Dubai Prince Pays Hospital Bills Of Stranded Nigerian Woman With Quadruplets

Nigerian Mother Stranded With Quadruplets
Dubai's Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid, has paid the hospital expenses of a Nigerian mother and her quadruplets stranded in the city with mounting medical bills, according to the hospital.

Suliyat Adulkareem, 29, gave birth to the babies, two boys, and two girls, at the Latifa Hospital for Women and Children on July 1.

They were born prematurely at nearly 31 weeks through an emergency C-section.

The babies were immediately placed on ventilators at the neonatal intensive care unit, the hospital said in a statement.

However, the family had no medical insurance and racked up more than AED 400,000 (about $108,000) in medical expenses since the quadruplets were born, their father Tijani Abdulkareem told CNN.

The Nigerian community and other nationals in Dubai rallied around them to help raise AED 42,000 (around $11,500) to pay part of the bills.

The Crown Prince stepped in to pay the bills after he came across the initial CNN report highlighting the family's story.
He was moved by their plight and informed his office to assist the family, the hospital said.

'A huge favor'
Abdulkareem told CNN he was shocked by the ruler's generosity, and the couple have decided to name two of their babies after him.
One of the girls will also be called Latifa after the hospital, he said.

"It's just a huge favor, and we are still in shock because we didn't even know how to get the money. I had been sleepless wondering how to pay the bill," Abdulkareem said.

Abdulkareem, a chef at a restaurant in the city, said he was distressed when he discovered his wife was going to have quadruplets.

Latifa hospital CEO Muna Tahlak said the hospital staff are "overwhelmed" that the country's ruler has pledged to cover the full medical bills of the quadruplets who are still being cared for at the health facility.

The babies, two boys and two girls, have gradually been taken off ventilators and two of them now weigh 1.8 kilograms. Doctors expect they will soon be strong enough to go home.

Nigerian Mother Stranded With Quadruplets
'Unbelievable support'
The couple, who live in Dubai, had planned to have the babies in Nigeria because they could not afford medical insurance but were unable to travel because of the coronavirus air restrictions that prevented commercial flights between the two countries.

Abdulkareem said his wife gave birth nearly two months earlier than her delivery date.

The elated father said the family has received "unbelievable" support from the Nigerian community, and various nationalities which has helped them pay for two months rent for a bigger place to accommodate the quadruplets.

"We have been getting calls from Portuguese and Brazilian nationals in Dubai. People have been trying to reach us. The Nigerian community has been following us every step of the way," Abdulkareem said.

British-Ghanaian rapper, Solo 45 is jailed for 24 years for holding four women against their will and raping them 21 times

A grime artist who held four women against their will and repeatedly r*ped them was today jailed for 24 years.

Andy Anokye, 33, who performed under the stage name Solo 45, was found guilty at Bristol Crown Court of 30 charges relating to a two-year period.

These were 21 r*pes, five counts of false imprisonment, two counts of assault by penetration and two of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The musician, who was part of the grime collective Boy Better Know, derived s.e.xual pleasure from torturing the women by water-boarding, interrogating, assaulting and r*ping them.

He claimed the acts were part of consensual role play, or a game he played called "Catch me, R*pe me", and said he told women he would "terrorise" them.

Police began investigating Anokye, who is from London but had a harbourside apartment in Bristol, in 2017 after a woman complained she had been r*ped by him.

After his arrest, officers discovered harrowing footage filmed by Anokye on his mobile phone that revealed he had abused multiple women.

Judge William Hart imposed an extended sentence, meaning Anokye will serve 24 years in prison and five on licence, and ordered he must sign the s.e.x offenders register for life.

The judge told Anokye, who appeared by video link from HMP Long Lartin, he had "no sexual boundaries or empathy for those concerned".

He said Anokye had "become addicted" to the "perverted pleasure" he took from abusing the women in the case.

The judge added: "You have a background that includes gang associations and criminal violence.

"I am entirely satisfied that your career as an artist was flourishing at the time of this offending and would have gone to greater heights.

