Several arrested in connection to kidnapping and murder of millionaire tech tycoon

California authorities have arrested suspects in connection to the murder of a kidnapped millionaire tech tycoon seven months ago.

“Several suspects” were apprehended Tuesday linked to the killing Tushar Atre, 50, who was abducted from his lavish oceanfront home and murdered back on Oct. 1, the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office announced.

Atre, the CEO of Atrenet and a cannabis manufacturer behind Interstitial Systems, was removed from his home and forced into his 2008 BMW SUV. Police found Atre several hours later shot to death.

His body was left in the vehicle in the Santa Cruz mountains, 14 miles from his home.

The sheriff’s office in November released surveillance footage showing three male suspects -- one of whom was carrying a rifle walking near Atre’s home.

The department issued 30 search warrants related to the mysterious killing, while the community together raised funds to offer an anonymous cash reward up to $200,000 for tips leading to an arrest, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported.

“We want to thank our community for their efforts and support during this investigation. We would also like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Atre’s loved ones,” the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on the arrests.

The department believes the murder was motivated by a robbery, according to the Sentinel, and plans to unveil more information on the arrests and the case at a news conference.

Younger girlfriend beats up Ex-Texas Lt. Governor... breaks two of his ribs

Former Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said he’s “not interested” in filing charges against his live-in girlfriend who allegedly broke two of his ribs during an attack at their home in Houston.

Leslie Caron, 40, was arrested on the charge of committing injury to the elderly, a third-degree felony in Texas, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Caron allegedly kicked Dewhurst, 74, in the ribs during an argument over him not calling a business partner on May 13. Dewhust told the police she left their home and came back four days later and the two started to argue again, Carson then apparently hit him with a pot, then scratched and bit him, reported by ABC Houston.

Dewhurst went to the doctor and X-rays confirmed he had two broken ribs.

Caron denied assaulting her boyfriend of one year, and said he was injured after moving things at his warehouse, but she could not say how he fractured his ribs, according to court documents.

She allegedly told an officer that she was assaulted and strangled by Dewhurst, but police could not substantiate those claims, said Dane Schiller, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

She was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and bond was set at $10,000. She was also issued a no-contact order.

Dewhurst served 12 years as the lieutenant governor before losing his bid for a fourth term in 2014.

He also lost to Ted Cruz in the 2012 Republican primary for the US senate.

Dewhurst issued the following statement Wednesday afternoon: “I’m not interested in filing any charges against Leslie. She’s a remarkable woman with many fine attributes. I wish her all the best in life.”

Prosecutors have the final say on whether charges will be filed.

Nigerian paralympic gold medalist, Esther Oyema gets 4-year ban for violating anti-doping rules

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has banned former Paralympic Para powerlifting champion Esther Oyema for four years after she committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The Nigerian, who won gold at London 2012 in the women’s up to 48kg, returned an adverse analytical finding for a prohibited substance in a urine sample provided on 28 January 2019 after competing at the Lagos 2019 International Para Powerlifting Competition in Nigeria.

The substance was 19-norandrosterone. This is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2019 Prohibited List under the class S1.1B Endogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) and their Metabolites and isomers.

As a result of her violation, Oyema will be ineligible for competition for four years from 3 May 2019 to 2 May 2023. She has also been stripped of the gold medal which she won in the women’s up to 55kg competition in Lagos, together with any points and prizes.

Each athlete is strictly liable for the substances found in his or her sample. An ADRV occurs whenever a prohibited substance (or its metabolites or markers) is found in his or her bodily specimen, whether or not the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a prohibited substance or was negligent or otherwise at fault.

As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC), the IPC remains committed to a doping-free sporting environment at all levels. The IPC, together with the International Federations and the National Paralympic Committees, established the IPC Anti-Doping Code (the Code) to prevent doping in sport for Paralympic athletes, in the spirit of fair play. The Code is in conformity with the general principles of the WADC.

Actor stabs neighbour to death over electricity bill

A 30-year-old Nollywood actor, Temitayo Ogunbusola, has allegedly stabbed his neighbour, Oladotun Osho, to death following a disagreement over the payment of electricity bill.

The incident happened on Sunday at No. 4 Sebil Kazeem Street in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

Temitayo was said to have been beaten to a pulp by a mob before the intervention of policemen from the Ikotun Police Station.

