Governor Sacks SSG In Nasarawa Over 'Fraud'

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state on Monday bowed to pressure and announced the sack of the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Tijani Aliyu.

The SSG’s sack may not be unconnected with the directive handed down to the governor last week demanding for the immediate sack of the SSG over alleged embezzlement of N1bn meant for the renovation and fencing of schools as commissioner of education during ex-Governor Tanko's administration.

It would be recalled that the state House of Assembly had, in March, constituted an investigative committee to probe the SSG which had indicted the former commissioner and recommended to the governor for his immediate removal from the office as SSG.

The governor in a letter signed by the permanent secretary, Government House Administration directed the SSG to hand over all government properties in his possession to the permanent Secretary Cabinet office of the SSG immediately.

The governor who thanked the SSG for his services to his administration and support whished him well in his future endeavours.

It would be recalled that Governor Sule has been under pressure to sack Tijani Aliyu over his involvement in the misappropriation of the state government N1bn meant for renovation of Schools projects during his reign as the commissioner of education in the Tanko Almakura administration.

The state House of Assembly had the Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi gave the order in Lafia after the house deliberation on the report of the committee investigating the alleged N1 billion released in 2018 for the renovation /fencing of Secondary schools in the state.

The house ordered the governor to sack the SSG following a motion moved by Hon Mohammed Alkali (APC Lafia North) and seconded by Hon Ibrahim Muluku (APC Nasarawa Eggon East).

According to the Speaker, the former Commissioner displayed inefficiency, incompetency and ineffectiveness in the performance of his official duties.

“Based on the resolution of the House, Gov. Abdullahi Sule is hereby directed to immediately sack the SSG, Alhaji Aliyu Ahmed Tijani to save the government the embarrassment. I will request the clerk to communicate the House’s resolution to Gov Abdullahi Sule for his immediate action,” the speaker declared.

Woman Pours Boiling Water On Husband While He Was Sleeping For Slapping Her

One Mr Oyinkro Miebode, a middle-aged man, was having a sound sleep in his sitting room along INEC Road in Kpansia area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State in the morning of June 3rd, 2020, when his wife poured hot water on him over domestic issues, inflicting him with severe skin burns.

According to Oyinkro, trouble started on the evening of June 2nd, 2020, when he slapped her for raining insults on him because he came too early to meet her somewhere in town to pick up her mobile phone.

Explaining further, he said she called him from her office to meet her somewhere to pick up her phone by 8pm for security purposes because she would be coming home late that evening but that when he closed from work about 6 pm, his boss dropped him off at the exact location she had asked him to meet her.

He said while hanging around until 8pm, he suddenly saw his wife walking pass him about 7 pm, so he ran to her to notify her of his presence but instead she got angry that he came to early than they agreed.

He said “in shock, I then asked why is she angry that I came early. I also asked her why she didn’t tell me she would be coming early as well. That was when she started accusing me of monitoring her. She insulted me till we got home. I thought that we could settle the matter at home but it was hell.

“So out of anger, I gave her two warning slap and instructed her to go to the bedroom and sleep. At that point, a friend called me to come to his place for a private birthday party, and unfortunately, I came back home at about 1 am. So I was sleeping on the sofa in my living room when suddenly she bathed me with hot water.”

According to one of his siblings that resides with them “they had a quarrel in the morning of the June 3rd over domestic issues because she has been acting up lately. So on that day she kept nagging and insulting him over the matter to a point he couldn’t bear that he got angry and slapped her telling her to keep quiet, which she did, thinking the quarrel was over.

“After everything, he left and went to sleep, later she went to his sister asking her if there was kerosene in the stove. The sister told her that there was no kerosene. So she went out and bought kerosene to fill the Stove. Meanwhile, I thought she boiled the water for bathing or to bake garri. I even notified her when the water started boiling.

“She then poured the boiling water into a small basin and went to the living room while he was sleeping then poured it on him. Waking up from that shock he was shouting in pains and scratching his body not knowing he was peeling his own skin.”

However, several attempts to reach the alleged culprit, Mrs Maureen Miebode, proved abortive as she is said to be in hiding. The family of the victim, however, revealed that she has been calling her husband with strange phone numbers begging him to forgive her.

How I landed in isolation despite negative COVID-19 result – Businesswoman

A businesswoman, who identified herself simply as Martha, has demanded explanation from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control over her isolation at the Asokoro District Hospital, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, despite testing negative for the COVID-19.

The 33-year-old demanded an apology from the government agency and compensation for the trauma she suffered.

She was reportedly advised by her sibling, who is a medical doctor, to go for the COVID-19 test at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Martha told punch correspondent that on May 11, she and her husband went for the test with the support of her brother.