"The popular acclaim that greeted performances of your best-known track Feed Em To The Lions was evident in the various videos that the jury saw of your performances.

"You were part of a well-known collective - Boy Better Know. The fellow artists from that collective have achieved great success."

The judge said none of those fellow artists were aware of Anokye's behaviour, or "dark side".

He added: "But none of those artists, dedicated to their craft, knew of your dark side and they are in no way tainted by your misdeeds which were carried out in a wholly private and hidden way.

"Your convictions have deprived you of that career but the fault is yours alone."

During the trial, the graphic video clips filmed by Anokye were played to the jury.

They showed Anokye interrogating the women about previous s.e.xual partners, slapping them, insulting them and r*ping them.

Awolowo died without Christ, he never fulfilled his destiny – Olukoya

General Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM, Pastor Daniel Olukoya has said that the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo never fulfilled his destiny because he did not give his life to Christ.

He said despite the greatness and exploit of Awolowo on the political scene, he refused to give his life to Christ even when the great Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola once went to his house.

In one of his preaching, as captured by Church Gist, a popular Facebook Christian page, Olukoya said “The great Apostle, Joseph Ayo Babalola once went to the house of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Who knows Chief Obafemi Awolowo? Awo. Anybody heard about Awo?

“Now let me be honest with you as a man of God. By the time the Civil War of Nigeria ended, Ojukwu (Odumegwu) said something. He said, “Nigeria did not fight us, Awo fought us”…Because he was Minister of Finance at that time and Nigeria did not borrow 1 Kobo. Not only that, he gave some advice that made victory possible. Then when he died, Ojukwu now said, this man was ‘the best President Nigeria never had’ and when you say Presidential Debate and you put Awo on TV to be debating with the others, by the time Awo begins to talk, the others look like fools. They look like fools because the knowledge with which he is talking and what he is saying, makes them look like fools.”

Olukoya added: “I had a friend who was in the Executive Military Council during the time of Gowon, the time they brought Awo from prison (Calabar) to become Finance Minister. He said when they brought him to that Executive Council and he sat down and looked at all those soldiers. He said “you want to make me Minister of Finance? Okay, let me give you a short lecture”.

“Then he gave those military boys a short lecture on Primary School Economics. By the time he finished, all those people who were there gave him a round of applause. Simple Primary Economics. Awo was the person that said that anybody who wants to trade with Nigeria, has to be primitive trade by barter. Bring this, I take this. Bring this, I take this. We are not going to be bringing money to go and buy. When you bring, we take. It’s an exchange.

“And when they were going to do Festac’ 77, they asked for Awo’s opinion. Awo said, “This Festac ’77 is a show of our primitivity and that the white man will be quite happy to see us exhibit our primitivity. He said that the money that would be used for Festac ’77 should be spent on technology for education, for things that will move people forward, not going back to the idols that dragged us to where we were, and the man had this uncanny attribute of being right.

“One day they asked him a question on television. They said, “why is it that you don’t take advice from other politicians?”. He said “Advice?, how can I take advice from someone who is busy dancing with free women on the street at night when I’m busy struggling and thinking about how things will go forward?”. That’s Awo. I’ve been to other places in the world. Do you know the President I see that matches Awo in intelligence is Fidel Castro of Cuba. When you see that one too talk, you will know that this man understands what he is talking about.”

According to Olukoya, “The great Apostle, Joseph Babalola went to visit Awo. Awo was not at home, he met his wife (Hannah Dideolu). And he said, “thus saith the Lord, the Lord said he has called me on the spiritual arena and he has called this man on the political arena. For this man to fulfill his calling, he has to surrender his life to Jesus”. Awo never surrendered his life to Jesus till he died and Awo never fulfilled his destiny.

“Can you raise your right hand everybody. Say My Father, every destiny waster assigned to my calling, DIE!”

First dog to test positive for COVID-19 in the U.S. has died

A German shepherd in New York that had the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in a dog in the U.S. has died.

