Police detectives from the Warri Area Command, Delta State have arrested the Founder/General Overseer of Victory Revival Fasting & Prayer Ministry, Bishop Elijah Orhonigbe for allegedly raping a nineteen-year-old girl (names withheld) in Warri.
The popular Cleric who is cooling his heels in the police cell in ‘A’ Division Warri, was arrested on Friday, June 5.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen in Warri, the Warri Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, ACP Mohammed Muktar Garba, said the cleric was arrested following a complaint by the mother of the victim at his office.
ACP Garba noted that the mother of the victim is a member of the church where her daughter was allegedly r.a.p.e.d by the said Bishop. “The woman brought the lady to the church pastor. I think what really happened is that the pastor drugged that lady and r.a.p.e.d her. I personally took the lady to the hospital because she was in coma for two (2) days.
“We are looking for this pastor for the past three weeks. Later on, used my detectives to trace where he hides and I got him arrested and am charging him to court now.
This is somebody that I arrested since Friday. He has been in cell Friday, Saturday, Sunday and today Monday, I am charging him to Court,” ACP Garba said. In a swift reaction, the suspect, Bishop Elijah Orhonigbe denied the allegations levelled against him. The cleric who spoke with newsmen on his way out of the Police Station to Court said,”I did not r.a.p.e her.”
According to Bishop Orhonigbe, “She came to church on that faithful day on the 20th of May. The mother brought her to the church for deliverance and I prayed for her in front of the altar in the presence of three people. Immediately, after the prayer, she left the church to 12.
She came back 5 ‘o’clock with policemen and crowd saying this is the man. If not, I did not r.a.p.e her.” The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa confirmed the arrest of the Bishop in a telephone chat with Vanguard Correspondent in Warri.
CP Inuwa said, “Yes, I am aware even though out of the state on official duties. I have been fully briefed by the Area Commander. It’s a case of r.a.p.e in which the Bishop drugged the girl in the pretext of deliverance when he thereafter raped her.
Six staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.
The commission disclosed this on its Twitter handle yesterday.
The six staff were said to be attached to the office of the Executive Director (Projects), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, But Ojougboh was said to have tested negative for the disease.
“As NDDC headquarters staff undergo isolation and Covid19 screening, six of 33 staff members in the Office of the Executive Director (Projects), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, have tested positive to Covid-19. However, Ojougboh tested negative,” the tweet read.
Earlier, the headquarters of the agency was shut down after the confirmation that Ibanga Bassey Etang, one of its directors, died from complications of COVID-19.
The Kogi state government has again countered the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) claims on the existence of Coronavirus in the state, claiming that the alleged index case in the state only suffered a bee sting.
Kingsley Fanwo, the commissioner for information and communication in the state, said in a statement on Monday that the index case had been discharged without seeing his test result.
The NCDC had, on May 27, announced two index cases for Kogi. Abubakar Ahmad, the chief imam of Kabba, turned out to be one of the two index cases of COVID-19 in the state.
But the state government rejected the results after raising questions as to how the cases were handled including the decision to manage the patients at the National Hospital in Abuja.
Fanwo accused the NCDC of plotting to announce the third case in the state through unverifiable processes.
"The Chief Imam, an upright and outstanding man who is only interested in the truth confirmed that we have known all along – that he did not test positive for COVID-19 and received no result of such a diagnosis neither did his doctors at the National Hospital, Abuja where he was confined, advise him on it,” he said.
The statement partly read, “The cleric maintains that he suffered from nothing beyond complications from an attack by bees, medical conditions which pre-date the COVIDA-19 pandemic and stress from travels associated with his work. Till he was released yesterday, he was held in conditions which allowed him to interact with visitors.
“The son’s case is even stranger as he has a negative test result to confirm that he is COVID-19 free. Ditto all his siblings who were tested in the days following as the NCDC serially sought an off-taker for the second COVID-19 case which they had earlier foisted on Kogi State.