Two days later, her husband’s result was sent via a text message.

She stated, “Throughout that day, I was worried that mine was not sent.

“The next day, my husband called the NCDC to complain. They told him that they had been trying to call me, but my line was not reachable and that they did not text people who were positive.

“My husband asked if that meant that I was positive. They told him that they would call me.”

Martha said after the conversation with her husband, several officials of the NCDC bombarded her with phone calls, demanding her house address.

She said she realised that the officials had visited her office with the intention of whisking her to the isolation centre.

The woman said due to the rate of phone calls, she conditioned her mind that she was indeed positive.

She stated, “I already had an idea from the tone of their voices what they wanted to do to me. I took my bag, arranged my house and told them not to come to my house that I would tell them where to meet me.

“With all that, the calls were still coming in. In five minutes, I could get up to 20 missed calls. I met them in Asokoro and I saw several ambulances waiting for me.”

She said despite the assurances given to her brother that she would be taken to the Gwagwalada Hospital, where a bed space had been provided for her, a director ordered the health workers to take her to the Asokoro District Hospital as punishment for her delay.

Martha, who spoke to Punch Metro on her 14th day at the isolation centre, said another COVID-19 test was conducted on her two days earlier.

She said, “They came and told some people that the test result was inconclusive. I was not told anything.

“By the evening, I decided to call the doctors and ask about my result. They gave excuses and later said I tested positive. I wondered how that was even possible.

“While I was angry and sat on the bed, I got a text message from the NCDC that the test I did on May 11, 2020, came back negative.

“Meaning, those people took me to the hospital though I was negative. If I am positive now as the doctors said, it means that I was infected in the isolation centre.”

Our correspondent obtained a copy of the text.

The text read, “FCT sample collection centre. Dear ***, test result @11/5/2020. Negative. Please continue to observe all precautionary measures.”

Martha explained that when she confronted the doctors with the result sent to her, she was told that there could be a mix-up.

She said late in the night, an NCDC official called her on the phone and suggested that it could be her husband’s result that was sent to her.

“I really need to know. Is this a money-making machine? They brought me here for what? I have been treated wrongly and I need justice. People should be held accountable. They have put my health and family in danger. I have been abused. They should apologise instead of seeking to cover up their mistakes and people should be sanctioned,” the victim said.

The businesswoman also lamented alleged tribalism at the hospital, saying people from the northern region were given VIP sections.

She said patients got different kinds of nose masks based on ethnic considerations.

When contacted, the media aide to the Director-General of the NCDC, Emeka Oguanuo, said the agency did not communicate results to individuals, adding that it was the responsibility of the state epidemiology team.

Punch correspondent called the number that sent the result to Martha.

As of press time, no one took the calls as the phone rang out.

Nigerian Doctors Declare Nationwide Strike June 15 Amid COVID-19

The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria will commence a nationwide strike on Monday, June 15, 2020.

Dr Aliyu Sokomba, National President of NARD, said this in an official letter. He said the association found it necessary to take “the painful decision” following the inability of the government to meet its demands.

He said, “Consequent upon the 14 days ultimatum duly served the Federal Government for indefinite strike action, in accordance with the resolution of the Ordinary General Meeting of the Association on the 29th of May 2020, we hereby notify you that all resident doctors, medical officers below the rank of Principal Medical Officer (PMO) and House Officers across all the Federal and State hospitals in Nigeria, shall be embarking on a total and indefinite strike action effective 12:01am on Monday, 15th June 2020.

“It is important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of the patients as the strike shall be total and indefinite. No service of any kind, be it emergency, care at COVID-19 isolation and treatment centres shall be exempted. We sympathize with the patients and Nigerian populace.

“For purpose of clarity, the demands on which the ultimatum was predicated include the following; Provision of grossly inadequate appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for all healthcare workers, Immediate reversal of the illegal disengagement of all 26 resident doctors in Jos University Teaching Hospital, and the payment of all salaries owed them, in keeping with provisions of the Medical Residency Training Act.

“Universal Implementation of the Medical Residency Training Act in all federal and state hospitals and ensuring pay parity among doctors of equal cadre.

“Immediate implementation of the revised hazard allowance and payment of the COVID-19 inducement allowance as agreed with by the Federal Government and healthcare workers three months ago.

“Provision of funding for Medical Residency Training in the 2021 Appropriation bill. Payment of all arrears owed our members in federal and states tertiary health institutions, arising from the consequential adjustment of the National minimum wage.

“Stoppage and immediate refund of all illegal, unjust and callous cut in salaries of our members by Kaduna State and other state governments.”

