More Trouble In Aso Rock Over Withdrawal Of Aisha Buhari's Security

There is disquiet in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following the withdrawal of security aides attached to the president’s wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari. The withdrawal of police officers attached to the office of the First Lady, including her Aide-De-Camp (ADC), Usman Shugaba, and Escort Commander, came after the Special Assistant to the President, Sabiu Tunde Yusuf, a nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, was asked by Mrs. Buhari to respect the COVID-19 guidelines, following his alleged refusal to go on self-isolation after returning from Lagos.

The first lady’s encounter with the president’s nephew reportedly in the company of her children was said to have gone out of hand after the involvement of security personnel who shot into the air thrice.

It was learned that the gunshots at the State House happened at the point when Sabiu, who is popularly known as Tunde, a name he was given after Tunde Idiagbon, the second in command to then Major General Muhammadu Buhari during the military regime, was making efforts to leave after the altercation with the first family.

A source told Daily Trust that, “On Thursday, when the first lady heard that he was still coming to work, she asked him to self-isolate but he told her that the president said he didn’t have to. Her insistence led to a heated verbal exchange between them and which the president was informed about. The president, however, took sides with Tunde and didn’t see any reason why he should self-isolate.

“He said Zahra and Halima (his daughters) left the villa to visit their in-laws when Halima’s husband’s uncle died recently and they didn’t self-isolate on their return. He also pointed to the fact that when his new Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, went to Lagos, he didn’t self-isolate on his return, so he didn’t see any reason why Tunde should. So, he overruled her.”

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, who visited the Presidential Villa Friday morning, was said to have ordered the arrest and detention of the police officers attached to the office of the first lady. Hajiya Buhari, unhappy with the move by the police authorities, called on the Inspector General of Police via her Twitter handle, to free her ADC and other police aides taken into custody.

The first lady in her verified Twitter handle @aishambuhari, wrote: “That COVID-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all relevant government agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials.

“Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to undergo a 14-day mandatory isolation no matter who the person is, no one should be above the law and the police command will do well to remember that. “Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned staff who are still in the custody of the police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to COVID-19 while in their custody.”

Daily Trust gathered from sources that the security aides are yet to be released.

OPM Builds 15th Free School In Rivers State

Amidst covid-19 challenges, OPM opens another free school. The story behind this particular free school is captivating.

OPM rescued two kids who witnessed their parents die and remained in the same house with corpse for more than a month before locals discovered them and contacted the police who contacted OPM.

OPM rescued the kids, who now live with Apostle Chibuzor in his house, and have been enrolled into school.

On one of the visits to the community, Apostle Chibuzor learnt the community had no school. He then promised to open a free school there.

True to his words, he just commissioned one in the community. This is quite commendable.

Kidnappers of immigration officer and his children insist on N7.5m ransom

The kidnappers of an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Adamu Suleiman, and his two children, Abdullahi and Balkisu, have insisted on collecting N7.5 million before they will be set free.

The NIS officer and his children were abducted last Thursday from his residence at Nahari community in Abaji Area Council.

A member of the family disclosed this, saying the kidnappers had vowed to keep the officer and the children in captivity till the ransom was paid to them.

He said the family had been bargaining with the kidnappers since last week to accept N2m, but that they (kidnappers) were bent on collecting N7.5m.

He further said the family members were devastated by the development as it was difficult for them to raise that amount of money. According to him, the kidnappers had earlier demanded N35m, which he said they later pushed to N7.5m.

“Honestly, the entire family members are now in a state of confusion because the ransom they are demanding cannot be raised except if the family sells the house,” he lamented.

He said the mother of the children has not been eating because of worry over the condition of her children in the hands of the kidnappers.

“The family is appealing to state actors to rise up to their responsibility of protecting the lives of citizens. For the sake of the two children, the government should act quickly to save them,” he added.

Family urges FG to recognize Abiola as ex-president

The Abiola family in Abeokuta, Ogun State yesterday demanded an official recognition of late Chief M.K.O Abiola as a former president of Nigeria.

The head of the family, Chief Olanrewaju Abiola, made the demand on President Muhammadu Buhari at the family house in Abeokuta.

The late M.K.O Abiola was believed to have won the June 12, 1993 presidential elections.

Abiola said the recognition had become necessary for Nigerian leaders to rule in peace.

He commended Buhari for conferring a posthumus highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on late Abiola and recognising June 12 as Nigeria’s authentic Democracy Day.

