Beyoncé celebrates 39th birthday with $1M donation to black-owned small businesses

Beyoncé, for her 39th birthday celebration, has donated $1 million to help black-owned small businesses that have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Two days before her birthday, Beyoncé’s philanthropic foundation BeyGOOD announced that it had partnered with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP):

“Proud to announce $1m in additional funds from Beyoncé to help black-owned small businesses. Round two of funding opens this month, with our partner NAACP,” the foundation wrote in an Instagram post shared two days before Beyoncé’s birthday.

The “additional funding” of $1 million comes a month after BeyGOOD had announced that it had partnered with the NAACP to launch The Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund.

At the time, the NAACP said in a statement that: “Over the last couple of months, the pandemic and outpours for justice throughout the black community and across the country has been felt in every imaginable area of our lives, including in how our local businesses continue to operate.

“The challenges of black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated, as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits due to damages and other small business needs.”

Beyonce established BeyGOOD in 2013 as a way to “inspire people to be kind, to be charitable and to #BeyGood to themselves, to others, to the community, and to our world.”

42 persons rescued as Osun seals orphanage for illegality

The Proprietor of an Orphanage home in Ile-Ife, Mrs Elizabeth Oroyemi slumped as Osun State Government officials sealed the social facility over suspected illegal activities, including being used as baby factory.

The woman who was resuscitated begged the officials not to seal the property, located at Opa Area of the ancient town, being her only legacy of over 18 years.

However, the Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Mrs Bukola Olaboopo while stating the reason behind the closure said the factory’s operation constituted a danger to the well-being of the orphans residing therein.

She also said apart from not taking adequate care of the children at the orphanage, the environment where it operates is completely untidy while those working there lack the adequate knowledge to so do.

According to her, “we suspected that the facility is used for activities such as baby factory which is completely unacceptable to Osun State Government. And the operator had earlier been given the opportunity to address the shortcomings observed by a committee set up about five years ago, though she moved to a new facility, the activities in the facility is still the same.

“The social workers working in the facility are unprofessional, the environment where it is operating is totally untidy, while most children in her care were malnourished and exceeded the number approved by the Child Right Law 2013 of the State among others”.

She disclosed that 42 persons were evacuated from the facility, comprising of 24 toddlers, three adults, and those with physical disabilities.

She added that the move became imperative to give the children the best education, nutritious meals required for Healthy growth and proper shelter by the State Government.

“All the evacuees were given food and other confectionaries before they were relocated in batches to various standard orphanage centres across the State for best care”, she said.

Olaboopo while urging orphanage operators in the state to ensure they fulfil the statutory obligations and operate within the ambit of the law, she disclosed closing the facility would deter others from operating against the existing laws.

BBNaija 2020: Why I was aggressive in relationship with Prince – Tolanibaj

Tolanibaj, an evicted Big Brother Naija lockdown housemate, has revealed why she was aggressive in her relationship with Prince while in the house.

Tolanbaj and Prince, who were couples in the house ended their relationship last week before her eviction

Tolanibaj said her aggressive approach was to serve as a warning to Prince who was not doing enough to keep their relationship running.

Tolanibaj had complained severally about Prince not openly showing his feelings for her.

She had complained of not being happy with him and ended their relationship, one week before her eviction.

Speaking during a media tour, Tolanibaj said “With the whole aggressiveness it was just to wake him up because even as I was aggressive I was like ‘guy wake up because I can end it at any moment.’

“I’ve had relationships where I had to warn a guy first and second and I was like when I’m gone I’m gone. When I say ‘no’ then it is over. For Prince, I wanted to warn him three times.

Messi reveals what his whole family did when he told them he wanted to leave Barcelona

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has revealed that his whole family began crying when he told them he wanted to leave the Camp Nou club this summer.

The Argentine captain explained that it was a brutal drama, adding that his children didn’t want to leave Barcelona because they did not want to change schools.

Messi, on Friday evening, confirmed that he had changed his mind and will remain a Barcelona player for the 2020/21 season.

