Tears rolls freely as parents of boy who died at WAW factory says it's a SET UP

Parents of boy, Richard Gbadebo, a 300L student of University of Ibadan who allegedly died at a factory of WAW in Oluyole, Ibadan has said his death isn't accidental but was murdered.

His mom couldn't speak much, but his father took out time to explain how his death can never be accidental and why a company as WAW can be so negligent to make a casual worker operate an industrial machine as powerful as that when he is not a professional.

Man 'r.a.p.e.s' lady in Ologuneru, Ibadan on Sallah day

What is this now! One Waheed Ogundele has been accused of r.a.p.i.n.g a lady (name witheld) in Ologuneru area of Oyo State.

Ogundele was said to have r*ped the lady on the night of Sallah while she went to share food to her neighbours.

A relative of the lady, who identified himself as Mahmud, told SaharaReporters that the rapist absconded while neighbours were trying to take him to a police station.

Mahmud said, “We were going to pray in a mosque when her mother sent her to go and give food to somebody.

She did not come back on time and we had to go and check to know why she is being delayed.

“We saw her coming on the road shedding tears with blood on her body.

“We asked what happened and she said Ogundele r*ped her.

“We tried to hold him down but his friends intervened and helped him escape.”

Mahmud said the case had been reported at the Eleyele Police Command, adding that they were trying to appeal to the family of the victim not to escalate the matter.

Condemning the rate of r*pe in the country, a lawyer, Alexander Atuchukwu, urged parents to educate and discourage their male children from r*ping.

Arsenal defeat Chelsea to win FA Cup

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang inspired Arsenal to a record 14th FA Cup win as the Gunners captain struck twice to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the final
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang inspired Arsenal to a record 14th FA Cup win as the Gunners captain struck twice to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the final at an empty Wembley on Saturday.

Christian Pulisic had given Chelsea the dream start, but the Blues unravelled after Aubameyang was brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta inside the area and converted the resulting penalty.

A brilliant finish from Aubameyang 23 minutes from time earned Mikel Arteta silverware in his first season as Arsenal boss before Chelsea were controversially reduced to 10 men when Mateo Kovacic was shown an extremely soft second yellow card.

Arteta said ahead of the final he hoped a taste of success would encourage Aubameyang, who only has a year left on his contract at the Emirates, to commit to a new long-term deal.

The Gabon international’s double took his tally for the season to 29 and ensured the Gunners will not miss out on European football next season for the first time since 1995/96 as they qualify for the Europa League.

An FA Cup final unlike any other with nearly 90,000 empty seats saw the traditional singing of “Abide With Me” performed on the Wembley roof.

Chelsea had already achieved their primary goal from Frank Lampard’s first season in charge by securing a place in next season’s Champions League last weekend and early on they seemed set to cap a top-four finish with Lampard’s first trophy as a manager.

Emiliano Martinez flew to his left to turn Mason Mount’s shot behind, but Arsenal did not heed that warning as Chelsea’s front three combined perfectly for the opener on five minutes.

Mount’s low cross was flicked on by former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud and Pulisic continued his scoring streak since football’s return in June by showing quick feet before prodding the ball home.

Arteta has gained plenty of plaudits for his tactical nous during his first eight months in a managerial role and the Spaniard managed to reorganise the Gunners during the first-half drinks break to change the momentum of the game.

Why Ajimobi’s widow was angry with govt — Oyo deputy gov

Oyo State Deputy Governor, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, has explained the reason for the anger displayed by Mrs Florence Ajimobi, widow of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, during the burial of her husband.

The deputy governor said this in Ibadan on Saturday when the leadership of the South-West Group of Online Publishers paid him a Sallah visit.

Olaniyan said he knew the widow was grieving, insisting that he was not angry with her.

He said he had nothing against the family, adding that the widow had called him and they had settled everything.

The deputy governor’s convoy was denied entry at the residence of Ajimobi during the eight day prayer for the deceased.

The widow also spoke angrily to the deputy governor when he and some governors went to condole with her at her residence.

But commenting on the incident, Olaniyan stated, “I was not angry with Mrs Ajimobi and the family. I had no premonition that something like that was going to happen.

