FG moves to rescue trafficked Nigerian ladies from Lebanon

The Federal Government has begun moves to rescue 30 trafficked Nigerian ladies from Lebanon.
The Federal Government has begun moves to rescue 30 trafficked Nigerian ladies from Lebanon.

The victims had on Friday pleaded with the Nigerian government to rescue them.

They lamented that they were all camped in one room with faulty toilet and other utilities, and presently housed in a building at Dawra city in Lebanon.

Giving an update on Saturday, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri, said the
National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons is addressing the situation.

While responding to an enquiry on the efforts made to rescue the ladies, she tweeted, “NAPTIP is the agency responsible for trafficking. They assured that they are on this and other trafficking cases.”

Earlier, one of the victims, Miss Adebisi Comfort-Oluwatoyin with Passport No. number A10597908, told Journalists International Forum for Migration that they had to escape from the inhuman treatment by their mistresses and hosts.

The 23 years old lady hails from Ondo State, graduated from the Edo State Polytechnic, Ekpoma, and was a resident in Osun State before departing Nigeria in December 2019.

“Help us plead with the Nigeria Immigration Service and NAPTIP and others to save us. The Nigerian embassy in Lebanon have tried but we want to go back home.

“Our belongings and international passports were seized with no payments for the service we have been rendering for months. They loosen and cut our hairs with razor blade.

“The police and their immigration are always on their side. We are not getting justice and our lives are in danger,” the victim was quoted as saying.

Ronaldo buys £5.5m yacht to celebrate Juventus’ Serie A title win

Cristiano Ronaldo has celebrated winning yet another league title by spending £5.5 million on a new luxury yacht.

Juventus were confirmed Serie A champions after a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria on Sunday and it’s the seventh league title of Ronaldo’s career.

The 35-year-old has decided to commemorate the victory by splashing out on the vessel which boasts five cabins, six bathrooms, a large lounge as well as a kitchen. His girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez shared images on Instagram to give fans a peek inside.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez set sail for the first time this week after the yacht caught the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s eye at the Azimut-Benetti shipyards in Viareggio.

The Portuguese international picked out the yacht himself and also took his four children along.

On the pitch, it’s been another scintillating season and Ronaldo has scored 31 goals in 33 league games this season.

He is four goals behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile in the Capocannoniere race with one game remaining.

Juventus fell to a 2-0 defeat against Cagliari last night and they face Roma on Saturday in what will be their fifth game in 12 days.

Manager Maurizio Sarri has vented his frustrations post-match and has threatened to play an under-23’s team this weekend.

“Conceding 40 goals this season might be a concern, but tonight’s game was not,” he explained per Goal.

“We had we injured players and we came off a championship win 68 hours ago, so it was an atypical game that should be taken for what it is.

“We must become more solid. But we are the only ones in Europe who have played five games in 12 days, the league has created huge problems for us.

“Let’s see how we are tomorrow and if it is appropriate to deploy the Under-23s on Saturday against Roma to make the best recovery.”

When asked about starting Ronaldo with the league already wrapped up and Champions League looming, Sarri replied: “At times Cristiano and [Gonzalo] Higuain clicked because we did create chances, but we lacked a bit of class and ruthlessness tonight.

“Cristiano was very motivated, he wanted to play because he felt good and ready to play."

Plane overloaded with cocaine crashes on take-off

A light aircraft overloaded with cocaine crashed on take-off on its way to Australia, police said on Saturday, exposing a Melbourne-based crime syndicate and leading to the arrest of five men with alleged links to the Italian mafia.

The Cesna aircraft, which was stuffed with more than 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of cocaine, went down while attempting to leave a remote airstrip in Papua New Guinea on July 26.

Australian Federal Police said in a statement that “greed played a significant part in the syndicate’s activities” and added they “cannot rule out that the weight of the cocaine had an impact on the planes (sic) ability to take off.”

