Flight Resumption In Nigeria: New Guidelines For Passengers

Anytime from June 21, flight operations within Nigeria could resume. Ahead of the resumption of commercial flights, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said passengers must arrive at airports at least three hours before flight time.

The Authority made this known on Monday as part of the new protocol for the restart of flights amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing via Twitter, it said the early arrival by travellers would enable efficient checks and screening before boarding.

“COVID-19 Flight Resumption Protocol for Passengers: You are advised to arrive at the airport three hours before your flight due to the new COVID-19 safety checks,” it wrote.

FAAN also urged travellers to maintain two metres distance from each other at the airports while noting that persons not wearing their face masks will not be allowed into airports’ premises.

The Federal Government had said civil aviation authorities will determine the resumption of domestic flightsin the country.

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, stated this during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

Aliyu had on June 1 said that “the aviation industry is requested to start developing protocols to allow for domestic flights to resume anytime from the 21st of June onwards.”

However, while giving an update on Thursday, he said the PTF was yet to receive any update from the aviation sector on its preparedness to restart commercial flight operations.

Recall that Nigeria’s airports and airspace were shut in March by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President’s directive however allowed the operation of essential flights including those for medical and evacuation purposes, amongst others.

COVID19 Spike Looms As Many Nigerians Ignore Safety Protocols

Health is wealth. Medical experts have warned that Nigeria could experience dire consequences in the rate of COVID-19 cases and deaths if people continued to violate protective measures against the disease.

They said it was worrisome that many people violated wearing of face masks, physical and social distancing, and hygiene measures such as hand washing and use of hand sanitisers among others across the country.

Dr. Ejike Orji, Chairman, Medical Sub-Committee, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee on COVID-19 said that there would be a spike in cases, and that the country would be in serious trouble if the violation continued. He said, “It is already happening. Abuja has been recording an average of 42 cases per day in the last two weeks.

“The isolation centres at the National Hospital, Abuja, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada and Asokoro District Hospitals are filled up. “If we continue this way, we are going to be in serious trouble.” He said a lot of people in Nigeria were asymptomatic to the disease because its population was largely youthful.

“70 % of our population is under the age of 30, that is also what is helping us. “The disease is serious in people who are older and have co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension.

“So young people can have it and feel nothing is wrong with them but be endangering their parents and older people around them.” Dr. Omo Izedomwen, a public health expert said the country was already experiencing community transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic and that the only way to break it currently was to adhere to safety measures and restrictions instituted by the government .

Izedomwen, who is also the Coordinator of the Abuja Centre of the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) warned that disregarding the public safety measures comes with a cost, which people could regret later, adding “We can make choices but unfortunately cannot decide the consequences of these choices. And the consequences are very dire.”

He said the United States of America for instance had recorded over 100, 000 deaths already, saying these were people who once laughed and spent time with their loved ones.

Dr. Audu Onyemocho, an epidemiologist and an associate Professor of Community Medicine said the poor level of compliance by the public does not augur well for curbing the spread of the disease.

“The public should note that everyone is susceptible to COVID-19. “It doesn’t show on the face, so the only way is to protect yourself and people around you,” he said.

As of yesterday, Nigeria had recorded 15, 682 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of the number, 5, 101 cases have been discharged and 407 deaths recorded.

Findings by Daily Trust revealed that doubts about the existence of COVID-19 was still widespread among Nigerians in spite of the increasing number of cases. This is happening three months after the country recorded its first case of the disease.

It was gathered that some of those who initially believed in the outbreak of the disease have grown complacent and abandoned hygiene measures to protect themselves.

Dangote, Police Restrained From Interfering With BUA Cement Mining Sites

A Federal High Court in Benin City has restrained Dangote Industries and the Nigerian Police Force from interfering with BUA Group’s operations of the disputed Okpella mining sites in Okpella, Edo State in a judgement it delivered recently.

A statement by the management of the company on Sunday recalled that BUA was legally operating on its mining sites before operations at three of those mines were abruptly disrupted by the Inspector General of Police and the Edo state Commissioner of Police on the order of Dangote Industries & Dangote Cement Plc in 2017.

According to the statement, the court ordered the Inspector General of Police as 1st Respondent, Commissioner of Police, Edo State as 2nd Respondent, Dangote Industries, 3rd Respondent and Dangote Cement Plc as 4th Respondent to steer clear of the mining sites or interfering in any manner whatsoever with BUA's operation of disputed mining lease sites.

