Ohaneze, IPOB reconcile as Kanu retracts threat

The apex Igbo socio cultural Organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo and the Nnamdi Kanu led-Indegineous People of Biafra (IPOB) have agreed to work harmoniously towards the interest of the Igbo.

The two groups which had been at loggerheads especially in the recent times, brokered peace at the instance of First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazuluike Amechi.

Addressing newsmen after the peace meeting at the elderstatesman’s house in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Amechi described as unnecessary any form of altercation between Ohaneze Ndigbo and IPOB.

He said both bodies were fighting for the welfare of Ndigbo.

Amechi, the only surviving member of the Zikist Movement, expressed joy over the withdrawal threat by Nnamdi Kanu of stoning Chief Nnia Nwodo as well as agreeing to work harmoniously with Ohaneze Ndigbo for the interest of the South East.

He also revealed part of the resolution from the meeting was the demand for de-proscription of IPOB which he described as illegal.

He urged Governors and State Houses of Assembly in the region to commence action towards lifting the ban.

He said: “I summoned the two bodies of Ohaneze Ndigbo and IPOB to express my displeasure with what I have been reading in the newspapers about Kanu giving orders for the stoning of Chief Nwodo by IPOB.

“I’m happy that even before this my peace meeting, Kanu has retracted the statement. We therefore appeal to Nwodo to accept the retraction and get it off his mind as IPOB has agreed to work with them.

“The two bodies realizing that it is the same battle they are fighting, marginalization, killings and denial of Federal Government to develop South East and Igbo land in general have agreed to work together for the welfare of Ndigbo.”

Representive of the IPOB, Aloy Ejimakor said he was at the meeting with the blessings and instructions of his clients, just as he thanked Amaechi who he said was not a stranger to what he was doing having been once declared a terrorist.

He confirmed the retraction of his client’s threats on the Ohaneze boss, describing it as one spoken at the heat of the moment.

While stressing the urgent need for regional security, he insisted that such would not be achievable without the de-proscription of the pro-Biafran body, saying “it has to participate as the muscle of building the security.”

He said: “There was a synergy between us and the Ohaneze. Nobody is leaving this place with acrimony. There’s peace in Igbo land. Anybody coming in to take advantage of some leadership crises in Igbo land is actually making a mistake.

“The Igbos are united and love themselves, otherwise, they couldn’t have sustained themselves for the 3-year civil war. Whoever saying anything contrary is sowing a seed of discord.

Speaking on behalf of Ohaneze Ndigbo, state President of the body, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, said the body endorsed all that were contained in the communique.

He said, “Those who thought our fences are fallen will know that the fences are much stronger than they thought.”

New EFCC Boss Opens Alleged Corruption File On Oshiomhole

One of the few top men in the EFCC that wasn't affected by the suspension of senior officials of the anti-corruption agency is the man who was asked to act in the place of the suspended Acting Chairman.

He is being routed as the new boss because no serving senior Police Officer is keen on taking over from Ibrahim Magu, as they see a clear pattern in which all previous chairmen of EFCC were disgraced out of office or unceremoniously sent packing.

The new boss is said to be moving very fast...

Adams Oshiomhole's alleged corruption file that has been lying fallow in the EFCC's office, has been opened by Umar the new acting EFCC boss. These are not the best of times for the deposed APC chairman who is currently still serving his suspension from the party at the state level.

According to Opera, having been relegated to a suspended party member within the APC, the resurfacing of Oshiomhole's corruption file in the EFCC could signal his possible arrest and subsequent prosecution, by the anti graft agency.

Recall that one Dr. Osadolor Ochei JP, a human rights activist and anti-corruption crusader based in Benin City, had since 2016 initiated a corruption case against Oshiomhole, through a petition to the EFCC.

In the petition, he alleged that Oshiomhole violated relevant sections of the constitution, when he built a sprawling city of mansions in his home town, Iyamho, estimated at over N10 billion, while in office as the state governor of Edo state, among other allegations. This case has been kept unattended to by the EFCC since 2016, until Magu, the ex-EFCC acting chairman for about 5years was suspended and is being currently under investigation.