He urged the president to actualise the mandate that Nigerians gave to his late junior brother, Moshood, on June 12, 1993, by conferring an official status of an ex-president of the nation on him.

Abiola also demanded that all the entitlements that should have accrued to his late brother from 1993 to date should be fully paid to the family. He called on Buhari to liaise with the National Assembly to debate the issue and subsequently pass it as a law.

“On June 12, last year when I spoke with the president, he said he had given him the honour, but we want it in black and white. Let the members of the National Assembly debate it and pass it into law.

“Moshood was the bread winner of the family and since his death, the family members have been suffering,” he said.

Injured man walks into hospital with arrow sticking out of his chest [photos]

A bungling man has been filmed casually waiting to be seen at a hospital with a crossbow arrow lodged in his chest.

The hapless patient, identified as 21-year-old Mr Peng, had accidentally shot himself while loading his crossbow.

Incredibly, the bolt missed his heart by just 0.2 inches.

Footage shows Mr Peng waiting at the accident and emergency department of Guangxi People’s Hospital in Nanning, south China.

He appears remarkably calm as the bolt protrudes from his body. Two men flank him on either side to give him support.

The young man was driven to the hospital shortly after shooting the 15-inch plastic bolt into the left side of his chest on June 6.

Mr Peng underwent a successful one-hour surgery to have the bolt removed, a doctor at the hospital confirmed.

Doctor Luo said: “When Mr Peng arrived, the bolt was about 1 centimetre from his heart muscle.

“We spent an hour operating on him, removing a section of damaged lung tissue, patching it up and stopping the bleeding.

“His surgery went very well. He has since regained consciousness and is in good spirits. He can speak and eat without issue.

“He will be discharged in the coming days. As he’s young and healthy, I expect him to make a full recovery.”

He had purchased the crossbow online for £90 in order to hunt with it, but his mum and dad have since thrown the dangerous toy out.

Commissioner of Police confirms Hushpuppi's arrest

Plans are underway by the International Police (INTERPOL) Nigeria to extradite Instagram celebrity Raymond Igbalodely a.k.a. Hushpuppi from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nigeria to face alleged multiple fraud charges, The Nation reports.

This is against Kemi Olunloyo's claims that Hushpuppi and others arrested with him were already extradited to the US.

The INTERPOL is also on the trail of other accomplices in the alleged fraud who are resident in Nigeria to bring them to justice.

Commissioner of Police (CP) INTERPOL, Garba Umar disclosed these to The Nation yesterday while confirming the arrest of Igbalodely whose real name is said to be Ramoni Igbalode.

He said: “It is true that Hushpuppi was arrested by the INTERPOL. We are currently working on bringing him to Nigeria to face charges of fraud.

“Some of the offences were committed here in Nigeria and he has to answer for them. He is not alone in it; there are accomplices in the country who we are currently on their trail,” said the CP.

Hushpuppi, known for his display of wealth on social media, was arrested days ago for allegedly hacking into the United States (US) unemployed database and impersonating citizens qualified for unemployment funds.

He and his accomplices in Nigeria, Dubai and other countries allegedly defrauded the US of over $100 million meant for Native Americans in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

His arrest came days after he posted a picture of his newly acquired 2020 Rolls Royce Cullinan worth about N280 million, the latest addition to his fleet of exotic vehicles.

Black business owner claims his white landlord is evicting him for joining Black Lives Matter protest

A black business owner claims his white landlord evicted him from an office space because he was peacefully protesting at a Black Lives Matter demonstration.

Jeremiah Johnson, Exodus Bargblor, Xaví Fonceca and Edward Idehen run co-owned fashion brand Stylent from a rented office near Des Moines, Iowa.

The landlord allegedly told the company to relocate after he saw a video of two of the owners peacefully protesting.

In the clip, one of the owners is heard telling the landlord: 'You never thought anyone would step up and finally fight back to what was happening in this country.'

An onlooker states: 'Either way, that doesn't have anything to do with you leasing this place.'

The co-owner adds: 'You're being mad at me for other people. I was protesting the right way. Why get mad at me then?

'You say you're not ok with the riots, and also you're not ok with me peacefully protesting?'

The landlord replies: 'I'll just tell you flat out. If there's something illegally going on at a place that I'm at, I don't want to be a part of it. I'm personally going to leave.'

The business owner goes on to explain that 'there's two different groups' at the demonstrations, one peaceful and one who engaged in rioting.

