Fake Nollywood actor in EFCC net for scamming American

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested one, Ezekiel Sunday Emmanuel, for allegedly defrauding an American national, Collins Meresha, to the tune of $7,000.

Emmanuel, who presents himself as Frederick Nnaemeka Leonard, a Nollywood actor, was handed over to the EFCC on 8 October.

He was first arrested by the Chief Security Officer of Federal Airports Authority, FAAN, who caught him while engaging in a heated argument with Meresha on October 6, 2020.

He was not the Nollywood actor that she hoped to see.

The suspect will soon be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

ENDSARS: Makinde releases N1m each to families of Isiaka, other slain victims

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Tuesday, paid a condolence visit to the family of deceased Jimoh Isiaka and two other victims of the violence that erupted during the ENDSARS protests.

Makinde was accompanied by top government functionaries, the Speaker, Oyo state Hosue of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, and some lawmakers.

He explained that beyond the EndSARS protest, most Nigerians have become frustrated over prevailing harsh economic reality in the country and if government fail to address youth idleness with gainful employment there might be a future disaster

The governor also noted that while his government was not against peaceful protest, protesters must be responsible enough to voice their concerns as the state government would work more at ensuring youths in the state were meaningfully engaged.

Makinde also ordered the immediate release of N100 million for the renovation of Soun of Ogbomoso’s palace, following the violence that erupted in Ogbomoso axis of the state, weekend, as a result of the ENDSARS protest, which led to the destruction of property of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade’s palace.

This is as the governor, also ordered the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, Chief Bayo Lawal and the Caretaker Chairman, Ogbomoso North Local Government Council to do an assessment and documentation of the vandalised parts of the palace as well as vehicles to determine what would be repaired and those to be replaced.

While appealing to the Soun to forgive the perpetrators, Governor Makinde, who described the protesters as the monarch’s children assures that the government would meaningfully engage the youths population to douse the tension and prevent a possible recall.

In his response, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oyewunmi appreciated the visit and urged the government to wake up to it numerous responsibilities.

The monarch also assured that the traditional institution would continue to play its role in supporting the government for a better society.

Vanguard recalled that the angry youths destroyed properties worth millions of naira in the main palace of the monarch, ransacked and destroyed properties in an adjacent building to the Soun’s palace, popularly known as Oba Oladunni hall, as well as about ten vehicles damaged.

The governor who was received by the Secretary to the monarch, Mr Toyin Ajamu was also conducted round the palace to see the degree of damages done to the palace.

End SARS: Why I stayed away from protest – Burna Boy

Popular Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy, has explained the rationale behind his absence during the End SARS protests across the country.

Burna Boy said he was dealing with a personal family issue at the beginning of the protests, adding that his mother had serious surgery last week.

Nigerians across the country have been protesting the illegality and unconstitutional activities of SARS operatives.

Nigerian musician, Davido, and other entertainers were seen at the protest ground on Sunday in Abuja, calling for the end of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

However, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday, announced the disbandment of SARS, following days of online and offline protests.

Reacting to the development, Burna Boy, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Monday said he was busy in making sure that his mother recovers.

He tweeted: “I was dealing with a Personal Family issue at the Beginning of these Protests. My mum had Serious Surgery last week!

“We were all invested in making sure she recovers! I am not about that “put it all out on social media” life. We decided the focus must solely be on this protest.”

Wike bans End SARS protests in Rivers State

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has banned End SARS protest in the State.

Port Harcourt was meant to have its turn of the #EndSARS protest, today, Tuesday October 13, 2020.

But Wike in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications in the State, said the decision to ban the proposed protest follows the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad by the Inspector General of Police.

The statement reads; “The Rivers State Government hereby wishes to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State.

“Therefore, all proposed protests under #End SARS Campaign are hereby prohibited.

“Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.”

“The Governor, therefore, calls on parents and guardians to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.

“Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book,” Wike warned.

Ooni of Ife backs #EndSARS protesters, talks about his 25-year old daughter's ordeal

Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has relieved his daughter’s ordeal in the hands of operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The monarch, who declared support for the ongoing #EndSARS protests, warned the police to stop attacking the demonstrators.

In a statement posted on his Twitter account, the monarch warned the police to stop persecuting demonstrators.

He said the youths were fighting a good cause which would positively affect security operatives in the long run.

He said: “The #ENDSARS movement has brought nothing but joy to me. Finally, the youths are awake, with one voice and a common goal.

“I understand your plight, my 25-year-old daughter had a nasty experience with SARS, almost losing her life.

“On her way to the airport, she was stopped and terribly ransacked and surrounded by fully armed plain clothes policemen in a bus, detained for close to 30mins of thorough questioning.

“Imagine a young female for that matter, all her belongings completely searched all because she was with a laptop on an official assignment from her office in Lagos.

“I can only imagine the countless ones that have lost their lives from such ordeals, may their souls rest in peace.

“I assure you that this is the beginning of greater things to come in Nigeria. I implore you to demand for more, but plead with you to do so in a peaceful manner, as anything outside of that will cause unnecessary havoc for all.”

The monarch said he had been informed that many innocent people had been arrested and detained, but that he was “pursuing the matter and they will be set free.”

He added: “To the men and women of the Nigerian police force, be assured that this movement is also for you, we know you are humans also and your reality is as a result of your environment.

“This movements demands better on your behalf, and is aimed at pushing the government to do better for you and elevate your standard of living. Do not persecute your advocates.

“God bless Nigerian youths and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. #EndPoliceBrutality.”