This comes after ten days of intense speculation, triggered by the Argentine’s fax to Barcelona, asking for his contract to be terminated.

Messi told Goal: “When I communicated my wish to leave to my wife and children, it was a brutal drama.

“The whole family began crying; my children didn’t want to leave Barcelona, nor did they want to change schools.

“My son, my family, they grew up here and are from here. There was nothing wrong with wanting to leave.

“I needed it, the club needed it, and it was good for everyone.

“My wife, with all the pain of her soul, supported and accompanied me.

“Mateo is still little, and he does not realise what it means to go somewhere else and make your life a few years elsewhere.

“Thiago, he is older. He heard something on TV and found out something and asked.

“I did not want him to know anything about being forced to leave, to have to live in a new school or make new friends.

“He cried to me and said, “let’s not go”. I repeat that it was hard, really.

“It was understandable. It happened to me. It’s very difficult to make a decision.”

“I love Barcelona, and I am not going to find a better place than here anywhere. Still, I have the right to decide,” Messi added.

Don Jazzy, D’Banj inspired me to go into music – Davido

Nigerian singer and label record owner, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy and D’banj inspired him to go into music.

The star who is also a father of three children made this known in a recent Instagram Live chat with Grammy Museum.

According to him, “Coming from Atlanta and just hanging around them inspired him.

“I remember seeing them with Jay-Z and Kanye West in a room and honestly, they had a lot to do with me wanting to do music even though my father has also been a mentor.”

“In the early stage of my career, I was like a one-man-band. I made the beat for the first single, and equally recorded the song myself.

“I mixed and mastered Dami Duro myself. When I was getting bigger, I could no longer do everything myself.

“Now, I have producers and songwriters who I work with. I now believe in collective efforts.

“The business side of everything is important. Music is just about 30 or 40 per cent,” he said

He further stated that Going back to school helped him to concentrate, adding that it was something he also had to do for his father.

“It wasn’t that I wanted to rebel. I was just in love with music.

“I could not concentrate on something else.

“I was slacking in school and other things I wasn’t supposed to slack in because of my love for music.

“I had to fight for it. It’s what I knew I was destined to do.

“I was learning how to record, so I was slacking in other things. Music took over me,” he added.

Woman makes out with her own father to win £550 on radio game show

A woman made out with her own father on a radio game show to win £550.

In the clip, the  26-year-old Stacey passionately kissed Nick, 49, to trick Australian radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson into believing they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

However, it emerged that the pair were actually father and daughter, leaving everybody feeling stunned and a little bit queasy.

The stunt occurred as Stacey went live on the Kyle and Jackie O Show to play their game ‘Boyfriend or Daddy’, which sees the hosts guess whether the man brought in is their guest’s – you guessed it boyfriend or daddy.

Jackie, who was talking in a studio remotely from Melbourne, explained that they would guess the couple’s relationship by studying their body language and ‘how uncomfortable you might be with certain questions’.

And Stacey and Nick, who shared a peck on the lips as Nick entered the studio, seemed pretty chill, as Stacey said: ‘I have a thing for older guys, Kyle.

‘My dad told me to go find a nice Greek boy, ‘cause I’m a little bit Greek, so I did. They weren’t too impressed at the beginning, but he’s come around. They seem to go fishing and stuff together now.’

The show’s newsreader Brooklyn Ross noted that the pair had been holding hands in the green room, giving further weight to the ruse and then came the uncomfortable questions that would surely root out the liars.

Jackie asked: ‘With your boyfriend, what is your favourite s.e.x.ual position in the bedroom?’

Stacey said: ‘I always go on top. I’m a little bit smaller than him so I kind of don’t like to be smothered, so being on top is definitely the way to go with us.’

After Kyle joked about if she was worried he would have a heart attack, Stacey continued: ‘I think things get better with age, just like a fine wine.’

Nick himself said he liked it ‘underneath’, and when asked about his opinions on oral sex, he said: ‘Yeah… it took a while to get me to come around that way, both giving and receiving.’