The statement reads: “BUA wishes to inform its shareholders, employees, customers, regulators, host communities, security agencies and the general public that the Federal High Court, Benin, in a recent judgement, has made an order which upholds BUA’s fundamental right to peaceful possession of the mining sites in Obu, Okpella, Edo State (operated by BUA Cement and which BUA became seised by virtue of mining leases granted by the Federal Government of Nigeria), without unlawful interference from the Inspector General of Police, 1st Respondent; Commissioner of Police, Edo State, 2nd Respondent; Dangote Industries, 3rd Respondent; and Dangote Cement Plc, 4th Respondent.

“It would be recalled that BUA was legally operating its various mining sites in Obu-Okpella, Edo State before the above named respondents abruptly disrupted our operations at three of those mines in 2017 during the pendency of two other matters. The 1st and 2nd Respondents at the behest of the 3rd and 4th Respondents invaded and shut down the operations.

We then approached the courts to enforce our fundamental rights to the property of the mines as well as our rights to continue operating from those mines. Whilst we were awaiting judgement, we continued to sustain our operations from our other numerous mines in that area unaffected by these actions."

The statement further explained that: “After a prolonged trial, which commenced in 2017, the court not only found that we have always been in possession of the mining sites but clearly found that the 1st and 2nd respondents were used and allowed themselves to be used by the 3rd and 4th respondents to invade, and disrupt our operations in the affected and disputed mine sites during the pendency of two other matters between us and the 3rd and 4th respondents.

"The court accordingly granted an order restraining the first 1st and 2nd respondents (The Police) as well as the 3rd and 4th respondents (Dangote Industries & Dangote Cement Plc) from interfering in any manner whatsoever with BUA's operation of disputed mining lease sites. The two other matters remain pending in court.

“This judgement is one major step towards the final vindication of our rights over the mining sites and in line with BUA's position that it holds the legal mining leases to the disputed sites, and that all parties in this dispute allow the courts be the final arbiter as has been our mantra, “LET THE COURTS DECIDE”.

“We, therefore, wish to thank the Judiciary for standing firm on the side of justice in the discharge of its duties as well as the commitment of all parties in submitting wholeheartedly to the judicial process.

“BUA has now resumed operations at the Obu-Okpella mines as ordered by the court," it concluded.

An eye witness, one Dakok, told NAN that armed robbers came in a commando-style and began shooting in the air to scare people around as they headed straight to the PoS shop belonging to Mr. Ifeanyi Ide.

He said that when the distress call came to his office, he immediately mobilised his men in Mangu town and headed to Panyam, but that “before we could arrive, the robbers had finished their operations and left”.

He also confirmed that the four persons shot had been taken to COCIN Rural Health Hospital, Panyam, for treatment.

This follows the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to the Government to meet their demands.

NARD President, Dr. Aliyu Sokomba who confirmed this to ait.live says the resident doctors however appreciate the efforts of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and other stakeholders for their sincerity in resolving the issues.

The NEC of NARD resolved that the doctors managing Covid -19 at the treatment centres in Nigeria are exempted from participating in the strike as demonstration of goodwill to Nigerians.

Shooting In Aso Rock: Aisha’s ADC, Escort Commander To Face Panel

The shooting at the Presidential Villa involving Usman Shugaba , the Aide-de -Camp to the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, and other security agents attached to her will top the agenda of the police management team meeting today (Monday).

The First Lady’s security aides would face a panel that would be set up by the leadership of the police.

It was also learnt the affected security aides would not be restored to the wife of the President following their involvement in an altercation with a personal assistant and nephew of the President, Sabiu Yusuf, also known as Tunde, last Thursday, at the Presidential Villa.

The trouble started on Thursday night, when the President’s wife and three of her children – Zahra, Halima and Yusuf – as well as some of her security aides, led by Shugaba, stormed the residence of Yusuf at House 8 by the Pilot Gate of the Presidential Villa.

They insisted that Yusuf, who had just returned from Lagos, should proceed on self -isolation for 14 days, to save the President and his family from the danger of COVID - 19.

Yusuf had visited his wife, who was recently delivered of a baby in Lagos.
The situation worsened when the First Lady’s ADC, in his attempt to apprehend Yusuf allegedly released some gunshots on the premises.