Sources say Oshiomhole's file was reportedly found in Magu's house after a raid was carried out to search for evidence against him.

Two police officers in Brazil are suspended after one was seen standing on a black woman's neck

Two military police officers in Brazil have been suspended after one was seen standing on a black woman's neck.

The decision to investigate the cops was announced by São Paulo Governor João Doria after the 51-year-old victim suffered a broken neck during the scuffle with police.

In the video, a cop aims his gun at a man, who was seen taking off his t-shirt. The officer then approached the woman and pushed her back while she was standing next to his partner who was handcuffing a man.

The woman later appeared in the video lying face down on the ground with the police officer driving his boot into her neck. The other cop could be seen in the background dragging a second male individual, who was later arrested.

The incident took place May 30 in Parelheiros, the capital of São Paulo, according to Brazilian news outlet G1.

The woman, a widow and mother of five children, said she was attempting to play peacemaker between the police and her friend, who was being questioned after the cops responded to a noise complaint.

A struggle ensued between the two police officers and the man before he was placed under arrest.

'Then I asked the policeman not to hit him anymore because he was already passed out, lying on the floor,' the woman said.

She said of the moment she was lying on the ground: 'The more I struggled, the more he [cop] tightened the boot around my neck.'

She was treated at a local hospital for her leg injury and had several cuts that required 16 stitches.

New Wife Called Out For Maltreating Her Husband's Son

An NGO has accused a woman of maltreating her stepson only to end up pleading whenever they want to make her face the law.

The group, End Child Sexual Abuse in Nigeria, shared photos of the woman and warned her that the next time she abuses her stepson as she allegedly does, they will not listen to her pleas, neither will they consider her tears. They asked her to leave the marriage if she's not willing to love her husband's son.

They also put up the husband's phone number and asked people to let the woman know that she's being watched.

46-year old mother of two shocks TikTok with her youthful looks

A fresh-faced mother-of-two had TikTok users demanding to see her birth certificate after she revealed her age in a viral video.

Stylist Gail Murray-Gonzalez, of Long Island, New York, is 46 but admitted she is often mistaken for someone in their 20s 'or 30 at the most'.

In her TikTok video, which has been viewed 1.9million times, Gail said strangers struggle to believe she is old enough to have a husband of 23 years or to have two sons, aged 11 and 13.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Gail said she does have a skincare routine, including removing make-up before bed, but thinks the secret to her youthful appearance lies in her genes.

'I attribute my youthful appearance to my mom. She’s 71 but could pass for 60,' she explained. Gail also has a trendier style than many mothers and shares photos of her looks with her 76,000 Instagram followers.

'You could say that my personal style is more of a city chic, working woman,' she continued. 'I do not dress like your typical mom in sweatpants and t-shirts. I like to look put together at all times when I’m in public.'

Gail explained her appearance became more remarked upon when she entered her 40s because it is the decade many women notice dramatic signs of ageing.

She said: 'I think that it’s become more apparent once I turned 40 because many 40-year-olds begin to wrinkle and they start showing signs of age.

'I haven’t developed wrinkles and my face still has a youthful appearance so it’s difficult to guess my age. Many people think I’m 25 actually, 30 at the most.'

She continued: 'Today when I went to the store to pick up wine, the owner looked at my driver’s license and told me that he thought that I was 25.'

TikTok users shared their disbelief at Gail's age and took to the comments to jokingly demand she show her birth certificate.

One posted: 'If you told me you were 21 I wouldn't even question it.' Another wrote: 'My jaw is on the floor!'

A third added: 'Be proud you're ageing wonderfully. Old enough to know and still looking good.'

One fan added: 'I seriously thought you were my age... and I'm 22!'

Offering her advice to other women of her age on how to look stylish yet age appropriate, she added: 'I believe that there’s a thing as looking too young as a middle-aged mom. You can be stylish while keeping it tasteful.

'You will not see me out and about in booty shorts and skimpy tops. I want my kids to still respect me as a mom. There’s nothing wrong with wearing a midi dress and accessorizing it and still looking put together and stylish.'

