It’s a shame that Buhari, African leaders seek medication abroad – Oyakhilome

Founder of Chris Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has said it is a shame for African leaders, including President Muhammadu Buhari to be travelling to Europe and America to get medication when they are sick.

Buhari and some African leaders had on several occasions travelled abroad to seek medication when they were sick.

But Oyakhilome, in a broadcast to his members on Sunday described such act as a shame on African leaders to always seek help from abroad.

“Why can’t Africa be allowed to produce their medication? How many years do you need somebody to help you. For how long can you be waiting? It will be a shame at this time of your life and history if vaccines have to be imported to Africa to help Africa.

“It is a shame and a failure on the part of the leaders. Your great grandfather was helped, your grandfather was helped, now you want to be helped. It is a shame, you ought to come up with your own vaccines, whatever medicine you need.

“It is a shame that leaders of Africa still have to travel to Europe and America to get medication when they get sick. You should be ashamed. At this time of your life, you should have grown up, What are all the universities you have built, what are they for? It is about time you started thinking,” he said.

Oyakhilome lamented the huge brain drains in Africa, without the leaders bothering about the consequences.

“Look at the brain drain, they take the best of Africa and take to Europe, Asia and China and you don’t care, what kind of leadership that has no vision for the future? We need leaders in Africa that can think, leaders that have brains and some mind, and have a vision,” he stated.

He wondered when African leaders would put away childishness and still be depending on other countries for loans and others when they have enough.

” When will Africa put away childish things, Africa is old enough. Any nation in Africa that is still calling for help from another country, the leadership is a shame. You have more than enough resources to help your country. Why are you borrowing money from nations that don’t have it? Europe don’t have enough resources to borrow you money, neither does China, They are only borrowing you money they got from you, wake up,” he said.

Police arrest Lagos driver for allegedly beating passenger to death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial driver, Habeeb Quadri, for allegedly assaulting a passenger resulting in his death.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial driver, Habeeb Quadri, for allegedly assaulting a passenger, Emmanuel James, in the Surulere area of the state, resulting in his death.

Quadri was arrested by the Bode Thomas Police Division on Thursday with eyewitnesses claiming that the driver hit James in the chest over an issue bordering on money during which the deceased slumped. The scuffle occurred at the Bode Thomas Junction.

Our correspondent was told that the incident caused confusion at the junction as other passengers and passersby tried to revive James to no avail.

They reportedly thereafter prevented Quadri from escaping from the scene.

A police source narrated that the deceased’s son reported the matter at the station, after James was rushed to the hospital but confirmed dead by a doctor.

The source said, “It is a murder case and we are investigating it. On July 20, about 9am, the passenger’s son, who identified himself as Emmanuel Kayode, came to the station.

“He and his father lived on Olatunde Onimole Street, Aguda in the Surulere area. He reported that his father was assaulted by a commercial driver named Habeeb Quadri at the Bode Thomas Junction. The man was thereafter rushed to the hospital after he collapsed immediately.

“The son stated further that the hospital rejected him and based on the man’s critical condition, he was taken back home for treatment. Along the line, he gave up the ghost. We have taken the statement of the complainant. The scene of the incident was also visited. The suspect has been arrested.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bala Elkana, confirmed Quadri’s arrest, adding that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation.

He said, “The case is presently with the SCIID. Investigation is ongoing and the suspect will soon be charged.”

Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan, recovers from COVID-19

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan said Sunday he had been discharged from hospital, three weeks after being admitted with “mild” coronavirus symptoms after testing positive for the disease.

The news came as powerful Indian Home Minister Amit Shah revealed he had tested positive for coronavirus, which is infecting tens of thousands of people a day — and killing hundreds — in the world’s second most-populous country.

More than 1.7 million people have now been infected in India, giving it the world’s highest toll behind the United States and Brazil, and more than 37,000 have died.

Bachchan’s actor-son Abishek, who was admitted at the same time, will remain in hospital, while his daughter-in-law, actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, and granddaughter Aaradhya were discharged last week.