His girlfriend/daughter added: ‘I’ve taught him a lot’, with Kyle noting: ‘This could be real weird if it ends up being the father.’

Jackie, who was keeping an eye on the comments on Instagram Live, pointed out that many viewers thought that Stacey and Nick looked very alike, meaning they could be related.

So to determine the truth once and for all, Jackie asked if Stacey and Nick would mind sharing a little kiss – although didn’t want to ‘encourage a pash’ in case they did turn out to be father and daughter.

The pair happily obliged and leaned in not for a peck, but a proper snog – leading to the studio deciding that they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

Only for Stacey to reveal: ‘The things we do for money – this is actually my father!’

Kyle and Jackie were stunned, with those outside the studio seen jumping up and down in disbelief.

Stacey laughed: ‘My boyfriend’s going to be mortified’, as Kyle revealed that they had won $1,000 (£548) for tricking them.

People watching on Instagram Live were equally grossed out, with one comment reading: ‘WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE’ and another person writing: ‘For 1k, how desperate can you be?’

All we know is, Christmas dinner at Stacey and Nick’s house this year is going to be hella awkward.

NCAA releases schedule, more updates as international flights resume

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has released a flight schedule, as international flights begin Saturday, September 5.

Others include Emirates, British Airways, Ethiopian, Asky, Air Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt Air, Delta, Middle East and Kenya Airways.

Maisie Williams claims Game of Thrones alternate ending saw Jon Snow kill the Night King

Maisie Williams has claimed there was an alternate ending to Game of Thrones where Jon Snow (Kit Harington) killed The Night King…according to Kit Harington.

Loyal viewers of HBO’s high-fantasy epic will remember, of course, that in the divisive final season, Arya Stark (Williams) shocked basically everyone when she killed The Night King during the Battle of Winterfell, effectively ending the White Walkers’ threat to Westeros and clearing the deck for Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) conquering of King’s Landing.

This effectively named Arya, in a neat plot twist, as The Prince That Was Promised, a title that many viewers (and readers of George RR Martin’s A Song Of Ice and Fire novels) had assumed would go to Jon Snow.

But it seems that no-one was more shocked by the turn of events of season eight that Mr Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Maisie revealed that the Spooks actor had actually been privy to some confidential information early in the shooting of Thrones…that in an alternative ending, Jon would indeed have been the one to kill the Night King.

Asked about the twist (and the bait and switch of Arya and Jon), Maisie said: ‘Yeah, they did [expect Jon to kill The Night King.]

‘[Harington] expected it to go that way, too, and he even said, “It was going to go that way. Someone told me in season three that I was going to kill The Night King.”’

‘Then, he read the script, and it was Arya the whole time,’ she laughed.

Asked why she thought showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss made the switch, Maisie elaborted: ‘Yeah, I think it would’ve been too obvious. I’m glad that it was Arya, honestly. I think I had the best storyline of the final season.’

We’ll raise you a Sansa Stark on that, hun, but otherwise we totally agree, and not many of the characters of Thrones could say that after season eight! (No tea no shade, OK, maybe a bit).

And if you’re still (still!) waiting for author George RR Martin to hurry up and finish his epic fantasy series we’ve got good news for you – he’s cracking on with finishing The Winds of Winter during lockdown.

Of course, after he does that, he does also have to start and then finish the final book A Dream of Spring but…one thing at a time!

Sanwo-Olu suspends director for imposing 5% levy on Netflix, Iroko TV, others

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has suspended the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, Bamidele Balogun, for imposing a five per cent tax on digital platforms including Netflix and Iroko TV.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, said this in a statement on Friday night titled, ‘Lagos State Has No 5% Levy on Audio and Visual Contents of Physical and Digital Platforms’

Omotosho, who is the Spokesman for the state government, said Balogun acted without authorisation and was therefore suspended.

The statement read in part, “There is no levy on audio and visual contents of all physical and digital platforms in Lagos State. The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, Mr. Bamidele Balogun, is said to have announced a five per cent levy.