Five suspects were arrested in Queensland and Victoria in recent days, and have been charged with conspiring to import over 500 kilograms of cocaine and a number of related offenses. They each face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. The pilot was also arrested two days later, after surrendering himself to police.

Authorities said the plane had flown to Papua New Guinea from the small town of Mareeba in Far North Queensland, flying at about 3,000 feet to avoid detection by radar.

The cocaine stash was eventually found on Friday after a search of the area. Its total value was estimated to be around 80 million Australian dollars ($57M USD), the equivalent of about 500,000 street deals.

“With current interstate travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the attempt to import illicit drugs into Australia shows how opportunistic and greedy organised crime can be,” AFP deputy commissioner Ian McCartney said in a statement.

The arrested men — aged 31, 36, 31, 33, and 61 — were charged with a variety of crimes. The first man arrested faces charges of directing activities of a criminal syndicate and money laundering of over $1m AUD. A number of assets were seized by police, with an estimated total value of $3.5 million AUD.

The drugs bust is one of the largest in recent Australian history. In 2016, a similar-sized 500 kilogram haul of cocaine was seized by officers in New South Wales.

Bitcoin Theft Via Twitter Hack: US Police Arrest Suspect

Florida Teen Arrested Over Twitter Hack
A young American living in the city of Florida has been arrested over a major Twitter hack that led to thousands of people losing substantial amount of Bitcoin in July, according to the Hillsborough State Attorney's Office.

Recall that on 15 July, Twitter accounts of multiple high-profile US figures were hijacked in an apparent Bitcoin scam.

Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren has filed 30 felony charges against the teenager for "scamming people across America".

The charges include organised fraud and fraudulent use of personal information.

The attack saw high-profile accounts such as Elon Musk, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden, former US President Barack Obama and reality star Kim Kardashian West falsely tweet out requests for Bitcoin donations.

"As a cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is difficult to track and recover if stolen in a scam," Mr Warren said in a statement.

"These crimes were perpetrated using the names of famous people and celebrities, but they're not the primary victims here. This 'Bit-Con' was designed to steal money from regular Americans from all over the country, including here in Florida.

"This massive fraud was orchestrated right here in our backyard, and we will not stand for that."

Trans woman Jessica Alves shows off new hair and results of face surgery in new photos

Jessica Alves has shown off her new hair after proudly transitioning into living as a woman.

The socialite, formerly known as Roddy Alves, took to Twitter to share a video of herself getting her new look at posh London department store Harrods.

In the clip, which had been shot in slow motion, the hairdresser flipped Jessica's long blonde locks around her shoulders as she pulled a shocked face for the camera.

She then picked her locks up and twirled them around as she pouted and smiled.

Jessica, who was once known as the Human Ken Doll for her love of plastic surgery, then wiggled her breasts for the camera.

Her hairdresser was wearing a face guard while he played with her hair.

The video then sped up and she said: "Finito! Look."

Jessica, 36, tweeted the video, saying: "Loving my new hair #harrods #beauty #jessicaalves."

Her follower rushed to compliment her new look, with one tweeting: "You have a wonderful look."

"Looks amazing and you look so happy. You go girl," another posted.

A third agreed: "You look beautiful as always Barbie!"

Jessica has had 75 plastic surgeries and she estimates she's spent around £900,000 to achieve her look.

After she came out as transgender she spent £25,000 on breast enlargement surgery, as well as injections in her hips, knees and feet that totalled £35,000.

She also had her Adam's apple and six pack removed, facial feminisation surgery and started taking female hormones.

Photos: Hundreds of British public health workers stage protest to demand a pay rise

Thousands of NHS workers marched on Downing Street to show their anger after being snubbed for a pay rise - despite the heartbreaking toll of the coronavirus crisis.

Many gathered with placards, including one which reads: "We risk our lives to save yours".

Another says "Boris you clapped for us, now top us up".

Health and social care staff were overlooked by the government in the latest round of public sector pay rises.