The landlord goes on to say that he thinks it is 'poor judgement to be at a place where something illegally is going on'.

He said if 'it [illegal activity] happens, I leave, I'm out of there. I don't want my face associated with something that's going on'.

The owner again tries to explain that he was not with 'the guys out there doing' the looting and rioting.

While it is unclear where they were protesting, Iowa has faced a over a week of largely-peaceful demonstrations sparked by the death of unarmed black man George Floyd.

Moment tourists got terrified as elephants charge at their car

Tourists were left terrified as two wild elephants charged at their jeep on a safari in Sri Lanka.

The incident happened at the Minneriya National Park in North Central Province on June 4.

A group of safari-goers were travelling through the park when they noticed a herd of wild elephants in the distance, reports say.

Without warning, two of the elephants leave the herd and suddenly charge at the 4x4 through the twilight, causing panic amongst its passengers.

The bumpy video shows the pair charging at the jeep while a passenger records the whole incident from the vehicle.

A woman’s scream can be heard on the clip, before nervous laughter from others as it becomes clear the wild animals are backing off.

It is not clear exactly what prompted the elephants to charge, but the herd could have been spooked by the safari vehicle.

Thankfully the jeep managed to evade the elephants by accelerating away faster than the elephants could run.

Presidency Won't Declare Another Lockdown For COVID19

The Federal Government has explained why it may not re-introduce a total lockdown of the country over the COVID-19 rising cases.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, said this on Thursday in Abuja at the 42nd joint national briefing of the taskforce.

“As we had indicated in my first address on this subject that we will study the situation, look at it and see how we are going and if there is need for a review, that review will be advised by data, by science, by experiences of other jurisdictions and by the peculiarities of our environment.

“To go back to a total lockdown must be taken in the context of what we desire to achieve, after we’ve lockdown for about five weeks and seen how we fared.

So the issue of review might not have that in contemplation because you can’t move forward and begin to move backwards again,” Mustapha said.

He said that in terms of the strategic implementation of the policies, government might not be looking towards that direction.

Woman Sacked By Lagos Hotel For Reporting Attempted R*pe By Indian Boss

Some workers of Atlantic Hotels have accused the management of sacking a female worker, Grace (Not real name), after she was s*xually harassed by one Sanjiv Raut, a cooking staff and an Indian national.

The hotel, which is situated at number 4, Adeleke Adedoyin Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, is owned and managed by Indians.

SR gathered that Raut had gone into the lady’s room while she was sleeping and attempted to r*pe her but was overpowered by her.

It was gathered that Grace pushed him to the wall, gave him a slap and ran out of the room.

She later reported the case on the hotel’s WhatsApp group but instead of Raut being punished, she, the victim, was sacked the next day.

The workers also said another staff (name withheld) was s*xually harassed by the same Indian national.

“The lady was recently harassed by Sanjiv Raut inside the hotel’s kitchen this week.

“As the lady was about entering the kitchen, Raut started calling her sweet names, so she responded and asked if he wanted some chocolate she was eating but he declined.

“As she turned to leave the kitchen, Raut smacked her buttocks with his hand in the presence of other staff and started laughing.

“He has from time to time harassed other Nigerian female staff at the hotel and some even get sacked for speaking up.

“This particular lady has been crying for the humiliation because if she reports to the management they will sack her instead of punishing the Indian.

"We are all tired of this s*xual harassment by this Indian on daily basis,” one staff of the hotel told SaharaReporters.

Raut declined to comment on the allegations against him when contacted by SR while the hotel’s management could not be reached for reactions as at the time of this report.

“Some of the offences were committed here in Nigeria and he has to answer for them. He is not alone in it; there are accomplices in the country who we are currently on their trail,” said the CP.

Hushpuppi, known for his reckless display of wealth on social media, was arrested three days ago for allegedly hacking into the United States (US) unemployed database and impersonating citizens qualified for unemployment funds.

He and his accomplices in Nigeria, Dubai and other countries allegedly defrauded the US of over $100 million meant for Native Americans in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Obaseki: PDP Agrees To Make Him Candidate

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki is said to be heading for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his disqualification from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary in the state.

A top member of Obaseki’s faction of the APC in Edo State, disclosed that the governor is weighing all the options available to him in the actualisation of his second term ambition and will announce his next line of action in a few days.

