Mother of two kicked out by landlord seeks help after being gang-r.a.p.e.d in front of her children

A 27-year-old mother of two who was kicked out of her house in Mihango, Nairobi is pleading for assistance after thugs gang-r.a.p.e.d her in front her children at an unfinished building where she took shelter.

The woman, Elizer, not her real name, said that she was locked out of her house a month ago and took to sleeping outside with her children.

Elizer told K24 Digital that she was evicted over two-months rent arrears amounting to Sh11,000.

On her r.a.p.e ordeal, Elizer said that the cries of her little ones, a three-year-old girl and seven-year-old boy at night attracted the attention of her two assailants.

The thugs, she said, took advantage as it was raining heavily outside and there was no one to respond to her cries for help.

She said that her business, hawking fruits on Mombasa Road, has been hit hard by Covid-19 pandemic as customers have dwindled and prices for stock spiked.

For months now, she has sought alternative livelihood but to no avail. During the day, she spends on a rooftop of an unfinished building and during the night begs strangers for accommodation.

Elizer said that she has tried making a living as a laundrywoman but many people are shirking from hiring for fear of contracting Covid-19.

Now, she seeks any help she can get to seek medical treatment following the r.a.p.e ordeal and for food for her two little children.

Europe's wealthiest man, Bernard Arnault, has lost $30BILLION during coronavirus crisis

The richest man in Europe has has lost an astonishing $30billion during the coronavirus pandemic - more than any other person in the world, as calculated by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Frenchman Bernard Arnault is the chairman and CEO of the prestigious luxury empire LVMH Moët Hennessy and the third-richest billionaire worldwide, according to Forbes.

The 71-year-old father-of-five oversees a portfolio of 70 luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton and Sephora, many of which have taken a colossal financial battering amid the coronavirus crisis.

The widespread economic devastation caused by the spread of the killer bug has seen LVMH shares plummet by 19% in a year, Bloomberg reported.

It means Arnault's net worth has plunged by a staggering $30billion. Bloomberg reported that this means he has lost more than any other individual in the world.

As of May 6, the businessman had lost as much money as Jeff Bezos, chairman of Amazon.com Inc has gained, the news site reported.

Arnault is currently worth $77billion according to the Index, which is updated daily.

The majority of Arnault's luxury good brand stores have been shuttered for more than a month, leading to billions in lost revenue, as lockdown measures to contain coronavirus plunge the global economy into its worst crisis since World War II.

Many of Arnault's flagships brands including Louis Vuitton - believed to have an astonishing profit margin as high as 45% - may no longer be seen as priority purchases for potential consumers.

Arnault is also due to pay out $16billion after striking a deal in November last year for the jewellery group Tiffany & Co, Bloomberg added, which is believed to be the largest luxury acquisition ever.

Anna Nicole Smith's ex, Mark Hatten, killed in a shooting

An ex-boyfriend of Anna Nicole Smith -- who went to prison for threatening her and assaulting her neighbor -- has been killed in a shooting, TMZ has learned.

Mark Hatten died Sunday after an incident with another man in Greeleyville, South Carolina turned deadly. It's currently unclear what led up to the shooting.

Hatten, reportedly known as 'Hollywood' in Greeleyville, did have a Hollywood past with Anna Nicole ... but it didn't end well.

According to the famous late Playmate's testimony in 2002, she began dating Hatten in early 2000 and the 2 had a sexual relationship until June 2000, when he allegedly confronted her with a knife in the bedroom of her home.

She broke up with him, but Smith claimed he continued to stalk and threaten her for nearly 2 years afterward. In March 2002, he showed up at her home and assaulted her neighbor when the man asked Hatten to leave.

He stood trial and was found guilty of making criminal threats against Smith and attacking her neighbor. He was sentenced to nearly 7 years in prison.

American town puts all its residents on a diet to combat obesity during lockdown

Health officials are putting an entire Long Island town on a diet to drive down rising obesity rates amid the coronavirus pandemic.

With many stuck in their homes - ordering take-out and stress eating - a weight gain phenomenon has emerged nicknamed the 'Quarantine 15.'