More than 500 NHS and care workers have died after exposure to Covid-19, amid a shameful failure to provide them with suitable PPE.

Ministers put off a pay rise for NHS staff until April next year – when the three year pay deal comes to an end.

Last week chancellor Rishi Sunak awarded up to a 3.1% pay rise for 900,000 public sector workers, including doctors, teachers and police officers.

Health and care workers say this exposes the government's true attitude toward them - in spite of public praise heaped on the NHS.

Unite national officer for health Colenzo Jarrett-Thorpe said said healthcare professionals had "reacted with anger to being overlooked".

In real terms they have endured a 20% pay cut, he stated ahead of the demonstration.

He continued: “This sense of anger was heightened, especially in light of their work and sacrifices during the global pandemic which has taken the lives of more than 500 NHS and social care staff across the UK.

“We are facing a perfect storm for recruitment and retention in the NHS – in a decade of Tory austerity, NHS staff have seen their pay cut by 20% in real terms and many are considering leaving the health service; at the same time, there are about 40,000 nursing vacancies in England alone.

“This crisis is also being exacerbated by the scrapping of the student bursary, which is putting off many who may have considered becoming one of the next generation of nurses."

It comes despite public shows of gratitude to those on the frontline, Mr Jarrett-Thorpe said.

“What we have seen in the last few months is generous praise, warm words, and lots of Thursday evening clapping by ministers; yet we got a flavour of the government’s true feelings," he said.

Angelina Jolie's pal reveals details of her teenage days... photos of star before she found global fame

Angelina Jolie's teenage years have finally been revealed in a series of previously unseen throwback pictures.

The iconic 45-year-old actress had a wild upbringing in Los Angeles, California, and was also very 'anti-Beverly Hills' as she slowly rose to fame with modelling gigs and acting.

Angelina's school friend, who wished to remain anonymous, has since shed light on the A-lister's teenage ways and her fascination with the 'dark side'.

In the collection of unrecognisable pictures, taken when Angelina as 14, the star can be seen munching on pizza, posing in a cemetery and drinking with friends.

She also shared several written letters with her pal, who she met at El Rodeo Middle School, where she spoke about romances and family relationships.

Angie was into a punk lifestyle and black clothes, yet despite her edgy look her old pal pointed out that the star was always generous to those around her.

“She was always a wonderful person and we had a wonderful friendship," her school pal said.

“People don’t realise that she was always charitable, wild but charitable.

“I hadn’t seen her one time for six months and she gave me money.

“As she was better funded than us, Angie would always be generous in sharing with me and other friends.

“She could not walk by a homeless person without offering food or money and remarking that homelessness is awful. That was when she was 14."

As for what Angelina did in her spare time as a teenager, her pal claimed that the duo partied and enjoyed a drink with friends.

The insider added: “We partied. We drank and smoked cigarettes and took acid.

“We roamed about wherever we could get on the bus. She tried to do the things that were wild, that were anti-Beverly Hills.

“We dressed in black and thought we were anarchists.

Angelia's family life is also unveiled in a series of letters that the actress wrote to her friend as a teenager.

In one message she penned: "I’d rather lay naked in a pit full of red ants than go visit my relatives.”

Angie's school friend also added that the rebellious actress was frustrated when her mum gave her birth control.

The source continued: “She was annoyed when her mom gave her birth control pills and granted permission for Angie’s boyfriend to sleep in her room," they said.

“Angie rebelled and did the opposite by not sleeping with him at all and flushing the pills.

“She was always strong-willed and resilient from the time we met at the age of 13.”

In Angelina's other letters, the budding star recalled her romantic endeavours such as kissing boys and falling for photographers.

In one letter she added: "I met Mr Perfect.

“I don’t know his name, he’s a great kisser, I’ll never see him again!”

Even when Angelina Jolie ascended to global stardom, the Hollywood star never forgot her quirky 'punk kid' upbringing.

Now the mum of six is a prominent name in Hollywood and boasts a plethora of award winning films under her belt.

