Angry ‘mad’ man kills okada rider in Ebonyi

An angry ‘mad’ man (name withheld) in the early hours of Saturday, was reported to have killed an Okada Rider, Mr. Elias Ofoke in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital.

The victim, a father of six children, hails from Agbaja Unuhu in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He left his family this morning in search of daily bread, only to lose his life in a controversial circumstance.

Reports revealed that members of Neighborhood Watch Security Outfit had early this morning tried to arrest the alleged mad man who resisted them.

The resistance led to the torturing of the mentally challenged person by some members of the security outfit.

After the torture, the victim was abandoned to the surprise of passerby who pleaded with them not to abandon him as such could endanger the lives of others within the environment.

Moments of the encounter, an innocent Okada man who dropped his passenger in the area, while trying to move his bike was suddenly beaten to death by the mad man who was yet to recover from the shock of the attack he received from the Neighbourhood Watch Security.

The ‘mad’ man out of anger over the torture he received, hit the Okada Rider on the head. This singular action led to the death of the motorcycle operator.

Members of Motorcycle Transport Union, Ebonyi State Chapter have been left speechless following the brutal killing of one of their members, Mr. Elias Ofoke, who was killed in the early hours of the day by the ‘mad’ man.

The incident occurred around Udensi bridge in Abakaliki.

Reacting, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kpirikpiri Division, SP Chris Anyanwu who confirmed the incident advised members of Okada Union to still nose for background information concerning the incident as the police would carry out an in-depth into the matter.

Also, the State Chairman, Motorcycle Transport Union, Ebonyi State Chapter, Comrade Paulinus Atam, who frowned at the tragic incident explained that the Union has never recorded such case since his emergence as the chairman of the Association.

He called on the State Government to fish out mad men in Abakaliki metropolis in order to forestall such occurrence in the future, while consoling with the bereaved family and the entire members of the Union.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, on phone said that he has already been notified of the tragic incident.

“We had already called on the police to wade into the matter and ensure that the culprit be brought to book.”

The Commissioner also doubted the possibility of the alleged actions of the Neighbourhood Watch Security on the mad man adding that the security outfit who have been working for the safety of the people in the state could not unleash attack on a mad person and abandon such a person to endanger the lives of others on the streets.

A Nephew to the deceased, Mr. Opoke Innocent who identified his Late uncle as a married man with six children, called on the State Government to come to the aid of the deceased family as the demise of the victim has created a very big vacuum which needed the intervention of both the State Government and the Okada Union.

The corpse of the victim was later deposited to the FETHA 1 Mortuary, Abakaliki, while the wounded ‘mad’ man was taken to the Police Clinic for medical evaluation and attention.

Two killed, 14 wounded in shooting at US party ― Police

Two people were killed and 14 wounded early Saturday in a shooting at a backyard party in Rochester, New York state, police said.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire in the area found a “chaotic scene” with about 100 people running in various directions, interim police chief Mark Simmons told reporters.

“In total we have 16 confirmed victims of shooting. And I’m sad to announce that two of the 16 received a fatal wound,” he said.

Those killed — one man, one woman — were both between 18 and 22 years of age, and had not been formally identified, he said.

The 14 wounded had been taken to hospital and were not in a life-threatening condition, he said.

No arrests have been made so far and police could not say if more than one shooter was involved.

“For our community to have to deal with this tragedy … is unfortunate and shameful,” Simmons said.

Car thief shoots man dead in front of pregnant wife before killing himself in police chase

A carjacker who held a couple hostage, fatally shot a husband in front of his pregnant wife, before shooting himself dead.

The gunman, who went on a deadly rampage killed two people and injured three before turning the gun on himself.

Dangelo Dorsey had followed through a series of carjackings and shootings before fleeing from the police on September 13.

The horrific rampage ended with a high-speed car chase in Tennessee.

He ultimately shot himself in front of the pregnant wife of a man he had killed earlier after holding them hostage when he carjacked them as they went to church.

David Rausch, director of The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said in a press release that the killing spree started at 9.30am when the 29-year-old opened fire inside a moving vehicle along Interstate 24 near Beechgrove.

Dorsey, from St. Louis, Missouri, got out of the vehicle as traffic came to a halt shooting a woman in her hand as he attempted to carjack her vehicle and he fatally shot a nearby truck driver in the face.

Aileen Stevens was teaching Sunday School that morning at her church in Rutherford County and was on her way there with husband Jordan in their Ford Mustang when they were rear-ended by Dorsey.