Now, doctors and fitness instructors in Huntington, which has about 200,000 residents, are introducing a voluntary healthy lifestyle and exercise program.

They say that obesity and obesity-related conditions are very serious risk factors in Covid-19 cases and that reducing the number of overweight residents will also reduce the number of coronavirus patients.

'We're bringing attention to this issue because the quality of our health is more important than ever,' Dr William Spencer, chairman of the Suffolk County Legislature Committee on Health, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

'As we slowly work our way out of this crisis, it is important for us to make healthy choices...so we need to take charge of the situation.'

Currently, 42.4 percent of the US adult population is obese as are 18.5 percent of American children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Obesity is a known risk factor for several chronic health conditions including type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart attack and even certain types of cancer.

Nearly 20,000 Georgia teens granted driver’s licenses without road test

Nearly 20,000 Georgia teens were reportedly granted a driver’s license without passing a road test as a result of an executive order aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

Governor Brian Kemp last month signed the order that suspended road tests for most drivers in the state seeking their licenses.

“There have been 19,483 teens who upgraded their permit to a provisional driver’s license with the consent of their parent or responsible adult,” Susan Sports, a spokeswoman for the state’s Department of Driver Services, told The New York Times.

“These teens held a permit for a year and a day and complied with all Georgia’s mandatory driver education requirements,” Sports said.

Willa Pevey, a 17-year-old from Tucker, Georgia, was relieved the test was nixed.

“I had been nervous about the driving test -- with the parallel parking and all that,” Pevey told CNN. “So I was happy that I didn’t have to do it.”

But there were also some dissenters in the state.

Sarah Casto, a driving instructor, created an online petition calling on Kemp to reverse the order, according to the Times.

“We understand that this is supposed to be temporary, but the ramifications from even a few weeks of unskilled drivers getting their license can be catastrophic,” wrote Castro.

Putra suffers from severe Neurofibromatosis - a genetic disorder that affects the growth and development of cell tissue.

He faces shortness of breath and cannot walk due to the staggering weight of the tumour.

Putra said, 'I often groan in pain...the weight breaks my back. It is very heavy and I experience shortness of breath.'

His parents - father Ismed Triad, 60 and mother Eridah, 52, took him to a local doctors when they noticed the blemish but were told there was nothing to worry.

Because they didn't have the money, Mr Triad, who is a porter at a traditional market, couldn't take his son for an advanced medical examination.

Supreme Court orders fresh trial of Orji Kalu, others

The Supreme Court has quashed the judgement that convicted and sentenced the former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor-Kalu to 12 years imprisonment.

In a unanimous judgement on Friday by a seven-man panel, led by Justice Amina Augie, the Supreme Court held that the Federal High Court in Lagos, which tried and convicted  Kalu, his firm – Slok Nigeria Limited and his former aide, Jones Udeogu, acted without jurisdiction.

The Supreme Court then proceeded to set aside the judgement that convicted the defendants and ordered a fresh trial of the defendants by another judge.

The Court was of the view that Justice Mohammed Idris, who conducted the trial, was no longer a judge of the Federal High Court as at the time he sat and delivered the judgement that convicted the defendants for allegedly stealing about N7.1billion from Abia state treasury.

The Supreme Court added that Justice Idris, having been elevated to the Court of Appeal before then, lacked the powers to return to sit as a High Court Judge.

The Court said the fiat that was issued to Justice Idris by the Court of Appeal President, pursuant to Section 396(7) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was unconstitutional.

‎A Federal High Court in Lagos ‎ had on  December 5, 2019 sentenced Orji Kalu, to 12 years’ imprisonment for N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering. The court convicted Kalu, now a senator, on all the 39 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charge. Kalu was charged alongside a former Commissioner for Finance, in the state Jones Udeogo, and his company, Slok Nig. Ltd. While Kalu and his company were found guilty of all the 39 counts, Udeogo was convicted on 34 counts and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Beautiful Nigerian Woman Who Delivered Aboard UAE Flight Shares Her Experiance

The Nigerian passenger who delivered a baby boy aboard an Emirates Airline (UAE) en route Lagos, Mrs Kafayat Omoshalewa Amusan yesterday narrated her ordeal, saying she delivered her baby before flight attendants could get to her.