Robert and Allison Mahoney of Staten Island told National Geographic that their 7-year-old shepherd, Buddy, developed breathing problems in mid-April after Robert had been sick with the coronavirus for several weeks. A veterinarian tested Buddy in May and found him positive for the virus.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported in June that a German shepherd in New York state was the first dog in the country to test positive for COVID-19, but did not identify the owners.

Buddy’s health declined steadily after he developed breathing problems and thick nasal mucus in April. He was euthanized on July 11 after he started vomiting clotted blood, the Mahoneys told National Geographic.

It’s unknown if the coronavirus played a role in his death. Blood tests indicated Buddy likely had lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system, veterinarians told the family.

A spokesman for the New York City Department of Health said arrangements were made to take the dog’s body for a necropsy but when the instructions were shared with the veterinarian, the body had already been cremated.

A USDA database of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in animals in the United States includes 12 dogs, 10 cats, a tiger and a lion. The agency says there is currently no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the coronavirus but it appears the virus can spread from people to animals in some situations.

Two planes collide at Lagos International Airport

An Airbus A330-243 owned by Middle East Airlines with registration number OD-MEA, ran into a Boeing 777 airplane with registration number TC-LJC operated by Turkish Airlines.

The Middle East airbus ran into the Turkish cargo flight, which was parked at the international airport apron, according to the Daily Sun.

The Turkish cargo plane was said to be parked at the tarmac when the MEA airbus which was taxiing ran into it.

The plane had to disembark its passengers who were already on board.

Earlier this week, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, spoke about the efforts of the federal government towards the resumption of international flights in the country.

Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, said talks are currently ongoing between PTF and the Aviation Ministry.

While the Nigerian government gave a green light for the commencement of local flights, international flight was still restricted.

Mystery as ghost ships wash up in Japan full of dead bodies

The mystery surrounding North Korean 'ghost ships' which have been washing up in Japan full of dead bodies may now have been finally solved.

For years, Japan's north coast had been the site of the disturbing phenomenon, with rickety fishing vessels arriving more than 1,000km from where they set out.

In 2017 the numbers were unprecedented with more than 100 damaged boats landing, containing a total of 35 bodies, compared to 66 vessels the year before.

Some have speculated the weather that year was to blame and that North Korea's aging fishing population had something to do with the problem.

But a study by non-profit Global Fishing Watch and published in journal Science Advances has been able to shed some light on the matter.

Researchers used satellite technologies to analyse marine traffic in northeast Asia in 2017 and 2018, and discovered hundreds of "dark fishing fleets" - believed to be Chinese - have been operating in North Korean waters - apparently illegally.

This meant ushering out North Korean boats and forcing them on ill-advised ventures into Russian and Japanese waters, poorly equipped for long distance travel.

For foreigners, fishing in waters off the North Korean coast or trading fish caught there internationally is against the law - but it doesn't appear to have deterred the huge swathes of rogue ships, according to the report.

The paper's authors estimate in 2017 and 2018 alone these ships caught more than 160,000 metric tons of Pacific flying squid, a particularly valuable seafood - worth £475 million.

Jaeyoon Park, a senior data scientist at Global Fishing Watch and co-lead author of the study, said: "It is the largest known case of illegal fishing perpetrated by vessels originating from one country operating in another nation's waters."

Another author, Jungsam Lee, said the North Korean vessels' decision to try their luck in distant foreign waters would have proved catastrophic for many of the fisherman.

"It is too dangerous for them to work in the same waters as the Chinese trawlers," he explained.

"That's why they're pushed to work in Russian and Japanese waters and that explains why some of North Korea's damaged vessels showed up on the beaches of Japan."

Northeast Asia's waters are some of the most contested seas in the world, but fish stocks are in dramatic decline.

Magu Ordered My Detention For Demanding ₦763 Million Legal Fee - Top SAN

Magu Ordered My Detention For Demanding ₦763 Million Legal Fee
A former prosecutor with the EFCC, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN), says the agency under the leadership of its suspended acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, has refused to pay him a joint sum of N763.9m in legal fees.