Following the gunshots, Yusuf ran away and took refuge in the nearby house of his uncle, Mamman Daura, also Buhari’s nephew.

The IGP, a report further stated, after receiving security report at the Presidential Villa, ordered the arrest of the ADC to the First Lady and other security aides, who accompanied her to Yusuf’s residence.

Besides the ADC, a chief superintendent of police, others arrested were the escort commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sheriff Kazeem, who is the son of ex -IG, Hafiz Ringim, and four riot policemen who were at the scene of the incident. The operatives are being held since Friday morning.

It was learnt on Sunday that the shooting incident would top the agenda at the weekly meeting of the police management team which would be presided over by the IG at the force headquarters, Abuja, today (Monday).

A source in the Presidency who confided in The Punch, said, “Shooting at the State House is not permitted under any guise. It is a serious security breach that should not have happened. And that is why the IG ordered the detention of the officers involved . The men will face a police panel and if found culpable, may be demoted and redeployed from the Presidential Villa.”

Explaining the incident further, the source stated,“ The ADC, Shugaba, fired gunshots in the air after Yusuf jumped a locked gate in a bid to escape. Yusuf narrated the incident to Daura who informed Mr President; the President was very furious and he complained to the IG.”

“The truth is that the officers can ’ t go back to the villa. If they did not lose their ranks, they would be redeployed to other formations; this kind of incident attracts demotion and serious reprimand,” an official noted.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, could not be reached for comments as he did not respond to calls. He had yet to reply an SMS as of the time of filing this report.

It was further gathered that Shugaba started working with the First Lady about three months ago.

Findings indicated that Shugaba was the Chief Security Officer to the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, before he was redeployed to the Villa as ADC to Aisha .

The Punch learnt that Shugaba had denied firing the shots, insisting that the shooting was done by a DSS official.

‘Tunde’s security aide, not first lady’s ADC, fired shot’
A top aide to the first lady, however, told The Punch that the gunshots that were fired last Thursday emanated from the gun of one of Yusuf’s security aides.

He said it was unfortunate that the police, acting under the instruction of Buhari’ s nephew, Mamman Daura, had decided to take sides with Yusuf (Tunde) and feed lies to the public.

The aide, who wished to remain anonymous said, “Madam (Aisha) never asked her aides to shoot Yusuf. It was Yusuf’s security men that were shooting into the air when madam’s ADC attempted to remove him from the Villa.

“If the police investigate thoroughly , they will discover that the bullets came from the gun of one of Yusuf’ s security aides. Unfortunately, the public is being fed with lies. The police IG is also bowing to pressure from Mamman Daura who is the brother to Tunde’s late mum.

“Also, Yusuf met with Maikanti Baru, the former GMD of NNPC that died of Covid- 19. Tunde’s wife is pregnant but it is not true that he went to visit his wife. He went to visit Baru and that is why we said he should self - isolate.”

Why First Lady has not been speaking –Aide
Meanwhile, Aisha’s Spokesman, Aliyu Abdullahi, has said the first lady ’s aides are still in police custody.

Abdullahi said this on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme on Sunday.

The spokesman, however, dodged several other questions, insisting that the President had already ordered an investigation into the matter.

He also said he was not sure if any of Tunde’s aides had been arrested.

When asked if the aides of the First Lady were still in the custody of the police, the spokesperson said, “In my opinion, I think they are still in the custody of the police . I know her ADC head, escort commander, police attached to her office are in the custody of the police.”

Let the law take its course , Buhari tells police
Meanwhile, the President on Sunday said the law should be allowed to take its course on the shooting incident involving the security aides attached to his wife, Aisha, inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday night.

Buhari, in a statement on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said where armed guards come short in the handling of weapons, their relevant agencies have their rules and regulations to address them.

Overruling his wife’s call for the release of the security details, the President insisted that the law should take its course.

Man pours kerosene on girlfriend then set her on fire [photos]

A former firebreather has been left scarred for life after her boyfriend set her on fire.

Danyeil Townzen, 42, from Dallas, Texas, US, suffered burns to 80% of her body, and miraculously survived.

In September 2019, Matthew Gerth, 34, was jailed for life after pleading guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Danyeil says: “Matthew is a cold-blooded monster who tried to take my life.

“I'm now sharing my story to encourage other women to leave their abusive partners.”

