Video: Ghanaian police shoot Nigerian dead while partying

A Nigerian has been shot dead by a police officer in Ghana while reportedly partying at a hotel.

The unidentified man was allegedly gunned down while the police were trying to disperse attendees at the party.

A video posted on YouTube by the deceased’s friends indicate that another unnamed man was also killed during the incident.

A corpse was seen in the video being taken to the hospital by some people.

In the footage, a lady was lamenting the killing, saying Ghanaian police were always attacking Nigerians.

Speaking in pidgin English, she said, “What happened this night was tragic. The police have just killed a Nigerian man. He simply came to pick his girlfriend and they shot him. But he was foolish, he shouldn’t  have engaged the policemen in an argument; they simply wasted him.”

The police were seen taking away the fun-seekers ostensibly for violating social distancing protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Ghana currently has 5,735 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 29 deaths while 1,754 persons have recovered.

Trump threatens permanent freeze on WHO funding in 30 days

President Donald Trump threatened Monday to permanently freeze US funding to the World Health Organization unless "substantive improvements" were made within the next 30 days.

Washington suspended funding to the WHO in mid-April, accusing it of being too close to Beijing and covering up and mismanaging the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, Trump tweeted images of a letter he sent to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, informing the director-general that "if the World Health Organization does not commit to major substantive improvements within the next 30 days, I will make my temporary freeze of United States funding to the World Health Organization permanent and reconsider our membership in the organization."

Soldiers pose n.a.k.e.d on Red Arrows jet 'after drunken party while they were on coronavirus testing duty'

Three soldiers who posed n.a.k.e.d next to a memorial to two dead airmen had been at a boozy party after ten days of coronavirus testing duty, reports claim.

Colour Sergeant 'Tats' Taylor, shared pictures on Facebook posing next to a Red Arrows jet with Corporal Shane Woods and Private Anthony Panton.

The 49-year-old posted the images with the caption 'Think we took over RAF Scampton' and a laughing emoji.

Senior figures are said to be furious with the pictures which were taken on Friday, at the historic home of The Dambusters after a boozy party, The Sun reports.

The aerial display plane is parked next a plaque marking the deaths of Flight Lieutenants Jon Egging and Sean Cunningham, who died in separate accidents in 2011.

Sgt Taylor's pictures showed all three men, all of 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, n.a.k.e.d. except for regimental headdress.

A source told The Sun: 'Tats put the pictures up on Facebook but took them down after, but it was too late, everyone had seen them. They know they’re in the s***.'

It is claimed the three soldiers had been given alcohol as a token of appreciation by the local council after spending 10 days at the mobile Covid-19 testing site at the Lincolnshire base.

Friends of Sgt Taylor told The Sun he did not realise the significance of the plane.

An Army spokesman said: 'This behaviour clearly contradicts the discipline we ask our personnel to display and it undermines the support we provide to health authorities with mobile testing and other tasks across the UK.

'We are looking into this incident and will deal with the matter accordingly.'

Hospitals in Brazil’s largest city ‘near collapse’ as Covid-19 cases soar

The mayor of Brazil’s largest city, São Paulo, has said its health system could collapse as demand grows for emergency beds to deal with coronavirus cases.

Bruno Covas said the city’s public hospitals had reached 90% capacity and could run out of space in two weeks.

He accused those who flouted lockdown rules of playing “Russian roulette” with people’s lives.

São Paulo is one of the country’s worst-hit regions, with almost 3,000 deaths so far.

On Saturday, Brazil overtook Spain and Italy to become the nation with the fourth largest number of infections.

The health ministry reported 7,938 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total above 241,000. Only the US, Russia and the UK have higher numbers.

The death toll in the Latin American nation over 24 hours was 485, meaning that the total number of deaths is 16,118 – the world’s fifth-highest figure.

Health experts in Brazil have warned that the real number of confirmed infections in the country may be far higher than the official records, due to a lack of testing.

Brazil’s far-right president Jair Bolsonaro has been strongly criticised both at home and abroad for his handling of the country’s escalating coronavirus crisis.

He defied global health advice on social distancing on Sunday when he posed for photographs with supporters and children in the capital, Brasília.

Army General Arrested For Flouting Kaduna Lockdown Order

An army general has been arrested in Kaduna for flouting the lockdown order.

In a statement on Monday, Aisha Dikko, commissioner of justice, said the army general, who was in full uniform, was arrested while driving in from Abuja with three other passengers who had no face masks.