Drunken soldier shoots 13 dead, including a 2-year-old girl

A drunken soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DR Congo) troubled east opened fire on passers-by, killing at least 13 people including a two-year-old girl
A drunken soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DR Congo) troubled east opened fire on passers-by, killing at least 13 people including a two-year-old girl and seven women, sources said on Friday.

The murders incensed locals who laid out the victims’ shrouded bodies.

Youths built a big fire nearby and a local leader vilified the army and demanded that its troops and a UN force stationed in the district pull out.

Shocked relatives of the victims drifted around as they tried to make sense of the tragedy.

The incident happened late Thursday at Sange, in the territory of Uvira in South Kivu province, the sources said.

“The person responsible is a drunken member of the FARDC (DR Congo armed forces) who opened fire on at least 20 civilians who crossed his path,” a prosecutor in Uvira said.

Captain Dieudonne Kasereka, an army spokesman, said the soldier was “in a state of drunkenness and shot 13 people who died, and wounded nine others”.

The gunman was still armed and on the run, Kasereka added.

“An army delegation and a UN team is in the area to calm the population, which is demonstrating against the army,” he said.

Angry residents blocked Highway 5 which runs through the area, using branches, rocks and burning tyres.

They also displayed the 12 bodies, wrapped in funeral shrouds, at a busy crossroads, blocking traffic, several witnesses told AFP, but removed them later following talks between district representatives and civilian and military officials.

Ndaburwa Rukalisa, a local leader in Sange, said the soldier was a member of the locally based 122nd Battalion of the FARDC.

A judicial source said that a two-year-old girl was among those who were shot dead.

Local leader Bernard Kadodo said “we can’t understand the lax attitude of the army and (UN) Blue Helmets in Sange.

“The battalion has to pull out of Sange quickly. We want the UN mission to leave the city too.”

How Okada rider r.a.p.e.d, murdered nursery school senior prefect in Ondo

How Okada rider raped, murdered nursery school senior prefect in Ondo
On Friday July 17th, 2020, Mama Zainab, as she was popularly called, sent her 12-year-old daughter, Zainab Justina Adeyemo to a neighbouring village, Eshe-Akoko in Akoko North west Local government Area, Okeagba, Ondo state.

The vivacious Zainab, a senior prefect at Saint Augustine Nursery and Primary School in her village, Iru-akoko, wasted little time in responding to her dear mother’s errand.

Journey to the unknown
She left their house around 2pm and took a motorbike to make it easier and quicker for her. Unfortunately, hours after her mother thought she would have come back, she was nowhere to be seen.

The apprehensive mother quickly dashed to the village where her daughter was sent only to be told that she had long gone back after delivering the message.

Still hopeful, she rushed back to her village to meet an empty house, no Zainab.

In desperation, she went back to Eshe where she sent her and was told that her daughter joined a popular commercial motorcyclist called Dare while returning home. She was directed to Dare’s house where, to her chagrin, Dare denied seeing her.

Suspect opens up
This infuriated other commercial motorcyclists and they attempted lynching Dare, their colleague, but later ended up dragging him to the nearest police station where he admitted that he truly carried the girl with his motorbike and that he dropped her at Iru motor Park.

At this stage, he was compelled to show them where he dropped her, which he did. He was then taken to the nearest police station.

Agony of a mother Mama Zainab who could not control her emotions at this stage narrated to Vanguard Crime Guard in tears.

“On getting to the police station, now visibly frightened Dare pleaded that he should be treated gently assuring that the missing girl would eventually be seen.

Shockingly, he further claimed that while he was on his way from Eshe to Irun with Zainab, they had an accident and the girl was seriously wounded.

“Initially, we told the police to carry out immediate investigation into his claims but they were insisting that we must wait for the stipulated 24 hours before taking any action.

“This infuriated villagers and they went out in search of Zainab without the police. Luckily, after about five hours’ thorough search, the corpse of Zainab was discovered along a footpath in the bush. The police was informed and they later picked it.”

