Three-day-old baby dies after mum tests positive for coronavirus

A three-day-old baby has died after his mother tested positive for coronavirus.

Coolio Carl Justin John Morgan was born at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend on Saturday, May 2.

An inquest heard the baby was diagnosed with fetal bradycardia – a low heart rate – and was transferred to Singleton Hospital in Swansea when his condition deteriorated.

Senior coroner’s officer Lauren Howitt told the brief hearing at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Wednesday that his mother, from Maesteg, was found to be Covid-19 positive soon after delivery.

No post-mortem examination has been carried out and the preliminary cause of death was given as "1a. Severe hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy" (a lack of oxygen and blood to the brain) and "2. Maternal Covid-19".

Coroner Graeme Hughes asked his officers to investigate the circumstances of the death ahead of a final hearing listed for April 28, 2021.

5-year-old shoots brother to death with gun he mistook for a toy gun

A 5-year-old boy  on Saturday evening shot his 12-year-old brother to death with a loaded gun he mistook for a toy gun.

The loaded gun was found in the woods and the boy fired a single shot to his brother’s chest at around 7.40pm in the 600 block of Hammock Street.

First responders performed CPR and the boy was taken to Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital where he later died.

The dead boy and his siblings, ages five and seven, were in the woods in Atlanta, Georgia, when the youngest of the three found the gun, according to a police statement.

Special investigators spoke to the five-year-old and determined he thought it was a toy when he fired it, striking his brother.

In their statement on Sunday, Griffin police said the shooting was likely a ‘tragic accident’ and officers would now investigate who dumped the loaded weapon in the woods.

The police also said that officers had searched an area near where the gun was found two hours earlier on Saturday after a group of suspects fled a traffic stop nearby

The suspects fled on foot behind some houses and police lost track of them.

A bag of suspected MDMA drugs, commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly, was discovered, but no gun was found at the time.

‘We will diligently pursue and charge any other parties responsible for the actions leading up to the apparent abandonment of this weapon allowing for access by these innocent children,’ officials said.

The gun was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for touch DNA analysis, authorities added.

‘We will leave no stone unturned as we search for the individuals responsible for the abandonment of this weapon,’ Griffin Police Chief Mike Yates stated.

A neighbor Tom Whitehead who owns an auto body shop in front of the family’s home, told CNN affiliate WGCL.

“The children were out here peacefully playing in the backyard on the trampoline,”

“The little one found a gun. … Turns around, thinks he’s playing, says ‘bang bang.’ It was loaded and killed him. Think about that mother. The next day, Mother’s Day, and one boy is dead by the hand of his younger brother.”

A report has it that the victim was visiting with relatives from Sharpsburg when the incident occurred as the children were playing on a trampoline.

Police in Akwa Ibom arrest medical doctor, 6 others over alleged sale of 5-month-old baby

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has arrested a medical doctor and six others over alleged sale of a five-month-old baby.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Fredrick Nnudam, made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Uyo,

Unudam said that the doctor was an employee of one of the teaching hospitals in Calabar.

According to him, the arrest of the medical doctor and his alleged accomplices on May 8 followed a tip off.

He explained that one Grace Davies conspired with her sister, Abigail Davies, to sell a five-month-old baby to the doctor for N250, 000.

The spokesman for the command said that when the doctor was arrested and interrogated, he confessed to committing the crime and cooperated with the police in its investigation.

“The Anti-Child Theft Unit of the State Police Command on May 8, 2020, acted on credible information in a case of child trafficking and arrested seven suspects.

“The suspects were arrested in Itu, Akwa Ibom State and Calabar, Cross River State, following a tip-off.

“One Grace Asuquo Davis ‘f’, the mother of a five-month-old baby conspired with her sister, one Abigail Asuquo Davis and sold the said child at the cost of N250, 000 to one Dr Victor Onongha.

“The transaction was perfected through two human trafficking agents, one Clement Edem ‘m’ and Ekaette Okon Akpan ‘f’.

“The said doctor was arrested and he confessed to the offence, and led the police to arrest one Hope Jonah ‘f’, a laboratory scientist working at General Hospital, Calabar, who bought the child from him.

“On further interrogation, Hope Jonah ‘f’ confessed to the offence and also led the police to the Nigerian Army Barracks, Ebrutu, Calabar, where one Mrs Patience Livingstone was arrested and the baby was recovered.