“When you are going into politics, you must not forget to put the Omoluabi ethos in your bag. In fact, you must have had it before going into politics. You must know when to give respect.

“I cautioned the ADC and Chief Detail after we got there that nobody must be touched. I told them to keep their heads when others were losing theirs.

“She ( Mrs Ajimobi) has called and we have settled everything. I understand her, she was grieving, mourning the death of her husband. We don’t know the enormity of that grief.”

At 78, Ebenezer Obey says he will remarry soon

Juju music maestro, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey says he is set to remarry very soon.
Juju music maestro, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey says he is set to remarry very soon.

Obey, who lost his wife in 2011, said he would soon get married, but not to a younger woman.

In an interview with the Nation, he said the companionship of a wife is a good thing and not against God’s rule.

“So, I am here, I can marry at any time; not just for the sake of marriage as it is, but for the sake of companionship, because what else do I want?

“I have children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. So I have been blessed. It is not like I am looking for a wife that would conceive babies. As long as I still have life, you will hear when the time for marriage comes.”

Obey added that he would never marry a young lady at his age, but that he would marry a woman who is 60 years and above.

“Marry a young lady? It’s a foolish old man that will say he wants to marry a young lady. The young lady has just started her life and definitely is virile and strong.

“Someone like me should be thinking of a woman who is 60 or above. And when I do it soon, everyone will know,” he said.

According to him, he still missed his first wife and that he had seen her in his dreams so many times.

Lagos increases public gatherings to 50 persons

The Lagos State Government announced the increase of the permissible capacity of public gatherings from 20 to 50 persons
The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced the increase of the permissible capacity of public gatherings from 20 to 50 persons.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced this at the Lagos House, Marina, during the 17th update on the management of coronavirus in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said that the increase applied to a wide range of events from Annual General Meetings (AGMs) to funerals.

He said that there had been a general decrease in positivity rates of COVID-19 cases in Lagos State over the past two weeks.

According to him, the decrease, when combined with the increase in testing numbers, paints a very encouraging picture of the outcome of government’s response strategy.

He said that the state government would continue to fine-tune its efforts and strategies to build on the successes and close any existing gaps.

”Dear Lagosians, having carefully reviewed the current scenario in Lagos State, we have taken some important decisions in line with the ongoing objective of calibrating an effective balance between the competing demands of safeguarding lives and enabling livelihoods.

”We are increasing the permissible capacity for public gatherings from 20 to 50 persons. This applies to a wide range of events, from AGMs to funerals.

”Lagosians should please continue to keep in mind that there is documented evidence that mass gatherings can increase the spread of infectious diseases, such as coronavirus.

”As such, all standard prevention and control measures must be strictly adhered to: physical distancing, mandatory temperature checks and use of masks in public places, regular disinfection of premises, and strong personal hygiene.

”Restaurants will now be permitted to open for in-dining services, from the 14th of August, on the proviso that they maintain a 50 per cent occupancy capacity.

”The restaurants must have also obtained a Provisional Safety Compliance Certificate through the registration portal of the Lagos State Safety Commission: www.lasgsafetyreg.com,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He added that Social Clubs and Recreational centres would also now be allowed to open from Aug. 14, on the condition that they had applied for and obtained a Provisional Safety Compliance Certificate.

According to him, these Safety Clearance Certificates are at this time being issued only to Social Clubs with Registered Trustees.

He said that clubs and centres that reopen without complying with these mandatory requirements would be shut down and dealt with according to the law.

”Note also that the closure of all spas, bars, lounges, night clubs, cinemas, games arcades remains in place. The possible re-opening of these places will be further reviewed before the end of the month.

”As a State Government we will be ramping up our monitoring and enforcement work, to ensure that all our guidelines and directives are complied with to the letter.

”The relevant agencies will be carrying out spot checks and random inspections of businesses and facilities, and defaulters will be sanctioned appropriately,” the governor said.

He also said that secondary schools in Lagos would reopen, as earlier communicated by the Ministry of Education, from Aug. 3, for Exit Classes only – SS3 and Technical Studies TEC3 students only.