The remains of the victim were deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

Punch Metro gathered that trouble started when a resident of the house, one Banjo, demanded the payment of the electricity bill from the other occupants.

However, Temitayo was alleged to have refused to pay his share of the bill, which led to an argument between him and Banjo.

The suspect was said to have in a fit of anger taken a dagger with which he threatened to stab Banjo.

It was gathered that Oladotun, who was coming into the compound with his brother and friend, saw Temitayo, who was searching for Banjo to stab him.

When Temitayo could not find his target, he reportedly directed his aggression at Oladotun and stabbed him in the chest.

Oladotun’s sister, Ronke Akindipe, who spoke with Punch Metro, alleged that the Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case tried to cover it up by not informing the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ikotun Police Station, because the suspect was a known face at the station.

She said, “The landlord does not stay in the house, so the person in charge of the electricity bill in the house went to the tenants on Sunday to tell them to settle the bill, but when he got to Temitayo’s apartment to ask for his share of the bill, an argument ensued between them and Temitayo threatened to break the man’s head.

“Banjo ran out of the compound and brought his brother, who is a soldier, and his colleagues and when they came, he was taken to the Ikotun Police Station to write an undertaken that he would not touch Banjo and others in the compound.

“When Temitayo got home, he started threatening to break Banjo’s head for daring to report him at the police station and when Banjo came back, other neighbours told him to run away and Temitayo started pursuing him in the compound.

“Oladotun and one of our brothers and his friend did not have a clue as to what was going on in the compound and they entered, because it did not cross my brother’s mind that he was going to stab him, because the disagreement was between Banjo and Temitayo.

“When Temitayo could not find Banjo, he stabbed my brother in the chest and my brother started shouting for help. When my other brother bent down to carry Oladotun, Temitayo attempted to stab him in the back, but for the intervention of their friend, who used his hand to block the assailant. My brother was rushed to hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“After the incident, people went after Temitayo and almost beat him to a pulp, but the police came to rescue him and took him away to the station. The IPO in charge of the case tried to change the narrative at the station by asking my dad if my brother had an underlying disease for him to have died from stabbing.

“We later learnt that the IPO did not inform the DPO about the matter until we saw the DPO and explained everything to him, and when he called the IPO, he started giving excuses on why he did not report the matter. The suspect was not feeling remorseful for what he did when the case was still with the IPO, but when the DPO intervened, he started feeling remorseful.

“We want justice; we don’t want them to release a criminal to start walking freely on the street, because if not for the DPO, the IPO would have released him as he was bringing up excuses for the suspect.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect to our correspondent, stated that Temitayo was beaten by a mob and he needed to be fit for trial before he could be charged.

He said, “The report we got was that there was a misunderstanding between two neighbours and one stabbed the other and the suspect narrowly escaped mob action because of the timely intervention of the police.

“He is in our custody. The DPO reported the matter to the command headquarters, but the suspect was battered by the mob and we cannot detain him like that; so, he has to be treated under guard. He cannot stand trial the way he is. As soon as he is fit to stand trial, he will be in court.”

Ogun human part dealers beat buyers over N1m fee

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Oyeyemi said the three human part buyers were arrested by policemen in collaboration with the state security outfit, So-safe Corps, alongside a 40-year-old herbalist, Michael Itomu.

The PPRO explained that the suspects were arrested by the Joint Task Force at Idi-Iroko in the Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

According to Oyeyemi, the four suspects were arrested for being in possession of a fresh human hand.

The PPRO stated that the suspects had contracted someone in Abeokuta, who promised to get the human hand for them for N1m.

Suspected ritualists, who deal in human parts in Ogun State, got enraged and beat up some of their customers for failing to pay the agreed sum of N1m for a human hand that was supplied to them.

The suspected ritualists reportedly lured their customers to a bush and beat them to a pulp for failing to pay for the human hand they asked them to provide.

It was gathered that the human part dealers were contracted by three persons, who were interested in money-making rituals.

The suspected ritualists demanded N1m for the ‘commodity’ but the buyers, identified as Matthew Idosu, John Feyisetan and Samuel Adegbola, could not come up with the sum after the hand had been delivered to them.

