3 Brothers Kill Sibling In Imo Over Proceeds From Mother’s Burial

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command are on the trail of three brothers, Patrick Obieshieke, Chinonso Obieshieke and John Erieka for allegedly killing their blood brother, Remigius Obieshieke, over money realised from the burial of their late mother.

“Meanwhile effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while investigation has commenced in ernest”.

Why Abike Dabiri Attacked Pantami, Communications Minister

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had to go public with her feud with the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, because she had exhausted all options for an amicable resolution, Pulse has learnt.

On May 23, 2020, Dabiri-Erewa recounted how she and members of her staff were locked and thrown out of their office space by Pantami.

“In one year, we don’t have an office. The office we got, given to us by NCC (Nigeria Communications Commission)...but we were actually driven away by the Honourable Minister of communications and Digital Economy, Mr Isa Pantami.

"Within two days, they drove us out with guns and what happened? The place was given to us by NCC….

“You know we all help each other, NCC as an agency of government said there is a place you can use to settle in, and just as we settled in, I was in Ethiopia when I got a call. I thought that it was a joke.

“I came back from Ethiopia on Thursday, this happened on Tuesday. By Friday, when I went to the office, guns, armed men had taken over the place. I thought it was a joke. But here is the thing, I’m a government employee, so is he. It’s government business,” Dabiri-Erewa said between laughs.

A dirty Twitter fight
Pantami would go on to call Dabiri-Erewa a liar. “This is a fat lie from her. The owner of the building @NgComCommission has faulted her lies on their social media platforms. The minister has never given that directives (sic) to any gunman. We need to be very objective in reporting. I have never sent any gunmen there, and I have no one,” he retorted.

Responding, Dabiri-Erewa labelled Pantami a misogynist.

“An Islamic scholar should not lie, Hon Minister ( Phd). You did that to me because I am a woman. Your disrespect for women is legendary. Left the ugly incident behind me since February. But please release all our office equipment. Public office is transient,” Dabiri-Erewa wrote on Twitter.

For most of Sunday, May 24, Dabiri-Erewa was heavily criticized on social media platform Twitter, for calling out a fellow appointee of the President Buhari administration in public.

However, the former member of the House of Representatives said she had been left with no choice after exhausting all resolution channels.

INEC To Pilot E-Voting In 2021 Governorship Elections

In the wake of lifestyle changes occasioned by the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has said it would be adopting more technological tools in discharging its mandate, disclosing of its resolve to pioneer electronic voting in the country by 2021.

This was as the electoral umpire decried the rising cost of elections in the country, saying it would be liaising with the National Assembly to see how political parties can nominate replacements for dead representatives in line with a Supreme Court judgment that votes belong to the parties and not individuals.

INEC disclosed this in a document released Monday in Abuja which was tagged, “Policy on Conducting Elections in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic”, and signed by its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The commission also added that voters without face masks would be disallowed from voting in the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

NNPC Reacts As Nigerians Condemn Appointments Of Mistlt Northerners

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says its appointments always adhere to the principle of transparency and accountability. Kennie Obateru, NNPC spokesperson said this in a statement Sunday.

The corporation in March disengaged some of its staff and appointed new top management officials. This triggered criticisms from many Nigerians, Niger Delta leaders and groups.

But the corporation is insisting that federal character was also a factor in the progression of the newly appointees.

It said many top management officers of the corporation were moved to new positions, while some were promoted based on their verifiable track records of performance.

Obateru said some “Chief Operating Officers, Group General Managers and Managing Directors of subsidiaries were affected in what some industry analysts described as the most objective placement exercise in the recent history of the National Oil Company”.

He noted that the changes saw the re-deployment of the erstwhile COO, Upstream, Roland Ewubare, to the Ventures and Business Development Directorate as COO.

NNPC said Ewubare’s position as COO Upstream was taken over by Adeyemi Adetunji, erstwhile COO in charge of Downstream directorate.

It added that Lawrencia Ndupu, redeployed to the Downstream, is a Physicist and renowned explorationist that has held many key positions.

Bala Wunti, the erstwhile MD of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company was appointed as the new GGM of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS).