“The general identified himself and said he was coming from Abuja and on a official duty,” the commissioner said.

“However, the court tried and convicted the other three passengers, for not complying with the stay at home order and wearing face masks.”

She added that Yusuf Rigachukun, an Islamic cleric, and his son, were also arrested for flouting the state COVID-19 lockdown order.

She said the duo were arrested at the Kaduna State University (KASU) junction on Tuesday without face masks.

The commissioner said the cleric told the court that he left his home because he was invited by the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) for a radio programme.

“Rigachukun and his son were however both charged for not wearing facemasks and were fined N5000 each,” she said.

In addition, the court asked the cleric to perform community service, by informing the public on how to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The commissioner added that 75 culprits have been convicted out of the 105 people who violated the ban on inter-state travel.

Dikko warned residents against violating the COVID-19 lockdown order, saying offenders will be fined and undergo community service for seven days.

President Trump Reveals Drug He Takes To Prevent Coronavirus

US President Donald Trump has said he is taking hydroxychloroquine to ward off coronavirus, even though health officials have warned it may be unsafe.

Speaking at the White House, he told reporters he started taking the malaria and lupus medication recently.

"I'm taking it for about a week and a half now and I'm still here, I'm still here," was his surprise announcement.

There is no evidence hydroxychloroquine can fight off coronavirus, though clinical trials are under way.

What did Trump say?
According BBC, the 73-year-old president was hosting a meeting devoted to the struggling restaurant industry on Monday, when he caught reporters unawares by revealing he was taking the drug.

"You'd be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the frontline workers before you catch it, the frontline workers, many, many are taking it," he told reporters. "I happen to be taking it."

Asked what was his evidence of hydroxychloroquine's positive benefits, Mr Trump said: "Here's my evidence: I get a lot of positive calls about it."

He added: "I've heard a lot of good stories [about hydroxychloroquine] and if it's not good, I'll tell you right I'm not going to get hurt by it."

Though some people in the White House have tested positive for coronavirus, the president said again on Monday he had "zero symptoms" and was being tested frequently.

He added that he has been taking a daily zinc supplement and received a single dose of azithromycin, an antibiotic meant to prevent infection.

When asked whether the White House physician had recommended he start taking the disputed remedy, Mr Trump said he himself had requested it.

Dr Sean Conley, physician to the president, said in a statement issued through the White House later on Monday that Mr Trump was in "very good health" and "symptom-free".

The US Navy officer added: "After numerous discussions he and I had regarding the evidence for and against the use of hydroxychloroquine, we concluded the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks."

Buhari Meets TY Danjuma Behind Closed Doors

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja met with the former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen Theophilus Danjuma rtd, behind closed doors in the State House.

Although the agenda of meeting was unknown, but it generated interest because both men were believed not to be best of friends in recent times.

Danjuma has been very critical of the government of Buhari following rampaging killings of suspected Fulani herdsmen in Taraba and some other states.

In March 2018, for instance, Danjuma asked Nigerians to defend themselves against what he described as ethnic cleansing by the herdsmen.
He had made the call while speaking at the maiden convocation of Taraba State University, Jalingo, as well as the 10th anniversary of the institution.
He had said: “There is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in the state and of course, some rural states in Nigeria. We must resist it. We must stop it. Every one of us must rise up.

“Our Armed Forces are not neutral. They collude with the bandits to kill people, kill Nigerians. The Armed Forces guide their movements; they cover them. If you are depending on the Armed Forces to stop the killings, you will all die one by one.

“This ethnic cleansing must stop in Taraba State and other rural states of Nigeria otherwise Somalia will be a child’s play.

“I ask every one of you to be alert and defend your country, defend your territory and defend your state. Defend yourselves because you have no other place to go. God bless our country.”

Danjuma who was obviously bitter had made the call two days after residents of the Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State accused the Army Operation Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) of protecting suspected killer herdsmen who allegedly attacked and killed villagers.

Bars, salons reopen in Italy after Covid-19 nightmare

Italy and Spain are among a number of European countries further easing their coronavirus lockdown restrictions on Monday.

Most businesses in Italy, including bars and hairdressers, are reopening after more than two months of nationwide lockdown measures.

Spain meanwhile has slightly eased restrictions on some of its least affected islands.

The measures follow consistent drops in the number of daily recorded deaths.