“It was the action of those, who supplied the hand, that made the whole secret to leak out and which eventually led to their arrest.”

Oyeyemi said following a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer, Idiroko Division, CSP Sunday Opebiyi, detailed his detectives in collaboration with men of the So-safe Corps to ambush the suspects as a result of which three of them were apprehended in Owode-Yewa.

“Their arrest led to the arrest of the herbalist in the early hours of Tuesday, May 19, 2020,” the PPRO added.

He said the fresh human hand had been taken to the Idi-Iroko General Hospital for preservation.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

“He also directed that other members of the syndicate, who provided the hand, should be hunted and brought to justice,” Oyeyemi added.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following information received by policemen attached to the Idi-Iroko Division.

He said the policemen were told that three suspects had sought the help of a herbalist for money rituals.

Oyeyemi added that the herbalist asked them to provide a fresh human hand before he could help them with the money rituals.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that it was Idosu, who contracted a family friend of his in Abeokuta to provide the human hand alongside two others, who are currently at large.

The PPRO stated, “On delivering the hand, the dealers demanded the agreed N1m, but the money was not readily available; this led to a serious scuffle between them and they angrily took away the duo of Samuel Adegbola and John Feyisetan into a bush, where they thoroughly beat them before they were released on May 17, 2020.

Adam Lambert says he's looking for a long term relationship but no plans for marriage

He split from his model boyfriend Jaci Costa Polo in November last year, following a whirlwind six-month romance.

But despite his heartbreak, Queen frontman Adam Lambert says he won't give up looking for Mr Right.

Speaking to Sydney Morning Herald, the American pop sensation, 37, revealed he wants to be in a long-term relationship once his 'circumstances can support it'.

'Deep down I am a romantic, but I am so busy travelling with work that it’s hard to make permanent connections,' he admitted.

The openly gay singer admitted that most of his relationships have been 'temporary', but insisted that he tries to remain friendly with his exes.

When quizzed on whether he wants to eventually get married, Adam said: 'I don’t think you have to get married to prove your commitment to somebody.'

He went on to add that he doesn't have time for children and, if he did, he'd want to have them with a partner.

The Whataya Want From Me hitmaker has been linked to several high-profile men over the years, including Grammy winner Sam Smith.

'He's like, such a nice guy, he's so funny [but] no, there's no romantic rumour,' the UK's The Mirror newspaper reported in February 2017.

'We did ride a rickshaw in London from one club to another, wasted, at like 3 a.m. in the morning. So, there's a lot of bonding.'

Adam's last serious reported boyfriend was hunky Finnish entertainment reporter, Sauli Koskinen, who he dated between 2011 and 2013.

In 2018, Adam candidly spoke about his struggles to find love as a professional pop star, revealing to The Kyle And Jackie O Show that he'd resorted to dating apps.

'Dating is a bit tricky when you're moving around all the time I have to say,' Adam spilled.

'You can meet somebody great and then be like "ok, I'm only here for three days I gotta go, it was a nice first date and goodbye"... It's tough.'

Bread prices may increase by 60%, bakers warn

Bakers in Lagos State have urged the Federal Government to intervene in the prices of baking materials, which may lead to increase in the prices of bread by 60 per cent anytime soon.

The bakers complained that the increase in the prices of baking materials was because of the Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the world.

In a statement by the Lagos Chairmen, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Kosofe and Surulere local chapters, Comrade Taiwo Akintola and Comrade Ibitoye Oladapo, the group expressed sadness over the situation the bakers were battling with.

According to the association, the high cost of baking materials is killing the bakery businesses, as many bakeries are finding it difficult to make profits due to the high cost of the materials.

“A bag of flour that costs N9,000 before COVID-19, now goes for N13,000, while a bag of sugar now costs N24, 000 as against the former price of N13,000.

“Butter is now N12,000 against N7,500, while milk, which was hitherto N29,000, now goes for N52,000. And there is an increase in the Bread packaging cost which is now N12, 000 against the former price of N10,000,” the group said.

They added that the prices of salt, yeast and other baking materials had also hit the roof top.

The association also explained that the instability of foreign exchange, high cost of diesel and other baking materials were reasons given by flour millers for the hike in the prices of baking materials, stressing that the association has appealed to flour millers and other people involved in the selling of baking materials to reduce their prices, but is yet to yield favourable response.