In an exclusive telephone interview from her hospital bed in Dubai, Kafayat, a 32-year indigene of Ibeju Lekki in Lagos had desired to come home to have her third baby in Nigeria on or before May 30, but for flight cancellations.

Narrating her Labour experience aboard the Emirates Airline flight evacuating 256 Nigerians from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the banking and finance graduate who left Nigeria seven years ago.

“I can’t really describe my experience as real labour, but a forced one that can be attributed to a series of stress that I went through a few days before I embarked on the voyage.

“My actual due date was May 30 and my husband and I had agreed for me to come home to deliver. I had resigned my appointment two months earlier and had actually bought a ticket preparatory to return to Nigeria before the lockdown with the grounding of flights worldwide.

Continuing, Kafayat said they were praying for a chance, when stumbled on a Facebook posting apparently by Nigerian authorities asking willing Nigerians to register for possible evacuation to Nigeria and “I jumped to it. In fact, I was one of the first persons to book for the flight because I want to have my baby in Nigeria..

“But surprisingly, I delivered by myself inside the plane even before the flight attendant could get to me. It was a miraculous act that is beyond my imagination,” she narrated.

Asked to explain co-passengers’ reaction, she narrated that she was in the business class with two other passengers beside me who were so scared and surprised and didn’t know what to do.

“Actually, my husband and I decided that I come back to Nigeria to have this baby.

“So, I have to resign from my place of work and it was during the process of my documentation that the issue of Covid-19 started and all airlines were stopped from an operation. Immediately I saw the advert that Nigeria embassy will repatriate on Facebook, I quickly filled the form and I was listed among those that will be repatriated.

“We were initially scheduled to leave Dubai on April 26, but unfortunately the flight was cancelled until another opportunity came on Wednesday and I prayed and wished that I get to Lagos before the delivery.

“But when the mild pain started, I thought it was just stomach pain. Honestly, I prayed silently for God to let get to Lagos since the journey was just seven hours,” Kafayat continued.

Asked how she feels that she’s back to Dubai, the mother of three said: “To be sincere I am not happy. I resigned two months ago and started the process of coming back to Nigeria and the Covid-19 issue started, and again I am back in Dubai instead of being in Nigeria with my children.”

When asked about the new baby, she said they are both in excellent condition. “We are pretty fine to the glory of Almighty God. No complication, though we are still in the hospital with the baby still in the nursery section.

“I am so grateful to God and all Nigeria government representatives here in Dubai, especially Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa who called to congratulate me early this morning (Thursday)”

Kafayat has been in UAE for seven years where she has worked in the Alshaya Company as an administrator.

President Trump's Staff Tests Positive For Coronavirus

A member of the US Navy who serves as one of President Donald Trump's personal valets has tested positive for coronavirus, CNN learned Thursday, raising concerns about the President's possible exposure to the virus.

The valets are members of an elite military unit dedicated to the White House and often work very close to the President and first family. Trump was upset when he was informed Wednesday that the valet had tested positive, a source told CNN, and the President was subsequently tested again by the White House physician.

In a statement, the White House confirmed CNN's reporting that one of the President's staffers had tested positive.

"We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus," deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement. "The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health."

Valets assist the President and first family with a variety of personal tasks. They are responsible for the President's food and beverage not only in the West Wing but also travel with him when he's on the road or out of the country. Past presidents have relied on them not only for these matters, but also as confidants. The valets have an inside view to a president's personal life like few others.

A White House source said the valet, a man who has not been identified, exhibited "symptoms" Wednesday morning, and said the news that someone close to Trump had tested positive for coronavirus was "hitting the fan" in the West Wing.

Trump, who is a self-described germophobe, has chastised aides before who coughed or sneezed in his presence. He has claimed to rarely get sick himself.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint welcomes first child with girlfriend Georgia Groome

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has welcomed his first child with girlfriend Georgia Groome, it has been confirmed.

It first emerged that Georgia, 28, was pregnant in April when she was spotted out with the 31-year-old actor, who played Ron Weasley, with her baby bump on show in north London.

Reps announced on Thursday (6 May) that Rupert and Georgia are now proud parents of a baby girl.

