To further increase land availability for Housing and Infrastructural Development, the Lagos State Government has expressed the desire to continue to create more man-made islands at its waterfront across the State.
The Honourable Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Arch. Ahmed Kabiru Abdullahi, disclosed this at the Year 2020 Ministerial Press Briefing at JJT Park Alausa, Ikeja, to mark the first year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
According to the Commissioner, work has commenced on the reclamation of 100 hectares of the land proposed for mixed-use development named “Ostia Islands”, beside Orange Island at Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Abdullahi added that approval was also granted for the reclamation of 54.58 hectares at Makoko for redevelopment, while the Majidun-Awori Island project will be embarked upon to bring commercial and residential real estate development to the Ikorodu corridor.
While stating that the projects will be financed through Public-Private Partnership, Abdullahi listed other upcoming projects such as King’s City Island, to be constructed on 150 hectares and located 300 metres north of Victoria Garden City; and Olumegbon Royal Land (Palaver Yard Extension) with proposed 6.6 hectares of land.
He also disclosed that the Lagos State Government has continued to work with its partners at the Orange and Gracefield Islands currently undergoing construction during the period under review.
Chrissy Teigen is saying goodbye to her b.r.e.a.s.t implants. The cookbook author revealed on Instagram on Tuesday that her surgery is finally around the corner, months after she publicly revealed that she wanted her implants removed.
"Hi hi! So I posted myself getting a covid test on the twitter, as I'm getting surgery soon. A lot of people are understandably curious (and nosey!) so I'll just say it here: I’m getting my boobs out!" Teigen wrote.
"They’ve been great to me for many years but I’m just over it. I’d like to be able to zip a dress in my size, lay on my belly with pure comfort! No biggie!" she explained. "So don’t worry about me! All good. I’ll still have b.o.o.bs, they’ll just be pure fat. Which is all a tit is in the first place. A dumb, miraculous bag of fat. ❤️."
Teigen opened up about how her opinion of her implants had changed in a March interview with Glamour UK.
"Yeah, I did my b.o.o.bs when I was about 20 years old," she said, noting that she didn’t increase her size, but simply "filled them out, so they are rounder and firmer."
"It was more for a swimsuit thing,” she continued. "I thought, 'If I’m going to be posing, laid on my back, I want them to be perky!' But then you have babies and they fill up with milk and deflate and now I am screwed."
"If I could do one thing, it would be to have a lift," Teigen added. "I think you’re supposed to replace [implants] every 10 years. But when you have kids you think about [the risks] of surgery and I think, 'This is not the way I want to die, in boob surgery.'"
The mom of two later revealed that she was trying to remove her implants, but the coronavirus outbreak had put her plans on hold.
Ondo State Government has lifted the ban on religious gatherings, in churches and mosques.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the announcement at a press briefing on Wednesday.
He said churches will only operate on Sundays, while mosques will open for worship only on Fridays.
Akeredolu however emphasised that all the precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 such as the use of face-maks and social distancing should be strictly observed.
In the same vein, the state has recorded its second death from the virus in Ifedore LGA.
The deceased was said to have died at home.
There are now 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ondo State, with two deaths, 19 discharged and three still on admission.
For the fifth consecutive day, there are no new cases of COVID-19 cases in New Zealand, ministry of health officials announced on Wednesday. The positive metrics do not end there – there are also no COVID-19 hospitalizations in the country, following the discharge of a patient from Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, officials shared the hopeful statistics. The total number of recovered cases is now at 1,462, and there are just 21 remaining active cases of COVID-19.
The country has conducted a total of 267,435 coronavirus tests and contact tracers are working to monitor the remaining cases through the NZ COVID Tracer app.
New Zealand also launched another app on Wednesday, which will provide health care professionals with access to information on the updated case definition, on local clinical pathways, and on guidance around use of personal protective equipment.
The country has slowly been opening after closing its borders, which has been "so important for us to keep the infection out of the country," public health official Dr. Ashley Bloomfield said during the press conference. Bloomfield also credited proper hygiene such as hand washing.
With about 1,500 confirmed cases and only 21 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, New Zealand has fared much better than most countries. Still, officials are taking their time to drop the alert level from two to one – the least severe level.
In late April, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that New Zealand had "won" the battle against widespread community transmission of the virus.
Ardern said that to fully "succeed" in the fight against the coronavirus, the country must "hunt down" the remaining cases of the virus. "There is no widespread, undetected community transmission in New Zealand. We have won that battle," said Ardern. "But we must remain vigilant if we are to keep it that way."
The prime minister has been praised for her handling of the pandemic – and how she's dealt with the economic blows suffered at the hands of coronavirus. Last month, Ardern announced she and other top government officials would take a 20% pay cut. The pay cut will last six months, "as we acknowledge New Zealanders who are reliant on wage subsidies, taking pay cuts and losing their jobs as a result of COVID-19's global pandemic," Ardern said during a press briefing.
A care home has allowed residents to meet their family members for the first time since the lockdown began - albeit at a distance.
There were emotional scenes at Eothen care home in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, as 90-year-old Margaret was able to see her son John Yeoman, 62, and his 63-year-old wife Denise.
But there is no physical contact and both residents and visitors must practice social distancing.
Care home manager Dawn Esslemont said: "You could see the emotion, and it was lovely to see that."
The home is carrying out routine coronavirus testing of staff and residents, and so far none of the 33 people who live there have come down with the virus.
Mrs Esslemont explained that visitors were asked to make sure they felt fully well and they were temperature-tested upon arrival, and that visits were by appointment only.
They then go through a side gate into the garden of the home where they could see their relative while they maintain a two-metre gap, with the strict rule of no physical contact.
Mrs Esslemont said: "Because we have been so lucky not to have any coronavirus in the home - none of the residents have any symptoms - we have taken the small steps forward to make sure residents can have access to their relatives.
"It's lovely for the residents to see them face-to-face, we have been working very hard trying to keep them in touch via phone, FaceTime and Zoom, but they are not the same.
"There's no hugs, kisses or touching as we have to be careful, we need to take little steps forward."
The manager was full of praise for the efforts of her 42 members of staff who have shielded themselves at home and stuck to the guidelines to protect the residents, aged between their 70s and 105, who they look after.
She said: "They have pulled together.
"It has been extremely hard, worrying about coming to work and supporting the residents as best we can, then worrying about possibly taking it home to the family.
"I think the staff have made a lot of commitment to the home and they have done a fabulous job."

The General Manager Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, stated this while speaking at an aviation webinar organised by Women in Aviation (WIA) Nigeria with the theme: “Aviation: The New Norm in the post COVID-19.”
Yakubu warned passengers to expect delays and long hours of checks and re-checks from when they arrive the airport until they depart.
She said noted escorts of VIPs would no longer be allowed to follow their principals into the terminal.
“We are going to expect flight delays, flights will experience delays from checks and re-checks. If you are travelling, I will expect a potential traveler to leave home hours before his flight. Why do I say this?
“Because there is going to be a lot of checks in the front of the terminal we have been told that some may activities and procedures will take place in front of the terminal. So air travelers are expected to leave home very early so that they can get to the airport on time,” Yakubu said.
