a recommendation and it was not a recommendation of the committee for COVID-19 in the state.

“I have no apologies for saying that I used chloroquine, Zinc, Zithromax and Vitamin C to get cured, but Allah cured me.

“It is not Chloroquine or anything, many countries are using modern medicine to combat the pandemic. It is common knowledge that COVID-19 has no vaccine and drugs, we are just groping in the dark. But if you have symptoms of fever, you take chloroquine and cure it.

“If you have symptoms of infection, you take Zithromax and cure it. If you have symptoms of weakness, you can take Panadol to cure it. You don’t need a doctor. However, doctors are prescribing.

“I did not take these drugs on my own, I took them based on the recommendation.”