They were the highest-profile family in India to contract the virus in a country that worships movie stars.

“I am back home. I will have to be in solitary quarantine in my room,” Bachchan wrote on Instagram, saying he had tested negative.

He thanked his family, fans “and the excellent care and nursing” at the hospital, saying they “made it possible for me to see this day”.

At the time he said he had “mild” symptoms.

Bachchan’s discharge came as Home Minister Amit Shah — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s right-hand man — said he had tested positive for the virus.

“On getting initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got myself tested and my report is positive,” Shah tweeted.

“My health is fine, but on the advice of doctors I’m getting myself admitted to a hospital.”

The 55-year-old — the first national government cabinet minister to test positive — called on everyone in contact with him over the past two days to get tested and isolated.

It was not clear if Shah had met Modi or other senior cabinet ministers in recent days. He was admitted to a hospital in Gurgaon, just outside the capital New Delhi, local media reported.

At least six people, mostly children, died when an improvised explosive device went off in northern Burkina Faso, security sources and local officials said Sunday.

The IED, which exploded as the group’s cart was passing late Saturday, also injured four others, they said.

Northern Burkina Faso is notorious for jihadist attacks which have killed more than 1,000 people there and displaced about a million more since 2015.

The victims were “nearly all children who were returning from grazing their livestock”, a local in Ouahigouya said. “The cart which carried some of them rolled over a mine.”

IED attacks have multiplied since 2018, killing nearly 200 military personnel and civilians, according to an AFP tally. Such attacks are often combined with an ambush.

Jihadist violence, which is often accompanied by inter-community strife, has killed more than 4,000 people in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, according to United Nations figures.

Amaechi To Nigerians: No Need To Panic, We're Already Paying China Loans

Nigeria Already Paying China Loans
Nigeria's Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that Nigeria is already repaying China loans.

Amaechi stated this when he appeared on a live television programme (Democracy Today) aired on AIT on Saturday.

He said, out of the $500m loan the federal government took to build the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, $96m has been paid, adding that Nigeria has capability to pay all the China loans.

“We are paying the loans. In the same National Assembly sitting, they were told that the $500million loan, we have paid $96m already.

“Nigeria is already paying and the $500m was not taking by us, it was taken by President Goodluck Jonathan in his term and that clause was there,” he said.

He said the excitement about the immunity clause is misplaced as it was just a clause that protects China money.

“Anybody that is saying he doesn’t know what a sovereign guarantee or immunity is, too bad for the person, because it simply means in trade that I am not giving you this loan free of charge, just like you go to the bank to collect a loan, the moment you don’t pay they go after your assets you put down.

“That is all about the clause, the Chinese can never come and take over Aso rock and become President or Minister,” he said.

The minister continued, “The National Assembly are aware of all these loans. We can’t take loan without the National Assembly.

“So, ask why they are investigating? “The Chinese is just asking us to show them the evidence that we will pay back which is the immunity clause.

“If we don’t pay, they can take back their assets,” he noted.

Meet the Playboy 'King of Instagram' with a $200m fortune

For years, many have asked how wild man Dan Bilzerian became the "King of Instagram" and earned a $200m net worth.

His official Instagram account, of which he boasts 32.1million followers, often sees him sharing a variety of snaps of himself surrounded by beautiful women.

To many, he is quite literally living the 'dream' as Bilzerian can often be found in a hot tub, on a yacht, a private jet, five star hotels – you name it, he's done it.

But arguably one of the cleverest ways in which he likely enhanced his fame and his bank account is by asking people to tag their friends in his posts and in doing so, they could be in for the chance of winning a holiday.

There are many other techniques Bilzerian has used to build his £154,008,000 fortune and international celebrity status. Daily Star Online has dissected how he could have amassed such a huge fortune.

Dan, who was born on December 7, 1980, in Tampa, Florida, is the son of corporate takeover specialist Paul Bilzerian and Terri Steffen.