He, however, said amid several demands for his pay, Magu ordered his detention and prosecution on trumped up charges of bribing a judge.

Obla said this while reading out an 18-page letter to the Justice Ayo Salami-led Presidential panel titled, ‘Presentation In Respect of Malicious and Reckless Abuse of State Power of Investigation and Prosecution Resulting in Mismanagement of Forfeited Assets by Deliberate and Contrived Incompetence and Suspicious Dealing of Forfeited Assets’.

The senior advocate testified before the panel in the presence of Magu at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on Monday. He also presented 12 questions to the panel which he said the suspended EFCC chairman must answer and made five recommendations

Obla, who presented over 10 documents to the panel including his bill of charges, said he prosecuted 40 cases for the EFCC including those of former bank chiefs sacked by the Central Bank of Nigeria under the leadership of Lamido Sanusi and also helped the commission recover hundreds of billions of naira in cash and assets.

He said, “As of date, the EFCC owes me an outstanding balance of N685, 389, 928.10 and $202,460.47 (N78.5m) or its naira equivalent at the prevailing Central Bank of Nigeria exchange rate, together with interest at prime lending rate, being professional fees for the prosecution of over 40 high profile cases. See Statement of Claim in Suit No: FCT/CV/3220/17 BETWEEN Obla v. EFCC.”

The senior advocate said all subsequent letters sent to the EFCC were ignored but the fee was never contested. He said rather than pay him his legal fees, Magu decided to level several allegations against him in order to discredit and deny him his due.

“In effect, Ibrahim Magu deliberately and maliciously denied me the fruits of my services for EFCC whilst putting me to great expense to defend a worthless charge,” the lawyer said.

The senior advocate, who helped the EFCC to secure the conviction of a former Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Temisan Omatseye, in 2016, said he in the course of the case which lasted for six years, he travelled from his base in Abuja to Lagos several times and made 46 court appearances but was not paid a penny.

He said despite securing the conviction for the EFCC, Magu accused him of bribing Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia to secure the conviction.

Obla said, “I have never made any payment of N5m or any other amount to Justice Ajumogobia. To the best of my recollection, the payment of N5m under reference was a payment I made on May 21, 2015 to a company named Nigel & Colive Nig. Ltd, for the purchase of building materials for my construction site in Abuja (now my present office building).

“At that material time of this commercial transaction and till date, I had no prior knowledge that Justice Ajumogobia had any interest whatsoever in the company.”

The senior advocate said based on the allegations, he was informed by EFCC prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, that Magu, had personally directed that he be detained and he remained in custody for 21 days before he was subsequently arraigned alongside the judge.

The senior advocate called on the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to ensure that the frivolous criminal charges brought against him were withdrawn.

Obla said after he received a letter of disengagement from the EFCC, he turned in all files and gave his professional opinion on how to ensure that the cases continue seamlessly.

He said unfortunately, the lackadaisical manner in which most of the matters had been handled either indicate that the matters had been compromised or constructively withdrawn or abandoned like the N18bn pension fraud case involving the Head of Service.

The senior advocate said Magu went ahead to unceremoniously redeploy the Head of Legal Department, Chile Okoroma, who was assigned those cases.

Obla added, “Secondly, material evidence, which we returned to EFCC custody, were seemingly, withheld from him as he severally reached out to my office for help. Next, when it seemed that Mr. Chile was gaining some traction with the pension fraud cases, Ibrahim Magu conveniently despatched Mr. Chile off to National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, thus foisting a constructive abandonment of the pension fraud cases.

“In 2016, when Ibrahim Magu took over the files, those pension fraud cases were all part-heard in various courts of the Federal High Court, Abuja. Today, most of those cases are now in limbo and constructively abandoned.

“It has been suggested that one of the reasons why the Pension Fraud prosecutions have been stalled/frustrated has to do with the interest of one Alhaji Ali Abatcha who is a kinsman of Ibrahim Magu. The said Alhaji Ali Abatcha was the president of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners and was undergoing prosecution by myself before Mr. Magu took over. The status of this case and others should be reviewed.”