“Patience Livingstone on her part admitted that her husband Livingstone Orji bought the child at the cost of N660, 000 from the laboratory scientist,” he said.

The police spokesman said that investigation was ongoing and the suspects would soon be arraigned in court.

Nnudam appealed to residents of state not to relent in giving useful information to the police through the dedicated hotlines, stressing that the command was determined to serve the people better.

“The children were out here peacefully playing in the backyard on the trampoline,” neighbor Tom Whitehead, who owns an auto body shop in front of the family’s home, told CNN affiliate WGCL.

19 dead and 15 injured after Iranian navy accidentally sank one of its own warship

An Iranian warship has accidentally opened fire on one of its own support vessels during a training exercise in the Gulf of Oman, killing 19 and leaving 15 injured.

The Jamaran, a frigate, had been attempting to hit a target with one of its Noor cruise missiles when it accidentally struck a support ship named Konarak instead.

The Konarak had been placing targets for the Janaran to hit but remained too close to one of them causing the missile to lock on to it by mistake, state-run media said.

Nineteen people were 'martyred' in the friendly-fire incident, the ISNA news agency said, while another 15 were admitted to hospital in a 'good condition'.

Iranian media denied earlier reports that the Konarak had sunk, saying the vessel was towed away for inspection afterwards.

The Konarak had been overhauled in 2018 and was able to launch sea and anti-ship missiles but was not actively participating in the drill, state outlets said.

The Dutch-made, 155ft vessel was in service since 1988 and had capacity of 40 tons.

The friendly fire incident happened on Sunday near the port of Jask, some 790 miles southeast of Tehran, in the Gulf of Oman, state TV said.

It comes after Iran accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane as it was taking off from Tehran airport earlier this year, killing all 176 on board.

Outrage as woman announces upcoming marriage to Stepson she helped raise

Controversy is currently trailing a Russian influencer Marina Balmasheva after she announced her upcoming marriage to a stepson she helped raise for 10 years.

The 35-year-old identified is famous in Russia for documenting her weight-loss online and she now faces criticism for her relationship with her 20-year-old stepson Vladimir.

Ananova News reports that Marina’s relationship with Vladimir developed as she struggled with her weight, dropping 58 kilograms from the 132 kilograms she weighed initially. When they both realized that they shared a mutual attraction, they went public.

Marina was married to Vladimir’s 45-year-old father Alesky for 10 years but she has now announced that she is romantically involved with Vladimir. Not only that, but they are also planning to wed in the nearest future and have children of their own.

Sparking further controversy is when she posted side by side photos of her and Vladimir when she was 22 and he was 7-years-old, and now, as a couple.

Many have slammed her behaviour as immoral.

“You never know how life will turn out and when you will meet a person who makes you smile,” Marina Balmasheva wrote on Instagram. “I know that some will judge us, others will support us, but we are happy and wish you to be as well.”

Marina and her former husband Aleksy had adopted five children together, plus the two boys he had from a previous marriage. Apparently she had also wanted to have children of her own, and Russian media had speculated that one of the causes for their breakup was the inability to conceive.

Marina’s fans are not the only ones to have a negative reaction to the news as child services have now taken away five of her adoptive children and placed them with her ex-husband.

She is still allowed to see the children but not allowed to take them away for days at a time, or post photos and videos of them online.

“We had some sort of agreement with the child services. I was supposed to have a deal with them and they would not make trouble for me or Aleksey (her ex-husband). They would not oppose us seeing each other, would not prohibit me taking the children. But I got played,” Marina told Russian reporters.

The new controversial couple appears undeterred by the criticism and are moving forward with their plans to get married.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says employees can work from home

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has announced that his employees can work from home for as long as they want, even after the coronavirus pandemic.

Dorsey, on Tuesday, told his employees that many of them will be allowed to work from home in perpetuity, even after the coronavirus pandemic ends, according to a company spokesperson.

“Opening offices will be our decision,” the spokesperson said. “When and if our employees come back, will be theirs.”

According to an email obtained by BuzzFeed News, Dorsey said it was unlikely that Twitter would open its offices before September and that all in-person events would be cancelled for the remainder of the year.

The company will assess its plans for 2021 events later this year.

“We were uniquely positioned to respond quickly and allow folks to work from home given our emphasis on decentralization and supporting a distributed workforce capable of working from anywhere,” the spokesperson said.