Raheem Sterling Says "The Only Disease Right Now Is Racism" As UK Protests

England and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has backed protests taking place across the UK, saying "the only disease right now is the racism that we are fighting".

Thousands of people have taken part in Black Lives Matter marches in the UK, despite government warnings to avoid mass gatherings because of the threat of coronavirus.

"This is the most important thing at this moment in time because this is something that is happening for years and years," Sterling, 25, said.

Large protests have been held in London, Bristol, Manchester, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh following the death of American George Floyd.

Floyd, 46, died while being arrested on 25 May in Minneapolis. The four officers involved have since been charged over the death, which sparked days of protest in the US and demonstrations across the world.

Speaking to the BBC's Newsnight programme, Sterling said: "Just like the pandemic, we want to find a solution to stop it.

"At the same time, this is what all these protesters are doing. They are trying to find a solution and a way to stop the injustice they are seeing and they are fighting for their cause.

"As long as they are doing it peacefully and safely and not hurting anybody and not breaking into any stores, they continue to protest in this peaceful way."

Many sports people have spoken out in protest over Floyd's death, with Sterling's England team-mate Jadon Sancho making on-pitch statements in Germany's Bundesliga.

Sterling, whose City side return to Premier League action on 17 June, has previously spoken of racist abuse he has suffered and the media's portrayal of black players.

Asked whether speaking out makes his job as a footballer harder, he said: "First and foremost, I don't really think about my job when things like this happen. I think about what is right.

"And at this moment in time, there's only so much people can take. There's only so much communities and other backgrounds can take - especially black people.

"It's been going on for hundreds of years and people are tired and people are ready for change.

"I keep saying this word. I see a lot of people on social [media], supporting the cause. But this is something that needs more than just talking.

"We need to actually implement change and highlight the places that do need changes.

"But this is something that I myself will continue to do, and spark these debates and get people in my industry looking at themselves and thinking what they can do to give people an equal chance in this country.

"Hopefully other industries can do that, and everyday society and the system as well."

23-year old accidentally amputates his hand while making bomb to 'blow up hot cheerleaders'

A man accidentally amputated his own hand while making an explosive device which could have been designed with the aim to kill "hot" cheerleaders, the FBI claims.

Cole Carini, 23, arrived at hospital on June 2 with a missing hand, shrapnel wounds on his neck and throat, and fingers missing on his other hand.

He claimed the injuries were the result of a lawn mowing accident, but a police officer became suspicious after learning Carini had previously been convicted on explosive charges.

Police soon obtained a warrant to search Carini’s home in Richlands, Virginia, US, and called the FBI, who discovered drops of blood leading from a minivan outside the residence to a bedroom.

During the search, investigators found a "piece of human skin" and a "skin colour chunk believed to be flesh," an arrest affidavit claims.

The affidavit also claims the FBI discovered a plastic bottle containing Triacetone Triperoxide - a substance used in the creation of improvised explosive devices.

Cops also observed substantial blood spatter on the walls of the second floor bedroom.

Investigators also searched a shed on a neighbouring property belonging to Carini's grandmother.

Officers found PVC pipes, pieces of loose wires, empty chemical containers and a hot plate cooking surface, the affidavit claims.

On the floor of the shed, cops found a "crumpled letter," which read: "He casually walked through the shopping mall, his jacket concealed deadly objects.

"He was doing it and was assured it must be done. Even if he died this statement was worth it!

"He had... of tension that would come and go as he approached the stage of hot cheerleaders.

"A dead seriousness sank in as he realised he was truly passing the point of no return.

"He decided I will not back down I will not be afraid of the consequences no matter what I will be heroic I will make a statement like Elliott Rodgers did he thought to himself."

Elliot Roger was a mass shooter who killed six people and injured 14 others during a rampage in Santa Barbara in 2014.

Roger described himself as a "kissless virgin" in a manifesto penned before his death, and said he wanted to take his anger out on women.

He was dubbed an "incel or involuntarily celibate killer", and according to the Daily Beast.

Incel violence has been linked to at least 53 killings in recent years.

The FBI questioned Carini about his injuries and repeatedly told them they were the product of a lawn mower accident.

While searching the property, investigators noticed the grass in his yard was around six inches high, and arrested Carini on Tuesday.

He was charged with one count of lying to federal agents and is due to appear in court in the coming days.

Billionaire prince of Monaco says his life of lavish luxury can be unpleasant sometimes

Billionaire Prince Albert is the ruler of Monaco – one of the most glamorous, and wealthiest, countries on Earth.

The sovereign Prince of Monaco, Albert, has a personal fortune estimated at more than $1billion.

Prince Albert has access to a life of luxury, with hotels, casinos, and supermodels, but he laments Royal life, complaining there is "not enough room for spontaneous activities and spontaneity has to be scheduled".