His dad, who also has another son called Adam, was a corporate trader on Wall Street, who set up trust funds for both of his sons to live on.

It is unknown how much exactly was put in trusts for the two lads to live on.

However, in an an interview with the Wall Street Journal last year, Dan acknowledged that he did inherit some money in a trust from his father.

His dad is a felon who in 1993 was slapped with $62 million in fines by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for fraud and as of 2014 had only paid back $3.7 million of it.

Dan declined at the time to say how much or what role said funds had in "kick-starting his career".

Dan, who is also a former Navy seal trainee, has confessed he made a killing of his own at high-stakes poker games.

He once boasted on his Instagram that he made $50m in a year playing the game.

He claims he began making five figures most weekends, and that he didn't feel a need to complete his degree because of it and therefore chose to drop out.

By 2007, he was competing in high stakes poker matches.

Speaking on his poker career in a 2013 interview with the Daily Dot, he opened up about the figures.

He told the publication: "I went broke after sophomore year, gambled away all my money, sold some guns, turned $750 into $10,000, flew to Vegas, turned ten thousand into $187,000."

The Instagram influencer has even starred in a film as a poker player when he appeared in the 2013 film Lone Survivor, which also starred Mark Wahlberg.

Dan has played poker with many of Hollywood's finest including, but not limited to, Tobey Maguire and Nick Cassavetes.

His rich lifestyle means he also has a lot of celeb friends who he has shared snaps with.

These pics have included Cardi B, Mel Gibson, Tyga, Steve Aoki, Shark Tank 's Kevin O'Leary and more.

According to the magazine GQ, Dan also gets around 20,000 new Instagram followers a day, which can only help with boosting his bank balance and celebrity status.

SpaceX crew returns to Earth, ending historic mission

Two US astronauts have undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) and were expected to splash down in the Gulf of Mexico
Two US astronauts have undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) and were expected to splash down in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday afternoon, ending a historic mission testing human spaceflight operations for SpaceX hardware.

NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, captaining the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, undocked at 7:35 pm (2335 GMT) on Saturday.

Their trip back to Earth is expected to take about 19 hours and they were expected to “splashdown” off the coast of Florida at 2:41 pm.

In May, the two astronauts became the first people to dock a privately-built spacecraft on the ISS.

It was the first launch from US territory in nearly a decade and the first time a private firm, rather than a government space agency, has sent astronauts into orbit.

The purpose of the trip was to complete the validation of human spaceflight operations for SpaceX hardware, which will pave the way for private companies to ferry astronauts to the ISS, ushering in a new era of commercial spaceflight.

School Reopening: Ogun begins mandatory COVID-19, malaria tests for SS3 students

As part of the protocols for school resumption, the Ogun State government has announced that COVID-19 and malaria tests will be mandatory for returning boarding students.

The state had earlier fixed resumption of SS3 students for August 4, months after a nationwide halt of academic activities necessitated by COVID-19.

The decision is a resolve to allow the students to prepare for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) slated to begin on August 17.

As of the time of filing this report, over 40,000 Nigerians have contracted the respiratory killer-disease which broke out in February.

Meanwhile, in a statement on Saturday evening, Ronke Soyombo, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary and Secondary education, noted that the state has made provisions for the two tests.

“The ministry of health has made provision for a COVID-19 and MALARIA TEST for all SS3 BOARDING students in Ogun State as part of the conditions for the reopening of schools in the under listed Public Health Care facilities between Friday 31st July & Monday 3rd August, 2020,” she said.

The facilities listed include Ogun State General Hospital, Ota, the 250 MTR Okemosan, Abeokuta, and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

She added that part of the strong condition of admittance to school for boarding students is the COVID-19 certificate showing ‘Negative’.

“All Principals are therefore directed to immediately disseminate the above important information to all SS3 learners in the State and to ensure that the above instructions are strictly adhered to as sanctions will be meted out to any defaulting school,” Mrs Soyombo stated.