“The past few months have proven we can make that work,” she said. “So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return.”

In the same vein, many companies have embarked on a work-from-home model in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Google has told employees that the vast majority of them will work from home until 2021, though some will return in the early summer. Facebook will similarly start to reopen offices after the July 4 weekend but will let employees who are able to work from home do so until next year.

Rapper 6ix9ine has $200k charity donation rejected

Rapper 6ix9ine has had a $200,000 (£163,000) donation to a children's charity rejected.

The No Kid Hungry campaign said it has a policy of rejecting funding from donors who do not fit with its values.

The rapper, who was recently in prison for crimes he carried out as part of a violent gang before making a successful comeback, called the decision "cruel".

The Brooklyn rapper had evaded jail time on previous charges, including child sex offences in 2015.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, announced he was donating $200,000 to the campaign, which seeks to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the US.

But Share Our Strength, the non-profit organisation that runs the campaign, told the BBC it had declined the controversial rapper's offer.

"We are grateful for Mr Hernandez's generous offer to donate to No Kid Hungry but we have informed his representatives that we have declined this donation," it said.

"As a child-focused campaign, it is our policy to decline funding from donors whose activities do not align with our mission and values."

The rapper responded on Instagram that he had "never seen something so cruel". He has since deleted the post.

6ix9ine has been making headlines in the last week for an explosive return to the spotlight after being released from prison early as part of a nationwide effort to stem the coronavirus outbreak in US jails.

He broke the all-time record for an Instagram live stream, with more than two million people tuning in at one point. His new track Gooba has racked up 120 million views on YouTube in just four days.

Last year, the 24-year-old pleaded guilty to a series of gang robberies and shootings.

Meet 51-year-old dubbed “goddess of eternal youth” because she looks half her age [photos]

Dubbed “goddess of eternal youth” because of her youthful appearance, 51-year-old dentist Lee Su Jin can easily pass for a woman half her age.

Lee Su Jin who is from South Korea has amassed quite an impressive online following thanks to her incredibly youthful looks.

Her photos went viral on Asian social media in 2016 when she was 48-years-old and she has since become a sensation and even appeared on several television shows.

Four years should have added a few wrinkles here and there but Lee Su Jin is still very much the same as she was then as she is now. She has even been compared to a vampire and it is easy to mistake her for her daughter’s sister just by looking at their photos.

When she appeared Korean TV show ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams’ several years ago, Lee Su Jin revealed that she had turned to social media in her need for social interaction, because her daughter had stopped talking to her after starting middle school. She simply enjoyed all the attention she got from everyone thanks to her youthful appearance and continued posting more and more.

Her daughter has even accused her of being addicted to taking selfies and posting on social media that led to her being featured on the Same Bed, Different Dreams reality show. The mother-daughter relationship has since improved as the dentist’s daughter now makes frequent appearances on her Instagram feed.

Accused of going under the knife to enhance her looks, Lee Su Jin has denied the claims. According to Vietnamese website Zing News, which recently published a piece on Lee Su Jin, she has since confirmed that she had had no plastic surgery done.

Apparently, the key to the 51-year-old dentist’s youth is a balanced lifestyle, an incurable optimist, and skincare. She also makes sure to keep in great physical shape, visiting the gym a few times a week, eats light, probably sleeps at least 8 hours a night.

Edward Nino Hernandez is SHORTEST living man on Earth

Edward Nino Hernandez, of Colombia, is the world's shortest man living, Guinness World Records said Tuesday.

The world record title was awarded amid his birthday celebration as he turned 34 on Monday, Guinness World Records said in a statement.

Hernandez has achieved the title at 2 feet, 4.39 inches tall.

Guinness World Records Latin America adjudicator Natalia Ramirez presented him an official certificate in a ceremony at a medical clinic in his hometown of Bogota, Colombia, with his family doctor by his side.

Hernandez grew up reaching the regular milestones, but realized at age 4, his friends were growing taller than him. His parents sought medical advice at the time, but the reason his growth was stunted wasn't discovered until about 20 years later when he was diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism.

The diagnosis hasn't stopped Hernandez from having a positive attitude and enjoying life.

He can sometimes be seen dancing in the streets to Reggaeton, Merengue and Vallenato music.