VP Osinbajo Has Become A Political Target

Mr. Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, says his principal has become a political target because of the position he holds as the next man to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said Osinbajo boss is not thinking about any 2023 ambition but remained focus on supporting President Buhari in delivering the goals of his government.

Akande, who spoke on Monday night during an Instagram Live Chat with Dele Momodu of Ovation Magazine, said the vice president would not be distracted by ‘false’ reports and ‘lies’ circulating in the media of late.

According to him, people with despicable agendas are trying to smear the person of the vice president with ridiculous stories.

Recall that a blogger, Jackson Ude, had accused Osinbajo of collecting N4billion from the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, who is being probed by a Presidential panel.

Osinbajo, however, denied the allegations and asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to probe the United States-based blogger, with a view to prosecuting him for criminal defamation.

Ude also claimed the vice-president’s daughter, Kiki, owned a property on Durban Street, Wuse 2, Abuja which he said worth N800m but Kiki dismissed the claim as false while Ayuba Musa, the landlord of the property housing her GLAM’D Africa, also dismissed the claim as untrue.

Speaking on these claims and many more on Monday night, Akande said, “It is ridiculous and incredible some of the types of stories that are out there. What I have found out is that being the vice-president and being a very active vice-president that understands how to connect with the people, that rising profile itself, in a political atmosphere that is extremely murky, I think those who have all kinds of unscrupulous ideas, people with despicable agenda have reasons to try to smear the person that is holding that office.

“Like I said, because of the position that he holds, next to the President and because of all the kinds of imaginations that people have to think about him, I think, up to a point, he has become a kind of a political target.”

When asked whether the so-called attacks are to hack down any ambition the vice president has in 2023, the aide said, “Personally, I don’t have a doubt in my mind that there are people who have political objectives who might consider him (Osinbajo) a threat. But what I like to tell Nigerians is, I’m his spokesperson and all I know he wants to do is to do this job that he has been given very well and he doesn’t have any other plans right now about any such thing. I can tell you that clearly.

“He has said to me several times, see Laolu, this is not a monarchy, we are going to be here for four or at best eight years, let’s just focus and do the work so that when we are gone, people will say we did this and that. So, he is entirely consumed with the job. I’m his spokesperson and we have not talked about what he is going to do in 2023. What’s the point?”

The spokesperson noted that the objective of the ‘fake news’ is to cause confusion and distraction but Osinbajo would remain unfazed.

Complete Sweep: Buhari suspends EFCC secretary Olukoyede, 10 others

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended no fewer than 11 senior officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, as the probe of the shenanigans under the stewardship of disgraced Ibrahim Magu deepened.

Authoritative Presidency sources told P.M.News on Tuesday night that EFCC executive Secretary Olanipekun Olukoyede was among the senior officials suspended.

According to the source, ‘they were suspended for various alleged criminal and corrupt infractions”.

The suspension of the officials was also to allow for unfettered investigation of the commission.

“All the top officials in the agency have been suspended, their offices locked, to prevent any tampering with files at the commission”, the source added.

President Buhari suspended Ibrahim Magu, the former acting chairman of the agency last week and appointed the director of operations, Mohammed Umar Abba, to hold forte.

The source said Umar Abba survived the temporary purge, as he was found not to be a part of the suspected underhand dealings in the agency.

Olukoyede became the Secretary to the EFCC in November 2018 following confirmation by the Senate.

The Ikere-Ekiti born senior lawyer was a former chief of staff to Magu. He replaced Emmanuel Aremo, whose five-year tenure expired in July 2018.

The former acting chairman of the agency is facing for the second week, grilling by the presidential panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami, over financial allegations and improprieties, including money laundering.

He is facing tough questioning over allegations that he re-looted funds recovered by the commission. And that he accepted bribes to pervert cases of graft.

He is also accused of mismanagement of recovered assets by the EFCC.

Among the issues Magu is helping the panel to resolve are wide discrepancies in figures of recovered monies published by the agency.

The panel has also asked him to react to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit(NFIU) report accusing him of siphoning money from the EFCC.

NFIU report showed that a particular Bureau de Change, owned by Ahmed Ibrahim Shanono linked to the Acting Chairman based in Kaduna has more than 158 accounts and has been receiving huge sums of funds.