“The government hereby dissociates itself from the said announcement in the media. The Executive Secretary, who was not authorised to make such an announcement, has been suspended, pending an administrative enquiry.”

He said the Sanwo-Olu administration is not insensitive to the fact that the industry has been badly hit by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and empathises with this and other sectors of the economy.

A Federal High Court had barred the LSFVCB from levying film and video producers.

Justice Chuka Obiozor of a Federal High Court had in a judgment in June 2020 stated that the LSFVCB could not be collecting taxes at the same time as the National Film and Video Censors Board as it amounted to double taxation.

Despite the judgment, however, Balogun had written letters to several digital platforms including Netflix and Iroko TV demanding five per cent.

A letter, which was addressed to the Managing Director of Iroko TV, Jason Njoku, stated that the firm must pay five per cent on all visual and audio content.

The letter dated August 31, 2020, read in part, “We hereby request for immediate payment of the five per cent levy on all audio and visual content produced, sold, distributed, marketed, exhibited, streamed, downloaded and shared across all physical and digital platform situate, lying and being within Lagos State.”

Naomi Campbell sued by billionaire ex Vladislav Doronin

Billionaire businessman Vladislav Doronin has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against ex-girlfriend Naomi Campbell.

In court documents obtained by TMZ, Doronin — who dated Campbell from 2008-2013 — alleges that his supermodel ex is refusing to pay back a sum he loaned her over the years, though the exact amount remains unclear. He also claims she’s still holding on to some unspecified belongings of his, worth in excess of $3 million.

Doronin earned his fortune as an international real estate developer and is the owner and chairman of Aman Resorts. While they were dating, he frequently treated Campbell — as one does — to yacht trips and getaways to his private home on Cleopatra Island in Turkey.

It was recently revealed that another man from Campbell’s past — alleged “fling” Mike Tyson — may have pushed the runway diva out of his vehicle.

“I think Mike pushed you out of a moving car one night … I think you gave somebody your number and he lost his head,” comedian Chris Rock told Campbell during a YouTube chat.

Campbell quipped: “You sure it wasn’t me that pushed him? That’s if I even got in the car with him … It’s a good thing we’re all grown-ups today and we’re family … It’s nice to see him blossom.”

She added, “Those were fun times in New York … can never go back to those.”

Face mask suffocates security guard to death

Solomon Ede was in the habit of never failing to wear his face mask in order to protect himself against the dreaded coronavirus otherwise called Covid-19.

At bed time every night, he would usually remove the loose-fitting piece of protective cloth. Penultimate weekend, however, he made a costly error that sent him into early grave.

On Friday, August 28, the 50-year-old private guard popularly called Baba Rita and attached to a building in Alako area of Abeokuta, was said to have gone to bed without removing his face mask shortly after he took a local gin popularly called ogogoro.

His lifeless body was found face down with his face mask the next day, suggesting that he died of suffocation from the face mask.

Sources revealed that neighbours who came to fetch water at the compound of the house where the deceased worked as a guard until his death banged on the gate of the building endlessly but Ede did not come out to grant them access to the tap.

It was said that the noise at the gate of the building alerted Ede’s boss who opened the gate for the visitors and decided to check on Ede in his room, but the door to his room was firmly shut. His boss then forced the door of the apartment tucked inside the security house of the building open only to find Ede lying face down on the bed lifeless and with his face mask in place.

The boss was said to have raised the alarm which attracted other residents to the building, with many blaming the deceased’s tragic death on his obsession with alcohol.

The news of the guard’s death triggered emotions as sympathisers had a hectic time consoling his widow, who had rushed to the scene on receiving the news of her husband’s death.

It was said that the expectant wife of the deceased’s boss was shell-shocked and almost passed out at the scene but for the quick intervention of female sympathisers who took her away.

A source said: “But for the noise from those who came to fetch water in the early hours of the day, no one would have known that a tragedy had occurred.

“It was when the deceased failed to come out of his apartment to attend to those fetching water in the premises of the house that his boss came out and discovered his body.”