“Throughout his father’s time in the custody of the NCDC, and keeping with his COVID-19 negative status, the son remained at liberty and was his father’s primary helper. He was never hospitalised and was allowed to go home each day and return the next day. He was allowed to mingle freely with family, visitors, hospital staff and others. Yet, till this day, he remains the second case of COVID-19 allocated to Kogi state on the NCDC’s scoreboard.
“We suspect that NCDC’s lackadaisical attitude may not be unconnected with the knowledge that no infection has been found. Just like in the case of the Chief Imam and his family, let it be known that we are looking out for our citizens and will demand full reckoning should any harm come to her.”
Wilfried Zaha has opened up on his anguish at being left to deal with social media gossip that he slept with the daughter of his then boss David Moyes during his time at Manchester United.
Despite being one of United's best players on their pre season tour of Asia, Zaha was left out of the first-team for the start of the 2013-2014 season and rumours about the reasons for his omission began to circulate.
In an interview with former team-mate Rio Ferdinand for The Locker Room, the winger explained how he felt obliged to discredit the Twitter gossip because he had not received any guidance from the club.
'No one at the club at all told me anything, I didn't know what to do whatsoever,' he said.
'I remember tweeting something about it saying 'silly rumours' because it was getting too much so I had to say something myself and then I remember the club media messaging me saying "you shouldn't have done that, you shouldn't have done this" and I'm thinking you haven't helped me.
'I'm here by myself, struggling because people are telling me I've slept with the manager's daughter and that's why you're not playing me.
'The funny thing is, it's carried on for so long I felt like, is the manager not going to come and have a word with me over this?
'That's how I felt and I'm thinking this is ridiculous man. Up to this day I still get people that think that's true and I've never even met his daughter.'
Zaha was sent out on loan to Cardiff in January before spending the following season with his former club Crystal Palace.
His return to Selhurst Park was made permanent on the final day of the 2015 winter transfer window.
The winger spoke about the difficulties of being on his own in Manchester, having moved away from his family in London, and how difficult it was to deal with the rumours surrounding his personal life.
'It was stressful,' the 27-year-old added. 'I'm 19, I'm living in Manchester and all of a sudden we come back from a tour and I'm not playing for no reason so obviously are going to make up rumours.
'I'm in Manchester where I'm by myself and I'm not playing on top of that so it's stressful enough to have a rumour.
'People came out with it, I see it trending on Twitter, people came out with how can he play so well on tour then just be dashed out like that with nothing, no one telling us anything - he must have slept with the manager's daughter.
'And that started going and I'm 19, and my Twitter is blowing up. I've never had it before and my Twitter is blowing up and there's no one for me to speak to.'
The Ivory Coast international has prospered since his return to south London with 31 goals and 42 assists in his last five Premier League seasons.
Ali Ndume, Senator representing Borno South in the National Assembly, has called for a slash of the salary of civil servants who no longer go to work due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ndume made this known during a media briefing in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Monday.
He stated that despite the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, the State and the Federal governments are spending more to sustain personnel and non-personnel costs.
He opined that those who are not going to work now should be given palliatives and paid less.
He said “The government should critically look at the recurrent and personnel expenditure which consumes about 70% of the budget.
“More should be pumped into Capital and people should make sacrifices because this is the time to look at issues critically.
“I think there should be more sacrifice, especially on the personnel side.
“How can you sustain the same personnel and overhead cost when even the work they are doing, most people don’t go to the office now and they are being paid fully for the month. Is there any justification for that?”
“If you can’t work because of the pandemic, then you should be given palliatives and be paid less,” he added.

Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been defaced yet again, this time in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Sunday, social media posts first alerted a wider audience to the latest attempt which saw the star spray painted black with the letters BLM underneath and what’s allegedly a bag of dog feces on top. The day saw around 20,000 people march down Hollywood Boulevard to protest ongoing police brutality in the US after the murder of George Floyd.
Trump has come under fire for his attempts to further fan the flames, threatening violence against those protesting across the nation.