"I use my smile to conquer the world! I always share my big smile with everyone; that's my charm,"

Hernandez said. "I can achieve everything I set my mind to. Everything is possible . . . Size and height don't matter! I want people to meet who I truly am: small in size, big in heart!"

This isn't the first time that Hernandez has earned the record title.

At age 24, he also held the same title on April 13, 2010, at 2 feet, 3.64 inches tall. Khagendra Thapa Magar broke the record on October 14, 2010 at 2 feet, 2.41 inches tall. Magar died on January 17.

Now, Hernandez has regained the title.

''Disgusting'' reasons woman can't wear shoes [photos]

Arinda Storm Weaver very rarely cuts her toenails and as a result they're incredibly long.

So long, that she can't wear closed-toe shoes or go for a run.

And while the length shocks some people, there are many who really enjoy them and a number will even pay her for videos of her feet.

The 58-year-old who lives in Columbus, Ohio, charges £11.50 for a 10-minute clip of her toenails and makes so much money from these videos that she was able to quit her career as an account specialist.

She also shares photos of her hands and feet on social media - which is where she first discovered nail fetishes were a thing.

Back in 2006, while recovering from a double mastectomy, Arinda uploaded a few photos of her long finger nails to MySpace, just to show them off.

They soon began garnering a lot of attention and she realised there was also serious money to be made, especially from toes.

Speaking to Metro, she said: "I opted to start growing them for the toenail guys.

"I discovered I could make money from having long toenails. So, I just let them grow."

Arinda now identifies as a LNB, a Long Nail Beauty.

And while she does make a lot of money from her nails, there are a few downsides.

She explained: "Wearing closed-toed shoes is not possible with my toenails.

"I also cannot wear heels any longer. They tend to make me walk slower and I also cannot run with them."

Watch terrifying moment fun seekers run for their lives after gunman opens fire at Texas party

This is the terrifying moment revelers ran for their lives after a gunman opened fire shooting five during a 600-strong party in a Texas park.

Two people were critically wounded and three injured in the shooting at Village Creek Park in Fort Worth over the weekend.

Officer Buddy Calzada revealed around 600 people had gathered to set off fireworks when around 30 gunshots were heard.

Adrian Gallardo, who lived across the street, told the Star-Telegram he had heard shots and saw 'people running everywhere'.

Video footage posted to Twitter showed youngsters running across a road away from the park.

Others hid behind cars as gunshots mixed with screams pierced the air.

At the Fort Worth Police Department the gang unit is taking the lead on the investigation.

One man who has lived on Edgewood near the park for 24 years, Raymond Brown, said the people at the party looked between 18 and 20 years old.

'This is one of the few parks in Fort Worth where African-Americans feel they can go and enjoy themselves,' Brown said.

Police were called to the scene at 6.59pm but there have so far been no arrests.

Calzada said: 'Our job as the police is to investigate exactly what all took place here from beginning to end.'

A second shooting was reported at a convenience store less than a mile away from the park at 7pm.

An employee at the store was shot in the hand, according to a police incident report, and officers are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.

On March 19, state Governor Greg Abbott ordered people not to participate in social gatherings of more than ten people.

State parks reopened on April 20 but people have been told to wear face coverings and masks and adhere to social distancing. People are also not allowed to visit in groups of five or more.

There have been 35,390 confirmed coronavirus cases and 973 deaths in Texas.

Covid-19: Benue index case, Susan Idoko-Okpe, gives new conditions for test

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, on Tuesday disclosed that Susan Idoko-Okpe, alleged to be Benue State’s Covid-19 index case, has refused officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) permission to collect her sample for COVID-19 test, and gives new conditions.

Susan, who is currently at the National Hospital, Abuja, said that before her samples can be taken, it must be carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) and sent to the United Kingdom for testing. She has been in quarantine since March 24, 2020 – 50 days now.

Speaking during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, Ehanire said: “She came in from the United Kingdom.  She’s due for another test which she has refused to take and we strongly believe that by now she may be negative but we need to document it because we also work with the guidelines by the WHO.

“In order to document it I called her on phone and persuaded her to just let them take the test and she gave me the condition that first they must give her all her results from the past before she will agree for just her specimen to be taken.