In September 2017, Danyeil met Matthew, a construction worker, when their bus broke down.

She says: “I was on my way to San Antonio to see some friends.

“After we all got kicked off the bus, I called my friend to pick me up.

“That’s when I got chatting to one of the passengers, Matthew.

“He was really handsome and we hit it off straight away.

“Once my friend arrived, we offered Matthew a lift.”

Over the next two weeks, the pair enjoyed a holiday romance and afterwards they began a long-distance relationship.

Danyeil says: “During the next few months I visited him from my home in Dallas twice a week.

“I was really happy.”

But a month later, on New Year’s Eve 2017, Matthew’s nice-guy persona disappeared and he became abusive.

Danyeil says: “I caught Matthew going through my phone.

“When I confronted him, he shouted at me for texting other men.

“Before I could explain they were just my friends, he punched me in the face.

“I was stunned.

“The next day, he was remorseful, so I decided to forgive him.”

Then, in May 2018, Matthew relocated to Dallas to live with Danyeil.

But two weeks later, Danyeil returned home from the shops and Matthew flew into a rage.

She says: “He accused me of being with another man and tried to attack me again.

“I ran out of the house and slept in my car that night.”

The next morning, Danyeil returned to her home to pick up her shopkeeper uniform for work.

She says: “I prayed Matthew was still asleep.

“But when I walked into the kitchen, he was there.

“He said ‘Glad you’re home’ with a menacing smile.

“Then, he grabbed a knife.

“Terrified, I grabbed a bottle of hot pepper sauce from the worktop and threw it in his face - hoping to blur his vision.

“But he launched at me and began repeatedly punching me in my face.

“I frantically grabbed my blowtorch I used for work as a firebreather and burnt Matthew’s arm with it.

“Then I managed to break free and ran outside, but I tripped over.

“Suddenly, Matthew appeared over me and poured liquid all over my body.

“I recognized the smell and realized it was kerosene that I also used for work.

“I was hysterical and begged him to stop.”

Matthew then used the blowtorch to light Danyeil on fire.

She says: “He said ‘You burn me bitch so I’m going to burn you’ before setting me alight.

“Then I felt my skin being peeled off.

“I was writhing in agony as Matthew laughed and kicked me.

“After that, everything went black.”

Thankfully, a neighbor had called the police and minutes later, fire officers attended, putting out the flames.

Meanwhile, Matthew had fled the scene.

Danyeil was airlifted to Parkland Hospital, where she was put into an induced coma.

Soon after, police found Matthew 240 miles away in Johnson City and he was arrested.

Five months later, in October 2018, Danyeil woke up.

She says: “I couldn’t believe I’d missed five months of my life.

“I saw birthday balloons around the room and realized I’d missed my 40th birthday.

“Doctors told me 80% of my body had been burnt, from my neck down.

“When I looked in the mirror, I burst into tears.

“I barely recognized myself.”

Lagos street sweepers protest unpaid wages

Some street sweepers and supervisors took to social media at the weekend to protest the non-payment of their salaries.

They urged the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to pay them the outstanding three months’ salary.

The sweepers appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to call LAWMA’s Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni to order.

“We have been working for three consecutive months without receiving salaries. We are hungry and also have families to cater for.

We are working without getting paid.

We ensure Lagos roads are always neat, but we are not appreciated,” one of the supervisors said in a video on social media.

He said the sweepers and supervisors worked from morning till 4pm daily.

The supervisor, who said, he is asthmatic, pleaded that he does not have money to buy drugs.

Another protester lamented that the sweepers have not been paid in the last three months.

The woman said despite her grey hair, LAWMA is denying them the opportunity to reap the fruit of their labour.

Some group of LAWMA supervisors, however, differed with the protesters over who owed them.

They said: “It is the contractors that are supposed to pay us, not LAWMA.”

The Acting Managing Director said the agency has begun an audit process to sanitise the system.

He said that the sweepers were directly engaged by the contractors of the agency, who were responsible for their monthly payments and upkeep.

Odumboni said that LAWMA had made April payments to the contractors for disbursement to their workers, adding that efforts are ongoing to ensure the prompt release of subsequent payments.

Muyideen Fadipe, who supervises Ebute Ero on Lagos Island, said he earns N50,000 monthly.