He has waived his right to privacy to film a behind-the-scenes BBC series, The Times reports.

Paparazzi are usually banned in Monaco to protect its VIP residents but director Michael Waldman was given backstage access to the royal palace, luxury hotels, casinos and the F1 Grand Prix.

Viewers are given a tour of a new £35,000-a-night penthouse at the Monaco's Hôtel de Paris, and are shown around luxury yachts.

His aim is to draw younger, wealthier, people to Monaco, a city with a notoriously rich, and ageing population.

Princess Camilla of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, one of the Prince’s friends has even explored the idea of their own Influencer Awards.

It is a new event aimed at luring jet-set YouTubers and Instagrammers to promote the charms of the Côte d’Azur to their social media followers.

Prince Albert was dubbed a playboy prince in his youth, fathering two children before marrying Princess Charlene in 2011.

He is calmer now, and told Mr Waldman on days where there are meetings he'd rather not be attending, he thinks of what will come after.

Prince Albert said: "I can’t say that every day is wonderful bliss and enjoyment. It’s not easy for anybody in a position of responsibility.

"There are some very unpleasant meetings.

"I try to think what nice things will come after my meetings are over, having a nice glass of wine."

He also said he fondly remembers his mother, Grace Kelly, the Hollywood actress who became Princess of Monaco, as "more tolerant" than his father.

Kelly died in a car crash in 1982, and his father, Rainier III , who did not remarry, in 2005.

Prince Albert said: "It’s just incredible that so many years after her passing she still very much has a vivid presence in a lot of people’s minds and hearts.

"We did behave when we knew that he was watching. He had ways of raising his voice that was impressive for a six, seven, eight, nine or ten-year-old. Even at 21."

Uti’s r.a.p.e accuser deletes her twitter account, he reacts

Kambili Korie, the lady who accused Uti Nwachukwu of r*ping her, has deleted her Twitter account – with which she raised the allegation.

Her action came after Uti petitioned the police and demanded a full-scale investigation into the r.a.p.e allegation.

Kamnili Kore had taken to Twitter to allege that Uti r.a.p.e.d her in August 2017.

She went further by sharing a screenshot of a message from a user saved with the name “Uti 2” apologizing for forcefully having his way with her.

However, a recent check showed that the Twitter user’s account has now been deleted.

Reacting to the latest development, Uti said he will still be going forward with the investigation into the r.a.p.e allegations.

Uti’s words on his IG page;

''I didn’t want to be speaking these unfortunate allegations again, but it’s also important that I update you all on recent developments.

My accuser- whose account was created only recently to accuse me of this horrendous crime, has been deleted before investigators could identify her.

This is unfortunate because it doesn’t fully exonerate me from the accusation the way the courts would have done; I REALLY needed the opportunity to prove my innocence and this culprit face the full penalties.

However, I am still going to continue to work and cooperate with the police to get to the bottom of this.

Victims of sexual abuse need to be heard and believed, and it’s why I will continue to pursue this to prevent anyone else from making it even harder from victims to speak out.

Thank you all for your messages and show of support; it’s been a difficult period, but I appreciate how so many of you who know me, have stood by me.''

Family-of-five killed in plane crash on way to funeral

A family of five including two young children were among those killed in a plane crash while on their way to a funeral.

The Lamont family and their pilot perished after the aircraft they were travelling in exploded mid-flight about 100 miles from Atlanta, Georgia.

Witness Tracy Carter described seeing it circling before catching fire, reports The Union Recorder.

Parts of the wreckage landed in a field while the bulk came to a stop in a wooded area where it was extinguished - though no-one aboard survived.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills identified the victims as pilot Larry Ray Pruitt, 67, of Morriston, Florida; Shawn Charles Lamont, 41, of Gainesville, Florida; his wife Jody Rae Lamont, 43; and their two children, Jayce, 6, and Alice, 4.

The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed the Piper PA31-T Cheyenne twin-engine turbo prop plane was flying from Williston, Florida, to Newcastle, Indiana.

A National Transportation Safety Board spokesman said pilot Larry Pruitt had radioed air traffic controllers about deviating around troublesome weather conditions and also enquired about re-routing.

While Williston Airport manager Benton Stegall said Mr Pruitt had called about getting a fuel top up.

Also a friend of the tragic pilot, Mr Stegall told The Gainesville Sun: "Larry always had a smile on his face and would crack a joke for anyone that needed it."

Former colleague Shawn Lamont runs J & S Trailer Service, Inc, and a Facebook post from the company announced the news "with a very heavy heart".

"We have lost a very special family...May they all Rest In Peace," it added.