“I gave instructions and they took all the photocopies of her results and gave it to her. But on the day of the test when the NCDC got there, she told them that she wanted the test to be taken by the World Health Organization and that the test should not be done in Nigeria but that it should be sent to the United Kingdom. That seem to be a very difficult order. It is becoming a very odd drama.”

He added: “It was reported to me, so I called her again and asked her why she changed the condition. She wrote a text to me saying I should consult her lawyer.

“This was just yesterday, so we will continue with the lawyer business. However, she is quite well and in good health and the hospital authorities have also done their very best.”

Ignore WHO and find cure for Covid-19 using alternative remedies, Reps tell FG

The House of Representatives yesterday called on the Federal Government to ignore the World Health Organization, WHO, in efforts to find cure for COVID-19 and approve use of alternative remedies to cure the disease.

It also called on governors of the 19 states of the North to reverse the ban on the Almajiri System until millions of Islamic school children loitering the streets of the region without care are provided for by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC.

The Green Chamber also urged the Federal Government to intervene and immediately halt repatriation of Almajirai children to their states of origin.

The House, in a motion by Ossy Prestige (PDP, Abia), rejected warnings by the World Health Organization on the use of local cures for the disease.

Sponsor of the motion noted that since the outbreak of Coronavirus disease, otherwise known as COVID-19, it has infected more than four million people around the world, with a global death toll of about 300,000, adding that Nigeria has over 4,641 confirmed cases and over 150 deaths, with the virus spreading to virtually all states of federation at an alarming rate.

The House plenary, preside over by the speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, immediately adopted the motion, urging government to support and encourage the use of locally developed remedies for the management and treatment of COVID-19 ailments in Nigeria in order to ascertain their efficacy.

It also mandated the Committee on Health “to interface with the relevant government agencies to ensure that our locally-deveIoped remedies for the treatment of COVID-19 are included in the clinical trials by the WHO under its “Solidarity initiative.”

Actor Jamie Dornan looks unrecognisable in female outfit after playing dress up with his daughters

He returned to Instagram last month after a four-year absence.

And Jamie Dornan has continued to delight fans with a light-hearted snapshot uploaded to social media.

The actor, 38, squeezed into a red patterned midi dress, which he wore over the top of his jeans and coupled with glitzy platform heels.

The Fifty Shades star finished the outfit with a unkempt black wig styled into two low ponytails.

Jamie looked bemused as he posed in his daughters' playroom and gazed toward the camera.

The father-of-two uploaded that photo alongside a caption that read: Dressing up with my daughters took a turn. Meet Jenny (with the blue hair). She's sweet.'

It comes after the Northern Irish actor was forced to defend Gal Gadot's 'cringeworthy' Imagine video that featured several celebrities singing the John Lennon hit.

The Wonder Woman actress, 34, recruited A-list stars including Jamie, Will Ferrell, Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig and Amy Adams to take part in the video which was deemed out of touch by social media users.

Speaking on the Tea With Me podcast, Jamie admitted he was roped into the video by his friend and Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar co-star Kristen Wiig but insisted Gal was 'trying to do a good thing'.

He said: 'Kristen and I did a movie together last summer that's meant to be coming out on July 31 but who knows what will happen.

'We got on brilliantly. I would do anything for her - that's how highly I think of her. I was the biggest fan of her before anyway.

'Not being on social media, I wasn't aware of the reaction – but was made aware by mates,' he added.

'Kristen texted, 'Gal and I are trying to organise this thing to lift spirits.'

Jamie agreed to do the video and admitted he received a text message from Kristen several days after its release apologising for getting him involved.

He said: 'So I was like: 'Of course I'll do it'. Then she texted days later saying, 'Sorry'.'

Jamie filmed his segment from his toilet 'to make it normal' and insisted Gal was 'trying to do a good thing', adding: 'I just got dragged along with it'.

The video was an attempt to lift people's spirits during the coronavirus lockdowns taking place in several countries around the world.

Nigeria To Review Lockdown Relaxation This Week

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that the relaxation of the lockdown will be reviewed this week.

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, disclosed it during the daily briefing on Tuesday.

Aliyu said the task force would not hesitate to change strategy if the current directive is not working.

“You are probably aware that by the end of this week, we will be coming to the end of the second week of easing the lockdown and we will be taking further decisions based on the review of the performance of the restrictions that we have in place.

“And we will not hesitate to change our strategy if it looks like it is not working.”

Nigeria currently has 4,641 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