According to him, his salary was being paid by an agency headed by a woman called ‘Iron Lady’.

“I have 27 sweepers working with me. The sweepers are earning N30,000, while the supervisors are earning N50,000. March salary has been paid.

We were just being informed that the April salary has been paid. We went to ‘Iron Lady’ to collect ours, but she declined to pay us. LAWMA should help us order her to pay us,” he said.

Fadipe said the two months arrears were owed by the former LAWMA managing director.

“We have issues with the former LAWMA managing director. Since he was sacked, the salaries were delayed before the appointment of the new MD.

28-year old son of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar arrested for stabbing neighbor

The son of Basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was arrested in Orange County, California last week after allegedly stabbing a neighbor multiple times, it has been revealed.

Adam Abdul-Jabbar, 28, was arrested and booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on Wednesday and subsequently released, according to Orange County Jail booking information.

The victim was hospitalized 'with multiple non-life-threatening injuries,' a police spokesperson told TMZ.

On his booking slip, Adam Abdul-Jabbar is listed as a 6-foot-7, 180-pound Gamestop employee.

Police told TMZ that the officers responded to a call in San Clement on June 9 around 10pm local time.

'The suspect, who is the neighbor of the victim, was arrested without incident,' a police spokesperson told TMZ.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 73, has not issued a statement on the arrest.

It is not clear who Adam Abdul-Jabbar's mother is. Kareem has three children with his first wife, Janice, whom Abdul-Jabbar divorced in 1978, and another son with a woman named Cheryl Pistono. A 2015 Washington Post article simply states that the former UCLA star has a fifth child, presumably Adam, 'with another woman.'

Mayor sued for painting Black Lives Matter on the street leading to the White House because it shows 'racial favoritism'

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is being sued after commissioning a group of artists to paint 'Black Lives Matter' on a road that leads to the White House.

The activists claim that Bowser violated the First Amendment and is showing preference to 'the Black Lives Matter cult orthodoxy,' according to the lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

She is also accused of violating the Fourteenth Amendment because the banner allegedly conveys that black people are the favored race of the city.

In the complaint, the activists argue that renaming the street outside Lafayette Square, where President Trump had an ill-timed photo op, 'Black Lives Matter Plaza' is showing bias for one ethnicity and faith.

Named as plaintiffs are Rich Penkoski, a self-proclaimed DC street preacher; Chris Servier, a former Judge Advocate General; and Tex Christopher, a DC lobbyist.

In the lawsuit, Penkoski and his co-plaintiffs assert that the 'Black Lives Matter' sign is 'a legal weapon against non-observers of the Black Lives Matter religion.'

They suggest that Bowser take down the banner and that three other banners are painted in the city in their place.

First, they suggest a 'Blue Lives Matter' banner for law enforcement and, second, a 'Green Lives Matter' banner for National Guard units that were called by Trump to respond to protesters.

Lastly, they recommended an 'All Lives Matter' banner which is a 'secular' and 'self-evident message that is in the Declaration of Independence itself.'

The plaintiffs also took offense to a corner of Lafayette Square being renamed 'Black Lives Matter Plaza.'

They suggested the name being changed to something either secular or to rename another street 'Jesus is the answer Plaza.'

Penkoski and the other plaintiffs say they are seeking damages for 'mental anguish and emotional distress' as well as 'for the violation of their constitutional rights.'

However, a specific amount was not listed.

Pastor Adeboye and prayer warriors take rapists to God

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said he and his prayer warriors will not rest in prayers until perpetrators of r-pe are given stiffer penalty.

Adeboye spoke yesterday during a live programme on Dove TV.

The cleric noted that r-pe had become rampant in the society.

He described the act as bad and unbiblical, which could leave a permanent scare on a victim for the rest of her life.

According to him, there is no pain that can be compared to the pain on the parents whose daughter has been r-ped.

“My prayer warriors and I will not rest in prayers until the perpetrators of this evil are brought to justice, not only in Nigeria but all over the world.

“Everyone who has ever committed r-pe, particularly in Nigeria and other parts of the world, the all-knowing God will fish them out.

“As much as I hate death sentence, I think every form of punishment that will be given to a rapist cannot be considered too severe.

“Anyone who thinks of raping someone again, the Almighty God will stop them, even before they do so. And if they insist, God will take them away.

“I am calling on every Christian all over the world to please join me in this prayer,” he said.