According to the source, there have been pressure on the governor to dump the ruling party owing to the face-off between him and his predecessor and National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

He stated that Obaseki had said he would remain in the APC and fight to the end as regards his aspiration to contest for a second term on the platform of the party.

The party chief, however, said following the disqualification of Obaseki by the APC screening committee for the Edo gubernatorial primary, it is obvious that the governor has reached the end of the road in the ruling party and may be joining the PDP in the next couple of days.

Before now, the Edo governor had commenced negotiation with leaders of the PDP over the possibility of flying the party's flag in the September 19, governorship poll.

He explained that the talk broke down over who will be Obaseki’s running mate, should the PDP cede its governorship ticket to him. The source explained that why the governor insisted on retaining his deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, the leaders of the PDP, on the other hand, wants the Edo deputy governor dropped from the ticket.

“The main issue was the issue of deputy governorship candidate. They (PDP leaders) said they will give him a deputy and he (Obaseki) will drop his current deputy. The governor’s constraint has been dropping Shaibu, who is very loyal to him. However, events will unfold soon. Let’s say between now and next week, we will know where we are. The pressures have been on him to go to PDP, but he said he will fight the battle to the end,” the source said.

Nevertheless, he said with the turn of events, the negotiation between the governor and the opposition party is likely to resume, expressing hopes that the grey areas will be resolved.

The PDP has said that their party, as the main opposition party in Nigeria, is open to receiving any Nigerian, who is qualified into its fold.

Aisha Buhari Talks Tough Over Arrest Of Her Security

Nigeria's First lady, Aisha Buhari has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to release her assigned staff, citing COVID-19 fears.

Mrs Buhari is currently embroiled in a battle with certain forces in Aso-rock leading to the detention of her personal security staff.

President Buhari’s Personal Assistant and Private Secretary, Sabiu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf is currently at loggerheads with the first lady after she denied him entry into Aso-rock. She reportedly ordered that Tunde should go on mandatory 2-week self-isolation as he recently returned from a trip to Lagos.

Yusuf who is reportedly one of the most influential people around President Buhari flatly refused and pushed his way into the Villa.

Worried that his presence could expose them to danger, the first family intervened in the matter on Thursday but things quickly spiralled out of control after the security attached to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, moved in and had Yusuf removed from the Presidential Villa. Miffed by this, Tunde had the First Lady's ADC, Usman Shugaba, Escort Commander and other policemen attached to the first family arrested and detained.

Confirming the report on Friday night, Mrs Buhari took to Twitter to call on the IG of Police to release the security men. She tweeted;

"That Covid-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all relevant Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines.

"Especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials. Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to undergo 14 days mandatory isolation no matter who the person is, no one should be above the law and the Police command.

"Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned Staff who are still in the custody of the Police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to Covid-19 while in their custody."

COVID-19: Infected mothers can breastfeed – WHO

New mothers infected with COVID-19 should generally continue breastfeeding and should not be separated from their babies, the World Health Organization said on Friday, stressing that the benefits outweighed the risks.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual press conference that the UN health agency had thoroughly investigated the risks of women transmitting the new coronavirus to their babies when breastfeeding.

“We know that children are at relatively low-risk of COVID-19, but are at high risk of numerous other diseases and conditions that breastfeeding prevents,” he said.

“Based on the available evidence, WHO’s advice is that the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh any potential risks of transmission of COVID-19,” he added.

Anshu Banerjee, the WHO’s senior advisor for reproductive health and research, told the briefing that, so far, the live virus that causes COVID-19 had not been found in breast milk.

“Mothers with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be encouraged to initiate and continue breastfeeding and not be separated from their infants unless the mother is too unwell,” Tedros said.

Ronaldo misses penalty as Juventus reach Coppa Italia final

Juventus reached the Italian Cup final on Friday after a goalless draw with 10-man AC Milan in the semi-final, the second leg in Turin on the day football returned to Italy after three months away.

Serie A champions Juve advanced on away goals to Wednesday’s final in Rome thanks to February’s 1-1 first-leg draw at the San Siro, despite an under-par display against a Milan side who played 74 minutes with a man less and which featured a missed Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

At the capital’s Stadio Olimpico, Maurizio Sarri’s side will face either Napoli or Inter Milan, the last side Juve faced before football entered into its coronavirus-enforced hiatus in March.

Napoli take on Antonio Conte’s Inter at Naples’ Stadio San Paolo on Saturday with a 1-0 lead from the first leg, in another match set for an eery atmosphere without supporters.