“And that is why we are pleading with Federal Government to intervene in this matter by talking to flour millers and baking material sellers to bring the prices down.

“Master bakers association is one of the largest employers of labour in the country and most of the bakeries are folding up, many Nigerians working in the bakery sector are already losing their jobs,” the group added

While appealing to both federal and state governments to quickly come in and address the situation for the benefit of all, the association maintained that “If we are supposed to follow the trend of increase in the prices of raw materials for our production, the prices of bread may increase by 60per cent,” the bakers said.

RED CARPET: Liverpool to lift first Premier League trophy without fans

Liverpool have been promised they will be allowed a Prem trophy lift, but behind closed doors.

Jurgen Klopp’s men need just two wins from their remaining nine games when the Premier League returns next month to lift the crown for the first time since 1990.

The Kop will be denied the right to witness the historic moment in person with all resumption games taking place in empty stadiums.

But League chief executive Richard Masters vowed that the new champions will be handed the trophy in the traditional manner, allowing them a sort of celebration.

Masters said: “If at all possible, yes, there will be a ceremony and they will pass the trophy round.

“We would like to have a trophy presentation to give the players and staff the moment they have worked so hard for.

“So we would try and do it unless it wasn’t possible because of safety concerns. “From a planning perspective, we are focused on finishing the 2019-20 season, but we also have to plan for all eventualities.”

Meanwhile, the Premier League are considering using fake crowd noises inside stadiums to enhance the viewer experience.

The return of the Bundesliga at the weekend was an advert as to how matches will look once football gets back underway in England.

With empty stands, the only sound was the ball being struck and the occasional shouts from players and coaches.

Lagos state doctors begin indefinite sit-at-home to protest Police harassment

The Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA has directed doctors in state to proceed on an indefinite sit-at-home order to protest what they described as ‘conflicting directives by the government and incessant police harassment’ on medical doctors and other health workers in the state.

In a press statement made available to Vanguard, and jointly signed by the State Chairman of the NMA, Dr Saliu Oseni and the Secretary, Dr Ramon Moronkola, the sit-at-home order is expected to begin today, (Wednesday), 20th May 2020 from 6 pm.

The medical doctors maintained that it was no longer safe for their members to continue to provide healthcare services under the present confused arrangement.

They said the development became necessary as a result of the numerous complaints of police harassment from their members who were either going home after close of work, and some on transit to heed to emergency calls at the various hospitals.

They lamented that, whereas the directives by President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Presidential Taskforce on COVID 19, was clear on the exemption of essential workers including doctors and other health workers, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, has been issuing conflicting directives that essential workers, including doctors and other health workers were not exempted.

“As a direct result of the conflicting directives of the government and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, the NMA was inundated yesterday (Tuesday, 19th of May, 2020) evening of several cases of harassments and intimidation of doctors and other health-workers by officers and men of the Lagos State Police command.

The healthcare workers were either resuming duty, returning home, or on-transit to heed an emergency call.

“There was a most disturbing case of an ambulance conveying an injured patient which was prevented from moving to destination while the attending health-workers were harassed and temporarily detained.

“You will recall that this same ugly situation had occurred sometimes in the early phase of the ongoing lockdown/restriction of movement based on similar conflicting directives from the State Commissioner of Police.

“It took the intervention of the Governor of the State, following a petition by the Association, for normalcy to be restored.”

The Lagos NMA further said that until the Government and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu will wish to operationalise the lockdown/restriction of movement directive, vis-à-vis the status of essential workers, NMA has resolved that it is presently unsafe for her members to continue to provide healthcare services under the present confused arrangement.

They further demanded a written statement, signed by Government and the appropriate Police Authorities, with clear terms on the status of essential services, including healthcare services and its providers.

The medical doctors insisted that the statement must be issued and advertised in the social and mainstream media, as well as a copy submitted to the Secretariat of the Lagos State Branch of NMA before they will call off the sit–at–home order.

Days ago, Idoko disclosed that she has been in isolation for weeks now without showing any symptoms of the disease and insisted that she does not have the virus.

Reacting to the development, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire on Wednesday said Mrs. Idoko had refused to let the NCDC and other medical personnel take her samples, so they can do a final test on her before she is discharged.