Sanwo-Olu said that the resumption date would allow them two weeks to participate in revision classes and examinations in preparation for the forthcoming West African Examinations (WAEC), which would start on Aug. 17, 2020.

He said that all COVID-19 standard precautions must be put in place by school authorities, as officials of the Lagos State Government would be inspecting all qualifying schools to ensure that these requirements were fully met.

Sanwo-Olu said that the state government would make face masks available to all schools to which this reopening exemption applies, for the duration of the reopening.

Bride's horror as woman crashes wedding claiming to be pregnant with groom's child

A scorned woman has been filmed crashing a wedding ceremony in front of shocked guests as she claimed to be the mother of the groom's child.

Footage of the incident has gone viral on TikTok since the chaos unfolded yesterday when the pregnant woman turned up at the outdoor wedding.

In the 33-second clip, a marriage officiant is reading the vows to the couple at the dome-shaped patio when a woman yells from behind.

She is heard saying: "Anthony! You pretend you didn't know me? didn't get your psych med today?

"Anthony I know you hear me! You’re acting like you don’t know me...I got your baby here!"

A few guests murmur behind the camera and whisper: "Oh no. Oh my God!"

The bride and groom look unfazed as the officiant carries on with the ceremony.

At one point, a young woman, who is seen holding a bouquet in her hands, dashes out of the patio.

She throws the flowers at the woman and shouts: "You better get out of my mama's wedding.

"What is wrong with you? What is wrong with you?"

The bride and groom turn around before the video ends.

The video – taken in Detroit, Michigan, US – was posted by user "Danielle on Demand" on TikTok and has amassed a whopping 1.6 million views in just 24 hours.

Viewers commented to ask for a follow-up video after the clip was cut short.

"Daughter was not having it! Good job to the pastor for keeping it going!" one said.

Another viewer commented: "Wedding drama on TikTok, where is part two now?"

Others were desperate to see the pregnant woman's face.

"Cameraman needs to be fired haha," one joked.

Actresses make themselves vulnerable in s.e.x-for-roles drama - Dayo Amusa

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has revealed that some actresses, especially the up and coming, make themselves vulnerable to s.e.x.ual harassment by movie producers and directors.

The 37-year-old in an interview with The Nation said an adult as every right to say no predatory men but most upcoming actresses in the industry are the ones running after producers and directors.

Asked if she had experienced s.e.xual harassment in the industry, the Unforgivable actress said: “No, I have not but something similar happened to me in my early years.”

“A director might see an upcoming (sic) actress and say I like you but you cannot be forced and it is so sad that these upcoming (sic) actresses are coming to fire the directors and producers to have their way.

“It’s not that the directors are the one taking advantage of them.

“Even the so-called girls as well come in making themselves vulnerable to the producers to get roles fast. So it takes two to tango.”

The actress who recently apologised for giving an inappropriate answer to an aspiring actress on Instagram added that the industry is quite big and there are many people competing for space.

“I believe everybody wants to find their space and some people might see it as a competition but as far as I am concerned, the sky is so big for everybody to take his or her space.

“For anybody that thinks they have to go the extra mile, that’s their problem.

“Just do your thing because people are watching,” she told her interviewer.

FG moves to rescue trafficked Nigerian ladies from Lebanon

The Federal Government has begun moves to rescue 30 trafficked Nigerian ladies from Lebanon.
The Federal Government has begun moves to rescue 30 trafficked Nigerian ladies from Lebanon.

The victims had on Friday pleaded with the Nigerian government to rescue them.

They lamented that they were all camped in one room with faulty toilet and other utilities, and presently housed in a building at Dawra city in Lebanon.

Giving an update on Saturday, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri, said the
National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons is addressing the situation.

While responding to an enquiry on the efforts made to rescue the ladies, she tweeted, “NAPTIP is the agency responsible for trafficking. They assured that they are on this and other trafficking cases.”

Earlier, one of the victims, Miss Adebisi Comfort-Oluwatoyin with Passport No. number A10597908, told Journalists International Forum for Migration that they had to escape from the inhuman treatment by their mistresses and hosts.