Video shows looters taking $375,000 worth of designer handbags from a luxury store in New York

Looters who ransacked a shop in the Soho section of New York City on June 1 stole more than $375,000 worth of designer handbags from luxury brands like Hermes, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Balenciaga, a video now released by the New York Police Department shows.

The NYPD is asking the public for help in identifying the individuals who were seen walking out of the Rebag store on West Broadway at around 11.30pm on June 1.

Rebag was one of several Soho-based businesses that were destroyed and looted in the days following the police-involved killing of George Floyd.

The shop sells new and used designer handbags. It has nine locations in the United States, including four in New York, two in Florida, and three in California.

The surveillance video shows several people who broke in through the front door walking out with boxes and bags.

The night of June 1 saw widespread looting in New York.

The NYPD said 2,330 stores were burglarized amid protests that were part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

A ring of between 15 and 20 people targeted the city's Henry Cowit and grabbed an estimated $750,000 worth of fur goods.

The grab was captured on surveillance camera around 10:30pm and a large group was seen climbing over a security barrier once in store.

At a nearby Rite Aide pharmacy, opportunists also raided $60,000 worth of prescription medication.

Bronx man Julian Cepeda, 21, was charged with burglary after he was caught inside a Dolce and Gabbana store on Mercer Street wearing a $1,200 shirt and carrying a $435 pair of Chanel sunglasses.

Ashford Adedeji, 21, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property after police found him near Grand and Elizabeth Streets with 'red strappy women's Gucci shoes,' multiple Dolce and Gabbana sneakers, GStar sneakers, Beats headphones and two wrenches.

Victoria's Secret was also targeted. Keona James, 26, was caught with lingerie from inside a Midtown branch carrying lingerie.

Cops say that Kristina Williams, 20, punched an officer in the head at the Soho location when he was arresting her.

The looting prompted New York City authorities to introduce an 11pm curfew, which was maintained for several days afterward.

Looting was still reported, though the number of cases gradually decreased.

Gov. Sanwo-Olu pays condolence visit to Ighodalo’s family

Governor BabaJide SanwoOlu paid a condolence visit to Pastor Itua Ighodalo on the passing of his wife Ibidunni Ighodalo.

Ibidunni died on Sunday of apparent cardiac arrest in her hotel room in Port Harcourt, Rivers.

Woman diagnosed with painful vaginal condition which makes it impossible to have s.e.x

Climbing into bed with her boyfriend, Ailsa Galashan was excited about the prospect of solidifying their relationship.

But what should have been a night of passion turned out to be pure agony.

The marketing assistant, 24, was overcome with a crippling burning sensation which made s-x impossible.

At first, Ailsa thought she had a constant case of thrush until a period that lasted 37 days led her to discover she had another condition.

Doctors diagnosed Ailsa, from Aberdeen, Scotland, with vaginisimus and she is now sharing her story to raise awareness for the agonising condition.

Vaginismus is a rare condition which causes vagina suddenly tightens up as you try to insert something into it.

Ailsa said: "I always encourage people to seek medical help and to not be afraid to ask for a second opinion.

"I also try and share the message that this is nothing to be ashamed about."

Ailsa's ordeal first begun when she was a teenager - as she struggled to use tampons and felt like she had constant thrush.

“I believe I have had vaginismus since I was a teenager, but I wasn’t diagnosed with it until I started to go to therapy," Ailsa said.

“I struggled with the feeling of what I thought was constant thrush and burning pain, which gradually became worse and affected me all the time.

"I wasn’t able to use tampons or have sex without pain and this really impacted my mental health."

In September 2016, Ailsa met her boyfriend Sam, 29, and spent years struggling to have sex with him.

However, things took a turn for the worst in January 2017 when she began suffering from chronic vulvar pain.

And after seeing several doctors, she got a diagnosis in March 2019 stating she has vulvodynia, a persistent and unexplained pain in the female genital area.

“To be honest, I felt relieved [when I was diagnosed]", Ailsa said.

"For such a long time I felt like I was making it all up or that it was all just in my head.

“Having a diagnosis meant that my pain was real, and although it was scary to have a name for it, it meant that I was on my way to managing my pain better."

Ailsa began attending psychosexual therapy to help treat her condition.

She had struggled to use tampons for years and this treatment lead her to the diagnosis of vaginismus.