Since the reality TV host became US president in 2016, there have been a number of attempts to vandalise his star including, most successfully, a pickaxe attack in 2018. In 2016, James Lambert Otis, 53, was also recorded using a jackhammer and a pickaxe to remove Trump’s name. The star has also been the subject of protest art, with a wall erected around it in 2016 to symbolize the president’s policy on immigration. The Celebrity Apprentice host, accused of sexually harassing or abusing 25 women, received his star in 2007.
In 2018, West Hollywood City Council voted to remove it, a largely symbolic gesture as the star isn’t actually in West Hollywood.
The strip in Hollywood features multiple stars dedicated to celebrities, with recently announced honorees including Spike Lee, Octavia Spencer and Julia Roberts. Recipients are selected by a committee that considers applications throughout the year and stars are purchased for $30,000.
Other celebrities who have seen their stars vandalised include convicted rapist Bill Cosby and Ellen Degeneres.

Disional Crimes Officer (DCO) 1 attached to Akwanga Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa State command, DSP Francis Onugha (aka Dangote), was found dead and naked in his bedroom, after s3x romp, at the Police Barrack in Akwanga.
An eyewitness account told Vanguard that the late DCO’s doors were discovered to be opened and his lifeless body with fumes on his nose and mouth was found.
According to the source which alleged that “an unknown lady slept in the room with the late police officer, but sneaked out when she discovered that the man died.”
It was not, however, clear when filling this report as a different version of the story had it that the unknown lady threw the deceased’s two phones into the water, while another version had it that the unknown lady deleted her contact and communications with the late police officer.
“He used to wake up very early and go round duty posts to supervise police officers on duty, but that early Sunday, he couldn’t come out, we suspected something must be wrong, so when we rushed into the house, we found him dead,” a source said.
Those who knew him in and around Akwanga town described him as a disciplined police officer who knows his job, and a no-nonsense officer’ the source said.
When contacted, the Police spokesperson, Nasarawa Command, Nansel Ramhan who confirmed the death of DSP Onugha on phone, however, denied if the officer died after s3x romp. According to the PPRO, the corpse had been deposited at Akwanaga General Hospital for an autopsy to be conducted to ascertain the reason for his sudden death.
He said an investigation had already commenced to unravel the cause of his sudden death.
A young Indonesian couple were whipped 100 times each for having sex without being married and violating the extremist Islamic law implemented in the region.
The two lovers were flogged in the province Aceh, the only Muslim-majority region in the country that imposes extreme Islamic law, with a rattan cane outside a mosque on the western tip of Sumatra.
The man's flogging was paused briefly when he could not stand the pain and someone else had to finish lashing the woman.
Usually large crowds of hundreds of people watch floggings but fewer people were there on Friday because of the coronavirus pandemic.
'Not so many people came because today because they've seen it many times before - or they're afraid of COVID-19,' local resident Faisal said.
Local officials insisted they took adequate safety measures by checking the couple's temperatures and wearing masks.
'This young couple deserved a hundred lashes because they violated Islamic law,' said Agus Kelana Putra, head of general crime division at the prosecutor's office in Aceh Besar district.
A different man was also flogged 40 times for being caught in a hotel room with a girl but the underage girl was spared.
The law in Aceh, locally known as Qanun, allows authorities to whip people for charges including gambling, adultery, drinking alcohol and sex with someone from the same gender.
Aceh is able to enforce Qanun law because it has an autonomy deal that was made with the Indonesian government in 2005 that ended a decades-long separatist insurgency.
Human rights groups have slammed public caning as inhumane and cruel and Indonesia's president, Joko Widodo, has called for it to end.
BTS have donated $1million to Black Lives Matter in support of protests and demonstrations in the US over the killing of George Floyd.
The Korean boy band's label, Big Music Entertainment, confirmed to Reuters the group had made the generous donation.
The seven-piece band took to Twitter to say they are against racism and violence with the hashtag BlackLivesMatter.
They wrote: 'We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.'
The hashtag quickly went viral among BTS' ardent fanbase who started another hashtag, MatchAMillion, as many of them also made donations.
The movement encouraged the group's fanbase, known as ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth) to match their $1million donation.
The death of 46-year-old George Floyd in Minneapolis has sparked days of demonstrations across the nation over police brutality against African-Americans.