‘Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are delighted to confirm the birth of their baby girl,’ they said in a statement.

‘We would please ask that you respect their privacy at this very special time.’

It makes Rupert the first Harry Potter star out of his main co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to become a parent.

The joyful news emerged just hours after Daniel, who played boy wizard Harry, revealed he had congratulated the couple on their impending arrival.

‘As soon as I found out, I texted him,’ Daniel told Inquirer.

‘I’m incredibly happy for him. He and Georgia have been together for a while. It’s really exciting. It is crazy to think because it’s in my head. It still feels like we’ve basically just met and we are about 16 years old.’

Rupert and Georgia have made sure to keep their relationship as private as possible ever since they were first linked, nine years ago. So much so that loyal fans were shocked to see pictures of the lovebirds together back in 2018.

However, Rupert turned this all around in a very candid interview shortly after turning 30, where he opened up about taking the next step in life.

Chatting to the Guardian, he said: ‘Turning 30 felt strange. It just doesn’t feel like I’m there yet and I don’t know what the future holds.

‘I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters and see what happens.

‘I’d like to settle down and have kids soon.’

But Harry Potter fans were a little heartbroken to find out that Ron was absolutely not at the top of any baby name list if he had a boy.

‘If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It’s quite a good name, but probably not,’ Rupert added.

‘And Grint’s a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with.’

Rupert shot to fame starring as Harry’s sidekick Ron starring in all eight movies.

He’s since gone on to star in Sky One comedy Sick Note, crime drama Snatch and Agatha Christie adaption The ABC Murders.

Georgia is also known in her own right, appearing in 2008’s Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, as well as 2006’s crime drama London To Brighton.

79-year-old disabled woman rescued alive 3 days after son buried her

Police in north-western China’s Shaanxi province has arrested a 58-year-old man identified by his surname Ma for allegedly burying his 79-year-old disabled mother alive.

It is gathered that the woman was rescued from a deserted tomb where her son allegedly by her son buried her alive. She was trapped in the pit for nearly three days, authorities have said.

An investigation into the incident is underway and her son Ma is facing an attempted murder charge.

The woman’s son has been arrested for attempted murder after his mother who he buried was rescued alive.

Disturbing footage shows Ms Wang covered in mud while being pulled out from the burial pit by two police officers.

The police is said to have been alerted by Ms Wang’s concerned daughter-in-law, known by her surname Zhang, according to an official statement.

According to Ms Zhang, her husband pushed his mother out of their family home around 8pm on May 2 but returned home without her.

She said he had told the family he had sent the pensioner, who cannot walk by herself, to visit relatives; but his wife became suspicious.

The police immediately summoned Mr Ma for interrogation during which the son confessed that he attempted to bury his mother alive in an abandoned tomb.

Officials soon located the burial pit and started digging the tomb after hearing someone screaming for help.

They surprisingly found the paralysed mother still alive after nearly three days without food or water.

She was rushed to a hospital, and is currently in a stable condition.
Ma remains in custody.

COVID-19 Lockdown: Wike orders auctioning of seized vehicles

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says vehicles that were impounded in the state after their owners were caught driving them in violation of the lockdown order will be auctioned.

The Governor said this on Thursday in an interview after he went round to monitor the level of compliance with the lockdown.

“The defaulters will be tried by the Mobile Courts and I have told the Attorney General, all the impounded vehicles must be auctioned. By tomorrow, the Honourable Attorney General would have advertised those vehicles and we will auction them,” he said.

“Some people don’t believe that Coronavirus is in existence. Until you make them understand that we are serious, they will not believe it. We will auction the impounded vehicles.

“Those arrested will face the wrath of the law. Nobody is above the law. We will not allow anyone to sabotage our efforts to protect our people.”

While monitoring the level of compliance, Governor Wike oversaw the arrest of several violators and the impounding of cars.

Some of those arrested were very important persons (VIPS), who were adjudged not to be on essential duties, but were moving around with their police escorts.

The governor, however, allowed a pregnant woman who violated the lockdown order, to go on compassionate grounds.

At the Elekahia Isolation Centre, over 200 persons were arrested and over 20 vehicles impounded by different teams enforcing the lockdown.