The statement added that Lawal Sade, the new MD of the NNPC Trading Company, was the MD of NIDAS, a shipping arm of the company.

The spokesman said the exercise retained Adokiye Tombomieye, from the South-South, as GGM, Crude Oil Marketing.

NNPC explained that the new appointments depicted a leadership determined to ensure placement of square pegs in square holes.

Husband is jailed for murder of his wife 40 years after

It was 1979. The Bee Gees were dominating the top of US charts and Jimmy Carter was President.

Dona Mae Bayerl, 38, was living in Muskego, Wisconsin, with her husband John and their two children, Jodie, then seven, and Jackie, four.

Dona adored raising her two girls. She’d always worked before becoming Bayerl’s second wife, but once married she’d stayed home to be a mum.

The only downside to the new role she loved was that it made Dona more dependent on Bayerl. He dominated at home and controlled their money – something that, according to his ex, reflected his behaviour in his first marriage.

His first wife would later testify that Bayerl had been physically abusive. She’d divorced him on grounds of ‘cruel and inhuman treatment’ after just a few years of marriage.

And it seemed he hadn’t changed.

Dona would regularly write letters to a friend in Michigan and she admitted to her that she was afraid of Bayerl. She said Bayerl could be physically abusive and he had once thrown her down the stairs leading to their basement.

Dona also confided in her friend that Bayerl had asked her to sign paperwork that would give her husband sole ownership of their house if she died. Dona said she’d refused to sign it. Her worried friend had offered her $500 in cash, if she’d needed it, to leave.

May 6 was the last day Dona was seen. Three days later, Bayerl went to the police and said his wife was missing.

He explained that on May 6, they had argued about things including an unfixed television set, and Dona had stormed out of the house and had driven off in the family car to ‘cool off’.

When Dona wasn’t back by 10pm, Bayerl said he’d gone to bed and then heard the car pulling into their garage about an hour later.

There was movement in the house, so he assumed that Dona had returned but then he described hearing the car drive away. Bayerl said Dona didn’t come to bed and he later found the family car in the garage.

When officers asked John why it had taken him so long to report Dona missing, Bayerl admitted that the pair had marriage problems and he thought she would return once she’d calmed down.

Is that what Dona had done? Had she broken free of her controlling husband? There was one huge hole in that explanation. Friends and family said Dona would never have left her two children.

Little Jackie had chicken pox at the time as well and it seemed out of character for Dona to have left for even a few hours – let alone several days.

Having lost her confidence, family said Dona would even be nervous to put the dogs out at night in the back yard, and yet her husband said she’d apparently taken off for three days. There was no sign Dona had taken any clothes or personal belongings. Bayerl said she’d taken $200 in cash but that couldn’t be proven.

Local police started an extensive ground and air search. Landfill sites were scoured with bloodhounds, but Dona couldn’t be found.

Dona’s sister Joan came to stay at the house to look after the children who were bewildered without their mum. It was Joan who spotted a blood stain on the wall inside the garage and on a bottle, also in the garage.

She was also suspicious that Bayerl had done laundry since his wife had gone missing – something he never did even when Dona had been unable to through illness. Bayerl had even washed a quilt and a rug, although they had strange stains on them.

Joan told police and discovered officers were already suspicious of Bayerl’s behaviour.

They searched the house and took the blood as evidence, and found more in the basement, but because of the lack of DNA technology in 1979, they could only determine it was a match to Dona’s blood type – they couldn’t say it was hers. Bayerl had claimed the blood was his after cutting his finger on a mower.

It wasn’t the only reason investigators were focused on Bayerl. When Bayerl had been asked by his colleagues about his missing wife, after reading it in the paper, he denied it was even referring to her and said they must have just had the same name. It was a strange thing to lie about.

On the day Dona had gone missing, Bayerl said they had been out shopping and out to dinner, something the two girls said never happened. They told officers that their mum and dad had been fighting all day and Dona had been under the weather. They described last seeing her when she put them to bed.

With so much suspicion on Bayerl, he was pushed to admit that he’d raised his hand to Dona several times. He also confessed that he’d been sleeping with a local woman – who worked at a bar – for almost two years, visiting her around twice a week.