Mr Rausch said the couple were forced to drive back to their home at gunpoint by Dorsey who is claimed to have stolen two of their guns before he made them swap cars and go back out with him.

Police say at some point Mr Stevens was shot dead in front of his wife by Dorsey who dumped the body before driving off with the terrified mum-to-be.

Officers managed to pinpoint the SUV they were in and a 100mph police chase began before the car crashed and flipped.

Mr Rausch said Dorsey then shot himself dead in front of Mrs Stevens.

He added: "The female hostage was safely recovered."

Vee, one of the Big Brother Naija housemates still in the lockdown house, has said that she would go into serious s.e.x escapade with her lover, Neo, after the reality show.

Vee said this during a conversation with her friend, Laycon, last night, vowing that she would do all the things she couldn’t do in public with Neo.

Neo and Vee, seen in the most honest relationship in the lockdown house, have tried to keep themselves from having s.e.x on national television.

But Vee has always made her intention to have s.e.x with Neo public.

“Like play, we have only 9 days left in this place. Oh my God! Neo, your life’s over when we leave this place…” she said.

Shocked, Laycon asked, “What! Did you just say his life is over with you or what?”

Vee responded, “[I said] his life is over when we leave this place.”

Laycon demanded, “How so? Oh you plan to fu*k him up…. oh my God! You need to see someone planning intense ‘pen!sing’ with someone’s son in public.”

And Vee boldly said, “Yes, because I can’t do what I want to do in public.”

Five rescued as bus plunges into river in Ebonyi

Five persons were on Friday rescued at Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as a ‘608’-model bus plunged into Akaeze-ukwu River, NAN reports.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Commander in Ebonyi, Mrs Stella Uchegbu who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the accident which involved a bus and an articulated vehicle had 38 passengers on board.

Uchegbu said that reports reaching her desk indicated that the rescued victims were unconscious and were taken to the hospital.

“We can, therefore, not confirm if any person is dead or not and the FRSC team (Ishiagu unit) is still at the scene for rescue efforts.

“The Afikpo unit team is, however, on standby in case any major thing ‘breaks’ this night to give back-up to the staff at the scene.

“There are, however, two versions of the incident as one held that the articulated vehicle tried to overtake the bus which made it (the bus) to lose control and another held that it was the bus which actually tried to overtake.

“There was no report of collision by both vehicles but the bus just lost control at the bridge and plunged into the river.

“We have not ascertained whether the bus was fully loaded or if the passengers observed COVID-19 social distancing but divers from the area managed to rescue five persons,” she said.

She further revealed that someone called to inform that his brother and wife were still trapped inside the river but the divers said they couldn’t continue because it was dark.

“God is alive, and he can still preserve the victims,” she added.

Parents, teachers protest, demand resumption of schools in Kwara

Parents and teachers of private schools in Kwara State, on Friday stormed the secretariat of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, demanding the resumption of academic activities.

He said the State Commissioner for Education, has assured the association that the state government was working on schools’ resumption in the state.

Two self-acclaimed pastors arrested for r*ping corps member

The Police in Rivers State have arrested two pastors for allegedly r*ping a 27-year old member of the National Youths Service Corps.

The corps member is observing her primary assignment at the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The pastors, identified as Austin Emmanuel and Peter Davies, are currently being detained at the State Criminal and Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt.

Emmanuel reportedly invited  the victim to his house for an indoor birthday party and in the course of the celebration, he was later joined by Davies.

It was gathered that the suspects offered to pray for the victim and in the middle of the prayer, they applied a-yet-to-be-identified liquid on her face which made her unconscious.

Speaking with journalists, the corps member said she experienced pains in her private parts after regaining consciousness.

She said, “Actually, it was after I regained consciousness that I was feeling pain in my vagina. I told my mum and she reported to the police and they said that they should take me to doctors without borders for checkup. I found out that I was fingered according to the report and saw bruises seen all over my body.”

Meanwhile, parents of the victim, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Bonko called on the Rivers State Police Command not to allow the accused persons go scot free to serve as a deterrent to other persons.

The father of the girl said he had approached the International Federation of Women Lawyers in the state to ensure the prosecution of the case.

“When I saw her, she was not in her senses. I started asking questions. Then they told me that they have arrested the suspects. I saw the suspects and they told me what happened.

“We took her to a psychiatric hospital. They tested her and did everything. Wherever we went, the NYSC followed us on the matter. An NYSC official reported the issue to the headquarters. If we allow this matter to die, they will do the same thing to other female corps members. That is why I decided to come to FIDA,” he explained.