Protest for action
“The delay by the police forced both commercial motorcyclists in the area and villagers to stage a protest demanding that Dare must be brought out to say what happened to the little girl.

“The protest made the police to accost Dare who started narrating how he r.a.p.e.d and later killed the little girl. He told gory tales of how he was raping her inside the bush while they were on their way only to discover that she was dead.

“He claimed that Zainab died as result of the struggle that ensued between them during the process and he dumped her body in the bush.”

Police sources said after his confession, the protesting crowd nearly set the police station ablaze by insisting that Dare must be handed over to them to be killed,

However, the police succeeded in curtailing their moves and later transferred the suspect to the State Criminal Investigations Department in Akure where more investigations will be carried out over the case.

Four die, six injure in Sallah day tragedy

Four die, six injure in Sallah day tragedy
Four persons died on Friday in a motor accident on the Lambata – Minna Road in Niger State.

Six other people were injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The FRSC Niger Sector Commander, Joel Dagwa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that the accident, which occurred at about 23.40 hours at Kwanan Bakwai village of Gurara Local Government Area, involved a Mazda car and an articulated vehicle.

“Ten people were involved in the mishap; four were killed, six sustained various degrees of injury and were taken to Federal Medical Centre, Gawun Babangida, for treatment, while the four corpses were deposited at Sabon Wuse Mortuary.

He said that the truck was carrying cosmetics from Lagos to Kano, while the Mazda car overloaded with eight passengers took off from Lambata to Minna, the state capital.

The sector commander advised motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to speed limits to avoid crashes.

He blamed the accident on speed violation and loss of control.

The sector commander said that the Corps would continue to monitor road users to guard against dangerous driving.

” We will continue to sustain our aggressive patrols across all major highways to ensure that road users adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid road accidents during and after the ongoing Sallah celebration across the state,” he said.

Apple becomes world’s most valuable company

American tech company, Apple has become the most valuable company in the world on Friday after posting blockbuster quarterly earnings that sent shares of the technology company up as much as 7%.

Shares of Apple reached $412 at Friday’s intraday high, putting the company’s market value at $1.762 trillion, dethroning the oil giant Saudi Aramco as the most valuable company in the world with market value, worth $1.759 trillion at Friday’s intraday high.

According to Bloomberg, it’s the first time the company’s valuation has surpassed that of Saudi Arabia’s Aramco. Before that, Apple had vied with Microsoft Corp. for the title of the U.S.’s largest public company.

The dethroning of Aramco comes after a tumultuous period for the Saudi company. Its initial public offering fell short of Crown Price Mohammed bin Salman’s expectations. The kingdom’s de facto ruler initially wanted a valuation of $2 trillion and to raise $100 billion. But after foreign investors balked at the pricing, the government settled on a smaller domestic offering and raised about $30 billion, still the largest IPO ever.

Then came this year’s plunge in crude prices as energy demand crashed with the spread of the virus. Aramco’s second-quarter revenue probably dropped to about $37 billion from $76 billion a year earlier, according to analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. That’s less than the $59.7 billion in sales that Apple reported for its most recent period.

Aramco’s stock is down 6.4% since the end of December, though that’s far less than the fall of other oil majors. Exxon Mobil Corp. has declined 40% and Royal Dutch Shell Plc has dropped 50%.

Apple, meanwhile, has benefited as the pandemic has strengthened the market positions of the world’s biggest technology companies, which boast strong balance sheets and fast-growing businesses thanks to an acceleration in the shift to digital services. The iPhone maker’s shares have gained 45% so far this year.

PSG sweep all French trophies for 2019-20

Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) have won all domestic French trophies for 2019-20, after beating Lyon 6-5 in penalty shoot-out in the last ever Coupe de la Ligue final.

Keylor Navas and Pablo Sarabia wrapped up the victory in the penalty shoot-out after 120 goalless minutes.