It seemed very likely to investigators that Bayerl had something to do with Dona’s disappearance. Most people sadly believed that she was dead but without a body, there was no proof of a killing.

The trail ran cold but Bayerl’s photo remained in the case file. Three months after Dona disappeared, Bayerl filed for divorce and it was granted in 1980 – allowing him to marry his third wife, a woman he also went on to abuse.

Dona was officially declared dead in 1986 but her family never gave up hope that they would get answers, and justice for Dona.

When talking with one of his grown-up daughters in 2009, Bayerl admitted something bad must have happened to her mum otherwise she would have contacted her and her sister. It was an unusual thing for him to say.

The missing mum was never forgotten. In 2017, Muskego police released photos of Dona done by a forensic artist to give people an idea of what she might look like.

In 2018, Bayerl was visited by the police who wanted to update him on the investigation. Bayerl admitted that he’d ‘misused’ his wife and called himself a ‘bad husband and father’.

He still denied having anything to do with Dona vanishing. But police had something else. With the development in DNA technology they had managed to test the blood found in the family home. It was a match to Dona’s blood.

With that, and the suspicious statements made by Bayerl, he was arrested at Fort Myers, Florida, where he was now living, and charged with Dona’s murder.

It was a risk. The evidence was largely circumstantial and Dona’s body was never found. But it was the only way a court would ever get the chance to seek justice for Dona and her family.

Bayerl pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder as he was extradited to Wisconsin and continued to insist that he had nothing to do with his wife’s disappearance. Four decades after Dona had disappeared, Bayerl was finally in court in 2019.

Now 79, he was hard of hearing, grey and frail but Dona’s loved ones hadn’t forgotten the man who had frightened Dona. The man who had told so many lies to cover up what had really happened that fateful night.

Bayerl didn’t testify but his defence said there was no proof beyond all reasonable doubt that he’d killed his wife. They didn’t present any evidence.

Prosecutors told the court about the blood in the garage. His first and third wife testified about the domestic violence they’d endured at his hands.

Bayerl’s first wife said he had a ‘wicked temper’ and had once choked her so hard around her neck he left a handprint. Members of Muskego Police Department took the stand to say that his behaviour was unusual after his wife went missing.

And when he was confronted about the blood in the garage, Bayerl had clearly reacted. ‘He had a white T-shirt on and the area of his heart started moving when we told him about the blood stains,’ a former lieutenant said in court.

The prosecutor told the jury, ‘Just because he’s good at concealing the body doesn’t mean he gets to get away with murder.’

After five hours of deliberation, the jury convicted him of first-degree murder. Forty years after the disappearance of his wife, her family finally had answers.

In June 2019, John Bayerl, 79, was sentenced to life in prison. He was ordered not to have any contact with his two daughters, and he was told he would need to pay over $7,000 in restitution for witness expenses and his daughter’s travel expenses.

The police working on the case said it was proof that they never quit and vowed to continue searching for Dona’s body. The conviction is bittersweet for her loved ones.

Without Bayerl admitting what he did, or where he hid Dona’s remains, they will never truly know what happened the night they lost her. But as the case shows, eventually time does reveal the secrets of the guilty.

Teenager is sued for hacking phone of wealthy cryptocurrency investor and stealing $23.8million

An 18-year-old suburban New York high school senior is being sued for allegedly being the mastermind and ringleader of a cybercrime scheme that defrauded a cryptocurrency investor out of millions of dollars in digital currencies.

Michael Terpin, a pioneer in the world of cryptocurrency, is accusing Ellis Pinsky, of Irvington, New York, and 20 of his alleged co-conspirators of stealing $23.8 million of cryptocurrency in January 2018.

Pinsky was just 15 and in 10th grade at the time of the alleged crime. Terpin is seeking triple the amount lost in damages, to the tune of $71.4 million.

'On the surface, Pinsky is an "All American Boy," Terpin said in a complaint filed in federal court in White Plains, New York, but claims in reality he is 'an evil computer genius. The tables are now turned.'

In his complaint, Terpin said Pinsky from Westchester county and his 'gang of digital bandits' would steal from victims after gaining control of their smartphones through 'SIM swaps,' and that Pinsky bragged to friends that he would never get caught.