The state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, said the matter was under investigation.

“Yes, we refer to this issue, but the matter has not reached my desk. I believe it is still under investigation,” Mukan stated.

Rashford beats Ighalo to win Man U Goal of the Season award

Odion Ighalo has missed out on winning the Manchester United Goal of the Season award after it was claimed by Marcus Rashford.

The 31-year-old Nigerian has been at Old Trafford since January, on loan from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua, scoring five goals in 19 competitive games.

He started on each occasion when he scored and his best strike came in a 5-0 bashing of LASK in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16.

The former Watford man received a lovely ball from fellow January signing Bruno Fernandes in the 28th minute and brilliantly controlled the ball, first with his right foot, and then switching to his left, before sending in a powerful volley beyond the reach of Alexander Schlager in goal for LASK.

The precision and technique of the goal illustrated Ighalo at his best, but it could not win him the best goal of the campaign with Rashford ultimately taking it in a poll conducted on the Manchester United website.

Rashford had a storming season for the Red Devils until a back injury befell him in January, which prompted the temporary purchase of Ighalo from China.

The England forward was, however, able to recover from his injury after the resumption of football from lockdown restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Rashford’s award-winning goal came in an EFL Cup fourth-round tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 30, 2019.

It’s tough to move on when a marriage crashes -Toyin Abraham reveals

Toyin Abraham is undoubtedly one of the most popular actresses in Nigeria at the moment. The award-winning role interpreter, who is married to Kolawole Ajeyemi, and blessed with a baby boy, Ire, recently shared a few thoughts on the institution of marriage.

In a video she shared on her YouTube channel and monitored by Saturday Beats, the ‘Alakada’ star noted that marriage had no manual, adding that what worked for a person might not work for another. She said, “I want everyone to know there is no manual for marriage and we are not going to get married to the same man.

Even if we get married to the same person, we don’t have the same attitude. Marriage counsellors will only tell you the things necessary in life.

We must be patient. My husband is Kola but I cannot tell you how to live with your own man― someone I have not lived with. Even a man that marries more than one wife would not treat them the same way. The way the wives relate to their husband will also be very different.

I cannot tell you about marriage but the two things I can tell you will help you not only in your marriage but in your relationship right now.

“You need to be patient (because) sometimes, our husbands can be annoying. To stay married, your patience must be topnotch. Secondly, you have to respect your man. I am an African woman and I am also educated though I might not be as learned as some people.

You have to respect your man. Lastly, your marriage has to come first. These are the things that are important even while relating with other people. I usually tell people that marriage is very sensitive. Sometimes, when marriages crash and people advise the couple to ‘move on’, they think it is very easy to move on. You think it is easy? Marriage is deeper than what a lot of people out there think. You need to be submissive and respect your husband.

I cannot say much about marriage because it does not come with a manual. I might marry a particular man and he might behave badly to me and another person could marry the same man and he might be good to her. I am still young in marriage but what has been working for me is that I respect and honour my husband.”

“Being told I am beautiful at the age of 5 got into my head” - Bolanle Olukanni

Nigerian documentary filmmaker and television personality, Bolanle Olukanni has revealed that when she was very little, remarks by people about her beauty carried her away.

Bolanle Olukanni took to her Instagram page to write about her personal life, she recounted how being told that she is beautiful when she was 5 and how it got into her head.

She wrote;

''With an increasingly growing obsession on physical looks, its easy to get sucked in and completely depend on your physical looks for self validation. I told someone a story yesterday- When I was really young -like 5 years old… I was the cutest thing. Lol yup. Everyone told me.

It was my identity -even as a 5 year old. I knew it . Carried it on my head. So I got to 7 and of course I wasn’t a cute like a baby. I remember thinking why don’t people tell me I am cute anymore??!!!! I was so bothered and upset by it. Thankfully my parents noticed and I had older sisters who really had a lot more going for them asides from physical validation. I began to become more rounded as a person and I was able to grow into my teenage years not overly obsessed about my looks. My self- confidence also came from knowing who I am as a Child of the Most high. Ultimately this is where that confidence comes from. This life will ask you to validate yourself based on things , where you are from , how you talk , how you achieve – if you constantly answer , you will be running upandan. So stop 🛑 . Get your confidence from the creator. God made you . That’s the only opinion that matters 💥💥💥 #godovereverything''