The 23 years old lady hails from Ondo State, graduated from the Edo State Polytechnic, Ekpoma, and was a resident in Osun State before departing Nigeria in December 2019.

“Help us plead with the Nigeria Immigration Service and NAPTIP and others to save us. The Nigerian embassy in Lebanon have tried but we want to go back home.

“Our belongings and international passports were seized with no payments for the service we have been rendering for months. They loosen and cut our hairs with razor blade.

“The police and their immigration are always on their side. We are not getting justice and our lives are in danger,” the victim was quoted as saying.

Ronaldo buys £5.5m yacht to celebrate Juventus’ Serie A title win

Cristiano Ronaldo has celebrated winning yet another league title by spending £5.5 million on a new luxury yacht.

Juventus were confirmed Serie A champions after a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria on Sunday and it’s the seventh league title of Ronaldo’s career.

The 35-year-old has decided to commemorate the victory by splashing out on the vessel which boasts five cabins, six bathrooms, a large lounge as well as a kitchen. His girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez shared images on Instagram to give fans a peek inside.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez set sail for the first time this week after the yacht caught the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s eye at the Azimut-Benetti shipyards in Viareggio.

The Portuguese international picked out the yacht himself and also took his four children along.

On the pitch, it’s been another scintillating season and Ronaldo has scored 31 goals in 33 league games this season.

He is four goals behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile in the Capocannoniere race with one game remaining.

Juventus fell to a 2-0 defeat against Cagliari last night and they face Roma on Saturday in what will be their fifth game in 12 days.

Manager Maurizio Sarri has vented his frustrations post-match and has threatened to play an under-23’s team this weekend.

“Conceding 40 goals this season might be a concern, but tonight’s game was not,” he explained per Goal.

“We had we injured players and we came off a championship win 68 hours ago, so it was an atypical game that should be taken for what it is.

“We must become more solid. But we are the only ones in Europe who have played five games in 12 days, the league has created huge problems for us.

“Let’s see how we are tomorrow and if it is appropriate to deploy the Under-23s on Saturday against Roma to make the best recovery.”

When asked about starting Ronaldo with the league already wrapped up and Champions League looming, Sarri replied: “At times Cristiano and [Gonzalo] Higuain clicked because we did create chances, but we lacked a bit of class and ruthlessness tonight.

“Cristiano was very motivated, he wanted to play because he felt good and ready to play."

Plane overloaded with cocaine crashes on take-off

A light aircraft overloaded with cocaine crashed on take-off on its way to Australia, police said on Saturday, exposing a Melbourne-based crime syndicate and leading to the arrest of five men with alleged links to the Italian mafia.

The Cesna aircraft, which was stuffed with more than 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of cocaine, went down while attempting to leave a remote airstrip in Papua New Guinea on July 26.

Australian Federal Police said in a statement that “greed played a significant part in the syndicate’s activities” and added they “cannot rule out that the weight of the cocaine had an impact on the planes (sic) ability to take off.”

Five suspects were arrested in Queensland and Victoria in recent days, and have been charged with conspiring to import over 500 kilograms of cocaine and a number of related offenses. They each face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. The pilot was also arrested two days later, after surrendering himself to police.

Authorities said the plane had flown to Papua New Guinea from the small town of Mareeba in Far North Queensland, flying at about 3,000 feet to avoid detection by radar.

The cocaine stash was eventually found on Friday after a search of the area. Its total value was estimated to be around 80 million Australian dollars ($57M USD), the equivalent of about 500,000 street deals.

“With current interstate travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the attempt to import illicit drugs into Australia shows how opportunistic and greedy organised crime can be,” AFP deputy commissioner Ian McCartney said in a statement.

The arrested men — aged 31, 36, 31, 33, and 61 — were charged with a variety of crimes. The first man arrested faces charges of directing activities of a criminal syndicate and money laundering of over $1m AUD. A number of assets were seized by police, with an estimated total value of $3.5 million AUD.

The drugs bust is one of the largest in recent Australian history. In 2016, a similar-sized 500 kilogram haul of cocaine was seized by officers in New South Wales.