Shocked by the discovery, the unnamed Ede’s employer reported the matter to a police division at Kemta, Idi Aba.

Sources said the deceased was recently persuaded by his boss to open an account in a bank for the purpose of receiving his salary, following the way he was lavishing his money on alcohol.

A neighbour who spoke in confidence said: “Earlier on the day of his unfortunate death, his employer reminded him of their previous discussion about opening a bank account so he could be paying his salary into the account without delay, especially when he is out of town.

”He was to be paid his salary same Saturday his lifeless body was found in his room.”

Some sympathisers revealed that Ede took to alcohol after suffering depression. He was said to have been warned by his employer and residents of the neighbourhood many times to desist from excessive consumption of the local gin.

“He usually removed his face mask before going to bed. But he took some ogogoro late in the evening and was downcast. Those who saw him at the entrance of his apartment asked him to remove the mask on his face and go to bed, but he refused.

”However, he went to bed forgetting to remove his face mask and slept face down. He was probably choked to death by the face mask,” said a source who spoke in confidence.

The source added: “No one would believe that he started working as a guard in the building in March this year, because he was a likable fellow who related with everyone pleasantly. Hence, he had unhindered access to his boss’ apartment.

“He was a very easy going man, only that he could not restrain himself from indulging in the consumption of local gin which eventually led him to wear a face mask to bed, leading to his death.”

A resident identified simply as Olamilekan disclosed that the deceased had rebuffed those who pleaded with him to retire to bed when he was discovered to be drunk.

“He was sighted on Friday seated at the entrance of his apartment at the security house where he worked. He was looking downcast and was asked to go into his room but he refused. It was shocking that he died overnight.

“From the look of things and without prejudice to police investigations on the cause of his death, he was so drunk and probably forgot to remove his face mask before sleeping face down and suffocating to death.”

Policemen from Kemta Police Division in Idi Aba were said to have evacuated the body of the deceased to the mortuary at the State General Hospital at Ijaiye, Abeokuta.

The spokesman of Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), promised to revert to our correspondent when he was contacted on the phone.

He said: “I haven’t heard about the incident, but I will confirm the story from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Kemta Division and get back to you,” he said.

He, however, had not done so at press time.

Nigeria records 156 new coronavirus cases, total now 54, 743

Nigeria on Friday recorded 156 coronavirus cases, one of the country’s lowest daily tallies in almost four months.

The latest daily figure brings the total number of infections in the country to 54, 743.

This is according to an update by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday night.

The update came barely 24 hours after the night curfew was extended from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. in the third phase of eased lockdown.

Cases have fallen below 300 for almost two weeks in Africa’s most populous nation.

Nigeria has been riding along a plateau as of late, perhaps an indication that the worst is over even though health experts say it is dangerous to relent as the continued decline in daily infections poses more questions than answers.

The number of deaths from the virus has also been minimal.

Three deaths were recorded on Friday, dragging the total number of deaths from the virus 1, 051.

The 156 new cases were reported from 17 states: Lagos (36), FCT (35), Oyo (29), Kaduna (10), Abia (9), Osun (5), Ogun (5), Enugu (5), Rivers (4), Nasarawa (3), Ekiti (3), Imo (3), Edo (2), Kwara (2), Katsina (2), Plateau (2), Niger (1)

Namibia trains dogs to sniff out coronavirus

The University of Namibia’s School of Veterinary Medicine is training dogs to detect coronavirus.

The plan is to deploy the dogs at airports and borders, the Namibian newspaper quotes Conrad Brain, a physiology and epidemiology lecturer as saying.

Dogs have been proven 95% accurate at detecting coronavirus, veterinary lecturer Alma Raath adds.

The project started two months ago, the Namibian reports, but it does not say when the dogs will be ready.

The Namibian says this is the first African country to use dogs to sniff out Covid-19.

Messi told Goal: “I told the club, to the president in particular, that I wanted to leave. They know this since the start of the past season. I told them during all the last 12 months. But I will stay here because I don’t want to start a legal war”.