A newly erected fence in front of the White House that was put up to keep protesters back has been turned into a Black Lives Matter mural.
Demonstrators demanding justice for the death of George Floyd, 46, who was killed after Minneapolis officer, Derek Chauvin, 44, knelt on his neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds during an arrest on May 25, have turned the fence into a memorial wall with placards and protest art.
Signs that read, 'I can't breathe', which were some of Floyd's final words before his death, were affixed up and down the fence.
A large sign reads 'Black Lives Matter' while others call for the defunding of police and an end to police brutality.
According to the National Park Service, the fence, which was placed in front of a White House protest area, was only meant to be temporary.
Park Service spokeswoman Katie Liming said Monday that her agency and the Secret Service expect to reopen part of Lafayette Park in front of the White House on Wednesday.
Liming says some areas of the park will remain closed to allow workers to deal with damage and address safety hazards.
She gave no details and no time for when the rest of the square would reopen.

A hotel owner has been accused of discrimination after an online disclaimer said guests weighing over 20 stone should not book.
Hotelier Angelika Hargesheimer reportedly advised guests hoping to stay at her Beachhotel Sahlenburg in the beachside town of Cuxhaven, Germany, that the “interior is not suitable for people with a bodyweight of more than 130 kilogrammes.”
However, she says the disclaimer is not discriminatory and came up after she was sued by an overweight guest whose bed collapsed while he was sleeping.
The guest sued her for damages with the case being settled out of court.
She further explained that other overweight guests had struggled to get into the showers or complained of being uncomfortable on the chairs in the breakfast area.
Adding to her reasons, she explained her fears that overweight guests will damage her “classic” furniture, adding that she wants to have a designer hotel so she did not want to need sturdy furniture.
In order to avoid further legal cases, she decided to put up the disclaimer.
Despite the public criticisms, anti-discrimination experts say the policy does not appear to violate any rules. The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency according to The Mirror said:
Only if an overweight person reaches the threshold of a disability does protection against discrimination exist. Therefore, it should be difficult for those affected to take legal action against provisions such as in the hotel you described, with reference to the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG).
In an argument against the anti-discrimination agency, a lecturer from the University of Bremen, Friedrich Schorb, said that while the hotel’s policy did not break regulations, it was humiliating and promoted the isolation of obese people.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state on Monday bowed to pressure and announced the sack of the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Tijani Aliyu.
The SSG’s sack may not be unconnected with the directive handed down to the governor last week demanding for the immediate sack of the SSG over alleged embezzlement of N1bn meant for the renovation and fencing of schools as commissioner of education during ex-Governor Tanko's administration.
It would be recalled that the state House of Assembly had, in March, constituted an investigative committee to probe the SSG which had indicted the former commissioner and recommended to the governor for his immediate removal from the office as SSG.
The governor in a letter signed by the permanent secretary, Government House Administration directed the SSG to hand over all government properties in his possession to the permanent Secretary Cabinet office of the SSG immediately.
The governor who thanked the SSG for his services to his administration and support whished him well in his future endeavours.
It would be recalled that Governor Sule has been under pressure to sack Tijani Aliyu over his involvement in the misappropriation of the state government N1bn meant for renovation of Schools projects during his reign as the commissioner of education in the Tanko Almakura administration.
The state House of Assembly had the Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi gave the order in Lafia after the house deliberation on the report of the committee investigating the alleged N1 billion released in 2018 for the renovation /fencing of Secondary schools in the state.
The house ordered the governor to sack the SSG following a motion moved by Hon Mohammed Alkali (APC Lafia North) and seconded by Hon Ibrahim Muluku (APC Nasarawa Eggon East).
According to the Speaker, the former Commissioner displayed inefficiency, incompetency and ineffectiveness in the performance of his official duties.
“Based on the resolution of the House, Gov. Abdullahi Sule is hereby directed to immediately sack the SSG, Alhaji Aliyu Ahmed Tijani to save the government the embarrassment. I will request the clerk to communicate the House’s resolution to Gov Abdullahi Sule for his immediate action,” the speaker declared.