On Sunday, Italy recorded the fewest daily deaths since it entered lockdown in March.

It said 145 people had died with the virus in the previous 24 hours. This marked a significant drop from its highest daily death toll, which was more than 900 on 27 March.

In Spain, the daily death toll fell below 100 for the first time since it imposed its lockdown restrictions.

But officials are warning that complacency over the virus could lead to a second wave of infections.

62 year old woman dies while struggling for COVID-19 palliative in Rivers

A woman identified as Mrs. Florence Onuobodo, has lost her life in Elele Kingdom, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State in a stamped that occurred during the sharing of state government’s Covid-19 palliative in the area.

The Rivers State Government had delivered food palliatives to Elele Kingdom in the ongoing distribution of Covid-19 palliatives by the government.

During the sharing process stamped occurred claiming the life of the 62-year-old Florence and living about four other women with various degrees of injuries.

Speaking on the development, Eze Okechukwu Okah, blamed the development on the committee in the community and one Chief Mike Elechi, stating that the stamped would have been avoided if both had managed the process properly.

Okah alleged that the committee had locked out all the beneficiaries of the palliative, adding that the struggle for the residents to gain access into the compound led to the stamped.

He said: “My palliative came before the state government’s own many benefitted and nobody died. This stamped happened because one man asked the committee to move the whole item to his compound.

“We know our people are hungry, but the right thing needs to be done. They selected their loyalists to come and get the items, but other people who knew their plans got there as early as 5:00am. “When they started their selection others started to struggle to enter the compound, their boys started flogging and pushing them backwards, in that process the stamped happened.”

But, the counsellor representing Elele, ward 4, at Ikwerre LGA Legislative Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Amadi, denied the allegation that the process was poorly managed, adding that the stamped happened as a result of quarrel that ensued between women outside the gate.

Ooni of Ife's wife, Olori Naomi reacts to rumors that their marriage has crashed

Ooni of Ife's wife, Olori Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi has debunked the rumors that  her marriage to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has packed up.

Taking to her instagram page to address the rumors, she wrote;

''There have been strange rumours and unfounded news making rounds on social media in recent times.I want all believers of good news to know that, it is all lies and a picture of how the peddlers of the evil news would have loved our love story to turn out.

I would have loved to maintain silence, however, due to concerns being expressed by well meaning people something has to be said.

Now, the gospel truth is that I have been busy with ministry off the social media space and you'd all agree with me that with the ongoing pandemic which suddenly sprung up on all of us, only means more work needs to be done.

I can't sit still (as nobody privileged enough should) and this isn't a time for social media presence but a time that calls for solemnity. Hence my break from what people now call normal. Finally, as duty will have me do, I have been in and out of the palace doing Gods bidding. With all being said, I am compelled to ask the following questions :
Why can't people verify that which is the truth ?
Why do people believe more in falsehood and negativity?

Well, the bible has something to say about them in Psalm 2:1-12. Now i say to you all, please disregard and jettison every fake and malicious news about me and my husband (Ooni Adeyeye Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi) for ours is a love no earthly force is strong enough to break,we are very fine and healthy

I will leave you with this "please be comforted and know that boredom is a killer and people do unimaginable things when they are" Peace and love always''

Oyakhilome sanctioned in UK over false claims on 5G Network, COVID-19 link

UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom has sanctioned Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s LoveWorld Television Ministry for airing false and “potentially harmful statements” about the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Ofcom said the Christian channel aired a sermon that promoted a baseless conspiracy that the virus is linked to the roll-out of 5G Network.

It also insinuated a “global coverup”.

In addition Loveworld news also claimed that hydroxychloroquine is a cure for COVID-19, without proof.

“Our investigation found that a report on Loveworld News included unsubstantiated claims that 5G was the cause of the pandemic, and that this was the subject of a ‘global cover-up’, Ofcom said.

“Another report during the programme suggested hydroxychloroquine as a ‘cure’ for Covid-19, without acknowledging that its effectiveness and safety as a treatment was clinically unproven, or making clear that it has potentially serious side effects”, it added.

Ofcom said Loveworld breached Rules 2.1 and 5.1 of the Broadcasting Code.

Loveworld’s sanction was non-monetary, for now. Ofcom simply wanted it to broadcast its findings that debunked its fake news and sermon.

But it also warned about a further sanction: “We are considering whether to impose any further sanction,” the statement added.