The report also accused Magu of laundering money through Pastor Emmanuel Omale of Hand of God Prophetic Ministry.

Omale was alleged to have bought a landed property on behalf of Magu worth N573 million in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“Another individual who is helping in laundering funds for the Acting Chairman and who has been referred to in several petitions is one Pastor Emmanuel Omale (Hand of God Prophetic Ministry).

“He is reported to have traveled to Dubai with Mr. Magu and his name was used in purchasing property in Dubai for Mr Magu.

“As an unknown pastor, the NFIU’s report showed huge movement of funds ranging from N573,228,040.41,’’ the report said.

Omale has denied laundering money for Magu.

Magu has also been accused of allegedly failing to give proper account of missing 332 out of the 836 recovered real estate property as of March, 2018.

Jonathan appointed ECOWAS special envoy for Mali

Nigeria’s immediate past President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, as a special envoy to lead the sub-regional body’s mediation mission in Mali.

This was made known in a statement issued by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze on Tuesday.

As a special envoy, the former President is expected to facilitate dialogue “with all principal stakeholders in Mali, including President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, opposition leaders, civil society as well as religious organisations, towards resolving the worsening socio-political situation in the West African country.”

Dr. Jonathan who is billed to depart for Bamako, the Malian capital on Wednesday was quoted as saying he would do his best to ensure that the mission achieves the desired result.

He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the support of the Nigerian government, including providing an aircraft and other logistics needed to make the assignment successful.

Former President Jonathan, who had led peace missions to many crisis-ridden nations in the past, is expected to deploy his enormous goodwill within the continent to facilitate the process of restoring peace in the troubled nation, the statement noted.

Mali has been hit by protests, fuelled by the outcome of parliamentary elections in March and April, perceived discontent over the government’s handling of the nation’s jihadist insurgency and worsening economic situation.

Jonathan’s appointment was communicated to him in a letter signed by Mr. Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, President of the ECOWAS Commission.

“Given your position as the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the great role and contributions your tenure offered to the maintenance of peace, security and stability in our region, I have the honour, in consultation with the Chair of the Authority, H.E. Issoufou Mahamadou, President of the Republic of Niger, to communicate to you, the decision to appoint you as ECOWAS Special Envoy for the sociopolitical crisis in Mali,” the letter reads in part.

Dr. Jonathan is to engage in consultations with all relevant stakeholders involved in the ongoing dispute in Mali to ensure that common ground is found in the search for peace.

Trump rescinds order denying foreign students visas

The United States government rescinded its controversial decision to revoke foreign student visas whose courses move online due to coronavirus, a federal judge said on Tuesday.

The universities of Harvard and MIT, with the support of a number of other institutions, had taken legal action against the move that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on July 6.

“The government has agreed to rescind” the decision as well as any implementation of the directive, Judge Allison Burroughs said in a brief hearing.

Harvard and MIT earlier this month had asked the court to block the order announced by ICE that students must leave the country if their classes are only online, or transfer to a school offering in-person tuition.

The measure was seen as a move by President Donald Trump administration to put pressure on educational institutions that are adopting a cautious approach to reopening amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The universities say in their lawsuit that the order would harm students “immensely,” both personally and financially.

There were more than one million international students in the US for the 2018-19 academic year, according to the Institute of International Education (IIE).

French police arrest most-wanted ‘darknet’ paedophile suspect

French prosecutors have said police had arrested a man suspected of operating paedophilia sites on secret “darknet” internet networks providing p3rnographic videos and pictures to thousands of people worldwide.

The 40-year-old arrested near the southwestern city of Bordeaux on July 7 was described by prosecutors as “one of the 10 most-wanted targets” of authorities fighting child s3x crimes around the globe.

Bordeaux prosecutor Frederique Porterie said the suspect also appeared to have taken “an active role in the production of child p3rnography pictures and videos.”

After being taken in for questioning, he was also charged with the incestuous r3pe of a minor as well as incestuous s3xual assault of a 15-year-old, Porterie said.

The suspect admitted the charges against him, she added.