When contacted on the telephone, a lawyer to Magu, Tosin Ojaomo, said it was unfortunate that the panel could invite someone facing corruption charges to testify against Magu.

Ojaomo admitted that Obla was being owed funds but said the EFCC had to verify the fee before payment could be made.

“Really it’s inexplicable, unexplainable, strange and the height of absurdity for a panel on a serious matter like this kind of investigation to be inviting suspects standing trial to testify against their prosecutor.

“The salami panel is offering its platform to those aggrieved one way or the other against Magu by inviting them to make presentations. The presentations/ allegations were not made available to Magu.

“Even elements with pending corruption cases in court are invited. People being prosecuted by the prosecuting agency are making wild allegations even when pending allegations have yet to be cleared in court.”

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the robbers, who were led by a lady and armed with AK 47 riffles and dynamite, attempted to rob the bank in Okeho but were overpowered by police and local hunters.

It was gathered that the vigilante and local hunters with OPC who came to support the police wait for them in front of the bank, and they attack them as they were coming out of the bank. Unfortunately, a police officer was shot dead.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the incident happened at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
”At about 1658 hrs, there was a bank robbery in which daredevil armed bandits who came with white 18-seater bus invaded First bank Okeho in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State with an intent to rob.

Hydroxychloroquine saga: Professor says it CURES Covid-19

Debate continues to rage over the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine as cure for Covid-19.

The World Health Organisation initially recommended the drug, but later withdrew the recommendation. This followed some scientific studies that discredited the drug and also pointed out some fatal side effects.

Cameroonian-born Dr Stella Immanuel on Monday in Washington D.C. brought the drug back into public arena, claiming she had used it, along with Zinc and Azithromycyin, to great effect, to treat 350 Covid-19 patients.

Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force and the nation’s top infectious disease expert, again stated, in light of the Immanuel video, that the drug is not effective in treating Covid-19.

Fauci told MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Wednesday that scientific evidence has shown “consistently that hydroxychloroquine is not effective in the treatment of coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.”

But days before Immanuel’s impassioned speech in Washington, Harvey A. Risch, Professor of Epidemiology, Yale School of Public Health in a now viral Newsweek article, published 23 July, canvassed for the use of the drug to treat Covid-19.

“The key to defeating Covid-19 already exists. We need to start using it”, said the title of the article.

But he warns that the drug is effective when used early on afflicted patients.

Yale University has not denounced his position.

On Wednesday, Sten H. Vermund, Dean and Anna M.R. Lauder Professor of Public Health; Professor of Pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine said Risch position falls within the realm of academic freedom.

Vermund in the press release said: As Dean of the Yale School of Public Health where Dr. Risch is employed, I have championed maintaining open academic discourse, including what some may view as unpopular voices.

“The tradition of academia is that faculty may do research, interpret their work, and disseminate their findings. If persons disagree with Dr. Risch’s review of the literature, it would be advisable to disseminate the alternative scientific interpretations, perhaps through letters or other publications with alternative viewpoints to the American Journal of Epidemiology, Newsweek, or other outlets.

“My role as Dean is not to suppress the work of the faculty, but rather, to support the academic freedom of our faculty, whether it is in the mainstream of thinking or is contrarian”.

Vermund further attested to Risch’s scholarly pedigree and the fact that the controversial drug was applied in the early days of Covid-19 in America.

“Dr. Harvey Risch is a distinguished cancer epidemiologist who has opined on the topic of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and COVID-19 out-patient therapy.

“He has written a review article in the American Journal of Epidemiology that cites evidence that he believes supports HCQ use for out-patient infection with SARS-CoV-2.

“Studies that indicate no effect or harmful effects, Dr. Risch believes, enrolled patients too sick to benefit from HCQ.

“Yale-affiliated physicians used HCQ early in the response to COVID-19, but it is only used rarely at present due to evidence that it is ineffective and potentially risky,” Vermund said.