He is alleged to have written to an acquaintance, 'I could buy you and all your family. I have 100 million dollars.'  The complaint also alleges that an accomplice saw, in December 2017, 'records indicating that Ellis had $70 million.'

The case against Pinsky alleges he was able to hack Terpin's BlackBerry phone and access his 'digital vault' which stored the $23.8 million.

Terpin then alleges that within forty-eight hours, Pinsky had managed to launder the virtual cash.

'In his early teens, Pinsky began hacking computers with the mission of accessing his victims' private accounts where they store their cryptocurrency holdings or private information,' the complaint reads.

According to the New York Post friends believed Pinsky to have made his money though more pedestrian means.

'His best friend thought he was making money through trading Bitcoin and stock,' an insider said.

Pinsky is alleged to have used a portion of the money to maintain a lavish lifestyle, all while living at home with his parents who are believed to thought he made his Bitcoin money winning on video games.

He is alleged to have had an account with JetSmarter, a private jet sharing company and said to drive an Audi R8 worth around $170,000 while wearing pricey Louis Vuitton streetwear. Yet he was also said to be stingy with his cash.

'He had a designer wallet packed with $100 bills but he never liked to pay for anything,' the insider claimed to the Post. 'He was an extreme miser. He anticipated retiring from crime after the Terpin heist.'

'Whether [Pinsky's] parents were recklessly negligent or worse in failing to monitor and control their wayward son remains to be seen,' the complaint read.

The insider described Pinsky as a teenager who had superb organization skills but someone who was also a bully.

'He would tell everyone what to do [during heists]. He bragged about [the Terpin robbery] being his job. He's a very smart guy and a control freak. If you pissed him off, he would start texting you from weird numbers and threaten you. He'd call your parents and say weird things.'

Terpin is accusing Pinsky and his alleged co-conspirators, none identified by name in the complaint, of violating federal laws against racketeering and computer fraud.

Buhari To Nigerians: We Don’t Have Money To Import Food

President Muhammadu Buhari said on Sunday that he observed the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at his State House residence because of the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

He explained that his decision was in compliance with the measures put in place by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 which prohibited mass gatherings.

Buhari was joined at the prayers by family members, including his wife, Aisha, and son, Yusuf.

In a brief interview after the session, Buhari urged Muslims to reflect on the lessons of the period.

He said, “I held Eid prayers at home today with my family, in keeping with the protocol of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 against mass gatherings, as well as the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, suspending Eid congregational prayers across the country.”

Buhari noted that COVID-19 was so devastating that it had reduced developing and developed countries to be on the same level.

He stated, “Nigerians can see that COVID-19 has reduced us, both the developing and developed countries, to the same level. In fact, we have fewer casualties than they we have.”

He called on farmers to double their efforts in producing more food for the country by taking advantage of the rainy season.

“I hope the rainy season would be bountiful so that we get a lot of food.

“I wish the farmers will go to farms and save lives so that we can produce what we need in sufficient quantity so that we don’t have to import food.

“In any case, we don’t have any money to import food. So we must produce what we are going to eat,” he added.

Ex-Roma star, Joseph Bouasse tragically passes away at 21

Former Roma youngster Joseph Bouasse Perfection has tragically passed away at the age of just 21 after suffering a heart attack last night.

The Cameroonian represented the Serie A side's prestigious academy following a successful trial in 2016.

While he never played for the first-team, he did train alongside the likes of Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti in Rome.

According to ESPN's Andrew Cesare, Bouasse's incredible trial success at Roma came after being left on his own at a train station by a trafficker, who had promised him a new life as a professional footballer.

He made his professional debut for Serie B side Vicenza while on loan from Roma in 2017.

Prior to his passing, he represented Universitatea Cluj in Romania, having signed for them in February.

Bouasse arrived in Italy at 16 alongside other child refugees from Cameroon, seeking a new life in Europe.

He was approached by a man who promised him a career as a footballer, but when he arrived at Rome’s Termini Station he was abandoned and alone.

Bouasse, just a teenager a world away from his family, sought refuge at a local centre. He was picked up by Liberi Nantes — Italy’s only team made up solely of refugees.

There he began to enjoy himself and rediscovered his passion for life.