French police and investigators from its specialised anti-violence agency worked alongside the EU’s Europol police agency.

The suspect posted the images on the so-called “darknet” of websites that can be accessed only with specific software or authorisations, ensuring anonymity for users.

Lawmaker advocates life or death sentence for killer herdsmen

The Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Muktar Dan-Dutse says the House of Representative is pushing for a stiffer law that will carry death penalty or life sentence against banditry and killer herdsmen.

Dan-Dutse made the call, while speaking with newsmen during the inauguration of the FCT chapter of the Maize Association and input distribution for the wet season farming by the CBN.

According to him, the attacks by bandits and killer herdsmen have affected farmers in some parts of the country.

He said there were existing laws that needed to be repelled or amended to ensure that the issues of stiffer penalties against banditry and killer herdsmen would be properly defined and captured.

“We are coming with a stiffer law that will ensure that anyone found guilty of banditry and criminality will get a life or death sentence, in fact there are existing laws but what is needed is to repel those laws and ensure issues of banditry is taken care of.”

He noted that with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive on banditry, there should be synergy and collaborations between stakeholders to ensure the efforts yielded faster results.

“The issue is now decisive, the president has given a presidential directive; we will work together, the civil societies, citizenry and also the affected the communities because if there is information sharing, the security agents will be more responsive.”

Chinese driver deliberately crashes bus into a reservoir killing 21 people in revenge against the Government when his home was marked for demolition

A bus driver in China drove a vehicle full of passengers off a bridge and into a reservoir in a deliberate act of revenge against society, police have said.

The divorced 52-year-old man, known by his surname Zhang, had downed a bottle of super-strength liquor before carrying out the act, according to an official statement on Sunday.

Twenty-one people - including the driver himself - died and 15 others were injured after the bus fatally crash last Tuesday in south-western Chinese city Anshun.

In a statement released on Sunday, Anshun police claimed that Mr Zhang had deliberately driven the bus into the lake to seek revenge over the government's decision to knock down his home.

Surveillance footage shows the bus carrying 36 passengers swerved into opposite traffic lanes before plunging off a busy road into the pond on July 7.

The deepest point of the reservoir is about 15 metres (50 feet) below the ground, an official told The Beijing News. The water where the bus plunged into is around 10 metres (33 feet) deep.

After nearly 10 hours of rescue, the local fire brigade found a total of 37 people in the wrecked bus, of whom 21 had been pronounced dead. Fifteen passengers were injured and one survived unhurt.

The 52-year-old bus driver 'was unhappy about his life and about the demolition of the public-owned house he rented,' the authorities said.

An image released by Sina News allegedly shows Mr Zhang in a social media video on Chinese TikTok-like Douyin.

On the morning of the incident, Zhang saw that the house was about to be demolished and rang a government hotline to complain, according to the police statement.

But police said Zhang had signed an agreement in June authorising the demolition and had been promised more than 72,000 yuan (£8,160) in compensation which he left unclaimed.

He is accused of deliberately 'conducting 'an extreme crime'', the notice said.

Police found that Mr Zhang had been drinking alcohol while passengers got on and off the bus, the statement said.

As he approached the reservoir, the bus driver suddenly veered across five lanes of traffic, through a guardrail and into the waters, police said.

Mr Zhang drowned and an autopsy found alcohol in his system.

The bus was said to be in perfect condition before the incident occurred.

A hashtag relating to the Anshun police statement had gained over 1 billion views on Weibo by Monday morning, with many comments condemning the driver.

'Why impose your own pain on so many families?' wrote one user.

Another said: 'No kinds of pain should be an excuse for one to murder people.'

Buhari Suspends EFCC Secretary Who's 'Close' To VP Osinbajo

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended no fewer than 11 senior officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, as the probe of the alleged shenanigans under the stewardship of suspended Ibrahim Magu deepened.

Presidency disclosed that EFCC executive Secretary Olanipekun Olukoyede, said to be close to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was among the senior officials suspended.

According to PM News, the source said ‘they were suspended for various alleged criminal and corrupt infractions”.

Sources close to Osinbajo said there is apprehension in his camp, as they believe he is now a target of political attack.