Thomas Tuchel’s men had already clinched the Trophee des Champions, Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

Despite the absence of the injured Kylian Mbappe on Friday, PSG just about did enough to see off Les Gones.

While both sides crafted several half-chances, the match’s tempo resembled that of a pre-season contest as opposed to a cup final, and PSG – who were 1-0 victors in last weekend’s Coupe de France showpiece – perhaps unsurprisingly looked a little sharper.

A flurry of activity towards the end of the opening 45 minutes was not sustained in the second half, with the match appearing destined for extra-time long before the regulation 90 expired.

Rafael da Silva’s 119th-minute sending-off came too late to have any real impact.

In the subsequent shoot-out PSG held their nerve as Navas saved from Bertrand Traore in sudden death and Sarabia swept home the decisive kick.

Both teams now turn their attention towards the Champions League, with a potentially exhilarating quarter-final match against Atalanta in Lisbon a week on Wednesday awaiting PSG.

As for Lyon, they are in action against Juventus on August 7, as they go to Turin with a 1-0 lead from their last-16 first leg.

Sanwo-Olu rescues man from suicide attempt on Third Mainland Bridge

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, rescued a man who wanted to commit suicide because he has a debt of N500,000.

The governor made this known while speaking to journalists after he visited the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Broad Street and some other hospitals in different parts of the State, to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with in-patients and health practitioners.

Speaking on his response to a recent viral video of a boy begging his mother to calm down while punishing him for an offense he committed, Governor Sanwo-Olu said he believes strongly in paying attention and creating time to little things because there might be somebody somewhere who needs a help.

He said: “You look at big things but you need to certainly create time for little things as well. That is the difference. You know, you are going to build a bridge and it is nice but you have somebody who is just somewhere who needs a help.

“Just this morning (Friday), we rescued somebody who was planning to jump at the Third Mainland Bridge all because he said he has a debt of N500,000. We had to rescue him and we paid the debt. Those little details are what make the difference.

“I don’t have two heads, I don’t have 15 fingers. We are still same human beings. So, we need to show that human part of us while we are not losing sight of the big picture. The big picture is that we want to build roads, bridges and new schools. But we also need to pay attention to little one like the young boy on that video. By the way, I have spoken to him and his mother. They are doing great and I will see him one of these days very soon.”

Nigeria donates medical supplies worth N67m to Sao Tome and Principe

The Federal Government has donated medical supplies worth N67 million to the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe.

The donation was made on behalf of the Nigerian Government by the acting Head of East and Central African Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tukur Maigari, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the minister on media, Ms. Sarah Sanda, the Government of Sao Tome and Principe requested Nigeria’s assistance with medical equipment to help in its ongoing efforts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Onyeama disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the donation of five tons of medical equipment based on the request, adding that the medical equipment included units of test kits, extraction kits, infrared thermometers and personal protective equipment to test up to 20,000 people in Sao Tome and Principe.

How Businessman, Ofodile Was Murdered By A Friend Who Asked Him For Money

Popular Kogi-based Businessman Murdered By Friend
Nicholas Ofodile, a popular Kogi-based businessman who was found dead in his car last month along Abuja-Lokoja highway, was murdered by assassins hired by an aggrieved associate.

This was made known by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ede Ayuba, while parading the leader of the gang, one Vincent Omogor  and  27 others at the command’s headquarters in Lokoja.

Ayuba disclosed that the suspect was arrested by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives in collaboration with vigilantes in the state. He was arrested in Orehi area of the State.

Speaking with newsmen, the suspect said he was commissioned by someone who he referred to as “chairman” to assassinate the Ofodile. He said the suspect was aggrieved by the failure of the deceased to fulfill certain financial obligations to him when his (suspect’s) father took ill.

He explained that “chairman” became infuriated when his father died of the ailment and set the process of revenge in motion.

“Chairman gave us full details about the man’s movement from Lokoja to Abuja. We then waited for him and when we saw his car, we forced him to stop, dragged him out, killed him and put his body back inside the car,” he said.