“For vaginismus, my treatments I have had have all been holistic,” she said.

“I have learnt some breathing techniques through therapy, and I am currently waiting for a referral to physiotherapy, where I will hopefully be prescribed dilators.

"These will help manipulate the muscles and prevent them from tightening.

“Currently, I go to psychosexual therapy and I also take amitriptyline for Vulvodynia, which is a low-dose anti-depressant that helps with chronic pain.

“This combination has really worked for me, and the medication has meant I’ve been able to tackle a lot more in my life without being in serious pain all the time.

"I do still experience flare-ups, but this has been super helpful."

“It [vaginismus] means I can’t have a ‘normal’ s-x life – but what is normal anyway?!," Ailsa said.

"In some ways, it’s meant that we have learned to communicate better with each other.

“Sam has come with me to several therapy appointments and as much as it means that it can be difficult for me to have s-x, since I started to take medication my pain has reduced.

“He was super supportive of me and never judged me.

"He also reassured me that he was happy to come to any appointments with me and support me through my pain management.

“He has always encouraged me to ask for a second opinion from doctors.

"When I told him I wanted to start sharing my experiences online he really encouraged me to do so and helped me to start documenting my journey on Instagram.”

Derek Chauvin may still get $1m police pension even if he's convicted for killing George Floyd

The former Minneapolis police officer who was seen pressing his knee into the neck of George Floyd for almost nine minutes before he died could receive more than $1million in pension benefits even if he is convicted in court.

Derek Chauvin, 44, faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for Floyd’s death.

He kept his knee on Floyd’s neck even as the 46-year-old black man begged him to let up so that he could breathe.

After Floyd’s death, Chauvin was fired by the Minneapolis Police Department. It took authorities four days to arrest and charge him amid intense pressure.

Even if Chauvin is convicted and sentenced to prison for Floyd’s death, he could still collect pension payments if he decided to apply for retirement benefits after the age of 50, according to CNN.

Some states do have pension forfeiture laws which allow for benefits to be denied to any public employee who is convicted of a serious crime. Minnesota, however, is not one of them.

Minnesota state law protects the pensions of public safety employees – even in cases of termination.

Chauvin could decide to forego his pension by requesting a refund of his employer contributions, which would be paid out in a lump sum.

But there is no legal mechanism by which Chauvin could have his pension denied, according to the Minnesota Public Employees Retirement Association.

‘Neither our Board nor our staff have the discretion to increase, decrease, deny or revoke benefits,’ a PERA spokeswoman told CNN.

Gay toyboy who inherited £150K from his dead 81-year old lover hits back at claims he's a gold digger

The Romanian toyboy accused of being a "leech" after inheriting £150k from his 81-year-old husband's will has insisted "I'm no gold digger".

Florin Marin, 27, hit back at the family of ex-vicar Philip Clements - who say he was just after money when he married a man 55 years his senior.

Philip died alone in a Romanian hospital, with Florin now getting a hefty life insurance payout and £10,000 to pay for his funeral.

His furious family dubbed his young husband a "gold digger", saying he "got what he always wanted".

But Florin told the Sun Online he "deserved" the money, adding: "I'm not a gold digger. Who doesn't like money?

"We can't live in this world if we don't have money, but doesn't mean you are a gold digger.

"It doesn't mean if you marry an older guy you are a gold digger. I was in love with Philip.

"Sometimes the people said 'age gap' and all this stuff, no. It doesn't matter.

"It was a very beautiful relationship because Philip was an amazing man who loved me and did everything for me.

"We had problems in the past but everyone has that. I will have a space in my heart for ever."

Philip's brother, retired Royal Mail driver Tony Clements, spoke to Florin for the first time on after the 27-year-old called him to let him know he had died.

The 71-year-old said: “He’s a gold digger. Jeremy Kyle said it to him when they went on his show and he said 'no, no’. But he is.

“Why would a chap his age be interested in an 81-year-old man?

“I don’t think Florin loved him.”

Philip and Florin had made headlines with their love affair when they met on Grindr five years ago - with the couple insisting the relationship was real.

They even appeared on the Jeremy Kyle show to declare their love despite Florin's clubbing ways.

But the relationship put a strain on Philip's family - with his brothers fearing elderly man, who was once a parish priest in Eastry, near Sandwich, was being taken advantage of by the model 55 years his junior.