“It was odd and difficult at the start, playing in an empty stadium after 90 days away,” said Leonardo Bonucci to public broadcaster RAI 1.

“We’ve shaken off a dark moment for the whole world. I hope being back will offer the fans at home a bit of hope and joy. We want to give them something more on Wednesday.”

A feisty start belied the two teams’ long absence from the pitch, with Juve — missing the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Gonzalo Higuain — roaring out of the blocks and Milan putting in some questionable challenges to try to stop themselves from being overrun.

Juve should have been ahead in with just 15 minutes on the clock when Andrea Conti clipped the ball in the penalty area with his elbow and conceded a penalty after a VAR check.

Ronaldo hit the woodwork with the resulting spot-kick, but while that should have been a reprieve for the away side, they found themselves a man down seconds later when Ante Rebic kicked Daniloin the head.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out injured and Samu Castillejo suspended, Stefano Pioli’s side were missing some firepower going forward, but managed to create problems for Juve despite spending most of the match on the back foot.

Hakan Calhanoglu had Milan’s best chance two minutes after the restart, flashing a free header wide, while Simon Kjaer should have done better with another header 10 minutes from the end.

However, Juve also had their chances, with Milan stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma doing well to keep out Blaise Matuidi’s thumping close-range effort on the half-hour mark, and two great efforts from Paulo Dybala and Alex Sandro late in the second half.

– Virus dead tribute -The match was played on the day Italy would have kicked off Euro 2020 in Rome had the tournament not been postponed for a year.

More than 34,000 people on the peninsula have died because of the coronavirus with the vast majority in northern regions like Piedmont and Lombardy which host Juve and Milan.

Both teams held a minute’s silence before kick-off for those who lost their lives to the virus before breaking out into applause for healthcare workers, three of whom were stood in the centre circle.

Juventus players warmed up before the match in T-shirts with the message “No Racism”, while Milan wore tops on with “Black Lives Matter” written on them, in solidarity with global protests over the death of George Floyd.

The few fans hanging around the Allianz Stadium told AFP that they were happy to see football come back as the country edges towards normality.

However, they were sad that matches had to take place without the passionate support that accompanies most matches in Italy.

“It’s hard for a team not to be able to count on the presence of the cheering fans,” said Massimiliano Balduzzi, 47, from Bergamo, one of the country’s worst-hit areas.

“I believe that there should always be cheering at the stadium. Unfortunately, with what happened, we can only keep on waiting and hope that everything will go well.”

Man finds out his wife is a man two days after wedding

The story of an Indonesian man Muh who “divorced” his wife two days after their wedding after finding out she is a man has gone viral.

It is gathered Muh met his wife Mita on Facebook about a month ago and they began dating online.

The two later met in real life and went out for coffee and an unsuspecting Muh fell in love with Mita whom he described as “beautiful and graceful.”

After weeks of dating, he proposed to her and she accepted immediately.

The 31-year-old then told his family about his plans to marry Mita. His parents visited Mita’s house to deliver the dowry, as is customary. The 20 million rupiah ($1,430) offered by his family was considered a considerable dowry.

The couple married at the Office of Religious Affairs in Kediri District, Indonesia’s Central Java on June 2nd.

Even though the 25-year-old had most of her face covered on the big day, no one thought she looked suspicious, as her face cover was traditional for a bride. Their wedding was attended by religious leaders from around the region, none of which had any suspicions about the bride’s gender.

Muh didn’t suspect a thing when he was turned down by his bride on their wedding night when he tried to consummate their marriage.

However, his suspicions began to rise when the same thing happened on his next attempt.

After the third night passed without any “action”, Muh started doing some investigation, asking around about his wife, and was shocked to learn that Mita was actually a man.

It remains unclear how Mita found out her deception had been found out by her new husband but when Muh came home to confront her, she had already left.

Enraged, Muh told his family the truth and immediately divorced his “wife”.

Feeling cheated by the person he had thought his soul mate, he also notified the police about Mita’s deception and accused her of being a fraud.

Police quickly found and arrested the 25-year-old, who turned out to be a man named Adi. It’s unclear if he will have to face charges, or what punishment he stands to receive.

Muh and Mita’s marriage broke the record for the shortest union ever recorded in Indonesia’s West Lombok region.

This is not the first time something like this is happening. In January,  there was asimilar case which involved an Ugandan holy man who found out his wife was a man after two weeks of marriage.
